Blinkers was on my list of local restaurants to try after hearing rave reviews from a Cincy restaurant group on Facebook. I decided to try it out by taking my parents here to celebrate their 43rd wedding anniversary. We all really enjoyed our meals. My mom's steak looked great and she said it tasted just as good as it looked. My dad enjoyed a burger and I couldn't resist getting two appetizers as my meal, crab cakes and poutine, both of which were tasty. We shared a soft pretzel as our real group appetizer and it was huge with perfect cheese for dipping (perfect cheese: not spicy and a great consistency and flavor). One of the group's favorites. Four people had the Blinker's Breakfast- looked good. Eggs, hash browns, toast-saw one with bacon and one with (perfectly crisp) goetta. I had the Loaded Biscuit platter. Tender biscuits heaped with just the right (if not slightly 'more') amount of scrambled egg and cheese, topped with sausage gravy. Down the table was a club sandwich which seemed to be enjoyed. Atmosphere is very nice. Today we sat on the side (storefront) which was new for us. We've sat just past the bar (in the very comfy and roomy booths) and in the room behind with all that light. Certainly the portions are generous and price is good! We ordered the halibut, fish sandwich and fries, the filet, and the NY strip. We also ordered the big pretzel to start which was super soft and delicious! All of our entrees were ok--nothing mind blowing. I did like the NY strip and I absolutely loved the fries (some of the best I've had). The food was amazing! Stopped in last night for late night snack and all expectations were exceeded. I shared a wedge salad with my mom and we destroyed it. So good- I couldn't stop eating it. For dinner I got the crab cakes with a side of broccoli. They were good a little too much bread crumbs for my liking but the flavor was unmatched. The other two people I came with got burgers and they were cooked perfectly! The fries were another stand out. I had read all of the reviews for this place and saw they were mixed. We decided to take a shot. I called and made a reservation for 5 p.m. on a Saturday night. Saturday afternoon we were in Cincinnati and ran into a couple of friends and they decided they were going with us. I called and changed the reservation to four people. We arrived early at approximately 4:30. We walked in the door and waited a minute and the hostess came down to seat us. I told her we had a reservation and gave her my name and she did not know it was for four people. I think it was good thing it was early they were still able to seat us. We were greeted promptly by the waitress and she gave us the menus and offered to take our drink order. We were not ready for that yet so she came back. Our table ordered a a New Belgium Fat Tire bottled beer, a Long Island Iced Tea, a cocktail called Patio Pounder, and a Fresh Fruit Cosmo. My friend loved the cosmo, she had two. The waitress came back and explained the menu and took our order for the appetizers. The waitress was very nice. We ordered that truffle fries and the crab cakes. The Truffle fries came to the table hot and crispy and they were pretty good. The crab cakes were just okay. They brought some warmed up French bread to the table with little butter packets that was definitely nothing special and most of it was left in the basket. She came back and took our order for dinner. The wait was pretty long to receive our food. Our table ordered the 18 oz ribeye with a baked potato and a house salad, a crab crust fillet with seasonal vegetables and a caesar salad, the Blinker Burger with fries and a house salad, and lastly, salmon with mashed potatoes and seasonal vegetables. My husband said his 18 oz ribeye was horrible, it was over charred on the outside and he said in his effort to explain it that it was somehow very greasy, he didn't know how they accomplished that. The baked potato he got had butter on the side and he had not been asked whether he wanted anything else with it. The Caesar salad was pretty minimal but tasted okay. My fillet was over charred as well, I am wondering if it was just way too much seasoning and that is what is burnt on the outside? The cook on my filet was a little uneven but for the most part was what I ordered. The crab topping was very minced up and did not have much flavor however they gave me a lobster cream sauce on the side and it helped. The fried onion strings were not crispy and not good I just push them aside. The side of seasonal vegetables I liked they were cooked perfectly. My friend who had the salmon said it was cooked perfectly and about two bites later she showed me this real long pin bone that came out of the salmon, yes, really disappointing. She was served mashed potatoes and the lobster cream sauce as well and she said she liked it. My other friend got the burger and fries and he said definitely was not the best burger he had had. It was my husband's birthday so he got free dessert he ordered cheesecake to go. He said it was just okay. My friends both ordered bread pudding to go and that they reported back later that it was like a mushy block of bread with some chocolate sauce poured over. We received our bills and the waitress had mixed up our appetizers so she went back to fix them and when she did there was an additional Cosimo charged on my friends bill and she had to go back and fix that. Place can get pretty lively around the lunch and dinner rushes, and they do not do carry out. I almost always get a steak when I go here for dinner, but am also a huge fan of the shrimp Diablo. I had an absolutely terrible experience at this restaurant. I want to start out by saying that our server was fine. She was accommodating and kind. I ordered the strip steak for $27. It's reputed to be one of the best steaks in the city. I ordered medium rare, and what I received had only the slightest hints of pink. The steak was inarguably medium well. I sent it back, and either the owner or the manager came out and literally argued with me. He said that he has served thousands of steaks, and that mine was a perfect medium rare. He then aggressively asked me if I wanted rare instead. I said I wanted a vibrant red or pink steak. He brought out a rare steak. I was not belligerent or disrespectful. There is no reason for this older gentleman to come out and argue with me that I was wrong about my food. The rare steak tasted okay. The mac and cheese tasted okay.
