I stopped at Wayback Burgers on my drive back to Sacramento and decided to use my birthday reward for a free milkshake. Ordering was quick and easy through the self-service kiosk, and I was able to enter my rewards number without any issues. My shake was ready in about five minutes, making it a perfect quick stop before getting back on the road. The restaurant itself feels moderately updated and has a welcoming atmosphere. Inside was generally clean, although I did notice a few crumbs on some of the seats and spilled food around the top of the trash can that could have used a little attention. One of the biggest perks of this location is its convenience for EV drivers. It's located right next to a row of Rivian chargers and directly across from Tesla Superchargers, with outdoor picnic tables where you can relax while your vehicle charges. Overall, it was a good experience with friendly, efficient service and a delicious birthday treat. A little more attention to cleanliness would make this location even better, but I'd definitely consider stopping here again during future charging breaks. read more

I stopped by Wayback Burgers and tried a few things. The tater tots were really good--crispy and flavorful. I also ordered the chicken nuggets, which were a little greasy. There wasn't much meat inside, as they seemed to be more batter than chicken. The location is convenient since it's inside a gas station, which makes it an easy stop when you're on the go. Some of the tables were a little dirty, but it seemed like they had just gotten through a rush. The staff was somewhat friendly. Overall, it was an okay experience. I'd definitely come back to try the burgers next time. read more

Wish we pulled into McD's or SB instead but we thought the reviews on Yelp looked great. Huge disappointment, especially for the price! The pictures on the posters and kiosk are dramatized and look nothing like them. What you get is a super downsized burger with half melted cheese, half grilled onions, and some sides of fruit flies to set the mood. The bun is 90 percent of the meal. Keep driving! We will never be back. read more

If it weren't for Yelp, I'd probably be knee deep in the Los Banos In n Out line and scavenging for a table. Luckily I saw reviews for this tasty burger joint off Panoche Rd and they delivered! Clean inviting interior, easy to order kiosk, friendly staff, and fresh tasty burgers. It's also connected to a gas station/store and clean restrooms. We ordered 4 classic cheeseburgers (not too greasy fresh meat patties), a large chili cheese fries, regular fries, (fries were ok but not the star) and the brownie sundae & Cinnamon Toast Crunch milkshakes (super yummy indulgent treats!) It's similar to a Five Guys with the additional toppings you can add, but not as greasy. We enjoyed our meal and will remember it next time we are on the 5! read more

It's feels like they craft burgers here it doesn't feel like it's just number 30 your orders ready. They going take there times they going get it right. I really absolutely thought this would have been some mediocre burger overpriced and under flavored, but If I ain't tell you. That first bit got me right. You know how I knew it was good after I ate my first bit another guy was sitting there waiting for his burger and he smiled at me when he saw my face after that first bit. And we gave eachother the nod. I'm genuinely happy this isn't a close by spot cause I would be going to often. Before I leave let's talk shake this isn't you any other place type of let me just add milk to ice cream and give you that with a smile. I'm not a banana person but I had to trying there banana pudding milk shake and when I tell u I'd wish it was some sort of bottomless milk shake that didn't end I mean it. It was awesome. read more

The pictures alone would probably tell the tale, but if I may add a few words, Wayback Burgers was incredibly disappointing and I will be doing everything possible to avoid another stop at this roadside dining establishment. I opted for the Bourbon Bacon Burger, something I've seen and enjoyed variations of at other restaurants throughout the years. In all other cases the Bourbon is found in a BBQ sauce, however in this particular burger it is a bourbon mustard, meaning every bite of your burger will be drenched in a mustard that drowns out all other flavors. If you love mustard maybe give this a shot, if you are at all ambivalent, steer clear. The Bacon Cheese Fries were another unfortunate mess, absolutely covered not in freshly crumbled bacon but rather gristly and chewy bacon bits accompanied by a mild and lackluster cheese sauce that left me wishing I had just ordered normal fries. I would have preferred almost any fast-food chain to the food I received at Wayback Burgers, especially when you factor in their high pricing. Do yourself a favor and find somewhere else to eat. read more

Burgers tasted good - better quality than other fast food places. Fries were not great - no crisp but also tasted like actual potatoes. Shakes my kids had got good reviews. read more

Made a pit stop here around 2:00 PM for a quick lunch. Not very busy. You can order on their Kiosk or with staff. Compared to In&Out, I would say this place is decent, but I wouldn't come back. It is a bit overpriced. It's the best in this area though. The burger was a bit overdone and the sauce or bun isn't super memorable. However, it came out fresh and hot. $8 for a small vanilla shake hurt a bit. It tasted good but I've had better. Indoor seating only. Plenty of parking. Overall, it's good for what it is, but I'm guessing most people only go here because it's a convenient stopping area off the highway. read more

I was surprised to find this hidden gem off the freeway. Especially since it was combined next ti the gas station. Great tasting burgers that reminded me like a smash burger type. I enjoyed the fries, battered pickles, onion rings, and tatter tots. The service was a bit slow, seems they need another worker but overall I would recommend and comeback again. read more

My family and I were headed to Sacramento from Los Angeles and we wanted to stop for some burgers along the way course we turned to Google chat which let us to our options of the same old In-N-Out or Wayback burgers in Firebaugh. Both were freeway close but growing up in SoCal had In-N-Out 10,000 times being a fireball is the home of my favorite quarterback for the University of Wyoming, Cowboys Buffalo Bills Josh Allen It was Settled. The food was really amazing. Very tasty very fresh fresh hot well prepared. The tater tots were amazing. The burgers were amazing. My kids had shakes. They said were amazing. The food was served really quick. The atmosphere is nice. The dining room was very clean and nice. It's kind of weird that it's kind of attached to a gas station or something but no problems. I'll definitely wanna go back. It was a great meal very fresh. Very good flavorful tasty burgers, fries, and tots. read more

If you want to pay twice the price of in n out for not as good quality this is the place to go. The only thing going for it is the closest in n out is another 35/40 min away and all other option by it are worse. Classic burgers are $11-12. 5 people cost $100 and it was just so so. Ceasar salad with chicken was wilted lettuce and lots of croutons. Little chicken. Next time just plan better and go to the in n out. read more

It's ok. Chicken strips was advertised but it was not on the menu. This was disappointing.

I don't know if it was the hours. Maybe there are better cooks in another shift. But this food was bland and no flavor. Got the double with bacon and it was not good. The Buffalo chicken gave us heartburn. We go to the way back by Sacramento and those are great. Also my wife mentioned that she heard the microwave going when they were making her chicken sandwich. read more

Stopped by to get gas and lunch. Didn't want to do McDonald's, so this place was worth trying. Got the classic burger with the tater tots and drink meal deal. Cost was $19.21. It's a typical fast food eating area. Don't come here for the atmosphere. The service is slow despite number of customers here today. Glad they have airconditioning because today is 100 degrees. The burger was ok. Above your average fast-food burger, but definitely not premium for the price. Nothing special about the tater tots either. Time to get back on the road. read more

Was looking for food on our road trip and luckily we came across Wayback. The reviews were good so we had high hopes. Does not have the impossible patty anymore. Lots of flies when we went. The service was horrible.

This place is great! All made to order fresh! Fries were delicious and got nuggets and the cheeeeeesy. Both were excellent!

Best gas station burger I've had in a while. Does that make sense? We usually just stop at In-N-Out when we drive back and forth to Northern California, but the timing worked out better to stop here the last time we drove and I was pleasantly surprised. It's amazing how much stuff they have on the menu considering that (as far as I could tell) it's a one or two man operation working the register and the tiny grill that make up the "kitchen". One kid got a hot dog, one kid got chicken strips, the rest of us got burgers - everyone was happy. read more

What they warned would be a 25 min wait was only 12. Ordered the cod sandwich and buffalo chicken sandwich, which were both very good. I have to say for a roadside stop this place is great! It was my second visit and I was reminded about what I liked... Really tasty, freshly made burgers (I got a classic). We also got a side of tots. Can't go wrong here. They were efficient and friendly taking our order and getting it out. The dining area is plenty spacious if you choose to eat in and there are some tables outside too with Tesla chargers nearby if that's your thing. I'd happily go back! read more

I had a "Classic Burger" and a strawberry shake. The burger was very good. The shake was average. It was too sweet. I assume strawberry syrup was added. Too bad because a great shake with that burger would have been perfect. As it was, it's good and definitely worth a stop. Wayback Burgers is located adjacent to a gas station with a mini mart, so the ambiance is basically similar to a truck stop fast food restaurant. The service was a tad slow but not bad. read more

On our way to San Jose, we stopped by Wayback to grab a quick meal and OMG so happy we stopped there. This unassuming burger joint, next to a gas station (don't let scare you), makes one of the best cheeseburgers I've EVER had. My husband and son also were raving about how delicious the burgers were. The burger patties were juicy and made to order with fresh ingredients. The fries and onion rings are also really good. Wayback Burgers is way better than the nasty McDonalds across the street by far. If you're on the 5 fwy heading North you should try this place out. I know I'll be back! read more

Food was decent but not anything exciting. They served all of the food lukewarm. Service was subpar mediocre. I asked for hotter fries and the employees laughed. I don't think this is the best way to treat your patrons. I understand you are trying not to an area of travelers but it's still a food service place. Overall the environment was ok. It was clean and calm and felt safe. read more

We stopped at this rest stop for Electrify America where they have Tesla and even Rivian charging stations. This is the first time I walked in to a restaurant and didn't check reviews and was blown away how good it was. I even felt the need to tell other people coming in how good it was lol. The ingredients were so fresh, you could tell they made that burger to order and the romaine lettuce was perfect for the salad. Could have dialed back on the pepper on the grilled chicken a tad but we it was all very good we took home our leftovers and ate them all up. Fried pickles tasty and my daughter enjoyed her kids tenders also. Would def eat here again next time we go north! Super pleasant surprise for a chance stop. read more

Okay, this was a pit stop location while grabbing gas and boy, are we glad we stumbled upon this gem. We ordered the classic burger that reminds of a smash burger with two thin layers of patty and all the fixings. It was tasty and I was thoroughly impressed. Juicy, soft bun and immaculate flavor profile. I also tried their cinnamon toast crunch smoothie. Granted, way too sweet for my liking so that was a hard pass for me.
