I went to lunch with my wife on a Sunday. The restaurant is located in a strip mall off of Jericho Turnpike in Syosset. The restaurant was dimly lit but nicely decorated. The were only 2 other people in the restaurant. The hostess brought us to a booth. Very comfortable. Waiter appeared a few minutes later and presented us with a tablet to order our meals. It was easy and it was great to see what the dishes looked like. We ordered mango lava milk and the holden chrysanthemum tea pot. Lava milk was nice and not too sweet and the chrysanthemum tea was a good choice to compliment the meal. We ordered the steamed pork soup dumplings. Cooked to perfection. We also ordered the half Peking duck and spicy black fish. The Peking duck was served with pancakes to wrap the duck as well as cucumber, pineapple and hoisin sauce. Duck tasted delicious not greasy at all. It was my favorite part of the meal. Spicy black fish was good as well and not too spicy. This is a high end Chinese fusion restaurant. Prices are high but you are paying for the presentation and experience. Footnote: This restaurant is listed as a Resy restaurant. This place deserves 5 stars but it was absolutely freezing inside, they told us the heat shuts off if its less than 30 degrees outside and we definitely felt the lack of heat. It was about 10 degrees outside we had to wear our jackets inside for dinner. Besides that downfall, the food here is so so so good. This is my second time coming back and I absolutely love everything, from the wontons to the fried rice and the kung pao chicken. I always look foward to eating my leftovers from this place!! The restaurant itself is immaculate. From the moment you walk in, it feels beautiful and well thought out. The food is bold, robust, and incredibly flavorful. Truly authentic and genuinely impressive. Everything we ordered was top notch and executed perfectly. We also loved the convenience of ordering directly from the iPads at the table and sending orders straight to the kitchen. It makes the experience smooth and efficient. The bar and dining room are both stunning and add to the overall vibe of the place. That said, there was a major issue during our visit. Apparently when the temperature drops below 30 degrees, the heat does not work. We ended up eating our entire meal bundled up in scarves, jackets, and beanies. That is not how you expect to spend a couple hundred dollars on a night out. Had we known ahead of time, we honestly would have ordered takeout instead because the food is that good. Service was fine but fairly minimal since most of the interaction is through the iPad ordering system. The real star here is the food, which is absolutely outstanding. However, the heating issue really takes away from the experience. This is something that needs to be fixed or at the very least communicated to guests in advance so expectations are clear. I am not a big Chinese food fan. I also rarely like how Chinese prepare duck (including Peking duck). This restaurant did an excellent job with not only the duck, but even lamb, which is rare to see in Chinese restaurants. Presentation was especially nice, with piping hot dishes ablaze on the table. Flavoring was good, and the restaurant at least verbally assured me that they prepared our meals without MSG. The restaurant itself was chic and modern, and the wait staff dressed well, but inattentive. I had to ask for more rice a few times (they forgot), but overall the food was good. Maybe not a perfect 4-star restaurant but close enough. Reasonably priced and I plan to go back to try more menu items. read more

Came here for my cousins birthday and we ordered a full duck and pinapple beer with a bunch of appetizers the chicken with lettuce wraps 3 orders of vegetable spring rolls soup dumplings and brisket with potatoes entree and got my Cousin Keylime cheesecake for dessert for his birthday very bad experience because came here another time and they made the duck tableside last time came all the way here from queens for this and had to make it ourselves because supposedly 1 waiter is only working here pretty upsetting considering the amount of money we've spent here. Very delicious. Great flavors and nice presentation. A bit pricey but we did get a lot of food and the Peking duck. First, the ambience was very nice, more elevated and everything was very Instagram worthy but my photos weren't the greatest because I was annoyed by the couple sitting next to us who were coughing and sneezing in our direction. Nobody sitting on their other side but they kept sneezing and coughing. I digress. We ordered the soup dumplings. Very nice broth. The skin could have been thinner but they were yummy. Let me be clear: I'm actually a big fan of Jiangnan's $7 lunch special and have ordered it three times already. There are several dishes I genuinely like -- the tomato beef, potato beef, and braised spare ribs are all solid and good value. However, I have to write this review specifically about the hot & spicy pork ribs (and possibly the scallion-braised pork ribs as well). You can clearly see from the photos that there were essentially no pork ribs in the dish at all. At best, there were only small scraps of pork that seemed like leftover trimmings from making the hot & spicy pork ribs. There wasn't a single proper piece of rib -- mostly just flour coating mixed with tiny bits of meat. I unfortunately bought two boxes. I threw away the first box after taking a few bites because it was really just scraps, but I didn't take any photos at the time since the other dishes were decent and I wasn't planning to leave a review. When I opened the second box and saw it was exactly the same, I really couldn't ignore it anymore. We came here for lunch on a weekday and was pretty satisfied with the experience. Service was top notch and the restaurant was well decorated and comfortable. The Peking duck (whole) portions were great for a family of 5 and was authentic though sauces were a bit sweet for my own taste. The soup dumpling was good and the mushroom buns were more for looks than for taste. The crab stir fried tofu in a crab pot was delicious and the green peppercorns hot chili fish was extremely tender. Not much green peppercorn taste, but nicely flavored and spicy but not too spicy. The best dish was probably the deep fried eel strips--they were perfectly crispy and a nice numbing/tingling spice. Would highly recommend this one. I am torn on whether to give 3 or 4 stars. My daughter went to the one in NYC and really liked it so o was really excited to try the Syosset location with Cathie and our daughter. The excitement wore off after the soup dumplings came. First, there are only 4! Why??? They always come in 6, which would have been perfect for the 3 of us. Also, it does not come with the black vinegar and soy sauce. Instead, it is a sweet rice vinegar sauce. I asked for the traditional sauce, which was still not right but better than the first one. One a positive note, we did enjoy the Peking duck although it was a bit pricier than what we would normally pay. But at least it comes with the thin pancakes and not bao buns, which I appreciated. And the sautéed tofu with crab meat and the string beans were good. The lotus root with sticky rice is a skip for me next time as it is a cold sweet dish, which was a surprise. The chicken/dough with dried peppers was pretty spicy although could have used a sole salt. Be careful with the peppers as they have a serious kick. We had leftovers that I ate the next day with siracha, and it was so much better! Desserts (glutinous rice with brown sugar and jelly with coconut milk) were ok. Service was very good and the restaurant is pretty spacious and nicely decorated. Be warned that they have Halloween decorations in the bathroom (daughter was a little startled). Decor was fresh and on Labor Day evening, a good number of families were eating. The food was not too salty or oily which was good compared to other Chinese restaurants. The menu is large, so you have to spend some time studying it if it's your first time. They gave all the tables lychee and passion fruit drinks, so that was a nice touch. The Peking duck was good. I just haven't had it in a thin wrap before... usually in bun form. They also had pineapples as a wrapping... which was also interesting touch! The meatballs had 3 which down the street had 4, but this one tasted better. The braised pork belly was my favorite as it was nicely braised and melted in your mouth. The evening we dined at Jiang Nan, was a real roller coaster ride... We were back on our native Long Island for my brother's 70th birthday. We were staying in eastern Nassau, but with a night off from family activities, We called up some old friends to meet for dinner. Knowing their limited palate, and preference for "standard" Chinese fare, and pizza, we asked them to find a suitable place mid-way between us, and their location in western Nassau. Both couples were on the road, when they called, saying that had arrived at their selected establishment, noting in was purely a takeout place. We pulled into a convent parking lot while a discussion ensued as to an alternate venue. Suggestions of various cuisines were bantered about, with little sucess at getting our friends' agreement. Looking out our windshield, we saw "Jiang Nan, 'Chinese Fusion'". Knowing our friends liked Chinese food, we marveled at our luck to have randomly pulled into the parking lot of a center with a very nice-looking Chinese resturant! While waiting for our friends to arrive, we secured a table, and perused the menu PANIC! Pig's liver, intestines; finding something our friends would even look at, never mind eat, seemed problematic. Upon their arrival, I explained that this was a bit different than what they might have expected.... In the end, after some careful reading of the menu, we made several selections. The wait staff was very helpful in helping us narrow our selections, and making suggestions. And our meal was wonderful. A combination of "safe", but interesting, well prepared and presented food, and good conversation. We started with duck spring rolls and two varieties of soup dumplings. The suggested chicken with lettuce wraps ended up as our absolute favorite of the evening. The combination of flavors and the mix of soft and crispy textures were wonderful. We ended with some fried rice and, what we thought would be a more typical, shrimp with honey walnuts (a dish we knew our friends liked in the past). Well, it was certainly delicious, but those shrimp! Huge, tender, and so sweet. In heaven! After we got back to where we were staying, I looked up the resturant to start this review, I noted they had won a Michelin Recommendation. And it was certainly well deserved. read more

The pekin duck (half order) fed 3 ppl nicely. The snapper in golden broth was delicious but I'm not a fan of bony fishes but the broth is delicious. The soup dumplings are done well and the ginger/vinegar that comes with it is delicious. The lettuce wraps were good texturally but I felt like it needed a sauce to accompany it. Felt the same way about the fried milk dessert...the dessert surprised me! It was actually very good but I also felt it needed a little something to accompany it. The food here is always excellent, and the atmosphere is upscale and beautiful. However, the one thing that consistently ruins the experience is the terrible service. As a fellow business owner, I hope the owners and managers take this review seriously. You simply cannot charge these prices and deliver such poor service. One of our waiters couldn't even look us in the eye, mumbling so quietly and moving so slowly when mixing the crab rice that I wanted to take over and do it myself. Another waiter stared at me so intensely that it made my husband and me deeply uncomfortable, to the point where my husband almost said something. He brought a negative energy that made it feel like he didn't want to be there or that he hated us. The only person who provided good service was the young woman we saw mentoring the shy waiter. She was attentive, professional, and seemed to be the only one who understood what proper service should look like in a restaurant of this caliber but we never got her again after our first visit. For a place with food and prices at this level, the service needs serious improvement. This was an unpleasant experience, and I will be going to the other Jiang Nan locations instead of this one despite liking the decor and convenience of this location much more. I'd be happy to change my review to a positive one if the owner/manager responds to let me know they're working on the issue as I don't want to negatively impact this business as the food is honestly the best quality Chinese food I've had in NY and they deserve top ratings for that but I can't let the terrible service keep sliding and going unnoticed by management. read more

Food was standard for the cuisine but I was pretty disappointed that the peking duck we ordered was not standing up versus when others ordered a peking duck, it was standing up. The reason we came was for the presentation of the duck getting lit on fire, but instead our duck was lying flat, and he lit the table on fire instead. We had to take a video of the other duck that other tables ordered because of how disappointed we were in the presentation. First, one of the ipads at our table was not even logged into the system (we were a party of 6.) So the waiter logged it in when I pointed it out. Ordering off the ipad is not fun or simple. its not intuitive to see where items are listed. Also, your waiter has no idea what food belongs to who because he did not take the order. And the guy who logged in ipad #2 may not have done it right because they forgot one main dish and one side dish. So the service seemed like they did not know what was happening. They were attentive as to refilling our teapot, though. But the electronic ordering system was a downside to the experience. I came here to celebrate my big 40th birthday on a Saturday. Easy to make reservation a couple of days prior for a table for 10 people. They even let us bring in our own cake for cutting. Dimly lit restaurant. Definitely on the more upscale side in terms of ambiance. Prices are on the higher side for sure too. We ordered a variety of food including the pork soup dumplings, whole Peking duck, braised meatballs in brown sauce, cumin lamb on sizzling plate, sautéed tofu with crab meat, deep fried striped bass with pine nuts in sweet and sour sauce, seafood fried noodles, sautéed pea sprouts. - Pork Soup Dumplings: Comes with so little pieces. Only 4! Pretty good though and my picky son likes it so it's a win in my book. - Peking Duck: Very nice presentation. Deconstructed so put whatever you want in the wraps. Love that the wrap is those thin rice paper instead of the white buns. Very tasty. Not sure about why there was chunk of pineapple though as a filling option... I've never seen that before. I do feel this is their signature so I would say this is a must. Who doesn't love Peking duck?! - Braised Meatball in Brown Sauce: This is the one dish I felt like I would not order again. It was just okay. Subtle flavors. Seemed honestly boring compared to the other dishes. We ordered this only because the waiter taking our order kept saying we needed an extra protein but I think it was unnecessary. Do not recommend. - Cumin Lamb on Sizzling Plate: This dish gets lit on fire in the beginning and the whole plate is ablaze for a few seconds. This is by far my favorite dish but I happen to love strong cumin flavors with my lamb. My mom literally spat this out as soon as it touched her tongue so it's definitely not for everyone. - Sautéed Tofu with Crab Meat - Loved it. Nice flavors. So light yet rich at the same time. I do recommend this. - Deep Fried Striped Bass with Pine Nuts in Sweet and Sour Sauce: Whole fish is lightly fried with delicious sauce. Beautiful presentation. Would order this again. - Seafood Fried Noodles: Good. Nothing special. - Sautéed Pea Sprouts: Your typical pea sprouts sautéed in garlic. I enjoyed this dish. I thought the food was quite excellent... you know for Long Island standards. I would definitely come again for a special occasion. Their service left much to be desired though. The restaurant was very empty on this cold, slushy February evening. There were many waiters standing around but it was so hard to get anyone's attention. The space is huge, great for large groups and beautifully designed. We arrived at around 3pm on a Sunday with a large group and the restaurant was pretty empty, with 2-3 occupied tables. We ordered the sautéed crab meat (which I highly recommend), flank steak with katsu sauce (meh), peking duck (yum), soup dumplings (yum), beef in chili sauce (yum) and kimchi cheese fried rice, which was falsely advertised to be extremely cheesy on the menu, but wasn't. No fancy presentations for a whole Peking duck. The serving size looked small like half size not whole.. also free appetizer starter pickle dish was never refilled despite repeated requests Had to ask to refill water, it was not done automatically. The pineapple beer was good but more like a cider, very mild. The yuxiang eggplant is not good. Too sweet, not spicy enough. Not enough garlic. The sweet and sour spicy fish is not good either. Staff was friendly and present whenever we needed them. For appetizers we got soup dumplings ( pork and pork with crab) both were great. We also had the fried fish appetizer which is like breaded and fried fish skin with vinegar sauce. I liked them but was expecting pieces of fish, but my friend loves them. We also had the duck spring rolls, which were amazing. For entree we had the half Peking duck (amazing) and opted to get the duck broth soup with it. There were about 10 pancakes that came with the half a duck. Looking at the soup, I thought it was going to be bland but it was actually amazing. It's a white broth with cabbage, tofu, and and duck bones- do not skip adding it on! We also both had the passion fruit green tea margarita, good but very concentrated and sweet. The restaurant was decorated nicely, seasonally for Halloween, but also architecturally was clearly a feat. The tables weren't all square, but some were round booths (which I've never experienced before) and the tiled bathroom and bamboo gates on the wall and lantern-like lighting ellicited Chinese heritage. Yummy and authentic Chinese cuisine! I went to the Jiang Nan in Flushing and was excited that they opened up shop on Long Island! We went here twice already and both times were great. The interior is really nice and they have a pretty branched tree right as you walk in. The seating is mostly wooden and it gives a nice modern feel. The service was alright, nothing outstanding but I didn't expect to be blown out of the water anyways. We always get the cooked fish, and it always has a ton of flavor! I really enjoyed the garlic flavor. Also, I have to recommend the eggplant dish. It's SO good and there's always none left at the end of dinner. Love love love this Chinese restaurant ! There are many different types of Chinese restaurant. This place is mixed of Shanghainese and Szechuan style place. The menu looks simple but all dishes look attractive. We are group of 3 adults and two kids. And we ordered 8 dishes!! They are all delicious!!!! Their Chefs make very good Authentic Shanghainese and Szechuan food. Definitely it's not like Chinese TAKE OUT restaurant. Totally different things. Please dont expect that Look at their garnishing, taste , and food presentations ... Hope their chefs are stable and always make good food here. The waiters and waitresses offer good services .
