My mom, my youngest son, and I came in for dinner tonight. When we were seated, we noticed a dirty cup ring on the table and asked our server if it could be wiped. She said yes, but walked away and didn't return for about 10 minutes. When she came back, I asked again if the table could be cleaned so my mom wouldn't put her jacket in it, and also requested a kids menu. She huffed, wiped the table, handed us the menu, and walked away. Another 5-8 minutes went by without any greeting or drink order being taken. A second server (with long hair, who said she was the GM's daughter) came to ask if she could get us something to drink. We ordered two waters and a root beer. She then asked the original server to take our food order. When the server came to the table, she didn't greet us or say anything--just stood there. I finally spoke and suggested she start with, "Hi, what can I get started for you today?" and we placed our order. The food came out incorrectly at first (brown gravy instead of white), but it was fixed and that part was fine. While we were eating, my son needed a root beer refill. I placed the empty cup at the edge of the table, but the server ignored it. After waiting about five minutes, I went to the counter to ask for a refill. Only then did she come up and ask what I needed. I asked her for a refill and requested to speak with the manager. Another employee went to get him. I explained what had happened and told him this would be our last visit. He didn't seem overly concerned. I understand being short-staffed, but this level of disregard for guests is unacceptable. When he asked what I would like to see done, I said additional training for the server. He didn't even offer a free meal which I was expecting after the way we were treated, or heck even just take care of the whole bill. It was only $28. The food here is amazing, but due to the service we experienced tonight, we will not be returning. read more

He said it was pretty good. 4.2 stars. The bacon though tasted different and didn't feel like it was fried fresh. But other than that he liked it. 2. Two of us got Chicken strips and fries and these were not strips. These were like 3-4 whole chickens lol. I've never seen anything like it but they were so delicious! The fries were amazing. And I'm very picky on fries! The ranch was amazing as well and I'm a ranch snob. Very picky but this stuff was so good! 3. Chicken bacon ranch sandwich and sweet potato fries! She liked it but said her chicken was a bit dry. She would try something else next time. 4. Chicken Ceasar salad - it was pretty big. She said chicken was dry though and didn't really care for it too much or eat more than a couple bites. She ended up eating my chicken strips with me. Had a great meal at JS Diner! We ordered two of their gluten-free burgers with crispy fries, and both were absolutely delicious. The patties were juicy and well-seasoned, and the GF buns held up perfectly--no sogginess or weird texture like you sometimes get elsewhere. The fries were golden and crispy, just the way we like them. Portion sizes were solid--super filling without going overboard. It's the kind of spot where you can get a satisfying meal for about $20 a person including tip, which feels like a great deal these days for the quality. There a man that was in a teal apron in and out of the kitchen coughing into his hands in front of the counter. Did not get asked if we wanted drinks. I ordered a BLT. It sat on the window counter for so long the lettuce was soggy. There was no tomato. My husband took his little slices off his burger so I could have them. The bacon looked burnt, but was just hard and over done. Bread was sort of toasted, but so lightly toasted that it was more like stale bread. Husband's burger was over done. I almost just sent mine back, but we would have been there all night. I know the waitress has been working doubles (because you could hear her all through the restaurant telling everyone multiple tables) but this was absurd. We've eaten here twice now. The first on Sunday, when it was the only option aside from fast food. Then Monday, because Sunday's dinner was so good. Sunday, I had New England Clam Chowder, which from the east coast is a tough sell. But it was perhaps the best clam chowder I've had that I haven't made. Once this was my go to place. For the price it was a good value. Never again. Ordered a omelette with ground beef, onions, spinach,, sour cream and mushrooms, they've made this several times for me before.; it's similar to San Francisco Joes. The menu is similar to Black Bear Diner, Shari's and Denny's... But the food is in a league of its own. It disappoints me to have to write this review. We have been a long time patron of J's. It has, in the past had consistently good food and service. There have been times when it has been erratic. The restaurant has gone through a recent facelift, which was needed and nice. In the last many months, perhaps a year or more, the bar has been understaffed, especially during busy times. The big change now has been the food. About two weeks ago, I ordered a Reuben sandwich, which I have had many times before. It was, comparably, dry and not nearly as tasty or complete as it has historically been. Next, a patty melt. The bread was burned. Last night a small group us ate there. I ordered the BLT (add avocado) and onion rings. The bacon was black, not quite a burned flavor, but hard and tough. The onion rings were so overcooked as to be inedible. Another in the group got onion rings that were the same. If that wasn't poor enough, the "rings" were remnant pieces that looked like the chips at the bottom of the bag. I wish I'd taken pictures. Not sure what is going on, but the management has a big job to do. I know of several people who have, in the last 4 months, quit coming to the bar at all because of the poor service by some of the workers. These were long, long time customers The sign is boasting '50 years' of going strong. I hope the issues are remedied soon such that there will be many more. read more

One day I was hungry while out and about, using Yelp to see what was nearby. Breweries, distilleries, cideries, wineries, wine bars, taprooms, higher-end dining (requiring reservations) and fast food. Where are all the middle options nowadays? Apparently diners are no longer a thing, and I'm not talking about Shari's, Denny's or Coco's. I am talking about the smaller, family run places that focus on breakfast, sandwiches and classic dinner entrees. I'm sick to death of seeing the same restaurant format repeated over and over again, and I will be the first to say that brunch is overrated. Sorry, rant is over, but wanted to provide context on how I found J's. I got a breakfast skillet which was not only delicious, but the portion size was very generous. I think I paid around fifteen dollars for it- I also got a short stack of pancakes which were the perfect texture. My favorite is that they provided their house syrup instead of maple syrup- another controversial opinion, but maple syrup is too watery by itself! It needs to be blended with other ingredients to form that thick consistency that is so satisfying. The location is a bit weird- it's next to a hotel and can be a bit tricky to find if you aren't expecting that. The service was very kind but a heads up that the restaurant appeared to be a bit understaffed- likely not their fault, but don't expect lightning fast service. I didn't try their pie and other bakery items, but will put it on my list for next time. If you're looking for a more traditional, relaxed meal then J's is recommended. read more

I loved this place fire years! Today it's "different". The service is great, always is! The food has changed since I was here just last month. The omelette is much smaller. The hash browns are like a section cut from a larger section. You get one large piece of toast instead of two smaller pieces. My wife's biscuit just falls apart when trying to put jelly on it. She said "one end is hard", (weird), and it's cut from a pan of biscuits instead of individual biscuits. Hoping things go back to the old way. Real hash browns, more toast, "4-egg omelette", and a "real" biscuits. Still like this place. The service always makes it worth it. read more
