If you ever need to stop and stretch your legs on that long road trip from the Bay Area to Southern California, make this your stop. Arrive hungry and ready to have the best steak or prime rib cut of your life. The decor is rustic ranch. They have a fine dining restaurant, but sometimes when we go if we are dressed too comfy on the ride, we will eat in the bar. Sometimes my husband prefers this so he can watch a game on their big screens. We always have a great meal, and are never rushed. Staff is very kind and friendly. The ambiance is relaxing and very pleasant. We go once or twice a year. Sometimes more. If we end up there at a busy time of day and need to wait for a table, their gift shop is wonderful. I drove several hours and was craving a great steak, so I decided to give Harris Steakhouse a try. What a massive disappointment. I ordered their prime ribeye, expecting a high-quality cut with a proper sear. Instead, it looked and tasted like a boiled steak. There was zero crust or flavor, and it wasn't tender at all--it was tough and a chore to eat. For a place that calls itself a steakhouse, serving a prime cut this poorly executed is unacceptable. A must stop anytime I'm on my way home from Southern California. This place is off the I-5. I've been here a few times, always on weekends, but this was the first time I came on a weekday. It's also the first time I did not have to wait for a table to be available! I believe my waitresses name was Kristina who was great. Great service! I ordered the 14 oz ribeye with a loaded baked potato and a Cesar salad to start. The steak was cooked perfectly however the baked potato was a little cold as if it was made before the steak was ready, but this was a first and I came for the steak anyways! The place was pretty quiet and I sat in the bar area, so that was interesting. Overall this place is always a must stop for me and tastes so good! It is always great to stop here on a road trip up - or down - I-5. The Ranch Kitchen restaurant (one of several here, and the casual one) is the focus of this review, although I also grabbed some steaks from the store to take home. I have a couple of go-tos here: the battered green beans with chipotle dipping sauce and the chopped wedge salad (also available in a traditional, not-chopped style). The salad was fresh and with blue cheese - extra on the side. Both are great, and came quickly, with a side of a cheddar cheese roll and lots of whipped butter. The only thing that might be better is the house-made biscuits, served with some of the breakfasts. Both are delicious! My server, Angelina, was great. The burger was pretty good overall: the patty came medium rare, leaning toward rare, with a nice char on it. Review for the resort and the restaurant incoming! Stayed with the family for a night on our way to Southern California as we were in need of respite after crushing Bay Area traffic. The room was very clean, and solidly appointed for the price (under $200 with AAA discount). In the morning we took a swim in their gorgeous swimming pool. It was an early morning because he had to get back on the road. But, if I were to linger it would be right next to that pool or that awesome horse shoe bar across the lot at the restaurant. Breakfast was awesome. I had the country fried steak and eggs. It was a very tender piece of tenderized steak and the gravy was lights out $29.95. Kids had the "little cowpoke" which was a pancake, bacon slice and an egg for $8.95. The pancake was tasty and the bacon was a large cut (I had to get my Dad tax in). Only downside was the avocado toast (but who would order that at a roadside cow restaurant?) My wife would! HA! It was $18.95 and she felt like she was being punished as it was just a single slice of bread with avocado and two poached eggs. She was really hoping for a larger portion for the price. Overall, it was a really solid 5/5 experience. We left something in the room accidentally and the front desk called us before we even noticed. They said they'd take care of it and we will cruise by on the way home to grab it. Really awesome customer service. For a resort in the middle of nowhere I get no real complaints. I mean it smells like poop outside but there's like a million head of cattle down the road so that makes sense. Also, no foul smells in the hotel or restaurant. We pass through Coalinga about 4 times per year and never pass Harris Ranch by. While we have stayed at the resort and eaten in the restaurant, we mostly stop by on our way through. We love the country store for there curios and munchies. I also usually buy some of that great Harris Ranch beef. They pack it is ice so it easily makes the 10 hour trip home from there, Whether stopping for a quick shopping trip in their country store, some great food in the A+ restaurant, or grabbing a brisket sandwich at the general store next door. Harris Ranch has it all! They also have clean restrooms an charging stations. Break the monotony, Harris Ranch is a must stop on your long road trip down I-5! read more

We have been to HR RV Park twice now. Once for an overnight and once for a weekend stay. Both visits were great! The cookies at check-in are awesome. The bathrooms are some of the best and cleanest you'll ever see in an RV park and the FHU, level, pull through spaces are wide and long. The WiFi is good enough for streaming. There are 2 dog parks and a set of pickleball courts. Access to the gym is included with your stay. We enjoyed the huge heated pool, the pool bar and two of the restaurants. There is free coffee in the hotel lobby offered to all RV guests every morning and it is very good. They also have tea for the non-coffee drinkers. I would recommend Harris Ranch Resort RV Park to others and we will be coming back, since the entire family loves the pool and the food. read more

The hostess greeted us warmly. We enjoyed the clean Ranch style decor, fascinating Ranch Antiquities, confortable seating, great menu and fantastic service! We were convinced that our server loved his job, took our orders for four including the kids meal and remembered every detail requested. Hubby and i split a burger meal and they were so accommodating. Gave us everything we wanted and more. The burgers were top grade beef, on fresh hot buns with all the accouterments. And those HorseShoe fries were as good as we've ever had, crispy outside and soft inside, served aplenty in individual baskets. The kids meal was a winner for our particular 12 year old "Really Good TriTip" loaded with fresh vegetables, that we helped to polish off. Portions were overall generous and a great price. Harris Ranch is a favorite. We stop every time we are on a road trip on I5 to eat a meal. Any dish with beef is excellent. A lunch favorite is the steak salad. The Loaded omelet is huge and tasty. The servers are friendly and on point. We stayed at the hotel for the first time and we were impressed. Check-in was smooth with great service. The fresh baked cookies were unexpected and delicious. The rooms are huge compared to the average hotel room. There are two separate sinks with great counter space. The shower is walk-in and no tub. The bathroom floors are marble like tile and the room is wood laminate. The bed is comfortable with both hard and soft pillows. The surprise furniture piece was a soft recliner. There is a lap pool for swimmers and three hot tubs on the property. The room price was the most reasonable of all the hotels on our trip with a much better experience. read more

Yesterday the four of us were returning from Palm Springs on a week long golf getaway. We stopped here for a late lunch. Ordered- * hubby had a Reuben sandwich with regular fries * I had the derby cheeseburger with sweet potato fries * sis & BIL shared a derby cheeseburger with sweet potato fries and a bowl of cream of mushroom soup Pros: * burgers cooked to order. We both ordered medium well burgers. Grilled onions * hubby said plenty of corned beef in his sandwich * sis & BIL cheeseburger split by the kitchen and had equal amounts of fries Cons: * $0.50 for grilled onions. Bermuda onions were barely grilled * $5.00 split order charge * my Arnold Palmer was very weak. Hardly tasted any lemonade or iced tea. * switched to a Pepsi. Too much carbonation since fountain drink. * food was lukewarm as it was a very chilly day out and drafty in the restaurant. From the kitchen to our table affected the food temperature. * service was spotty. Hubby had to request coffee refill. I only came to Harris Ranch Resort to visit its meat counter which has a great selection of beef. Prices were not too bad, service is great and friendly at their meat/bakery market. Specialty coffee is available there too! From what I can see, they have three places offering hot food, a cafe, a BBQ near their gas station, and a fine dining area. **October 2025: Sunday Afternoon Visit** I've done a handful of roadtrips and have always been curious about the steaks at Harris Ranch. This past weekend my friend and I decided to mark it off my bucket list. I saw two restaurants on the resort: one for everyone, and one exclusively for adults. I suspect that they both offer the same things, but for the sake of time we did the for everyone dining option as the adults only had a longer wait. My friend and I were seated immediately, and the interior of the restaurant had a lot of cowboy flair. I ordered a filet mignon medium rare with mashed potatoes and a clam chowder. The clam chowder was delicious, though served in a very small cup. The steak itself had a nice char which indicates that it's heated up on a really high temperature. The meat itself was okay, I've had more tender filet mignon, but it was fine. Overall, it's okay. Glad I checked it off my list though! read more

Service wise: pretty quick, waiter came around to ask how was food while they attended to several tables Ambiance: the wooden sitting chair way too small and easy to hurt the shoulder of the knee caps!!! Very disappointing experience. From the moment the bartender saw that we had a 3-year-old child with us, her attitude completely changed. She was rude, dismissive, and made us feel unwelcome. She also gave us inconsistent information about the restaurant's hours, which felt misleading. First, she told us to wait 30 minutes, then it became an hour, then an hour and a half. After that, she said it would only be another 20 minutes. The constantly changing wait times and poor attitude made the experience very frustrating. We tried the filet steak and eggs and came with biscuits. Also ordered a bagel and cream cheese. Also tried the berry boost juice and root beer float. This is a rather late review but I think it's worth sharing anyway. We stopped by on our way to LA. This was my second time here and this time we went to the Harris BBQ. The line was long but moved fast. I was with a company of 3 and we all enjoyed our food. We ordered Santa Maria classic BBQ tri-tip, salads and smoked meats on the side. Their beef tip salad was an absolute winner! I am not a fan of beef meat but this was an exception for me. I think because the beef was crispy, it came as a whole different experience for me. We always have stopped at Harris Ranch for breakfast on our drive up north. The first disappointment was, we had to wait 20 minutes to be seated, and it was 10 o'clock in the morning. It wasn't busy. Service was wonderful once seated, and the ambiance was beautiful. But the menu has been changed. No more benedicts or grain pancakes. Different biscuits. We were disappointed with the biscuits and our omelets were dry with a slap cheese on top. The fruit bowl was yummy and the coffee was good. Not sure if we will be back. I love Harris Ranch. A big part of it is the ambiance. It's a fun stop for dinner on a road trip. During the Christmas season it's quite magical and pretty. The service is usually very good. There's a bar in addition to the steakhouse, which looks fun. It has a different menu than the steakhouse, and I haven't tried it yet. There's a nice gift shop, and you can also buy steaks and seasoning to take home and cook as well. The last time I was there I decided to go for the Wagyu steak which was over $100. It was supposed to be incredibly tender and I wanted to try it. I ordered it medium rare. It came out medium well and it was really not that great. They redid it for me, but it came out rare. It was ok but not amazing. This was the only time that I was disappointed at Harris Ranch. The NY Strip has always been really good (and less expensive). I will definitely return, despite this last visit having the bummer steak experience. I won't order the Wagyu. In addition to the restaurant, they also have another spot by the gas station which serves BBQ. Harris Ranch may not be the TOP steakhouse around, but it's got a nice warm family atmosphere, very solid food, and a classy vibe in the main dining room. read more

Had a really nice stay here. The resort is beautiful and relaxing, just what I needed. First, a big THANK YOU to Christian (Chris) for his wonderful customer service. He helped us get to our room and get settled. He also provided great service in the pool area. Now to the bad part. Room service was awful! I ordered a Chinese chicken salad, but it didn't come with the chicken. That should've been our first clue. The next morning my friend and I ordered Denver omelettes. I wanted the traditional omelette with ham and she wanted bacon. We had to send her omelette back twice. Finally we asked are the using Canadian bacon. They said no and they would bring another omelette. Well we never received it. No call no show! Totally unacceptable! Finally we went to the restaurant and to our chagrin they had the BEST bacon! We have eaten at the sit down restaurants & the bbq express many times over the last few decades and hopefully many more. They have never disappoint. The food has been consistently good. HRR is a good spot to stop & take a breather between here and SoCal besides the Tejon Ranch Outlets. The table service in the restaurant can sometimes be touch & go as in one could feel rushed but the staff are not unfriendly, they do not mean to as there are demanding and rude customers for every complaint of underperforming staff. I feel the staff here are trained to be mindful that diners are generally anxious, tired, agitated, confused and hungry motorists/tourists/travelers so they are as friendly and efficient as possible. Harris Ranch beef is known all over CA, heck, I see their products at my local Safeway or is it Lucky, not sure. read more

My family and I have been coming to this restaurant since we were little! Every time we go to SoCal we always stop here! The waitstaff and hosts are always so kind and welcoming! We usually opt in for their casual dining since we're in our comfier clothes or pjs even. The menu is perfect, has a little bit of everything! The food is so fresh and their complimentary bread is absolutely delicious! Everything is clean and well kept, bathrooms are super clean and the floors as well. It's always fun eating here because after you can walk around their gift shop and even purchase the wines they offer and meat to take home!! They even have desserts and pastries available too along with other cute gifts. Due to it being the Christmas holiday season, it's decorated so cute inside with Christmas trees, ornaments and garland everywhere. It's adorable! We stopped by on a Sunday afternoon with our family while hauling our travel trailer, planning to enjoy some coffee, pastries, and a quick restroom break. Since we were towing, I parked along the side of the restaurant to give myself enough room to maneuver safely. We had been parked for maybe three minutes when a silver security vehicle pulled up. A young man stepped out and asked if we were planning to sleep there for the night -- this was around 3pm. I told him we were just stopping for a short break. Without another word, he got back in his car and drove off. I understand that Harris Ranch now has an RV park and likely wants to prevent people from staying on the property without paying. That makes sense. However, there's definitely a better way to approach customers or potential customers. A simple, friendly explanation like, "Just so you know, we have a full hookup RV park if you're interested in staying overnight. Here are the rates," would have gone a long way. Instead, it felt like we were being assumed guilty of something before even stepping inside. We've stopped here many times in the past and have always had incredible experiences. As usual, the pastries and coffee were delicious. The interaction with security just felt a bit awkward and unnecessary. read more
