Joe's Joe's Hobo Omelette (620 cals.), Country Red Potatoes (330 cals.) and Sourdough toast
Judi B.

This place is a themed diner that has diner vibes with a nostalgic flair. We were surprised, but appreciative, that there was no wait on a Sunday morning for breakfast seating. We unfortunately did have to wait some time before our server approached the table for our drink order, though by that time we had our food order ready despite never having eaten there for breakfast before. Drinks also took about 5 minutes or so to receive - it was then we realized that our server was waiting to bring out drinks once all tables in their section had ordered. So there was always a wait for drinks. Coffee came without creamers? Had to ask twice for creamers as it took a while (again due to stacking orders). Huckleberry lemonade was very unimpressive - tasted like flavored water that was neither huckleberry or lemonade. Ordered Joe's hobo omelet with red country potatoes and sourdough toast. Omelet is chuck full of ham, sausage, bacon, fresh spinach and cheese. Omelet was absolutely delicious and incredibly fresh. All ingredients delightfully sing in unison and were well cooked. Country red potatoes were perfectly seasoned and cooked; even the burnt onion pieces were delectable. Sourdough toast didn't taste like sourdough but was toasted well and slathered with butter, so my toast requirement was met. It's nice they offer a pancake side to this omelet, which my friend ordered but it did not come with the meal. Since we didn't see our server often we had to wait until mid-meal before we could ask for it and therefore, received. Check out is only at the front so a line gathers and often the manager has to split time between checking out and seating, which can delay both jobs. Just be mindful that patience may be needed. Service and forgetfulness impacted the overall score, not to mention that tasteless lemonade...but would visit again for breakfast.

The grits, I have to say were my favorite thing on the menu. Creamy, cheese, and straight up delicious! There honestly wasn't a bad thing on the table tonight! So, when my friend asked to go here for dinner tonight after we finished her hair, of course I said yes. It was a little before 6 when we came in. We actually made a reservation just in case but it was actually pretty chill. We sat inside by the windows. This location is honestly in the most perfect part of downtown. Looking over Main St, The Grove and 8th St is absolutely stunning. It was cloudy today but the sun peeked through at some points and it created such a beautiful, moody tone for dinner. I didn't catch our server's name but she was really sweet. My friend got a mimosa flight started. I was basic and got a diet coke. While drinks were being handled, we looked over the dinner menu. And everything looked great! It was also happy hour so getting a starter was a must. As much as I wanted the fried chicken again, I decided to go the with roasted chicken with the bacon green beans and the fried okra for dinner. My friend ordered some fried green tomatoes as a starter. I have never had fried green tomatoes before so I was excited to try them. My friend was not joking when she said the fried green tomatoes were banger. They were so good! Golden and crispy crusted green tomatoes on top of grits and a red pepper sauce. It hit every flavor and texture profile in one bite. Crunchy texture, tangy tomato, creamy grits with a bright red pepper sauce all equals one fantastic bite after another. My roasted chicken came out looking all heavenly on my plate. The skin was crispy and perfectly seasoned. I started off with the breast, mannnnn it was so tender, savory and moist. You can tell that chicken was brined for the right amount of time. It was some of the best roasted chicken I've had in a while. The fried okra looked like golden coins. They were so good! The green beans were rich in color with a hearty amount of bacon in the ramekin. The green beans were overly salted. I did have a few bites but unfortunately I couldn't finish them. Everything about our dinner tonight was lovely. Our server was fabulous. The venue is stunning. It was so busy the last time I was in so I couldn't really appreciate the beauty in this venue. Everything about this joint is just so pretty, I adore the chic southern setting. The fried green tomatoes were killer and my dinner was tasty. It was nice enjoying our time here tonight. I look forward to coming back soon.

And after finding out that Blue Bench Brunchette and Biscuits and Hogs were all affiliated, I made a point not to spend a dime at any of those businesses. I recently found out that Blue Bench is under new management. Knowing that this joint has new owners, I was totally down to give it a shot. New management means new expectations and service. I was done doing labs at the hospital. I told my husband let's go get breakfast and we made our way in. I love love love how darling this venue is. It's bright, fun and girly. I adore the decor. It's a smaller venue so the space is cute and dainty. Even though it's a smaller venue, tables and booths are nicely spaced out. You're not on top of each order. I can imagine this place being crazy on the weekends so I'm happy we decided to try this place out on a Monday. It was chill. Our server got some coffee and apple juice started for us while we looked over the menu. Everything looked so good! For brunch my husband got the Brunch trio. He picked cinnamon roll French toast, a cinnamon roll and some eggs. I got the sunrise sampler with cinnamon roll French toast. I had to try a little bit of everything. I also snagged a side of country gravy for my potatoes. Food came out really fast and it all looked fantastic! The cinnamon roll French toast was so fragrant. My husband's cinnamon roll looked divine. And the sunrise sampler was all about business! It was hearty! If you ever eat here, the cinnamon roll French toast is a must! It's crispy on the outside topped with butter and cinnamon sugar dust. The inside is soft and warm. Killer good! I did take a bite of my husband's cinnamon roll. It was mehhh. But I think if it was served warm, it would have been that much better. It was cold, dry and stiff. The bacon and sausage on my plate were cooked perfectly! My eggs were great and the potatoes were tasty! I do wish that the country gravy was not lumpy. I couldn't get over the lumps in the gravy from it sitting. I had about a couple spoons of it and couldn't eat it. It looked esthetically displeasing. Breakfast was good. Aspen did a decent job taking care of us. The venue is super charming. But the cinnamon roll was cold and honestly tasted like it wasn't freshly baked. The country gravy was lumpy and not very hot. It sucked to pay for a side of it and not enjoy it. Overall our visit was great. I don't know when we will be back but the cinnamon roll French toast will be a must have the next time we come in.

From the letter on door: "As many know, there has been a significant slowdown in consumer spending, especially in restaurants starting late 2024. We've done our very best to keep prices in line with what makes sense to cover costs and provide full benefits for our amazing staff," the letter said. "However, with sales down across all entities this year, we must re-evaluate our operations and make the necessary difficult decisions to be a sustainable business. Also, for the first time in many years, we recently lost two key people in our organization, and they both were a large part of what made Wild Root special. Last, we are heading into the slower, winter months. Instead of scrambling to keep the doors open, we are going to shut it down to evaluate everything."

I came here for a late lunch around 2 pm after arriving in Boise. They weren't crowded at this point but business wasn't dead either. My waitress was very friendly. Inside has a lived-in, intimate feel, but it was pretty dark, so much that I wasn't sure they were actually open as I was opening the door. I had the French dip sandwich with a side of tomato basil soup. The sandwich was delicious and tasted homemade in the best way. The "meat" of the sandwich was seitan. I don't THINK it was a perfect meat replica (but I've never had a real French dip), but it was very flavourful. I loved the flavour and the thick cut of their bread, but it didn't have much structure and fell apart easily as I was eating which made the sandwich very messy. The tomato basil soup was a little different. It was slightly creamy but brothy and a little chunky - not a smooth puree. Again, it tasted great and was nice and light, which was a good contrast to the very rich sandwich. It was a little slow, especially considering they weren't that busy. I didn't really mind since I wasn't on a schedule, but this is something to be aware of - don't come here for a quick meal. Not cheap, but worth it for the quality.

When we arrived we had to wait for a table and added our names to the list. We watched and waited for close to 40 minutes for our table because the space is so small. I have heard they are moving soon so that's a good thing for them. When we finally got our table they promptly brought us coffee and gave us time to look at the menu. So the service wasn't bad. No we get to the issue. There were 3 of us for breakfast 2 of us ordered the Chicken Fried Steak and the other got the Model A Breakfast. When everything came out it looked good and my mom enjoyed her Model A Breakfast. The issue was the Chicken Fried Steak and not necessarily the steak part but the Gravy on top of everything. The gravy was super thick and I wondered why and I figured it out. They must use something like pancake mix for the flour part of the gravy because all I could smell was pancakes and there were none on our table. Both myself and my partner noticed the smell of pancakes. This gave us both a bad taste for the gravy and neither of us could finish our Chicken Fried Steaks. So in my opinion the wait time was not worth the breakfast we could not enjoy or finish.
