5-23-26. First time visiting. Went with a group and we ordered quite a few items. I think the food was a little inconsistent with some hits and some misses. The wonton soup was decent......wontons were very good but the broth however was a bit bland. Roast pork fried rice was pretty good.....a little dry and skimpy on the pork but the flavor was more than adequate. Hot and sour soup was really tasty with a good bit of spice. Scallion bubble pancake was very light and tasty. The Emperor cabbage appetizer was probably my favorite meal item.....crispy cabbage tossed in a peanuty garlic sauce with honey. It was served cold (which usually I'm not a big fan of, but this was an exception) and had a great flavor. Pork belly appetizer tasted very good but it wasn't crispy (which would have made it so much better) and the buns they were served with didn't taste completely fresh. Dan Dan noodles with ground beef was excellent.... they're served spicy and you can simply request the level of heat you prefer to fit your taste buds. Soup dumplings were of decent size and quite juicy...... unfortunately they lacked some flavor. Mongolian beef dish was excellent as was the kung pao chicken. Overall it was a pretty good meal but there was some room for improvement. Came here for a Christmas Day dinner with my family and it was everything I could've hoped for. The service was accommodating, the location was convenient, the restaurant itself is well decorated and high end feeling without being too stuffy. Food is well priced considering the amount and quality. We kicked things off with cocktails -- my Duck Smoked Old Fashioned hit exactly right on a cold day. For appetizers we tried ever soup dumpling they had, plus the cabbage and cucumber appetizers which were so refreshing, delicious and well seasoned. We ordered a peking duck for the table and it came out crispy and moist with plenty of scallions and hoisin sauce. We also had the wild pepper shrimp which was seasoned so well, and the Mongolian beef which melted in your mouth. We ordered fried rice and chow mein which were also excellent, well seasoned and well cooked without being too salty. At first I was hesitant to try this place, thinking everything would be spicy and overpriced. I'm glad a friend suggested we try it because it was so good! First the restaurant aesthetically was beautiful. Very instagram worthy. The food was elevated, Mongolian and Szechuan style Chinese dishes. Peking duck here is probably one of the best I've ever had. Super crispy skin and deboned when served with traditional crepes instead of commercial buns. I highly recommend their shumai. It's pricier than standard dim sum but the quality is next level. They're almost a hybrid of Shumai and pork soup dumplings. Large and thick with filling. Cocktail menu was also decent. Came here with a group and we were seated immediately. We ordered a bunch of appetizers and food and ate it "family style". The food and drinks were amazing. I ordered the O Mai Tai and it was a great cocktail that was sweet. My husband really liked his lager. We got the spicy cucumber, noodles, and fried shrimp and they were amazing appetizers. For the main dishes, we got the duck and it was crispy and sooo good. The Mongolian beef was also amazing and not over cooked. We also got the general tso chicken and it was also very crispy. Another great experience at O mandarin! My friend and I were craving duck and wanted to have an early Chinese new year celebration. We started with spring rolls (yum, nice and crispy), steamed pork soup dumplings- double yum. I had a Mai tai which was very good and she had a ginger martini she enjoyed. For entrees we had the half pekin duck which was great- nice and crispy skin- with the pancakes and not the bao buns (phew). It's almost two years that O Mandarin has been on regular rotation since my review of our Christmas dinner. Read my first review for notes on ambiance and overall experience. The five stars still hold true but what with today being Thanksgiving, I wanted to show my appreciation for what has become my family's favorite Chinese restaurant! The menu has changed a bit and sadly they no longer have my favorite tofu skin rolls. But they do have an incredible scallion pancake that is unlike any scallion pancake I've ever had before. It's served puffy and when you poke a fork into it, it deflates into a pillowy chewy delight. A delicious peanut/coconut sauce is served with. Yes, it's vegan. My latest favorite entree is the string beans which are served almost dry hot pot style, crispy/slightly charred, spicy and irresistable. It's a large portion and probably meant to be shared, but I actually just get my leftovers to go and enjoy it ASAP the next day. The service here is always nothing short of extraordinary and we truly love this special, beautiful place. read more

"Gentlemen, this is democracy manifest!", "What is the charge? Eating a meal? A succulent Chinese meal?" Oh, Mandarin... indeed! One of my friends had been singing the praises of this place to me for a while, and I'm so glad I got to check it out. The outside sets the stage, with a gorgeous door leading to the interior which is decorated authentically. Service is super fast and friendly, and they stagger the courses as they come out. We lead with some dumplings and dan dan noodles (smash), and some sweet and sour soup. Next we had some mala soup dumplings which really highlighted the mala spice (tingly)! The half duck followed that, and this was a standout must get for me. They had little crepe like wrappers that you could make duck tacos with hoisin. Finally, we did the Dungeness crab in Szechuan sauce and veggies. Very good, flavors really sang through, but very expensive and challenging to eat. It was quite packed for a Saturday late lunch. We had a round table for 5, which kinda made it hard to talk and reach for the food. But nevertheless, the food made up for it. The menu was quite large and a good range of sichuan and simple Chinese dishes: - the Peking duck wrap was actually pretty good. The skin was crispy and the meat was juicy. It is a little expensive for the amount, but it was really tasty - the pork with bamboo shred ands bean curds was actually my favorite. It was the most consistent flavor and really good over rice - the garlic eggplant was interesting. It was garlicky but tangy and the sauce was really spicy, albeit asking for mild - the Mongolian beef was okay - the garlic rub pork ribs were meh, too much batter and deep fried a little too long making it hard to chew through the batter We were super full and still had leftovers. Excellent food. Beautiful presentation and mastery in preparation. The Peking duck was delicious. The fat was either removed or baked out. The dish was presented traditionally with the all the toppings. The duck sauce was also perfect. A beautiful dish that fulfilled the 3 categories of Chinese cooking: color, fragrance and taste. Our next favorite in presentation and taste is the pork belly with pumpkin. The presentation of the dish is eye popping. The pork belly is unmistakably cooked by a master chef. The texture is chewy (skin), soft (fat) and dense (meat). The sauce may look over the top, but it adds to the silkiness of the pieces. The "fat" is not greasy. It's puzzling how they rendered the grease. I grew up eating this dish and cook it too. This dish by far is the best I've had. Service is fantastic; helpful and attentive. This is our new favorite restaurant! Suggestion would be to eat at the restaurant for an incredible experience. Dishes came out is perfect order. The dim lit restaurant was such a pleasant surprise. The entrance and decorations were amazing and gave you something to admire in every part of the restaurant. Good Chinese food is difficult to come by in Hicksville, so this is definitely a go to spot. The service was so kind, and they packed all of our food for us to go. I was really disappointed with my experience at O Mandarin in Hicksville. While the restaurant has a nice atmosphere, I found a beetle in my food, which completely ruined the meal. Finding an insect in your food is unacceptable, especially at a restaurant with this reputation. It made me question the cleanliness of the kitchen and food preparation. I hope the management takes food safety and sanitation more seriously so this doesn't happen to anyone else. read more

I highly recommend this place!! We came here with no reservations on Father's Day. We were a party of 5 and they were able to accommodate us immediately. The restaurant is beautiful inside and out. We walked through the gates of heaven and entered O' Mandarin. When I tell you guys, the ambiance of this restaurant is amazing! There is a full bar with more alcohol than my local liquor store-and that's crazy. There are several tables that are inside a booth to create a more private feel for your party. We were blessed to have such a wonderful server, Jenny, aka "Jenny from the block". She was great. Checked on us frequently, cut our beef off the bone and packed our food for us. We appreciated how amazing she was. Now on to the food- For appetizers, we got: Pot stickers 10/10 (sooo good!) Braised ribs 10/10 (sooo good!) Wonton soup 10/10 Hot and sour soup 10/10 (btw, it was super spicy. Like the kind where your nose begins to water, yeah that kind of spicy) Soup dumplings 7/10 (it was ok. ) Scallion pancake (7/10 (I just didn't like the whole bubble thing. And it comes with a curry sauce that I found to be okay. I prefer soy) For entrees: Chicken friend rice 10/10 Beef chow mein 10/10 Mongolian beef 10/10 (I really enjoyed this!) Sesame chicken 10/10 Garlic pepper shrimp 6/10 (this dish seemed more on the healthier side. Not much flavor or sauce. It did come with some vegetables that was good and the shrimp was nice and jumbo. I just pictured garlic pepper shrimp differently in my mind when I ordered it) My husband for a pina colada with a shot of Remy Martin because it's Father's Day and why not. I got a white Mandarin sangria. Not gonna lie, I didn't really like it. It taste like perfume if that makes sense to anyone. Oh Mandarin, I had such high hopes! Let's start with the positives. The Peking duck was pretty good although l the half portion did seem a little light on the meat. We had just alerted at Xouji in Glen Cove and even though we got a full duck at Xouji vs half here at OM, the duck at Xouji was 3-4 times bigger; so much meat! But the duck was very tasty and they give you these really thin pancakes, almost crepe like to wrap the duck, which I like a lot more than those fluffy bao buns at some other places. They will also give you more scallions, cucumbers and hoisin sauce if you run out and do not charge like Xouji. So all in all pretty comparable. Their scallion bubble pancake with the curry sauce was also pretty tasty although a little out of place in a Chinese restaurant. I have had a similar dish at a couple of Indian restaurants. Still pretty good. Now for the not so good. The soup dumpling was below average. The skin is too thick, they do not season the meat enough and they do not give you the proper ladle/spoon to eat them. We also ordered 2 of the dumpling sampler for the 3 of us. The dumpling skins were generally not good. Too glutinous; almost undercooked. And I am not sure if you can see from pic, but the details on the dumplings were not good. We could hardly tell what animals they were supposed to be and needed to get the menu to be able to tell. Even the penguin looked more like a bowling pin. The waiter was very helpful and friendly so that was a plus. If we come back, we will get the duck and pancake and maybe try some of their other dishes but avoid the dumplings. read more

The place looked quite odd outside because a big storage building right next to it. But once you pushed the heavy door, you would see a totally different world. I liked the simple traditional elements all around. From the China red columns to traditional wooden engraved tables and chairs. They reminded me the Forbidden City. The most beloved 8 Treasure Manchurian mini sweets by Empress Dowager, elegantly lying in this exquisitely made gift box ( see my photo attached). I think I was sold just by this setting. Lol! Now food. The place offered mixed styles of dishes, Sichuan mostly, traditional Beijing and American Chinese. The steamed fish: 9/10. I requested no oil pouring on the fish as the final touch, which it is considered as the most key step of this dish. I personally just never found that was necessary nor healthy nor pretty. Not that I didn't respect the chef's expertise (my husband often warns me I would be kicked out in Europe when dining in. lol). The Peking Duck: per my son 10/10 however don't buy this. Because he has never had a real Peking Duck in Beijing yet. But judged from the presentation, the skin looked thin and crispy. The color looked nice n rather atttactive in its red brown, fairly appealing. However, the duck meat was so thickly cut under the pretty skin. The wrapping pan cakes were nicely warmed and a bit challenging to seperate them. One order of wrapping cake wasn't not enough so we ordered another set. Salt & pepper pork ribs: 8/10. Surprising not greasy and very nice flavor. Not of the bone so it was fun to work on it a little bit. Bean sprout in garlic: 8/10. It would be so much more enjoyable if less oil. Again, the Golden Rule is, the simpler the better. Beef with Napa cabbage and Chinese asparagus in chill oil: 8/10. The flavor was great. MSG of course but not too crazy. What a pity the cut of beef was too thick. Silky tofu with thousand year old egg in chill oil: 8/10. Very good in terms of flavor. I know it was diodes to enjoy with a heavy chill oil. This dish was in a beautiful cold metal bowl on a traditional engraved metal stand. If the chops of garnish more refine, this would be 10/10. Dan Fan noodles:6/10. Very average. The noodle was too soft for Dan Dan. Lacking of chewing sensation that traditional ones requires. The topping missed finely chopped preserved Chinese cabbage, as well as crushed peanuts. But it was very popular on the table. The final and the highlight of the brunch was the 8 Treasure old Manchurian mini sweets! 11/10! Yes, you heard it right! 11/10. lol! I was a snub when came to sweets. But these from here I could eat them every day. There well fresh out of making and extremely light in taste. I honestly felt like the Empress Dowaher for a moment. Thank you chef, as a Manchurian, I was ecstatic! Service: 10/10. Our waitress Nook was very pleasant and sweet. Constantly checking with us if things were needed. She wore a day time makeup and very much respect her job and the guests. The girls at the front door needed to be seriously trained to be the front face of the business. Finally got a chance to try O Mandarin. Glad we chose to dine in, enjoying the environment and freshly made dishes is such a wise decision. I think they change the menu time to time. We were interested in a dish from Yelper's picture, but the restaurant on longer has it. Also surprised they don't have Sichuan cold jelly (?) 川北凉粉 on the menu. We tried: - Chengdu mouthwatering chicken 口水鸡 4/5. I like the flavor but the chicken was a little dry. When I ate the leftover next day, the chicken fell apart. I don't mind but just find it odd. - Sliced pork belly 蒜泥白肉 3.5/5. The portion is small. Flavor is not bad. - Scallion bubble pancake 葱油泡饼 4/5. It's a fun concept! The only thing is that menu says it comes with red curry dip, but the dip tastes like spicy mayo. - thousand layer tofu 干锅千页豆腐 4/5. If you never had thousand layer tofu before, it has a more chewy texture than the usual firm tofu. This dish has more sauce than typical 干锅 (dry pot) dishes; it may get heavy if you keep eating it. - Emperor grilled lamb 贝勒羊肉 4.5/5. O Mandarin makes this dish better than Chai in Midtown West and Juqi in Flushing. The lamb is perfect. We do wish the mini pancakes can be crispy to add more texture. Service was good. Note that the waitresses don't seem to speak Chinese. If you come with older families who order in Chinese, you may need to help translate. read more

You can be assured the food is delicious and authentic when you are among a handful of non-Asian patrons. Everything, especially the Peking Duck, were prepared & presented beautifully. Our waitress was warm and informative. She recommended a few appetizers & dishes and made sure we didn't order too little or too much. The only complaint was the desserts were just meh. O Mandarin in Hicksville off of Old Country Road is a surprisingly large pretty restaurant with many seemingly happy customers including families with young children on a Friday night. Menus on booklets or tablets with lots to choose from. The food is presented attractively. The fish was fresh. The Tea smoked duck fried rice was an interesting mix of flavors. Super noisy which made it hard to order to waitress Tiffany. I totally get missing words as I never got the tea and reminded her to bring sides of soy and duck sauce with the order of potstickers. This noted, a toss up of giving 3 stars. Why? I really hate to have to share my food with insects or bugs of any kind. Even 1 of that with which I saw. ( see video) No dessert for me as wholly un eaten I asked it taken off the bill and yet with sweet - Sorry - another was brought out for me to again, I repeat that perhaps someone else might like it and requested simply to take it off the bill of which then was done, bringing the order of 3 items to near $60.00. Beautiful ambience and delicious Chinese food. I would absolutely recommend. I happen to be there for lunch and the lunch special was a very good value. I got a delicious peppery Wonton soup and String beans with shrimp for only $15. The food is very fresh and authentic. I would definitely come back. As a matter of fact, I did, the following week. Service was excellent as well. For me, O Mandarin does deserve a five star review. I'm not sure what their regular dinner prices are but I'm sure they are a little in the pricier side for Chinese food but you are dining in a very lovely setting and the food is delicious and fresh. We went here for dinner, the food was delicious. But when it came to the dessert it went into a fast fast downward spiral. As we were eating the empowered 8 treasures cookie tray we realized the wood plate it came on was infested with ants. We told the server who was so kind and apologetic about it. Disappointing enough they only took off the dessert, didn't offer anything else. In any other establishment the entire bill would've been taken care of, not for nothing your desserts were infested with ants. Sadly will not be returning. read more
