A great little pit stop on the drive up to the bay. The atmosphere was welcoming, though we were a bit disappointed that they had run out of horseradish by the time we arrived. Pro tip: order online about an hour in advance or be prepared for a longer line during peak times Highlights: * Brisket (9/10) - Exceptionally tender, juicy, and full of flavor. Easily the standout dish!! * Pork ribs (8/10) - Very well-seasoned with a rich, pork-forward flavor. They didn't even need sauce, though a few bites were slightly dry * Coleslaw (7/10) - Good flavor, but noticeably watery Could be improved: * Tri tip (5/10) - Unfortunately a bit dry and lacking in flavor * Burnt ends (2/10) - Overcooked to the point of being chewy and tough Overall, it's a worthwhile stop especially for the brisket and ribs

Came here to charge the car on the way to LA. We didn't want to stay long so we went to Harris BBQ instead of the Harris Ranch restaurant. Husband ordered brisket, beef tips, tri-tip, and pulled pork, it came with mac & cheese, house, slaw, cornbread rice pilaf, and mashed potatoes. The food was good however I wish they had indoor seating. Not sure how that would work out though. I'm sure they would get crowded really fast. They had outdoor seating, but there are also a ton of flies that are hovering and flying trying to also land on your food as you're eating. I was thinking they should install one of those little fans in the center of the table that people have at picnics. Hard to eat and enjoy your food when you have flies trying to get it. Food was delicious. Would come back again, but maybe as a grab and go. Inside also has a small market where you can buy drinks, chips, or candy.

Every time we drive to south California. We have to stope to eat here. Best Tri tip salad ever, and best sandwiches. Service is very fast and the employees are very friendly. The ambience is welcoming. The depende on the time of the day sometimes it smells like cow's poop, but food is amazing

Brisket, Tri tip, Mac n cheese.

First review of 2026! On our way back we decided to finally check out Harris ranch bbq. Wasn't sure how great it was going to be due to being connected with a shell station ... don't let that deter you! The brisket was by far one of the best I've had in the Bay Area. This is the closest I've gotten to some of these "competition" bbq meats. The brisket was falling apart while picking it up, juicy and very well seasoned. Mac n cheese.. bomb. Was it anything super special? No but it was still a solid Mac n chee. Tri tip was good but needed a little more salt/pepper. The hot bbq and original bbq sauce helped with that though. Overall, great! Will make this spot a regular place when we go to and back from Disneyland.

A clever and fast alternative to the full dine in Harris Ranch restaurant. Order the brisket and cheese-it's a must try. There are tons of soup, salad, and chicken options too! This bbq stand is located across the street from Harris Ranch and serves as a fully equipped gas station/convenience store. There is a covered patio with lots of seating too! Travel tip: mobile order or phone your order ahead to beat the lines!

Christine W.

I always order ahead online and avoid the lines. I would put your pick up time 15 mins earlier as they typically run late. It's just that busy! Great BBq spot I def recommend stopping to break up your drive on the 5. There are 2 sets of restrooms on this side of Harris'.

We stopped here on our way home from LA as we always do, we usually go inside to the restaurant but decided to try this BBQ spot instead. It is close to the Tesla charges and inside the shell station. I had the BBQ brisket and cheddar sandwich and the jalapeño cornbread. My sandwich was so good that I went back in to buy some of the brisket to take home. My cornbread was also good. The rest of my party had pulled pork sandwiches and they said those were good too. Service was quick and there wasn't too much of a line. It was cold out and the only seating is outdoors, the seating out in the back had heaters so that kept us pretty warm. I'll definitely stop again the next time we come this way.

Lots of Tesla Superchargers (80) conveniently located here!

This place is always packed whenever we make a stop for the only reason of supercharging our Tesla vehicle. There are over 80 stalls available in two spots, one directly in front of the convenience store, and one that is just a two minute walk fully covered underneath solar roof panels. The actual restaurant is separate from the convenience store that includes the express barbecue restaurant. The restrooms attached to this building are always kept rather clean and conveniently located. There really are not many other food options unless you go over the freeway overpass. Today we opted for a quick bite to eat during the lunch hour. The crowd quickly grew from the time we arrived to the time we placed our order. Prices are not particularly cheap given it basically has a monopoly for anyone stopping by. With just a cheddar and brisket sandwich paired with a side of mashed potatoes and a side of pulled pork, it ran us nearly $30! The food isn't amazing, however, if you are in for a barbecue fix, it is fairly good. I didn't particularly enjoy my sides of mashed potatoes and pulled pork because it was a bit more peppery than I would have preferred. Everything is packed in a to-go bag, and you may choose to dine at one of the patio tables and chairs, which is tolerable in the non- summer months when the sun is not scorching hot. When I come back again, probably not. Unless I'm really in need of food in the moment.

Sadly I have no pictures of the food but I was pleasantly surprised to pull off the highway to charge and find this place. I went with pulled pork, some briskets and even some tri-tip. This was just on the side to get some quick protein in. They were both honestly pretty great and so were the sauces they came with. Very nice little place to take a little break and relax on a road trip. Wild to see so many negative reviews but I guess this place isn't for people who think "black pepper is too spicy." I will say when I went it was totally dead so there was no wait at all for food. Next time I'm through I'll grab pictures of the food as well, but the bathrooms and the store are both very nice to go along with it. Give it a try, not sure what's up

I wish I lived closer!! My first time stopping by on my way to LA. I have heard ALL about this place and have only heard great things! We arrived at a gas station looking place (I expected a restaurant so I was a little thrown off) . I ordered the tri tip sandwich, some mac and cheese, jalapeño corn bread, a side of brisket and a side of extra tri tip. Luckily they had some heated seats outside as it was freezing outside and there was no inside seating. The mac and cheese was so creamy delicious first off! Wow delicious! My tri tip sandwich was so tender and delicious which sided perfectly with some spicy bbq sauce!! The brisket was great and the corn bread was decent. I left feeling wayyyyy too full ! I definitely wish they had indoor seating but don't get me wrong I will happily stop by any chance I get and may even do a road trip just to eat here again!

Very Upset. I waited 55 minutes for my two sandwiches today!!!!! And wrong order with missing items!!! So, I've always wanted to try Harris BBQ (in addition to their restaurants which I've tried many times), as I wanted NOT to take a long lunch today. However, I ended up spending longer wait time, wrong order (missing items). I didn't know that Harris BBQ gets so busy. So, I arrived at ~12:30 and there was a long line... anyway, I knew that we can order online and placed my online order at 12:53 (see receipt), promised a 30-minutes wait time... okay, there ARE a lot of people... so I thought it reasonable to wait 30-minutes and pickup at 1:23 even though it's too long for my taste..... anyway, I waited... waited... and 1:23 came and gone. I tried to ask the pickup person but the lady was just too busy to give me any attention. Instead of listening to me on what I had to say - she just simply assumed that I'm trying to rush her for my order and just kind of brushed me off. Finally, the big crowd appeared to have slowed and it is now 1:42. I finally got a chance to show her the receipt and the now 20-mins past due pick up time and she quickly said ... ok, 5 minutes. So by 1:48, I FINALLY got my order. They clearly just forgot my order. Now having been at Harris BBQ for nearly 1.5 hours of what I thought would be a quick grab n go sandwich run, we quickly grabbed the bag and rushed to the car to get back in the road. Until ... 5 mins later, I realized that my rice and beans were missing from the order. VERY UPSET. We turned the car around and went back to pick them up. Yes sure, I could have let them go but that's not the point. * 55-MINS for two sandwiches. * Missing items from Order. * No apology for the late order, nothing. It was just here - and that's it!! * Did not double check order 1-Star for the Food. The Santa Maria Tri-Tip sandwiches were excellent!!

1LB Brisket
Timothy Spencer T.

TLDR: It's good BBQ at a famous stop in the middle of California. It's recommended to order online, since the lines and wait can get pretty crazy, but I think it's worth a try. 1lb Brisket: It's a bit on the dry side when eating it by itself. You get the salty corned beef flavor and the burnt crust, which is a popular feature in many BBQ joints. The sauces help salvage the issue, but you end up tasting the sauce instead of the hard work done on the meat. Half Rack Ribs: You get six bones, and I can confidently say that it's one of the better ribs that I've had in California. It's a good mix of sweet and salty, the meat is falling off the bone, and the chew is quite tender. I am a fan of the portions of these ribs, and I definitely see myself getting this again. Service: We ordered online, so it's really just a matter of arriving after your set pickup time. The heavy foot traffic makes things a bit hectic in the pickup point, but it's not a big deal. Ambiance: The location shares a space with a convenience store, so you only order inside then eat outside. The dining area has a very ranch feel, and has some airsprays to help cool the diners, since the area can get VERY hot.

Not your average place to stop at... BUTTTTTT, when you need to nibble on something before getting to your destination you make it work right?!! Available parking. Strong ac breeze on the inside and not as busy. Interior is dedicated to western, deep browns and creams and barn style crown moldings and real spider webs and dust throughput. Pricy for the amount they give you. Waitress was kind, quick and check on us twice. I had the mini sliders (3) with slaw and pickle on top. The sliders were dry, pickle did not pair well and the slow was probably (4) slithers if I was technical. Have your toothbrush, floss or toothpicks on standby as the first bite went between my teeth The pastries prior to entering the restaurant seem to be reasonably priced.. they appeared to be sitting for some time and I did not want to chance it! Just check it out if you're in the area.

I am sorry but the meat is not Halal. There is Halal meat at the main restaurant but you need to call 24 hours in advance to make sure they have what you are wanting.

I have always stopped at Harris Ranch BBQ on my monthly drive between SF and LA. With the Covid Virus, that has been stopped but I will be making the drive at the end of May. Is the BBQ open? Have they started to wear masks? Are bathrooms open?

The Express is open 9-8 pm. We are wearing face masks and the bathrooms are open. Hope to see you soon.
