We came to sample their Happy Hour offerings. THE GOOD The service at our table was excellent. Prompt, polite and not intrusive. The drinks were as advertised on the menu and we had an assortment of them. Special note for the Irish Coffee. It was outstanding and we have had Irish coffees on 4 continents including the supposed birthplace of them at the Buena Vista in SF. The Black Widow bloody Mary was as advertised - hot. Loved it, the fact that it turned my mouth blue, was less charming. The fish tacos were a pleasant variation of the Baja CA, Mexico standard. The fish was light and flaky, the tortilla was stout and held up to some use. Great portion. The salsa was unimaginative and hard to add to the tacos. Would recommend the chef think thru a crema and habanero salsa to compliment the fish. It would work better with the dish. THE NOT GOOD The Carne asada fries were very large as advertised. Unfortunately, the dish was too wet and the fries suffered from it. The level of salt was off the charts and ruined what could have been a good dish. With Carne Asada fries, less is better, when it comes to toppings. This dish violated that approach and the taste of the meat was lost. It was a hot mess. See photo. The finger steaks were the most troubling part of our experience. The BREADING not the BATTER, was all wrong for steak. One bite and the breading stayed in your hand and the steak was removed because of its toughness. The chef needs to understand this breading does not work when the customer is eating with fingers. The sausage gravy dip was totally wrong, flavorless. Best recommendation is to remove it from the menu until you can get it done like Lindy's does it. THE BAD The men's bathroom. Lots of things wrong here to include no hot water. It met the lowest cleanliness standards I have ever seen in Idaho, that includes truck stops and gas stations. Think about cleaning more than once per day. Here is a report from Central District Health inspection on April 6 (the day before our visit): Restrooms not properly cleaned, constructed, and/or convenient. Door not self-closing. It is interesting to note that corrections have not been made and this is a repeat violation for this place. Hate to think what is going on in the kitchen. read more

The champagne glitter is so pretty and they have many choices for flavored champagne, and ones you can even get in a keg (more than 3 people) or the lawn flamingo (wish I took a picture of that!) The biscuits and gravy are so good and they don't spare in the big portions here. Oddly enough the saltine crackers and dip appetizer is very good and so is the French toast! Our family came twice while in ID, and this is place we will always return to when we visit. read more

We visited on a Saturday morning and it was busy but we only waited about 15 minutes to be seated at a booth. The staff was friendly and helpful. At first, i thought the prices seemed a little hefty, but when my breakfast was delivered on a platter big enough for a thanksgiving turkey, I understood. I ordered the Farmhouse Benedict. The only real connection to a traditional Eggs Benedict is the poached egg. The biscuit that makes up the base is super flakey and light. The meatloaf under the country gravy is rich. I had brunch here and despite the crowd waiting up front, we were seated right away for five. Maybe those folks were waiting for the rest of their party? The plates here are massive. I ordered the waffle and chicken and received a tower of four giant waffles with sliced fried chicken strips and jalapenos on top of it. I ordered it hog style which for this dish meant an additional gravy sauce was provided and luckily I had the hog sauce on the side since I ended up not liking the horseradish in it. Others at the table liked the sauce though. My waffles were a bit dry so I wouldn't order this again. The chicken to waffle ratio was also disappointing. I sampled the brisket benny at the table and liked that better, although the biscuit was also dry. I felt like their meat is better than their carbs here. We came in a few weeks ago on Friday and we're seated pretty quickly at 12:15p. The restaurant was busy, but there was a lot of staff. I had an event to decorate pumpkins with my kiddos at 1:45p. Plenty of time right? NOPE! I'm not kidding when I tell you we waited OVER AN HOUR to get our food. We talked about leaving so many times, but we had already ordered the food... Even worse, when the food finally arrived the fries were ice cold, and my daughter's chicken tenders were cold as well. Not to mention, somehow two kids meals and a salad with water (for me) was going to cost us $50 once I added the tip in. The price on the Kids Meal Menu says $10.99 (which is still crazy high for a kids item have you), but we were charged more...Maybe the lunch side of the kids menu is more? Pretty deceiving if you ask me. Just put the prices on the menu! Needless to say, when our food finally came out, I immediately asked for the check and to-go boxes because I knew we were going to miss the event my daughters were so looking forward to. We scarfed down what we could in 10 min and bolted out of there. Not enjoyable at all, and pretty much ruined our day. Our server was kind and friendly, but also helpless as he just kept pacing into the kitchen and then coming back out looking frustrated, while never even making eye contact with us. We were able to try this place out during brunch hours. It was worth checking out! When we arrived around noon, we did not have any reservations and was told it will take about 30 minutes. Luckily, there were open seats available at the bar area and it was a first come first serve. So we opted at the bar area and did not wait. We ordered Chicken Fried Steaks with potatoes and I opted for biscuits french toast and a smoked brisket Benny Benedict. For drinks, their huckleberry mimosa and draft beer. Everything is AMAZING! The CFS is flavorful, not just all breading but really tasty. The smoked brisket Benedict is really yummy as well. Large portions in my opinion and we had to bring half portions back home. Well, finally got to Biscuit & Hogs and it didn't disappoint folks. Big portions, quality is top notch, bacon is candied and delicious, pancakes are huge mungus, there really isn't anything to dislike here. The biscuits and gravy were great. Some of the best I have had here locally. The fried chicken was delicious as well. Highly recommend the chicken and biscuit. Prepare yourself though it's a a lot to handle. The biscuit French toast was ridiculous, just stupid. Melt in your mouth, pray for baby Jesus to expand your stomach to fit more good. Get it...just...just get it. The big surprise was the potatoes. They were top notch, like best breakfast potatoes I have had. And I have a lot. They are savory, a bit sweet, they just nailed these. A must have side here. All and all it's a fantastic local spot. As great as this restaurant is, you're probably going to have to wait a long time to get a table. We put our name on the waitlist an hour before showing up and we still had to wait another hour once we arrived. After waiting for 2 hours, we finally got seated. I will say once we got seated our food came out fast and we had great service. The food was delicious. All of the meals have huge portions. Whatever you order, make sure you get a side of bacon as it is one of their specialties. This Biscuit and Hogs is not as good as a year of two ago. Prices are out of control. Almost everything is $20/person for any meal. The $7.99 breakfast specials are good but 9am too late to start it. I went twice, one for dinner and one for happy hour. Both were mediocre. Chicken fried steak dinner a big disappointment. A not so big, mostly breading obviously frozen hunk of dry meat. I thought everything was house-made. Not this. Tough, gristly, and $20. The mashed potato bowl was great, although they brought me the wrong one. It's like KFC without the chicken. I also had the dinner salad. It's ok, but little choice of dressing. No bread/roll with the meal. That would sop up the nice gravy. The dollar beers with happy hour can't be beat. Any draft beer. But the happy appetizers are not a great deal anymore--except the nachos. Way more than enough for two, the brisket nachos are a meal. I would recommend any of their BBQ meats. Brisket is excellent. Fatty and Falls apart with just the right amount of seasoning and sauce. read more

Heck yes. We are traveling through this area during Mother's Day weekend. Asked our airbnb host, for a local restaurant recommendation. I Googled this place, they'd never heard of it. Hmm anyhow, took a chance and honestly AMAZING. Ample parking area, especially for my truck. immediately greeted and seated. My Idaho plate was so delicious and large. As was my little girls pancake kids meal. I mean seriously, the largest pancake I've ever seen for a children's meal option. The size of and old record, my parents have. Just huge! My take on B&H is: sometimes, less really is better! I rarely let my family choose were to dine because (1) I'm the Boise foodie and (2) somehow they always manage to pick the places with the most average tasting dishes. I really should have spoken up this morning but it was 6:30 am and I really wasn't in the mood to argue. So here we go. Seated as soon as we walked in, I began my meal with a cup of jo'. I will point out I did appreciate the large coffee cups - small cups drive me crazy because I drink coffee like my life depends on it. Decided to belly up to the Chicken and a Biscuit (maple glazed fried chicken on a split buttermilk biscuit topped with sharp cheddar cheese, two eggs and smothered in sausage gravy with Idaho home fries, $13.29) that I split with my mother. I'm glad I did. The serving was enormous, ridiculously oversized. My overall thought? MEH. There wasn't much taste. It was okay. The maple glaze on the chicken was yummy but not amazing. Nothing spectacular. Its like they *tried* to create something unique but didn't take the extra mile to truly do so. Momma thought the same (and momma's always right). Husband chowed down on a Breakfast Sando (Jalapeño jelly, cream cheese, signature pork belly bacon strips and fried egg on a grilled brioche bun, side of Idaho home fries, $11.99). To be honest he really only had a few bites before he said, "I can't take this anymore." I had a couple nibs. Overall, too much going on here. Should rename it Diabetes Sando! It was overwhelmingly sweet. The jelly was piled right on the middle of the sandwich, and I got a mouthful of it. Combined with the bacon that was literally ALL fat, I felt like I was eating grease scraped straight off the pan. Big miss. He agrees. On one other bright note besides the coffee, the home fries were good. I try to be fair and not allow other reviews influence my own but all the negativities were blatantly apparent and I should have steered my fam the other direction. I do want to also point out that not one person was wearing a mask which goes to say how much the operators care about their patrons, little to none. I'm always on a mission for the northwest's best chicken and waffle, so whenever I see it on a menu, my decision is made for me. With regards to my search, this was not the chicken and waffle I've been looking for. While it was a gigantic portion, the flavor didn't really spark anything outside of a decent chicken on top of a couple decent waffles with a sprinkling of fresh cut jalapeños on top. The sage waffle with white cheddar has mild savory flavors that get masked under the syrup, so the sweet and savory is largely drowned out by sweetness. The few bites with jalapeños were good, providing the bite had no seeds, but my god that was all I could taste when it packed the punch. I think the menu item could be elevated if they had a spicy syrup (I tried a few bites with the table's bottle of hot honey) or if the kitchen cored the jalapeños as part of their process, but as it is I probably wouldn't order it again. My wife tried the French toast breakfast, and unfortunately it was largely bread with compote. The consistency of the biscuit was the same as the french toast, only with berries and syrup on them. The meat was all great, when looked at individually, it was the composition of the plates that were lackluster. On the flip side, our server was incredibly personable and friendly, and the restaurant is perfectly in theme for an American eatery, all the way down to the Shania Twain on the radio. While I may not come back for breakfast, I will potentially update my review if I ever come back for lunch or supper. read more

We live literally 5 mins straight down Overland from Biscuits & Hogs and let me tell you it's all the will power we can muster to not go here every weekend for breakfast. We tried dinner once, and while it was good it doesn't hold a flame to their breakfast game which is on point. When you ask about pancakes and the waitress/waiter warns you they are large please head their advice. Pancakes come out the size of wheel hub caps, no joke! The Trough Burrito is good size and well done along breakfast tacos or breakfast sandwich. We have found nothing bad on the breakfast menu. If you read one thing, read my number 1 piece of advice. Almost every breakfast dish comes with country fries (sliced potatoes) and you can ask for "hog style". If you enjoy life and especially if you came in stretchy pants, this is your option. They have a homemade honey mustard they cut with their homestyle gravy which then drowns the potatoes and then sprinkle on small chunks of pork belly and cheese. Pancake: The pancake comes half the size of the table more of a fun schtick,.. but no one told me ... so I was left with way too much food left over ... and I felt they should have told me ahead how big it was when I said I wanted pancakes. Everyone in the restaurant turned their head to stare when it cane out; it was that big of a plate. Almost comical looking how it hung off the small table no room for it even. Would be a good, fun thing to get if you had four people who all wanted pancakes just order only that and dig in together... but it didn't even taste that good. My wife and I are always looking for a new breakfast place to go to. I tell my wife that you never know. We might just find a treasure that we will keep and go to for years to come. I'm sad to say that we did not find this gem here. My first impression of Biscuit & Hogs is that it is a place with an identity crises. Its a breakfast place that is trying to be a bar. A sports bar that is trying to be a lunch place. And a dinner place that is..well back to trying to be a bar. The impression I got fro this place is that they are gimmicky. Huge portions of food, signs with cutesy sayings on them, cutlery that is gold in color, and others. Me, Im not interested in gimmicks. I want good food served to me before I start growing a beard. My wife and I waited about 30 to 45 minutes for our food. When it finally came, it was... shall we say interesting. Everything is large here. The pancake that my wife ordered completely filled her plate. It looked tasty, but that is where the good news ended. We both tasted it and both us us thought it was trough and dry. Its very hard to mess up a pancake. My guess is that because its so large, it took way too much time to cook and got, tough. Better to keep pancakes smaller so you can get them light and fluffy. My wife had, what was supposed to be, scrambled eggs. In reality, it were just a small pile of tasteless yellow stuff. Her plate also came with link sausage, which was good, but the casing was crunchy and the insides greasy. I decided to try something different so I had the Trough Burrito. Big mistake. I could not nail down the flavor at all on this. It was greasy, sweet in places and had odd flavors I could not identity. My meal came with what was supposed to be home fries. Unfortunately, I did not snap a pic of these. They looked nothing like the pic on their menu. They might have been potatoes once, but now, they were just a huge pile of yucky brown. The look was so off putting that I could not bring myself to eat them. The bottom line here is that unless you are looking for a heart atack from the abundance of grease and portions that are way too big, I do not recommend this place. read more

Been on my radar since moving to the area and reading positive reviews on FB. Celebrated an early Mom's Day breakfast with local family and out-of-town cousins. Got the Idaho Scramble (with bacon instead of sausage), potatoes, and fried biscuit french toast. The only item that had distinct flavor was the slice of pork belly bacon I snaked from someone elses plate. It's candied. The eggs are over-mixed with ingredients and just tasted salty. The biscuit french toast was good dipped in maple syrup. I didn't eat a lot of it as my entire dish felt very heavy on oil and fat. All the dishes were $15 and over. Unfortunately, no one else at the table was impressed with their meals either. If you are into massive quantity, then this is the place for you.
