So on any normal occasion I might not have given this place a 4. The food wasn't all that great (don't get anything with the white country gravy, yuck). The potatoes were boring and the meat products average. Though the service was excellent, fast, and friendly. But after hiking to the top of South Sister and back down, I'd have a hard time giving any food establishment a bad review, whether it was a rancid hot dog stand or even a McMenimans. Especially a food establishment that didn't mind catering to a couple of smelly, dusty, yucky hikers. One thing that did actually impress me were their pancakes. Those were surprisingly fluffy and sweet. I really wanted to get a dessert but I stuffed myself silly with buttery pancake goodness. Moral of the story: if you're not smellin so great and you are hungry for ridiculously big portion sizes and want some fast friendly service, this is the place. read more

This place was just okay. Their onion rings were really good, but the rest of our food - not really sure what happened. The kitchen staff sure wasn't on their game the night we went. Our orders were wrong, the waitress was harried, and acted like we were bothering her. After all was done, though she seemed to come around - guess pressure isn't her thing. I will probably go back when I visit, just because it's clean, the food is okay, and it's comfortable. The lunch we had the next day was much better, and the pies are really good! I just wanna stay the server that came to the rescue is the only reason I gave two stars. She was a sweetheart and is the only reason that I don't give a worse review. Well, to start off our busser took our drink Oder and was quite frankly rude and unprofessional about the whole thing. We never got waters even after asking for them. After getting our coffees and ojs it took an addition 25 minutes to get our mimosas we ordered even tho we ordered them with the coffees. Our red head server walked past us numerous times without saying a word. She checked out IDs and still took a while to receive our mimosas. Never got the mini bottle that the flute should've came with. It was basically straight OJ with a splash of champagne. After my family questioning what was going on with the whole experience and watching tables next to us getting served before us even though we had been waiting much longer than them for service. We had to ask for forks when our food came out. My nephews pancake was undercooked and had to be sent back. My California benny didn't have bacon- which is a main ingredient to a cali benny When it was sent back to be fixed - It was like they threw bacon on and smothered extra hollandaise sauce to try to make it ok; but my "poached eggs" were over cooked. Still never got our waters. Overall a poor experience. Especially because I've worked both front and back of the house and hate leaving bad reviews but this was definitely the worse dine in experience I've had. I sent it back and got back white toast...heated just enough to make it hard. This has happened before and is maddening. No other restaurant does this. Traveling from out of state and chose to eat at the Bend location since it was close to our hotel. One waitress was so loud and obnoxious we couldn't even enjoy our meal!!! Was picking incessantly on our waitress Taylor who provided excellent service to us. When we went to pay our tab the obnoxious hostess/waitress was on the phone with her boss complaining up a storm about Taylor and left us standing at the register. Very unprofessional behavior. The lunch is usually pretty decent and good prices help that out. Today, however, we tried breakfast... I must start by saying my kid's chocolate chip pancakes were great. But my Corned Beef Hash w/biscuits and gravy meal was very unplesant. Corned Beef was just very dry and cold shreeded beef, and the hash browns were litterally cooked for a minute to get crispy on the outside, but the 1in layer of potatoes on the inside were quite litterally raw. I mean they were hard to stab with a fork, just like a raw potatoe. My biscuits were old and stale, i know because the gravy didnt seep into them and i could have used them as a hockey puck. My fried eggs came out scrambled, and my wifes side of fries came out as another biscuit and gravy. After fixing the egg/fries situation, my wife found a foot long piece of hair in her meal. That was the tipping point. 2 stars for the kids meal, and also having good food the last visit. Probably going to steer clear of this place from now on... read more

I've eaten at quite a few black bear diners and this location sticks out and not in a good way. First it was a Friday at 6pm and there was maybe 4 tables occupied. There was one server working and one cook and one busser. This should have been a warning sign to me but I didn't pay attention at the time. Honestly I'm a fan of black bear and this location let me down big time. My burger the bottom bun was soggy and mushy and couldn't even be picked up. I came here to eat lunch and I must say it was good. My half soup and sandwich combo really hit the spot! The service was on point and their pie selection looked appealing, even though I wasn't in the mood for dessert. The lodge-themed decor was kinda cool, with the stuffed toy bears placed at the bar area and their array of table-side hot sauces labeled after the 3 bears (baby for original pepper, mama for chipotle, and papa for habanero) was also a nice touch. Heard many things about this place, all good of course, but was extremely devastated at the personal experience I had here with my family. First off, it took a long time for a waitress to attend to us, and when she did, poorly done, she just went and to told us what we wanted and even made facial gestures as if questioning our choices, and to top it off, didn't ask if we wanted any drinks at all. Secondly, when she came and brought us our waters, while i was drinking mine, I couldn't help but notice food crumbs or soaked leftover specs of food inside of my cup of water, truly disgusting! (maybe re-evaluate your dishwasher?) Thirdly, the food took longer than we expected (we did expect it to take a while, but took way longer). and to make matters worse, two of our plates had over 50% of the food overcooked (or burnt). And one of those plates was an omelette, yep it was not an omelette, just steamed vegetables with an egg on top of it. I was excited to see what this restaurant had in store for us but was disappointed with the outcome. Would definitely recommend if the manager or owners were to re-evaluate waitresses and cooks to see how they do their jobs and which areas they could improve! read more

I try really hard not to leave negative reviews because I also have a job where reviews are written and I know how that feels to read negative stuff about where you work. But man, this was by far one of the worst meals I've had. I ordered the thanksgiving dinner: green beans were obviously canned, turkey was DRY and it had NO flavor. My boyfriend ordered the vegetarian omelette and he said it was soggy, mushrooms also tasted like they were from a can and overall not very tasty. When we told the waitress (who was really sweet and I could tell she felt bad) only offered to take $5 off our bill. Our meals were $11-$13/each. While we were in line to pay our bill the couple ahead of us were also talking about their meal being pretty bad: food wasn't cooked all the way and they served it with an ingredient the gentleman was allergic tonight. Nothing positive to say about this place. There were a group of about 10 of us. Nobody's food was fully cooked! The steak was raw---not rare but raw. My friends' eggs were not done. I mean, the "whites" were still clear. The bacon was raw. The eggs benedict could not even be considered eggs benedict. I mean, the ham was lunchmeat ham! The "hollandaise" sauce was bland and uneventful--tasted packaged. Actually, Knorr's is better! The worst part of it was that it made my friend vomit, and the rest of us had severe stomach aches. Good-enough but unremarkable food. The service at this particular location in the weekday mornings is terrible. We ate there maybe 6 times over 2 or 3 weeks (it was the only thing open that early close to our hotel), and nearly every time the place was almost empty (2 or 3 tables max) and the waitress took many minutes to do anything-I in fact have had to walk up to where she's BSing with the cook and ask for water on THREE separate occasions. My kids and I went for Mother's Day dinner. I had the T-bone steak with mashed potatoes and gravy. My daughter had the french dip sandwich and my other two kids shared the bbq ribs. My steak was tough and the potatoes were swimming in nasty beef gravy. Bleh! The ribs my kids had were really fatty and not a lot of meat on them. First time, and last time. Well, to begin I was there yesterday, Memorial Day, and we were seated within 5 minutes. The restaurant was not packed and there were quite a few open tables when we came in. Finally the hostess came over and said our waitress was running behind and so she took our drink order. She came back pretty promptly with our drinks and our waitress had still not been to our table. About 10 minutes later, the waitress came by and quickly took our order. We sat and visited at our table and finally began to wonder when our food would be coming as it had been quite awhile. Three tables that had order at the same time or after us had all received their food, then proceeded to finish and leave. The waitress never came by to check on us and never even walked by our table so we could ask about our food, or request more water. She finally came by and said somehow the kitchen did not get our ticket and our food was just now being made. Our food finally arrived after we had already been there waiting for an hour, and it was not even our waitress who brought the food to us. No we did not get any water and no one checked on us again. Our ketchup bottle on the table was empty so I finally went up to the counter and asked for a new one and the waitress took the bottle from the guests she was taking their order and handed it to me. Another waitress finally brought us our check. I handed her my credit card and she proceeded to take it to the hostess. The hostess brought it to me five minutes later and I discover she had charged me for another table's food. Took another 15 minutes to get that straightened out, so needless to say I will never be dining there again. read more

The staff here is very friendly, but they don't do as much as they can (they probably make minimum wage plus tips, so I don't blame them). We eat here 3-4 per year and love going every time.
