I've seen a lot of 3-star reviews for this place but not sure why. Obviously, everyone has their opinion, but we really enjoyed what we ate at The Main Event. Huge menu offering good 'ole American food, and serving huge portions !! We learned that getting here early on a Saturday night (between 5 - 5:30p) means nothing cuz it's packed, and we learned they DO take reservations. Good to know. This place is popular... and for good reason. My husband ordered the BBQ baby back ribs and loved them. He said he was impressed with how good they were. I ordered a Chicken Caesar wrap, which was loaded with chunks of well-seasoned grilled chicken and some lettuce sitting on top of fresh pita bread rolled up. As my side, I got a Greek salad, which I then incorporated into my grilled chicken wrap. I loved putting it all together, but if you think I was able to finish that, you'd be wrong. I brought it home and enjoyed it the next day for lunch, although parts of it were admittedly soggy. I just ate around the soggy parts cuz it was too good to waste. We only visit L.I. (family lives here) once or twice a year, but now that we know about this place, I'm sure it will become part of our rotation. We loved what we had, so we want to try more ! read more

The menu looks great. The staff is wonderful. The food is so so. I ordered a steak rare. It was medium at best The meat was tough. It seemed like it had been frozen and quick thawed making it watery and tough. The deserts were great. I had the Mississippi mud pie. Very good. The drinks were very good. I ate here several years ago while attending a conference in a nearby hotel. I don't remember much about it so either is was not memorable or I was just too busy to think much about it. Well I was there with my wife and I was prepared to pay attention to the restaurant and the food. First this is a true sports bar. TV' s all around the interior and of course a bar. Most of these stars are for our waitress who was fabulous. Went over the menu and made suggestions. My wife ordered the Sizzling Fajitas which turned out to be so much food we'll be having the leftovers for lunch for the next week. I was torn between the Lobster Roll and the Soft Shell Crab. I went with the soft shell crab. Should have gone with the lobster roll but too late now. Not much flavor and came over a bed of rice with was way overdone. BTW, my wife had a margarita. Based on my prior visit I was not going back anymore, the food was two bit joint caliber.. My friends really wanted to go there so I decided I didn't want to be a party pooper. So, I reluctantly went and was very pleased, guess they weeded out the bad chef. My fish and chips were excellent and the prices were reasonable. However, if I get another bad meal I will delete this report as I don't want to go to a restaurant that eup and down on its caliber of food. so, as long as this review is visible it's good to go. Came here for Super Bowl and didnt disappoint. Food was pretty normal, but the standout choice was the Octopus Salad with Lump Crab Meat. It was large, tasty and made me feel healthier after gobbling down pints of good beer and greasy appetizers. I liked the sweet honey wings dipped in hot sauce. BBQ wings were a close second. Definitely worth a visit if you are looking for a TGIF style food experience, but classier. read more

Big open beautiful American restaurant bar kind of a place with an awesome menu that's got a little bit of everything on it If you like French onion soup, you have to get it. We met family last night and it was a great atmosphere to watch playoff baseball! The service was good and the food was good as well. I love my quesadillas but I didn't like my side caesar salad. The staff and service was polite and perfect. Our waitress Stacy was super helpful and courtious. The set up is very clean and there are 50 Tv so every game is on at least once. Back when this place was called Sluggo's and I was a fresh transplant from the Great White North, worked here as (one of the "older") servers and bar tender. Nice to see that despite new ownership many memorabilia has remained on the walls. Never miss a game on any one of the many television sets mounted. Stopped for lunch in Plainview today and was sorely disappointed. We frequent the Farmingdale location all the time and I now know that in the future to never come back to Plainview and to stay with the service and food in Farmingdale. Ordered Clam Chowder only to be told we don't have any today?, okay then ordered the Lobster Bisque. Well, warm soup never goes over well so 2 cups of soup had to go back to the kitchen after we had to get up and find our server, who was also responsible for the bar, Gabrielle. Lunch plates came out and again the food was not hot but only warm. Warm french fries and fish is not up my alley and a warm chicken quesadilla didn't fly with my husband either. We were both hungry and again our server was tending to the bar and never came to see if our orders were okay. Never had my soda refilled or asked either. Would have told manager if he came to table on his rounds but that never happened either. You can be sure I will never frequent this location again. I booked the room for about 35 people and the main event in plainview far surpassed my expectations. From start to finish they were so helpful, friendly and accommodating. The reservation process was simple and made me feel confident in my decision to have the party at this location. I decided on the appetizer menu with open bar. We arrived about 15 minutes early because this was a surprise party and we wanted to make sure everything was set. The room was already prepared and we were immediately greeted by the 2 waiters as we entered. They were super attentive, quick service and always with a smile. Nice and tender. Spinach artichoke dip- came out sizzling! It was very yummy! For my entree I chose pan seared ahi tuna. It was served over zucchini noodles that were tossed in a garlic and oil sauce. It was also served with sliced avocado and tomatoes. I could have done without the tomatoes, I didn't really feel it paired well with the dish...but the meal was still yumm! My friend chose the Chilean Sea Bass. He said it was cooked perfectly. Ok, I'm just gonna start off by saying that that comments I read here are ridiculous. The reviewers said they loved the restaurant and said it was great food but only rated the place 3 stars. What's up with that? I think they're comparing it to the best restaurant they've ever had which isn't the way Yelp's rating system is designed. This place is a lively sports bar, with reasonable prices that caters to the neighborhood. So it should be treated as such and rated on what kind of place is it. Is it as good as a fine dining steak joint in NYC? No. But it doesn't advertise to be that. You rate accordingly. It's my first time here and we tried coming yesterday for cinco de Mayo and it was absolutely packed. We didn't even try and get a table because the parking lot was so full. So today we try it and there's a lot of cars in the lot. Let me say our server is absolutely top notch. Her name is Dani and she's the real deal. Professional and gave us good recommendations. We started with the wings and they were great. I love that they serve them without breading. I really hate when places serve breaded chicken wings. All breading and no chicken. Not like this place. Wings were a B+ rating. Really tasty. Next we had steaks. They were great. It was someone's birthday and when the staff all came out to sing happy birthday, at the end a loud fog horn went off as everyone was clapping which made the entire restaurant take notice.
