Pickle jars. They make their own pickles in house!

My dad and I had a short trip to Coalinga and asked a local where to eat. She enthusiastically recommended the salty pickle. We got parking directly in front of the cafe and went inside. We were greeted immediately and were able to look at the menu board and make our choices. I ordered the teriyaki burger and the waffle style sweet potato fries with chipotle ranch. I also got the raspberry lemonade. The food came quickly and was presented on aluminum trays which really added to the ambience. The fries were amazing. They had a thin, crisp coating and were a perfect blend of crunchy and soft. The chipotle ranch was spicy with a delicious smoky aftertaste. The burger was absolute perfection. Cooked well, juicy and flavorful. There was the sweet from the teriyaki sauce and pineapple, savory from the burger and onion and I asked for a substitution and they readily obliged. The only thing I wasn't really fond of was the raspberry lemonade. It wasn't really tart or sweet and tasted more like a fruit tea. It wasn't bad, but it lacked the sweet and sour of a true lemonade. Overall I really enjoyed my visit. The food was so good, and I enjoyed just sitting down and chatting with my dad after a long drive! If I ever come back to Coalinga I will be sure to stop by again!

If you have the time, come here instead of the typical stops like harris ranch or bravo farms. A slow paced chill restaurant in a slow paced little town, a little detour but great food! You'll be met by friendly staff and we saw quite a few locals eat here too. Chicken panini was ok, old boy Bleu burger flavor is great but definitely on the heavier side taste-wise. Mint cucumber lemonade was very concentrated in flavor and refreshing in hot weather. Best was the smoked beef dip, super smokey and had A LOT of meat. Au jus wasn't too salty either. On the side you're given the option of fries or fruit. Yes yes fruit is healthier but I'm willing to normally avoid fries to indulge in theirs! Lightly battered and crispy, not crunchy/tough coating like fast food and even some restaurants. And of course the pickle! One bite and we could tell it was homemade, not overly salty or sour but lightly and perfectly savory.

Quiet, out-of-the-way place in a quiet out-of-the-way town, but well worth the visit. We stopped for lunch on our road trip and ordered the Beef Dip sandwiches. Fries were well-seasoned, sandwich rolls were soft, and the beef wasn't just enough to be hearty but not heavy. And despite the name of the restaurant, nothing was overly salty -- not even the pickle. If I didn't fear the dreaded food coma while driving, I would have gladly indulged in one of their milkshakes.

We stopped through on a I-5 road trip. It's about a 15 minute drive from the interstate into Coalinga, but it's worth it. We arrived for a late lunch so it wasn't too busy. The food was great: bacon avocado burger and a fried chicken sandwich. The burger had lots of creamy guac on it. Fries were hot and crispy. One of the owners was helping us and was super welcoming. I was happy to eat at a local spot rather than the typical fast food on the freeway.

My husband never orders chicken out, but on the recommendation of our waiter, he ordered it and was delighted. Best chicken in a restaurant ever. We also had the delicious bacon-wrapped dates and two wonderful salads -- the burrata and the pear and pecan. My main was the mushrooms and scallops pasta. SO good. The waiter recommended a local Chardonnay, so nice that I bought 2 bottles before leaving town. The owner-chef also spent about 15 minutes chatting with us as we were one of the last diners. It was one of my best birthday dinners ever! We will go back to Paso Robles just to dine here.

Of note, we were never given an option for indoor seating when making our reservation nor when we were seated. After ordering, we received our starter (shishito peppers) within 10 minutes. However once we finished the starter we waited an additional 30-40 minutes for our entrees. There was no communication from the wait staff at all, no refills on water, nothing. In fact in the patio dining area I saw three plates of food (including our peppers) delivered to tables in the hour we had been sitting there. Interestingly the wait staff all seemed very busy and moved around the restaurant but not much appeared to get done. Having worked in hospitality previously I have a lot of empathy for the staff as they seemed to lack direction and management support. My husband ordered the mushroom and scallop pasta. It was okay. Overpriced, but was tasty. I ordered the chile relleno and steak. The chile relleno was filled with a large amount of corn that tasted freezer burnt. My steak was thin and grey and overcooked. It was nearly all grey inside with a couple spots of pink. It wasn't seasoned either. The sauces on the plate were good. Our server was polite and did take it off the menu. However, no manager ever came by to check on us or any other table on the patio in the time we were there. I had high hopes for this place based on the reviews. It was a real let down to have a lackluster food and service experience at "one of the nicest places" in Paso.

Good Grief !! Where do I start?! At the beginning, Jim…read more.. OK, so I'm in Hanford, California doing a favor for a friend after a long day working in Los Angeles then driving 3 hours! My options??? Grabbing some snacks at the hotel or taking the spectacular advice of April and Naesha at the front desk of the Fairfield Marriott, my hotel for the night. They also said that the Steak Bites were fantastic. After a quick shower, I took the 5 minute ride to the restaurant. Independent building, fairly nondescript but classy enough. Easy access with plenty of parking. You enter in to a dark, classy Italian restaurant. A large , open dining room straight ahead, and a small (but really cute) bar to the left. I chose eating at the bar, and I'm happy I did. Raquel, the Bartender took care of me with humor, seriousness, smiles, and incredible recommendations. Ordered a nice Zin and started perusing the menu. The nightly "specials" menu looked great, but the regular menu nailed me. Before I could even begin to make decisions, their bread arrived at the table with a small bowl of marinara sauce. Maybe the best I've had... EVER! Raquel was literally describing the recipe after I raved. Should have asked for a copy! Guess I knew then that I was about to be thrilled! I ordered some of the steak bites for the ladies at the hotel, then proceeded, knowing I was about to overeat AND take a feast back with me. Always a Caesar Salad as a starter, asking for it not to be overly saturated and they nailed it. Just a personal preference and this is massively nit picky, but just a hint more anchovy paste. Raquel then steered me to Shrimp Avocado Crostini as an appetizer. It truly left me speechless, and that's virtually impossible (just ask my kids). The perfectly toasted Crostini's, thinly sliced, a smear of the avocado, then a spoonful of heaven! I mean the warm shrimp goulash, salsa, soup... heck, whatever it was, was pure perfection. Limited myself to 3 pieces, about 9 bites, and only consumed about 1/3. For my main course I opted for a chicken dish as I often do. I chose the Spicy Chicken Chipotle with Penne Pasta, Blackened Chicken, bell peppers, edamame, mango... Now as I'm already achieving some pressure on my belt, all just have a couple bites. OOPS!!! Yup, it was THAT good! And it came out hot, as it should, a thing many restaurants miss on. I was confused after my first bite because it was unnaturally sublime! I devoured it!!! Just left enough to add it to the bounty traveling back to the hotel. Truly some of the very best pasta I've had anywhere. So now I'm stuffed and she comes over and says a naughty word, DESSERT! Crème Brûlée Cheesecake sound ok? Sure, I reply. Light, fluffy, not overly sweet, luscious caramel sauce... two perfect bites and into a to go package. The food, 10/10 The Service, 10/10 (Thanks Raquel!) The Atmosphere 9/10 Don't know if I will ever get the opportunity to return, but if I do it would be my honor to have a chance at trying more of the beautiful menu. Bon A-petite' Cheers

I was excited to try this restaurant since there aren't many upscale dining options in our area…read more The food was good and I enjoyed my meal, which is why I'm giving it a few stars. Unfortunately, the service was very slow. I sat in the bar area during happy hour and waited over an hour for my food. While I understand happy hour can be busy, the restaurant didn't appear overly crowded, so the wait felt excessive. Communication from the staff about the delay would have made the experience much better. The food quality was the highlight of my visit, but the long wait and slow service made the overall experience disappointing. I hope they can improve their timing because our community could really use a great local dining option.
