Man I really hate giving low stars! However this seemed like it would be the one for this. Sadly we were very let down this late morning. We got there about 11 and were seated within 15 min which was great! However the service lacked big time. Our server didn't check up on us throughout the meal, or we would have addressed these issues while there. Our meals were brought out one at a time, multiple minutes in between each time. And we were very disappointed with the food. I had ordered the California Eggs Benedict that came out very last, and what not done well. 1. The bacon was burnt and I couldn't cut through it(same with my sons kids meal, he wouldn't even eat it) 2 the eggs were cooked well. Which on that dish they should be runny. 3. Most of the hash was burnt as well. My husband got the grizz and said it was alright. He liked his eggs, we split our dishes and shared. However we probably shouldn't have done that because now we don't know whose dish made us sick or not. The place seems to be under new management because it just isn't doing to good. Lots of employees running around like they didn't know what to do. And ya we really didn't like the experience we had. We would like management to respond back so we can fix this. Thank you.

The restaurant was clean, service was great considering they were busy. The food was not great, I ordered chicken and waffles, my waffle was overdone. My husband ordered the Denver omelet, the breakfast potatoes were bland/unseasoned. I also ordered a side of ranch with my food and didn't know there was bacon inside and took a taste. I have a pork allergy so ultimately I didn't finish my food (most of us didn't). My son ordered the bacon Mac n cheese he had no complaints and said it was delicious. We also ordered the chicken tenders and fries, the fries were dark but not crispy so the oil might have needed to be changed. Ove

I went in on a Wednesday evening, and there weren't a lot of people. I got the Bear's Choice with sweet cream waffle, eggs, and sausage. I don't know if it's because I ordered takeout, so the food was not fresh and toasty anymore, but everything tasted only average. The waffle got a paw print on it, which was really cute, but I didn't love the texture and would probably try their pancakes or toasts next time. Also a bit sad that they didn't provide any ketchup for the eggs. Lots of people say the portions here are huge, but this entree I got also cost $10.99 so I think the portion was only reasonable considering the price. I didn't have that great of an experience this time, but I have heard good things from others, so I might still give it a chance later.

So, I've been to Black Bear diner before in San Diego, but this is our first time in Orem, Utah. I must say there's a consistent feel in the restaurants as you try different around the country, as I have. Leah staff to take care of you fish kitchen runs well, this is a Sunday morning and they got us in no problem and they're turning tables pretty regularly. Although we're just passing through, I hope to come back someday to this location because they gotta figured it out.

Eaten here twice in the last month and each time was good. First time was clam chowder and fish and chips that had flaky Cod that was not greasy. The soup was ok, clams we're not chewy so cooked at the right temperature, could be creamier but then again this is not New England!. Now I prefer my Cod to be larger pieces so not sure if this is homemade or from a box. Second time I had the Rueben that was better than most places in the area. Sizable sandwich with plenty of kraut and cheese, fries were crisp. Staff both times were friendly and not bad at all for a chain!

We didn't have to wait too long to be seated. The service was pretty quick. The portion sizes here are always big and filling. I love how they added powder sugar on top of the pancakes. The bacon was thick and crisp.

$9.99 for Two eggs, 2 strips of bacon, and 2 French toast. Tough to beat in this economy.

I'm torn between four and five stars on this place. The bacon is decent thickness and not like Denny's. It's got a good diner vibe and serves breakfast all day. In a lot of ways it's a kin to Callie's. The service is quick and it's a good place to bring a friend to breakfast. It beats Village Inn and Dennys in every respect. Skip IHOP and go here. Decent breakfast for around $10 right now...see my pic.

Food is decent for a diner. It's my go to place when I'm craving diner vibes, but it's definitely not the cleanest restaurant. And by not the cleanest I mean it feels as little dirty when we go to sit down. My partner got the chicken strips and they were good for the price. I got the chicken avocado club and it was good. I'll probably try something new next time we go. Service was okay, it was Easter Sunday so they were a bit busy. Coffee was decent.

When we arrived and sat down, we were greeted by Joe telling us that "House rules, you're not allowed to order the same item". Lol. Love that guy! We both ordered Denver omelets, one without onions, extra mushrooms, French toast, and grits and one without mushrooms, hash browns, and pancakes. First off, the pancakes were amazing! They're light, had crispy edges, and had a wonderful flavor. But the best thing was it was in the shape of little donuts, which was a nice surprise. Our entrees came but were somehow got switched. We didn't realize it at first but both were still good. Unfortunately, my wife put Chalula on hers and I put Tobasco on mine and we don't like each other's choice of condiments. The other unfortunate thing was that I had an eggshell in my omelet. Even though we had these misfortunes you can't hide the flavor of these dishes and they certainly don't skimp on toppings. My grits were too sweet today. If it's too sweet for me, it must've been really sweet. The only other criticism I saw was that they were filling the syrup bottles from large Log Cabin jugs. They also were using Idahoan shredded potatoes from a large carton. I can understand the potatoes but how great would it be to have freshly made syrup. Still a great experience and they are still one of the best breakfast places on the state.

My husband got the eggs & diced ham with a side of biscuits and gravy. My son got the French Dip because you can order breakfast or lunch at 10 am. Everyone ate a good portion if not all of their food. It was good. We will definitely be back. For the food but more for the service!

However, we did have one drink server where we had some issues with, but our main waitress was lovely. For starters, our table shared the baked ricotta, balsamic glazed brussel sprouts, and bread rolls with honey and butter. The brussel sprouts were good, but the bread rolls were my favorite! They were so incredibly soft and pillowy. They honestly didn't even need the bread and butter! I was most excited for the baked ricotta, but unfortunately it was a disappointment for me. Ricotta is a very mild cheese to begin with, but I tasted absolutely zero flavor from it and it was mostly just adding a textural element to the bread. The fig walnut guanciale jam was overpoweringly sweet and the guanciale was also nonexistent. Overall, what I expected to be a flavorful combination, fell pretty flat and bland for me. Onto the main, I got to try the Block burger and the house made gnocchi. The burger was a standard burger, nothing too crazy. I was surprised the patty was actually moist because it was cooked well done. The same jam from the baked ricotta was used, so wasn't a big fan of it because again the overwhelmingly sweet didn't do much to elevate the burger. I also missed any flavor from the truffle cheese sauce. So it was a pretty average burger. My gnocchi definitely tasted better than it looked. Another friend also got the same dish and it looked like they just split our portions in half and served it on two separate plates. In general, I wasn't a big fan of this dish. The braised short rib was very tender, but the whole plate sat in a pool of salty sauce. I couldn't really make out any other flavors. The scoop of crème fraiche tasted exactly like sour cream and was not the consistency that I expected. The gnocchi's were made well, but I prefer mine a little firmer. However, this is complete personal preference. Overall, service was good, but food fell severely short of what I expected. I was so excited for all of these elevated flavors and ingredients, but, sadly, none of them came through.

I recommend joining the waitlist in advance. It's tough to choose from such a wide range of delicious options, but my go-to pick is always the Mixed Berry Dutch Baby, Baby! The berry syrup and cream cheese topping set it apart from other breakfast places. We also had the Classic Breakfast Special, with crispy bacon cut thick to perfection. The interior is one of the most distinctive things about the place. Nearly all the Art Deco furnishings, the booths, mahogany paneling, black glass counter, and light fixtures, were salvaged from Lamb's Grill, a Salt Lake City restaurant that had operated since 1919 before closing in 2017. Eating here feels a bit like dining inside a piece of Utah history. The service is usually excellent, and you can tell they take the motto behind their name seriously: "True service is true religion." This visit, our waitress did seem in a rush to turn the table, but the quality of the food made it easy to overlook. Worth noting: they run a Second Chances charity that supports people in recovery from addiction, those reintegrating into society after incarceration, and folks rebuilding after financial hardship or other life challenges. It's a meaningful mission, and it's part of what makes this place feel different from your average breakfast spot.

We ordered the chicken sandwich, buffalo cheese rosemary fries, sweet potato fries, and the beet salad. The chicken sandwich was pretty good, with a thick cut of chicken, though it could have used a bit more seasoning. The sweet potato fries come in one side and are crinkle cut - very good, though I wish they had normal crinkle cut fries too. The regular size rosemary fries was a bit on the smaller side, which is why we had to get another side of fries. The disappointing thing with the fries is that they make it sound like the fries are topped with the melted blue cheese, but it actually was just a side of sauce that came cold, which was unexpected. The beet salad was pretty good but could have used more vegetables on top of the greens. After you order, they come to your seat with the food. Overall, it is a big space that accommodate many customers with outdoor seating as well. We enjoyed our time here but there could be some improvements with the food.
