Had a craving for some Dan Dan Noodles, ma po tofu and yung chao rice, and Chong Qing chicken & this place just hit the spot for me without going to Flushing or Chinatown. We have been customers for 10 years. Not even once we don't enjoy homey establishment. The people the food the service always make us feel warm inside. Linda and Richard s hospitality is magical. There are many Sichuan restaurants out there, however, by the family vote, we always always end up coming to Chef Wang. The food is by far from being distinctive! Our go to dishes are whole fish in whatever forms, double-cooked pork belly ( extremely high quality meat in a golden fat/lean pork ration. Another unique thing Chef Wang offers is the piano where no other Chinese restaurants would even has that vision. My son plays on his every visit. Linda, the chef (her husband and Richard enjoy his play very much. He gets his complimentary ice cream for his music. This is also plays as our family fun. Today our waiter is Kevin, a rather young , gentle, scholar-like and detailed man. He makes our dining experience very pleasant. Thank you Kevin. I think it's better to take out from Chef Wang. I haven't enjoyed my dining experiences here... the service is just ok and it's always cold inside. The coy pond is a nice touch, but I prefer their takeout, and with that said I really only like their beef with vegetables. One of the things I love most is amazing food and almost every dish at Chef Wangs is top notch! I've had the Salt & Pepper Squid, Crispy Beef, Peking duck and so much more. The dish that stood out more than anything else though are the Cumin ribs! These are my absolute favorite, love love love them A close second is the salt & pepper fish. The fish is perfectly seasoned & it just melts in your mouth. I can have this everyday without getting bored of it. I came here after reading the splendid review of Yelp Elite Cher Y. I took her recommendation to order the "Cheng Du spicy aromatic crispy fish". I did not see it on the menu, so I showed the waiter her review, and he told me that the " Hot Spicy Crispy Sliced Fish" is what she had. One word: amazing. This is the best Sichuan (spicy Southwestern Chinese food) that I have had outside of Flushing. The food stayed fresh the next day. Although the brown rice tempered the spiciness of the food, next time I will order any Sichuan dish mild due to personal health concerns. The Wonton Soup was made Chinese style (thin-skinned wontons). That's how I like it. I do not patronize any Chinese restaurant unless they make it that way. Long story short: I asked for a virgin piña colada and since they were out of it. I opted just for a simple cranberry juice. When the juice arrived the waiter made it known that since they were out of the piña colada they gave me the cranberry juice on the house. (Cool thanks, appreciate it - who am i to argue free drink) For some reason my sister suggested we pay in cash since they give 10% off if you do. (Which i had no idea, since I always paid via c.c) Came here to celebrate my sisters good news of being pregnant. So it was my treat. The waiter gave us the 10% off for paying in cash and I tipped 16% accordingly to the service i felt was appropriate. (Double the tax - I hate math) While we were getting ready to leave the waiter went up to my BIL (guess he seemed the easiest to bamboozle) and told him that he gave us 10% off our bill, gave us a free cranberry juice and we didn't even tip 15%. So my BIL, who didn't see the bill, ended up tipping 25% of the bill. I hadn't known that the waiter did this until we had left the establishment. How disgusting! I am obsessed with this place!! It is so beautiful and everyone is so nice! I frequently get the ma po tofu, which has the perfect amount of spice and flavor. For me, this dish provides 3 meals. I can't get enough. I tried the fish in hot chili oil recently and wow, the flavor is so good and the fish just melts away in your mouth. I love the orange slices and fortune cookie they provide with the bill. There's a small koi fish pond at the entrance. I've seen turtles too. I just pray that they're well taken care of, but the water and are does look clean. I dine here on my own sometimes with a book, and they just let me be. I never feel rushed to leave. We've had many good experiences at Chef Wang's, but also some not-so-good. The food is good and the prices are, too. However, after being a customer for a number of years, I felt I had to write. Several times, we have been there for lunch and have had to wait more than 20 minutes to be served in an uncrowded restaurant, while others who came in after us, were served before us. Okay. Today, I ordered over $60 of takeout food and they put it all in one paper shopping bag. Not only was the bag extremely heavy, but it was also raining outside. I politely asked for another bag and was rudely told, "No." I said the bag is too heavy for me and still the man refused. I had to struggle to my car with this bag while carrying an umbrella and opening my car. I'm 75-years-old. I will avoid eating or ordering from Chef Wang in the future. Too bad. Came here on a weeknight, not busy at all even though parking lot was packed. But plenty of street parking on Jericho tpk. We were seated immediately. Service was great. They were attentive. The two soups were delicious!!!!!! Portions were great too! Both had noodles in it and it was filling! We had leftovers too! We also ordered a beef tripe cold appetizer. This place deserves 4.5 stars for its Sichuan cuisine authenticity. The good little test is to sample the cold appetizers. In my case, the cold spicy beef tendon and beef and ox tripe in chili sauce. They both passed with flying color. The entrees were very good. The traditional Sichuan dishes tend to be on the salty side. If you don't like salty food, remember to tell the servers to remind the kitchen to go light on the salty. My recommendations are listed on the photos I posted along with this review. read more

Reading the reviews I had high expectations. Went last week and was very disappointed. We were barely greeted, maybe had a few words the entire time we were there. The food was good and prices reasonable but the service was just so cold. Not even "enjoy ur food" and when leaving I said thank you have a good night and no response. We came here for dinner and ordered the steamed pork dumplings, little juicy pork buns which are soup dumplings, braised pork belly sichuan style and general tso chicken. The steamed dumplings were very good and had a good amount of meat in them, so they weren't all dough. The soup dumplings weren't bad either. It was just a little disappointing that a few of them stuck to the pot they came in and opened up, which caused the soup to drip out. The braised pork belly was very soft and had a good flavor to it. The general tso was also good because it wasn't over breaded. The service was great, there was a large menu and the place had a good appearance, and you're not sitting on top of each other. Small parking lot, so you might have to park on the street. We'll be back. read more

If I could give this place zero i would. Beware of horrible management. Ordered food for delivery after a long day. Thought I had cash , ended up not having anything. So I asked the delivery guy can I have the receipt then I'll add the tip on the card. He REFUSED to give me my food 5x after asking for the receipt to add the tip and argued with me for 15 minutes for cash only , outside of my door !!! with my neighbors watching!!! I ended up having to call the store. Asked for the manager to see if I can add the tip on the card over the phone because his driver is refusing to give me my food because he wants cash which I don't have. manager said yes u can add the tip on the card what's the problem that "he doesn't have time to hear my complaining he doesn't need the business if I want to complain " never again. I can't believe a driver would refuse to give me food I paid for & would make a scene infront of my neighbors & have a manager be so disgustingly rude. Great local place for take out and dining in . It has an extensive menu but don't let that deter you because most are amazing. Here are my favorites from what I've tried : chicken fried rice ( tastes so rich ), walnut shrimp ( they are huge), Kung pao tofu ( simple yet the tofu is addicting ), the cold pork with garlic ( spicy and so flavorful ), and lastly the general tso chicken ( very different take from other Asian restaurant and I love their take on it ). Food is great! There is a hit-and-miss, but overall they have consistently provided authentic great food. I don't want to say they have bad service. The servers are very attentive. I feel a little understaffed. But I wish they had paid a little attention to the service; the dining experience will be much better. We regularly have a big party (like a party of 8). So it is an excellent place for a big party. We order West Lake minced beef soup (a big bowl of soup regularly shared at the table) and five small orders of wonton soup. I wish they didn't bring five wonton soup first. Five people had soup, three others had nothing to eat, and I felt awkward because West Lake Soup came much later. (Do I specifically tell them when to bring wonton soup? ) If they brought wonton soup at the same time as West Lake Minced Beef soup, it would be a more thoughtful service. Also, the wait staff was wasting time to keep pouring water. The team should have just left us with a pitcher of water. Since Sichuan food is spicy and it is hard to reach out to keep filling empty glasses. We purposely ordered the main dishes later. Because previously, we ordered appetizers and main dishes altogether. They would bring whatever the dish was ready, and some appetizers came last. I know; that is the Asian way. Bring everything out and share family style, whatever comes. But the menu says "Appetizers," they should be brought at the beginning of the meals, and main dishes should come after appetizers. Pretty much all Asian restaurants have this issue. Appetizer - Main Dishes. Because the menu is vast and various types of food are served under one roof, it is difficult to do "Authentic" service as trying to fit into Western culture. Anyway, the price is reasonable. So I may be asking too much for service, but I wish this restaurant take some more steps to improve the service quality. The restaurant needs more staff training in the kitchen and floor to do more thoughtful service. Besides the soup incident, Chef Wang is one of my favorite Chinese restaurants. I love this place. I'm not too fond of green beans, but I love green beans HERE. It's just sooooo yummy. Ma Po Tofu is delicious. Sichuan pepper has a great kick, and its exquisite flavor is excellent with a bowl of white rice. Diced Chicken Puff Pastry is excellent. It is Spicy Fried popcorn chicken. Smoke Tea Duck is excellent to share as an appetizer. Mongolian beef for people cannot have spicy food. Yan Zhou Fried rice is delicious. Like I mean .. I LOOOOOOVVVVEEE the food. *Side note ... if you don't like Szechuan peppercorn, this maybe a slight problem. Chef Wang makes a lot of their food with Szechuan peppercorn and it can be a bit spicy and does have a distinctive taste.* I love their hot and sour soup. Many Chinese restaurants I've been to, their hot and sour soup can be a hit or miss, taste different each time BUT at chef wang, it tastes the same every time. It's delicious with the right amount of peppery kick. The scallion pancakes and pan fried pork dumplings are also my favorites too. My son and I constantly fight over who gets the last piece and then I go and order more. I've had to order two extra orders many times ... it's so embarrassing.
