Plain biscuits

Received an old biscuit with mold. I've never had such bad experience at any Black Bear diner until now. I called the restaurant and all they said was that they would check the other biscuits. The manager kept mentioning that it may be avocado but that is impossible as my order came with two plain biscuits on the side.

Happy Customers.

Very nice. Staff is very friendly and personable First we were met with smiles and seated right away. Dilly was quick to get our beverage orders. It was homey in just the right way. We weren't seated too close to other families. That was nice. Dilly even asked if the table he was seating us was okay; I truly appreciated that. Then the sweet team members, Mercedes and Emily. Mercedes was actually the floor manager. Very professional with a lovely smile. Emily was also attentive and helpful. We really enjoyed the service and the ambiance. Thanks so much. Happy customers. We had the chicken fried steak (scrumptious) with sweet potatoes fries and onion rings. The salad was just right, too. For dessert, a scoop of huckleberry and a scoop of chocolate ice cream.

Fish & Chips - $14.99

This place is right next to the Marriott Springfield Suites and basically shares the parking lot with them. Since I happened to be staying overnight at this hotel on a recent road trip, I decided to just walk on over and have dinner there. The food was good and the service was fine. Black Bear Diner is known for good food and generous portions. I ordered the Fish & Chips, which goes for $14.99. They gave me three large pieces of fish, a side of cole slaw and a large portion of fries. In all fairness I wouldn't say it was exactly the best I've ever had, but it was tasty and well worth the money.

Shasta Veggie Scramble (360 cals.)

We stopped here along the way to our destination as it's conveniently located off the freeway. We were immediately seated and greeted by our server. I started off with just a classic coffee because it's a must when going to any diner. I also appreciate when fresh squeezed orange juice is offered. I went with the Shasta scramble and you have the option to choose between toast, biscuit or pancakes. I opted for the pancakes as I tend to enjoy a combination of sweet and savory. We were constantly checked up on as our coffee mugs were regularly refilled. This is a solid spot for classic diner food with no frills and excellent service.

Do you serve gluten-free pancakes or do you have gluten-free bread/toast? And do you serve breakfast all day?

So sorry to be the bear-er of bad news,,, no we do not.

Do you still have the small pies? I didn't see them on the menu.

Yes we do Ron :) Unless otherwise stated, all cobblers and cream pies are in the small tin - perfect for sharing!

Do you take reservations? Thank you

Place had a fun farm theme, from the exterior red barn style architecture, to the barn doors between the dining area and booths, and the all American decor. It was very packed for a Friday morning but we were able to get seated within a few minutes and our server had great hospitality. And when I say... the portions here are GENEROUS - believe me! I couldn't believe how much food you get for your order, and the best part is, every bite hit. I decided to veer out of what I typically get for breakfast and did a lil sweet and savory moment and got the stuffed French toast with a sweet cream cheese filling and strawberry topping, and it came with 2 eggs of your choice, potato of choice, and either bacon or sausage. Bacon had the perfect amount of crisp, I asked for my hash browns extra crispy and they hit it on the nose. My partner got a bacon cheese burger. Bun was toasted, patty was flavorful, bacon was bussin, and he said they don't seem to skimp out at all on the fries! Price was very very reasonable for the portions, about $45 for this- my partner is from the Bay Area and so he's used to this quality of food and portions to be $$$$$$ and he even said this was such a deal! Family friendly place for sure, employees are super attentive, and left satisfied with the meal and service. If you're in town, or even passing through, this is the place to check out for breakfast.

I stood patiently, fully understanding how busy the restaurant was. However, as I waited, the hostess continued to call up other guests (four separate times) without any acknowledgment of my presence. We even made eye contact more than once, yet there was no greeting, smile, or indication that she noticed I was waiting. This happened with two different hostesses. Eventually, my fiancé stepped forward near the register, but the hostess avoided eye contact entirely, staring at the screen instead. It wasn't until I finally spoke up and said I was there for a pickup that she acknowledged us -- and suddenly seemed to notice the 6'2" man standing right in front of her. Fifteen minutes went by before I received my food, and I had to initiate the interaction myself. I was not greeted, not engaged, and my food l, which had been ready for some time; was soggy by the time I got it. The ranch inside was even warm from sitting too long. This was my fiancé's first time at this establishment, and unfortunately, he's now hesitant to return if this is the tone and level of service to expect. I understand being busy, truly. But making direct eye contact with a customer and choosing not to acknowledge them, not even with a simple "Hi, we'll be right with you," is disappointing and leaves a poor impression. Overall, the experience was less than stellar. I would have appreciated better communication and fresher food, but hopefully this feedback helps improve future service for others.

The chilaquiles weren't spicy more like chips with salsa and ended up being pretty bland with light salsa. However, the country potatoes were really good and definitely a highlight. The pigs in a blanket were also tasty, and the hashbrowns were perfectly browned. The kids enjoyed their meals, although the corn dog was a little overcooked on the outside and slightly undercooked on the inside. Service was great, our waitress was attentive and kind throughout our visit. The only other downside was the coffee, which tasted a bit watered down or just not very strong. Overall, it was a good experience, and I'd come back to try different items.

The cream on the brioche French toast was super thick and very good vanilla flavor. It was crispy, buttery, salty perfection. Ohhh how it hit the spot.
