What a hidden unassuming GEM, right in the middle of Franklin Square! This restaurant is family owned/run and has been in business for about 2 years. The restaurant is smallish and can probably seat up to 18ppl. This is a unique Harbin restaurant (the Capital region of a Providence in Northeast China). This authentic cuisine is hard to find; even in Flushing, Queens! On their store awning, it states "We Make Real Chinese Food".... They ain't kidding!! Note: Closed on Tuesdays! We went for lunch on a Saturday, and the restaurant was full of Asian people. There was a steady flow of Asians the entire 2.5 hrs we were there! (Yes, we had a leisurely 2.5 hr lunch; catching up with friends from out of town. lol) Our menu (shared by 4 adults, 1 child): -- House Special Dumplings ($18/12pcs): we ordered these boiled. Tasty; especially with the chili sauce and vinegar. -- Sauteed Tofu Sheet w.Chili Peppers $18: traditional Northeast China dish. Good but would have been better with more chili peppers. We added chili oil for an extra kick. -- Double Cooked Pork w.Sweet & Sour Sauce $20: Excellent dish! Preparation is very unique! There was no actual sweet & sour "sauce" but rather, the sweet & sour condiments were cooked into the batter of the pork. Loved this dish! Get this! -- Mala Lamb Ribs $28: Another Excellent dish! The spicy and numbing Mala taste was obvious without being overly spicy. Great flavors, Great texture. Get this! -- Pork Fried Noodles $15: All noodles are hand-pulled on-site, with noodle chefs having over 20 years of experience. This dish was made with just ONE very long noodle! Served with a pair of scissors. lol Great texture, and soooo satisfying! Even better with some chili oil! This had limited protein but a good dish nonetheless. -- Northeastern Style Braised Pork Elbow $36: Excellent dish! Huge portion. Perfectly braised, fall-off-the bone deliciousness. It was slightly salty, so definitely eat this with some rice. Get this! -- Rice ($2/bowl): entrees do NOT come with rice, so order on the side. -- Condiments: on each table, there is a condiments tray consisting of chili oil, vinegar, soy sauce, and salt/pepper. Definitely try their chili oil and vinegar. This really enhanced the flavors of the food. But some of the dishes didn't need condiments at all, and were terrific as served. Customer service was so warm, welcoming and friendly! They are happy to answer any questions you may have, and offered great suggestions. So, if you've never had Harbin Cuisine before, peruse the 6 page menu and ask questions before ordering! Lots of great dishes on their menu! Parking: street parking is available (in front and on the side road). They do have a small parking lot in back but spots are limited since it's a shared lot. The Lanzhou noodle soup was delicious. The soup itself was slightly different in color from what I am used to but the flavor is about the same. There is a certain taste to lzbns which is described as "xian", and this soup has it. The pork sauerkraut dumplings were also great, as a Northeastern Chinese (Harbin) restaurant, the dumplings were as chonky as I expected with great wrapper texture. They give free pickled veg (pickled with Sichuan peppercorns!) and watermelon as well. Staff was attentive, I came on a Sunday dinner 630pm, was quiet, mostly takeout orders. We were looking for a Chinese restaurant and of course we used Yelp. This one was rated 4.9, which was amazing, but I was suspicious because there were only 29 reviewers. However, I was comforted by the fact that several were Yelp elite reviewers. Nevertheless, my party included another Yelp elite reviewer. I figured two tongues were better than one to judge . The restaurant is a modest sized, neighborhood, family run gem. The food is unique in that it is inspired by cuisine from Northeastern China. The menu is huge and the waitress was very helpful in explaining the various choices. We started with some amazing steamed dumplings, both shrimp and vegetarian. The vegetarian secret soup was delicately seasoned. The sweet and sour double cooked pork fillets, which is the highlight of the type of cuisine offered here, was quite different than expected. There was no sweet and sour sauce draped over the strips of pork rather the sauce was mixed into the pork before it was crispy fried. The result was delicious! The moonlit lotus pond was filled with a variety of vegetables, each cooked just right, not too mushy nor hard. The shrimp were very good but could have been more plentiful. The fish flavored eggplant dish was excellent and surprisingly vegetarian as the flavoring did not come from fish itself. Portions of all the dishes were quite generous. Service was excellent. Seating modest, not fancy, and clean. Pricing very reasonable. This restaurant is quite a find. We needed something new for takeout. We found Y and Z online and noticed they had a really interesting menu. Plus...HAND PULLED NOODLES. We ordered online. The place itself is small with a few seats, so it's more of a take out place. But they were very nice and our food was ready when promised. We ordered the Lychee Shrimp balls, Dried tofu and vegetable dumplings, hot and sour shredded potatoes and seafood freshly pulled noodles. Everything was really good. The shrimp balls did not have lychee in them, but looked like a lychee with the fried exterior. Very tasty..but cold have used a sauce. The dumplings were excellent, tasted very fresh and perfectly cooked. The Hot and sour potatoes is a dish I dearly love and they did it justice here...I can eat an entire order myself. The noodles looked suspicious...kind of like spaghetti...a milky broth and some seafood and vegetables...we were ready for disappointment. However the noodles were perfect hand pulled noodles with the correct texture and taste, the broth was extremely flavorful, yet mild...and the seafood was all perfectly cooked. There are many more things I'd love to try here, but need to go in an ask some questions...the menu is a bit complex in a good way. The only negative is the prices are a bit high...but the portions are generous and the food is very good so we will be back soon. read more

Very nice and clean neighborhood chinese restaurant. I ordered a beef noodle soup (swapped the beef for pork). The broth and soup was really really delicious. I also ordered soup dumplings which I will not rate at this time (they where cold by the time I got home (10 minutes) and the broth had seeped out of the dumpling. To be fair, I will try them again at the restaurant. My meal came with a pickled, slightly spicy salad which I enjoyed. Great customer service, friendly and attentive. Small place with a few seats and a takeout counter. We had eaten here a while ago under another owner but came back to try under new ownership. The owner was very sweet, friendly and attentive. She stopped us from over ordering. The portions were plentiful. . We started with a scallion pancake (yum) and spicy cucumber salad crunchy - with good kick. We also tried the soup dumplings, pan-fried chicken dumplings, and kung pao chicken. . These were the Kung Food Noodles from Y&Z Dumpling House in Franklin Square. Gorgeous broth. The beef was like butter. The veggies still crunchy and the noodles were perfect. . We devoured the dumplings but remembered to take a pic of these delicious hand pulled noodles - so long you had to cut them with scissors. . You can tell everything was made fresh. The dumplings were not doughy. They were so juicy and delicious I ate them without any sauce. . You could tell the owner was very proud of her food. She spoke about how they were authentic recipes from her town outside Beijing, China. A very sweet person who clearly takes pride in her food. . We will be back. read more

We just took out our dinner from Y & Z dumpling House. We were thrilled with this food! We got shrimp dumplings that were so far superior to any other local Chinese food. The soup that I ordered was so delicious! It's named 'Signature kungfu beef noodle soup' and I highly recommend it! The beef was tender, and the broth was so tasty. They make handmade fresh noodles every day. The owner brought our food to our car outside the door. She is so informative and such a delightful Person. My friend introduced Y & Z Dumpling House to me, and she could not stop raving about it since she went. My daughter and I went recently, and let's just say: it certainly won't be our last visit! We ordered the pork and pickled cabbage dumplings, sauteed crispy tender pork with green peppers, and the signature kung-fu noodles. I do not have a negative thing to say about ANY of these dishes. Welcome to the neighborhood. Y&Z Dumpling House just became my favorite Asian restaurant. I used to travel to Hong Kong and I can honestly state their food is authentic and delicious. The menu is unique with items you won't find in the run of the mill restaurants. Customer service is 5 star. They are so nice. Providing little extras that made the difference. This place has the best food around. The dumplings are outstanding and to die for with their homemade chili oil. We had the shrimp dumplings that were so juicy and the pork and pickled cabbage were equally as good. The hand pulled noodles are so authentic and make you never want to have any other type.
