Went in with my family from out of state, Aly was our server. She was rude and didn't check on us once throughout our meal. We are from out of town and saw this place on yelp. It's right across from our hotel so we went there for lunch! This place has high stars for a reason! We were extremely impressed. We were seated right away, there were 5 of us. Had time to review the menu and place both drink or food orders at same time rather quickly. Food arrived within 10 minutes of ordering and my god! The food portion sizes are ginormous!!! You get more for your buck that's for sure! The photos don't do it justice! The food was delicious and tons of options! Lots of lighting, seating and friendly customer service. Here's what we ordered with photos to give you an idea how huge these plates were. 1. Pancake Breakfast (3 pancakes, eggs and bacon)! He said it was pretty good. 4.2 stars. The bacon though tasted different and didn't feel like it was fried fresh. But other than that he liked it. 2. Two of us got Chicken strips and fries and these were not strips. These were like 3-4 whole chickens lol. I've never seen anything like it but they were so delicious! The fries were amazing. And I'm very picky on fries! The ranch was amazing as well and I'm a ranch snob. Very picky but this stuff was so good! 3. Chicken bacon ranch sandwich and sweet potato fries! She liked it but said her chicken was a bit dry. She would try something else next time. 4. Chicken Ceasar salad - it was pretty big. She said chicken was dry though and didn't really care for it too much or eat more than a couple bites. She ended up eating my chicken strips with me. She wouldn't get it again but shes also a picky eater! If you love salad this thing is huge. *She loved the chicken strips of mine she ate. Also had a Side of fries for the table as appetizer. Overall this place was so good and we would absolutely come back and try more items as there was so much to pick from. I highly recommend it. The service started off slow our waitress didn't take our drink order and the assistant manger had to come and take our order. I ordered a medium well New York strip steak, They brought out a rare ribeye. That was not an issue for me because i knew it could be easily replaced but, our server started at us blankly when we asked for it replaced. She brought out a tiny plate to push my steak onto. The assistant manger was so sweet that he gave us back our stake and comped our new one! We did have an issue with the grilled cheese when i finished one half i took a bite on the next and i saw something shiny. When we opened up the grilled cheese we were shocked to find parchment plastic embedded into the cheese. The kind manager was able to comp that for us so that didn't matter too much. Overall the food was good, our server gave us little to no service. The only person that saved our service was the very kind assistant manger. My mom, my youngest son, and I came in for dinner tonight. When we were seated, we noticed a dirty cup ring on the table and asked our server if it could be wiped. She said yes, but walked away and didn't return for about 10 minutes. When she came back, I asked again if the table could be cleaned so my mom wouldn't put her jacket in it, and also requested a kids menu. She huffed, wiped the table, handed us the menu, and walked away. Another 5-8 minutes went by without any greeting or drink order being taken. A second server (with long hair, who said she was the GM's daughter) came to ask if she could get us something to drink. We ordered two waters and a root beer. She then asked the original server to take our food order. When the server came to the table, she didn't greet us or say anything--just stood there. I finally spoke and suggested she start with, "Hi, what can I get started for you today?" and we placed our order. The food came out incorrectly at first (brown gravy instead of white), but it was fixed and that part was fine. While we were eating, my son needed a root beer refill. I placed the empty cup at the edge of the table, but the server ignored it. After waiting about five minutes, I went to the counter to ask for a refill. Only then did she come up and ask what I needed. I asked her for a refill and requested to speak with the manager. Another employee went to get him. I explained what had happened and told him this would be our last visit. He didn't seem overly concerned. I understand being short-staffed, but this level of disregard for guests is unacceptable. When he asked what I would like to see done, I said additional training for the server. He didn't even offer a free meal which I was expecting after the way we were treated, or heck even just take care of the whole bill. It was only $28. The food here is amazing, but due to the service we experienced tonight, we will not be returning. read more

Had a great meal at JS Diner! We ordered two of their gluten-free burgers with crispy fries, and both were absolutely delicious. The patties were juicy and well-seasoned, and the GF buns held up perfectly--no sogginess or weird texture like you sometimes get elsewhere. The fries were golden and crispy, just the way we like them. Portion sizes were solid--super filling without going overboard. It's the kind of spot where you can get a satisfying meal for about $20 a person including tip, which feels like a great deal these days for the quality. Server was a little ditzy and took a while to get to us. Also it was a little loud but I like the openness and well lit room. Definitely a spot we'll be coming back to. It is a typical breakfast diner, with good service overall. - Chorizo scramble (3.5/5): Cooked well, good flavor, but could have been seasoned better. Came in tonight 12/21. 1 server in the dining room and another one in the bar. We should have taken that as a sign to leave, but apparently we learn lessons the hard way. There a man that was in a teal apron in and out of the kitchen coughing into his hands in front of the counter. Did not get asked if we wanted drinks. I ordered a BLT. It sat on the window counter for so long the lettuce was soggy. There was no tomato. My husband took his little slices off his burger so I could have them. The bacon looked burnt, but was just hard and over done. Bread was sort of toasted, but so lightly toasted that it was more like stale bread. Husband's burger was over done. I almost just sent mine back, but we would have been there all night. I know the waitress has been working doubles (because you could hear her all through the restaurant telling everyone multiple tables) but this was absurd. We've eaten here twice now. The first on Sunday, when it was the only option aside from fast food. Then Monday, because Sunday's dinner was so good. Sunday, I had New England Clam Chowder, which from the east coast is a tough sell. But it was perhaps the best clam chowder I've had that I haven't made. Bacon slices could have been crisper, but that's just nitpicking. My husband had a fantastic chocolate shake, amazing fries, and a super delish grilled cheese on sourdough. Once this was my go to place. For the price it was a good value. Never again. Ordered a omelette with ground beef, onions, spinach,, sour cream and mushrooms, they've made this several times for me before.; it's similar to San Francisco Joes. What I got was a hamburger patty cut in half , spinach and onions, no sour cream or mushroom. To top it off the potatoes and toast were stone cold. I offered to pay full price, but when I told the manager about it I got only excuses. Go somewhere else. There's Newbergundian or Black Bear Diner across the street. Too bad, it was a good place. The menu is similar to Black Bear Diner, Shari's and Denny's... But the food is in a league of its own. On our most recent visit, we had the Bacon Cheeseburger, Chicken & Waffles, Liver & Onions, and the Ranch Skillet. The grandkids love breakfast and so we decided to give J's a shot.. Great Decision! Spectacular breakfast -," J's omelet" was just the ticket for a rainy morning in The Willamette Wine Country! My granddaughter had the strawberry waffle and my daughter chose the Sitka Benedict! While the food was excellent, the server was even more of a treat. It disappoints me to have to write this review. We have been a long time patron of J's. It has, in the past had consistently good food and service. There have been times when it has been erratic. The restaurant has gone through a recent facelift, which was needed and nice. In the last many months, perhaps a year or more, the bar has been understaffed, especially during busy times. The big change now has been the food. About two weeks ago, I ordered a Reuben sandwich, which I have had many times before. It was, comparably, dry and not nearly as tasty or complete as it has historically been. Next, a patty melt. The bread was burned. Last night a small group us ate there. I ordered the BLT (add avocado) and onion rings. The bacon was black, not quite a burned flavor, but hard and tough. The onion rings were so overcooked as to be inedible. Another in the group got onion rings that were the same. If that wasn't poor enough, the "rings" were remnant pieces that looked like the chips at the bottom of the bag. I wish I'd taken pictures. Not sure what is going on, but the management has a big job to do. I know of several people who have, in the last 4 months, quit coming to the bar at all because of the poor service by some of the workers. These were long, long time customers The sign is boasting '50 years' of going strong. I hope the issues are remedied soon such that there will be many more. read more

They forgot a whole item and it took 20 minutes for them to make it for us after getting our meals. They didn't check up on us at all. We came to get The Meltdown" grilled cheese. One of our party had been the night before and was talking about how much bacon was on the cheesy blt. We did notice there seemed to be much less bacon than there was on the sandwich the day before. I did not order the meltdown. I ordered the Greek omelette. The omelette was filled with spinach, feta, tomatoes, and olives. We all enjoyed our meal. The restroom were clean. And the restaurant was also clean. The one negative I really feel strongly about was when we walked in not one of the 5 staff members even acknowledged we were there. One day I was hungry while out and about, using Yelp to see what was nearby. Breweries, distilleries, cideries, wineries, wine bars, taprooms, higher-end dining (requiring reservations) and fast food. Where are all the middle options nowadays? Apparently diners are no longer a thing, and I'm not talking about Shari's, Denny's or Coco's. I am talking about the smaller, family run places that focus on breakfast, sandwiches and classic dinner entrees. I'm sick to death of seeing the same restaurant format repeated over and over again, and I will be the first to say that brunch is overrated. Sorry, rant is over, but wanted to provide context on how I found J's. I got a breakfast skillet which was not only delicious, but the portion size was very generous. I think I paid around fifteen dollars for it- I also got a short stack of pancakes which were the perfect texture. My favorite is that they provided their house syrup instead of maple syrup- another controversial opinion, but maple syrup is too watery by itself! It needs to be blended with other ingredients to form that thick consistency that is so satisfying. The location is a bit weird- it's next to a hotel and can be a bit tricky to find if you aren't expecting that. The service was very kind but a heads up that the restaurant appeared to be a bit understaffed- likely not their fault, but don't expect lightning fast service. I didn't try their pie and other bakery items, but will put it on my list for next time. If you're looking for a more traditional, relaxed meal then J's is recommended. read more
