I haven't been to The Orient in over 10 years! I usually go to Queens for the best dim sum; occasionally to Westbury for convenience. On this day, I was meeting a friend in Bethpage and we decided to go to The Orient. We went on a random Wednesday, so the dim sum during the weekends may be better. Everything is made to order (no carts), which was fine with us. Even though everything we ordered was made to order, the food didn't seem fresh...how is that possible?! Everything seemed frozen and reheated. The best thing we ordered was the Shrimp Rice Rolls...this was excellent...great texture! Everything else was lacking in freshness and flavor (bordering on bland). The extra soy sauce and chili oil we requested, didn't help at all. Quite disappointing. I have been here twice. My dad raves about it but I think this spot is meh. My first experience was pretty good. I got a lunch special for around $15 and everything was good. Not great but good. When we came back a few months later for my birthday I was very disappointed. We went on a Sunday afternoon and they did not have lunch specials. All of the shrimp dishes were over $30. This is absolute madness. It was significantly more expensive that any other Chinese restaurant I have ever been to in my life. The waiter was fine as was the food but those prices were insanity. We could have went to a place significantly nicer in every aspect for those prices. I won't return. Maybe they should run those lunch specials on Sundays. It was over $200 for 5 of us to eat- shrimp fried rice, sesame chicken, and a few other shrimp dishes. Insane prices!! read more

Very disappointed in my most recent experience here. The food used to be very good but something has obviously changed. Wonton soup basically tasted like hot water, egg roll was soggy and flavorless. Sesame Chicken was just so so. Fried rice tasted like it was mass produced somewhere else, certainly not freshly prepared. The Orient is not what it used to be. read more

I've passed by this place a few times but I've never tried it. I'm glad I finally did. They are in a smaller strip mall so parking can be busy. I came for dinner but there's also a lunch menu I'd like to try as well. Busy but we were seated right away. Got a few minutes to look at the menu and our order was taken and then they dropped the chips and duck and mustard sauce. The food came out pretty quickly and the portions were huge! Though people seem to love this restaurant; the several times I have been there , it was less than good. The food is so-so, the meals are never delivered at the same time for each person at the table, the rice and sauces with the dish are even later. We haven't been to the Orient for many years. Saturday night at 6:30 used to have lines waiting. No lines but plenty of take out bags. Our wonton -eggdrop soup wasn't hot and was kind of bland. The egg rolls were pretty big and cooked well but also kind of bland inside the crispy shell. The chicken with vegetables with brown sauce was a nice size portion but again... bland. Came in here after I ran the Brooklyn half marathon to celebrate an incredible PR with my family. Turns out if you come here later in the afternoon they don't have any dumplings left! We were able to try about 3 different ones, whatever was left on the cart. The food is always soo good here. Just be mindful of when you come for dim sum. The service is pretty mediocre though. When we were interacting with the employees they could not get away from us fast enough. Restaurant hasn't changed looks wise in years. This place is one of our regulars for local dim sum. It is located in small stip mall. On weekdays, you can order dim sum and on the weekends, there is cart service so there is more of a variety of dishes. If you want to decrease wait times on the weekend, go when it first opens. Dim sum overall is very good. Our favorites are beef rice roll and turnip cake. The restaurant has a nice decor. Service is efficient. They have instituted a surcharge if you use your credit card. I came here during the week only for the dim sum without the push carts. There is a decent selection without having to go to Flushing, Queens. Please try the eggplant stuffed with shrimp. It set the standard for foodaliciousness. The dish was made perfect. I was licking my fingers off the plate. It is the tastiest dim sum that I have had outside of Chinatown Queens or Manhattan. The steamed spareribs were good, but I would not order them again. I give them four stars max. I threw away my money on the fried tofu with shrimp. It was made with soft tofu, which disintegrated quickly after the first bite. I prefer firm tofu that stays hard. The fried tofu with shrimp deserves no stars. A special shout out goes to Helen, who gave me good service in a clean atmosphere. Because the prices are so affordable, I look forward to coming back and exploring the menu more. I have ordered from this restaurant before and have thought the food excellent. However, last night the food we received was subpar. It was like it came from a totally different restaurant. The Moo Sho Pork was dry and had no taste. The pancakes were dry, too. They were more like flour tortillas. Same with the Pork Chow Mein...tasteless. In fact, that was my assessment of all the food including the pork fried rice, shrimp rolls, egg rolls. Dim sum on Long Island! This is some of the freshest dim sum you can get in Nassau County because they make everything to order. You don't get the rolling steam cart experience like at large Chinese restaurants, but you do get the freshest hot dumplings around. The best thing on the menu are the beef or shrimp cheung fun (steamed rice rolls). They make it perfectly with just the right texture of chewy & sticky. The sweet soy sauce and the snap of shrimp inside gives it the perfect taste. Regular dim sum items like har gao & shumai are really good as well. Don't be afraid to try them all. We also got the Beef Chow Fun, which had really good wok hay flavor. If you have less foodie adventurous friends, they also have Americanized Chinese choices as well. It can get pretty crowded in here on the weekend, so come early before the lunch rush. This restaurant was opened by a former co-worker of my brother-in-law when they used to work together at the Grumman plant across the street. We came here as a group of 4 and ordered the chicken in brown sauce with eggplant and green beans, house special pan fried noodles, dried scallop with egg fried rice, and crispy pork chop with chili and spice. They have a large menu with big portions and the food comes with fried wontons for the table. The chicken in the brown sauce was tender and the eggplant and green beans were sautéed well. The crispy pork chop was tender and seasoned well. The service here is great. Our cousin is a regular here and they all know him when he came in, cracking jokes.
