If you are a single head for the counter. Almost always no waiting. There can be some waiting even if you have a group or more than one person. It does seem to move very fast but then when you enter you wonder why you were waiting at all. They have a machine that juices the orange right there for you. This is just an example of the kind of extra steps taken in the kitchen making the food here stand a little bit above other places. It's a standard set by a franchise. Making it stand out as each location is run a little bit differently and a little bit differently laid out. Service is always good and the staff keeps moving. Felt like everything is a little bit bigger. Larger than size egg servings. Bacon was actually thick cut. French toast was thick cut yet soft all the way through because it was clearly soaked well in an egg mixture. Seems a little exactly sized just a little bigger. Keeping up with the Bear theme. What the heck is going on with the management at this place. My friend and I have been going to black bear for years. We've always enjoyed their food and large portions ( enough to bring some back for a late night snack) But recently my friend was told he was banned from the restaurant for making an inappropriate comment to one of the waitresses, I was there, nothings was said that was inappropriate. Another friend of ours who worked there told the manager that the other waitress was exaggerating any comment and wanted to be noticed. The manager apologized to my friend. After going back to the establishment after a few months Him and I and my brother ordered our food, I was accompanied by my medical service dog who is trained and sets perfectly under my table. I have to bring my dog with me to keep him consistent to these kinds of environments so that if I am alone and suffer a heart attack he will do his job to get help for me. This evening my friend was pulled aside by the manager for some reason. I didn't know until later that he had to contend with her to allow me and my brother to finish our meal. Apparently someone else decided to lie on me stating I cursed at her after she asked me to remove my service animal a few months back and I was told to not come back. I'm just a customer wanting to enjoy my meal. I don't need to be caught up in some petty snowflake drama accusing me of things against my very nature. We make friends where ever we go. The last waitress we befriended I ended up teaching a bible study too and baptizing her in a public lake. She's a good kid and has a brain on her shoulders . These other princesses don't know what it means to provide customer service. Rather to demand attention for their little dramatic pitty parties. I will not be returning to Black bear ever again. I deceived to take my 85 year old client to lunch for her birthday. She chose this place. By the time we got to be seated and ordered and received our food it took a total of 41 minutes. When the food arrived and 3 bites into it I chomp on something that isn't supposed to be there. Wax paper from the sliced cheese they use. Like a big chunk of it! With the cheese melted onto it. The waitress said oh my gosh I'll go show the cook! (Not before I got a photo of it) runs off with the paper and then comes what I am guessing is a floor manager to apologize and offer me something else. I declined and just ate the fries. Now comes time to pay the check and I asked him to take the price of the burger off. Nope. He said I had eaten half of it already. Really??? At this point I was just PO'd and said just charge me for the fries which he charged me $7! I'm pretty sure fries don't cost $7. read more

We wanted to let you know we are very sadden today when we went into Newberg, Oregon Black Bear diner today. First off we walked in waited only to be skipped on being seated. Then we found out the best server was fired. Suset H. We therefore we walked out after we paid for the coffee. My boyfriend went and talked to the manager and he proceeded to tell him the reason she was fired ( illegal I believe and not our business ). We will not be returning to Black Bear. We will be finding a new regular place to go. Poor management, poor decision we will be letting our friends know and be sharing on Yelp and on Facebook. Suset is and was a shining light for your establishment, we were made to feel like family not just a customer. There is something to be said for that in this day and age. I would truly hope from the corporate standpoint that you might investigate into this situation, and possibly be able to find some sort of reconciliation. Many people are made to feel uncomfortable by an outgoing and shining personality, who is not afraid to laugh and be outspoken. I certainly hope this is not the reason that caused concern and ultimately the demise of her job. I stopped your manager from telling me the rest of why she was terminated, as in his own words, "she was on her last leg" I did not need to hear that as a manager myself, I found that to be conducted and very poor and I'm sure Suset would not like to know that the reasoning for her termination has been discussed with customers. Black Bear Diner is known for large portions of mediocre food and for being very "homey" and family-friendly. The menu is huge. Everyone will find something. They also have a big children's menu. The food is basically good. On my last visit, I had a dinner salad and everything was nice and fresh. No complaints about basic food quality. The food is just basic diner favorites. There's no specialty, nothing unusual, no compelling reason to come here. But, the portions are famously large. One person in our group had the special prime rib and it was about 50% fat. They were disappointed. But, for the price, don't expect much of the prime rib. Just don't get it here. There are plenty of other options here. Speaking of groups, I have come here several times with large groups (the cuisine here is the sort of thing that's good for groups). The kitchen and servers here do well with large groups. 18 meals hit the table within just a few minutes and all were correct. This place is good for children with an extensive children's menu. Vegetarians, however, will find much more limited options. The bar service is beer and wine with limited selections of both. Black Bear in Newberg is just off of Highway 99W and can be accessed north- or south-bound. They have their own parking lot. So, no problem finding the place, getting there, or parking. Again, great for a mixed group. And handicapped access is good too. In short, this is a sort of family diner place. The food isn't particularly bad nor good. It's big portions of mediocre food with good service and decent prices. But, this is a good place for a large group. read more

The food here is amazing! I would say you get what you pay for. All the silverware is clean as well as the tables. The surface is amazing. Everyone is nice to you. it is also fun to take pictures outside with the wood bears. There is also a mascot that comes out once in a while, which is fun for the kids. She is thoughtful, professional, efficient, and friendly...and she demonstrates the extraordinary gift of caring for the restaurant's guests. The restaurant recently changed owners and, frankly, the jury's out on whether the new management will sustain the high standards set by the previous owner. Bears, Bears, Bears. Once you walk in, you are greeted by so many Bears it is almost unbearable (see what I did there?) Very comfortable and family friendly aesthetic. We were greeted by hostess immediately and shown to a booth away from other people (like we asked for due to a 2-yr old who was kind of cranky.) Waitress was amazing and very accommodating to our toddlers needs. Service was attentive but not overbearing (there it is again.) We spilt a chocolate milkshake and I ordered their big ass burger (10oz patty on a bun the size of a small child's face.) My wife had a regular burger and son had kids pasta. They do their food in three sizes from what I could tell: Papa, Mama, cub and portions are in accordance to these sizes. Food was enjoyable but we had to cut out early due to an overactive, sugar filled child. Would have been 5 stars but wife's fries were cold and they were out of Oreo crumbles for milkshake. My fries were hot and fresh though...Seems like she got end of one batch of fries and I got start of new batch? ‍ We didn't send them back or bitch about the lack of Oreo crumbles (we are not here to be difficult customers.) If you are too, and you are looking for that diner that you miss from Brooklyn, Queens, Staten Island or Long Island, I don't care if it takes you two hours to get here, you need to get here! We had an awesome cheeseburger, French fries, soup, grilled cheese sandwiches and other things, not to mention the awesome chocolate mousse pie at the end! The food was promptly served, extremely fresh and served medium rare, just the way I asked. The waitress served me an end-of-night coffee which was burned, unfortunately. This is typical in New York as well. She acknowledged that it was the end of the night, and had been sitting. So I have a suggestion for the owner... If you don't want to serve fresh coffee within an hour of your closing time, please invest in a keurig machine with cartridge coffee for late-night arrivals and you will get very happy customers... Isn't it worth it? They did not charge me for the coffee. I highly recommend this place nevertheless! read more

The freshly squeezed orange juice made it for me! So many places say "freshly squeezed" and then bring out something that is from a bottle with sugar. I was so happy to see they had an actual orange juice machine just outside their kitchen for everyone to see. I want to encourage more restaurants to do more fresh food. The service didn't start out well, we put our name down and stood right in the lobby which was busy full of people, and the hostess called our name 3 times but five of us did not hear it. It might be helpful if they got a loud speaker for the front to announce names. We waited for at least 15 minutes. Something else I loved was the ketchup, they have their own brand without corn syrup. It does have sugar but thank God no corn syrup. I love seeing places progress with this. The salt was not good at all, the lowest quality salt. I hope they will consider real sea salt. The servings are huge. I had an orange juice, earl grey tea and hash browns because the eggs are from Sisco - ew gross low quality cage eggs. They did have cookies in the front that said Non-gmo and made with cage free eggs. read more

Servers are all very nice, but the cooks need serious training! They also give you plenty of food, but if its yesterdays luke warm dried up hashbrowns, or cold eggs, who cares?? Do yourself a favor and drive just a little further into Wilsonville where their Black Bear is consistently excellent. You won't be sorry and it's a nice little drive.
