I decided to try Golden House again. I ordered the 4-piece chicken wings with fried rice platter for $10. This is the best thing on the menu in my opinion. The fried rice was very flavorful and contained bean sprouts, onions, peas and carrots. The rice isn't loaded with soy sauce, it's more of a chinese 5 spice seasoning. The woman in the phone is kind of animated and a bit difficult to understand. The shrimp and broccoli is flavorful and the gooey sauce on it is thick and delicious. The food tastes good. No denying that. Even better than the shrimp and broccoli is the general Tso shrimp. Just get it. The veggie fried rice is really flavorful. Had an absolutely gorgeous lunch at Golden House which I found via a Yelp search close to a house that we are remodeling in Valley Stream in Nassau County in NY. Golden House in on a main drag next to a barber shop and a 99 cent store with parking meters( 25 cents for 30 minutes) in the front. Got a warm greeting from the owner Amy when I walked in. The menu looked pretty standard and I opted for the mixed vegetables in extra garlic sauce with vegetable fried rice instead of pork plus a bottle of water as my free drink( just 6 bucks!!!!!!) Loved that the chef took his time and out came this hot, fresh, steaming and delicious dish that smelled just heavenly. I did take a short video and uploaded it. The taste - divine. The sauce - tasty, light and simple. The portions- just right. The quality of the vegetables - very good esp the bell peppers, mushrooms, the eggplant and the broccoli. The love and care with which Amy served this and interacted with me and other customers- infinite!! I took 2 bites and ordered 2 more specials to go- the General Tso's and the Eggplant in garlic sauce but of course with extra extra garlic sauce. Amy told me that they have been here for 23 years. No surprise! Her chef was actually her very kind and cordial husband Lee who asked me where I was from and about my family. Sweet!!! Loved it!! Golden Kitchen is now under new management with many new menu options. I enjoyed the changes to the Hot and Sour soup. It was lighter and more flavorful with mushrooms cut to a good size for eating. It was spicier but personally I like that better. Ordered a Lychee fruit tea which came with lots of lychee fruit in it. It was sweet but not too sweet. Had chicken and mushrooms this visit and that did not seem changed too much but was enjoyable. I look forward to trying the rice bowl options which were added to the menu. New staff were very personable in my encounter. I also like that they added new chairs to the table in the store. Very comfy. For a Chinese takeout spot this place hits the spot. Ordered the general tso chicken and general tso shrimp with pork fried rice and it came out amazing. The outer part was crunchy and sweet and tangy, probably the best general tso variation I've ever had before. The owner is very sweet and friendly. This is another Valley Stream high school lunch spot because of how close it is to MJHS and VSCHS. I remember going here for lunch when I went to a memorial back in the day maybe 20 years ago. I had to write a review based on my experience ordering the General Tso Chicken. I have eaten and tried many Chinese restaurants over the the US but this has to be the worst General Tso Chicken I have ever had. It's incredibly beyond sweet soaked in a black gooey mess of a sauce. Usually General Tso has a orange reddish color texture but this was blackish color that overpowered the chicken with intense sweetness. Also the fried rice is salty with too much soy sauce. If you don't believe, order the dish yourself and see how disappointed you are. Maybe they see this review and prepare the dish the right way. The place is not very appealing to the eye, looks more like a place you would find in an urban city neighborhood. But we gave it a try any how.
