Julie greeted us quickly from around a corner. She was filling coffee, bussing tables, taking orders.. Julie was handling it all! Order banana caramel brioche French toast breakfast with two eggs over medium, sausage and bacon. Build your own with ham, sourdough grilled with butter, hash extra crispy, eggs over easy.. add on hash browns extra crispy and ham. The cream on the brioche French toast was super thick and very good vanilla flavor. It was crispy, buttery, salty perfection. Ohhh how it hit the spot. The bananas were even a very nice firm texture!! The cook nailed it, again! Julie is a veryyyyyyy hard worker!! My friend and I shared the super slam and it was enough for both of us. I was craving pancakes bad and I'm glad I waited for Dennys pancakes. They were delicious, fluffy and worth waiting for. Our waitress was friendly, very attentive to our needs and customer service oriented. This Dennys is right off highway 99 going towards Yosemite before Madera. I would recommend my friends and family. You can only eat inside and a casual atmosphere. There is also a Pilot Travel Center, gas station, Wendy's, Subway, and hotel. read more

Wife and I were driving home along the 99 early on a Sunday morning and wanted a sit-down breakfast. Saw the sign for Dennys and decided to give the roadside icon a try after years of not stepping inside one. The waitress (Amy) was great. She took our custom order which could have easily been confusing and when the food arrived, everything was exactly as we requested. Food arrived hot and remarkably was quite good. No issues with wait times or service. The prices for the food are great comparatively. If I had to nit pick anything, I would say the place could use a refresh or some TLC on the decor and offer fresh squeezed juice (we are in the middle of California) instead of the hotel juice machine stuff. Packed. Being packed wasn't the problem I don't mind waiting, but how rude the waitresses are. One walked around the tables as people were eating came by were people were waiting and ran inside the kitchen as to not sit people waiting. I thought that was really rude especially with the amount of tables open. Ok, my daughter and I ordered 3 breakfast slams, waited a whole hour because they only had (1) cook. I was told that after the hour wait. I was told Denny's did not want to pay for service outside of regular repair hours? Wtf! Denny's a multi-million dollar company would rather to go customers wait 1 hr? I get up to lodge my complaint the mgr. comes over and says " did they tell us about the 45 min wait"? No they didn't I would have went down the freeway to another one. I've been going to Denny's for over 50 years and my recent visit is by far, the worst experience. My wife and I due to an unfortunate circumstance had breakfast at this location at 4:30am, we were the only patrons there. The person in charge was polite but completely incompetent, he preferred to try and solve an upset between two prostitutes instead of his job. Promised fresh coffee, didn't happen. We ordered Eggs Benedict, no hollandaise sauce so we changed to a different breakfast. Eggs were undercooked, the ham, sausage, and bacon were from the previous day. No butter on the cold muffins and it took forever to be served. The hash browns were the only positive. Paid the bill and got out of there as fast as possible and was even following across the parking lot to our RV by a different employee of Denny's. NEVER AGAIN!!!! read more

So I love Denny's but the location on Ave 18 1/2 is just a hard pass for me from now on. While the hostess and waitress was nice enough, the food takes forever. Food was a long time coming, cold eggs, bacon and the biscuit could be used by the S J Sharks, the service was slow at best, the restaurant dining area could use some major cleaning inside and the windows are filthy, their was no real ambience to speak of. First off the one benefit stars is for the previous experience i had. My last experience was ridiculous. My sister and I wanted food late night & you have people working here but cannot manage to seat people timely. There is no way anyone should be waiting 10 minutes to be seated with four people dining in. They both were rude & insisted on helping the people checking out instead of the us, which as soon as they walked up, they were helped. When the other waiter stated to help us first as its been 10 plus minutes. I mean it is dennys. Maybe it doesn't matter to them, but the experience this time was horrible. & I don't care about driving to Fresno from now on. This place can be understaffed and the food can be a hit or miss. I would recommend to only get food items that are hard to mess up. Stick with eggs,bacon,sausage, pancakes, burgers, fries... those type of items. Don't get any of the skillets as I got one today and it disappointed. Ambiance is normal as any other Dennys. Dennys is what it is, and I personally don't ever want that to change. But, a few things have changed since the pandemic began. Such as: the menu, hours & the overall service. The menu is more fried foods and less options but still pretty good. Love going to Denny's! Especially on a road it's the go to place for the entire family but NOT this location! The service was good but the food was horrible!!! Everything that had to be deep fried you had a burnt oil taste as if they hadn't changed the oil and we got mashed potatoes that had spoiled and where sour and old gravy. The marinara sauce for the cheese sticks was definitely not fresh either. If your looking for a place with fresh food this is NOT the place, you can definitely tell they are slow and the food sits for a long time. Went in there and spent 50$ on a meal for me and my buddy. Was served the absolute worst chicken tenders I have ever had. Could've went to McDonalds and got chicken tenders for half the price. When I told the waitress about this she claimed "a lot of people say tthat" and offered me mozzarella sticks to make up for the garbage chicken tenders. She couldn't bother to give me a discount and when I went to pay the other employee told me that they don't clean their fryer.... absolutely disgusting and terrible service. First I had to wait for the hostess to quit joking around with one of the other employees before I was noticed. We were really hungry and this seemed like the best choice. However we were very disappointed. The seats were dirty and table was all wet. The service was so slow. We got our salads but our ranch was given to us more than 5 minutes later. I got my skillet meal but my bread was given to me 5 minutes later. The place was only half full and they still had people wait a few minutes to be seated. It seems that they are understaffed. The waiter was running around but everything took so long. The bathrooms were dirty and only one stall had toilet paper. The other 3 had none. The skillet was good and we like their ranch dressing. I ate here passing through Madera. Only thing was I had awful stomach issues for the 24 hours to follow. This was my first time eating at a Denny's as I'm from Australian and don't seem to have them there. First impressions were quite good. The waitresses were friendly and swift with their table service which is always good to see. Very prompt refilling our sodas. I loved the look of the menu. That cute style with the diagrams of a few select menu items on each page. Very helping with deciding. I ordered the cheeseburger with avocado. Looked absolutely amazing on the menu!! My partner ordered the bourbon chicken skillet, and we also ordered a nachos to share. Only downfall was the nachos never arrived!! Even after the waitress confirmed. A little disappointing. My burger was quite amazing. It was huge!! I could hardly eat it. At times I used a knife and fork. But it was still delicious. Following this and within maybe an hour or so I started to have strange stomach behaviours. At first it felt like severe bloating and lots of discomfort, to the point where I really wanted some sort of instant cleanse to try help. Following this lead to my stomach making heaps of gurgles and growling sounds, along with general stomach aches. I went to bed and delt with it. By the next day I had lost all my appetites, felt really unenergised, and my stomach felt sensitive .... as in the thought of digesting something may lead to it coming straight back up. Now I'm not sure what caused these symptoms to occur, but I must say I've always had a great stomach when it comes to all sorts of foods. Denny's is always the go to for my wife and I since we are always on the road and we always enjoy it. However this particular one was not enjoyable at all. My omelette was extremely overcooked, it was like a deep fried egg. I always get my hash browns loaded with cheese, gravy, and onion and they tasted like propane. My wife asked for over medium eggs and of course when it came to the table they were well overcooked in the center. It seems to me like the chef in the back is just cooking everything on high heat to crank the meals out faster. read more
