I must start by stating I visit the Emerald city a few times a year and have never missed an opportunity to visit Beths Cafe, it has been a must on my itinerary everytime. Over the past 6 years my wife and I have frequented Beths several times and have grown to love not only the experience but the friendliness of the staff especially our favorite server Kelsey Rabbit. In the past we have visited and almost everytime we were immediatly recognized and greeted warmly by kelsey and this along with coloring and checking out some awesome artwork is one reason we have given our return business. We have never had a negative experience with the cafe or the staff personally until the other day. We walked in and were greeted by a woman we had seen before but had never taken the time to learn her name because of amazing lack of people skills. Come to find out her name is Janel which I soon deemed JANEL THE WAITRESS FROM HELL. As soon as she greeted us I wished she had said nothing at all and ignored us as that would have been 10x's warmer than the greeting we received. This greeting told me that this woman was obviously in the wrong proffesion and was in serious need of a stick removal. I believe people who deal with customers should be people persons or at least know how to fake it. I have worked for a major cell phone company for 10 plus years and had to work my way through the customer service department so I know how it can be. Now maybe my job was slightly simpler as the customer couldnt see my face. However no matter how bad a day I was having or pissed they were making me I would never take it out on the people who helped pay my check. I just couldnt understand how this woman had the gall to treat us in such a manner to our faces as if we had done something to her personally. Maybe she didnt realize just how rude she was but Ill tell you what. WE DID. The fact that this woman has worked there for so long baffles me and makes me question a manager who would employ such an ingrateful unsociable person to handle customers or their food in the first place. What baffles me even more is how could the ownerrs employ a manager who would employ someone as rude an frigid knowing how damaging a negative attitude such as hers can have on the experience of not only one but all customers and staff who walk through those doors. As soon as she greeted us I was struck with the fist clenching stomach turning overwheming urge to grab up my wife and leave never to return which we did. I used to sing the praises of such a wonderful establishment however these events have shown Beths in a new light and Im sad to say it only took one bad egg to ruin my 12 egg omlette experiences forever. If your going to eat at Beths your in for a gamble so make sure to ask for anyone besides Janel for your anything, or you'll have to stomach watching this woman talk rude about customers under her breath and deliver poor service. I would recomend you ask for Kelsey Rabbit I can promise your dining experience will be far above par. My wife and I have set our minds and made a decision that if Janel is working there we wont be visiting anymore which breaks both of our hearts. Its sad how one persons lack of people skills in a customer service business such as food can make or break a customers resolve. Ihope to all who read this you take a second to think about it before you eat at Beths and if you decide too please remember beware "JANEL THE WAITRESS FROM HELL" read more

In my mind's eye, I picture Beth as a broad-shouldered bull-browed woman with respectable scars and blurring tattoos on her popeye-like forearms, croaking out affectionate abuse to the regulars while easily managing a flat top covered with eggs, bacon, hash browns, and pancakes. In her youth she was a groupie, and there is a rumor, which she won't confirm or deny, that Peter Criss was singing that ballad to her, tears streaking his cat facepaint. Only a Beth like that could possibly helm a café like this, where the small omelets are six eggers served on pizza plates, and the homemade hashbrowns are all-you-can-eat, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, from bar crowd to family breakfasts. Beth's manages to cover off two Fieri categories - it is both an excellent diner and a brilliant dive. It's worth repeating my criteria for great dives: 1. Outsde - Organic architecture. You can't fake the funk. If you started with a modern steel box, you aren't going to get there. The building should look ramshackle, old, lived-in, maybe on the verge of falling over. Check - Beth's building went up in the 30s and the cafe opened in 1954 on Aurora, which was basically Seattle's red light gaming district and remains just a little seedy. 2. Inside - Funky, eclectic decor. Something you weren't expecting on the walls or ceiling, like, say, a vintage ice racing sailboat, a collection of Ernest Borgnine portraits, live turtles. Check - everyone gets crayons and paper and notable opuses (opii?) paper the walls and menus (menuii?). 3. Staff - friendly, but in the words of Johnny Rotten pretty.....vacant. Check - We've had great luck with servers, but if the 8am-4pm shift is late, you can bet the 12-8am staff is going to be cranky. At our 7:30 breakfast one server barreled out of the back room shouting "don't trust any of them, none of them are drinking coffee." 4. Welcome - Your first impression should be "What in the world am I walking into? Am I welcome here? Is this place a front? Which of these people work here?" That should quickly be followed by a hearty and genuine welcome from whoever actually does work there, or their friend who is just "hanging out". Check - the entrance is nearly on top of the cashier station and faces the chaotic open kitchen and counter filled with locals trying to time their next cigarette break with their coffee refills. 5. Food - surprisingly fresh and good. Check - everything is house made - including the biscuits. The place goes through nearly half a million eggs a year, nothing sits around here. There may be better breakfast spots in Seattle, but I'll never know about them, because Beth's is so reliable. It really deserves 3.5 stars. read more

I have been a regular at Beth's since 1994 going there with friends and family. I had THE WORST experience there tonight. Out of the four employees working there tonight I got treated with passive aggressive rudeness and was completely ignored and spoken down to by three out of four employees (didn't talk to cook) Our shaved headed, four leaf clover on his back left shoulder tattooed waiter spoke down to my husband when he politely inquered if he was our waiter after we had been waiting 25 minutes without even being acknowledged. He told my husband in a snarky voice to "go ahead and go sit" Then he continued to clean and completely ignore us longer! We really wanted to leave at this point but a long drive plus hunger helped us stay. After we ordered our pricey (but large and tasty) breakfast my husband smiled and politely apologized to our crabby, tatooted served explaining he didn't mean to bug him. Mr. Krabs didn't say a WORD to even acknowledge my husband's apology. And his helper with her too short and tight Daisy Dukes and Thumper tattoo chasing butterflies tatoo on her ankle was rude and had to be repeatly (politey) asked to refill our coffee three times. She rushed the coffee pot over after we laid out the tab plus healthy tip to pay after our meal had been ruined with bad service. I refused coffee at this point and she actually rolled her eyes at that. Ive got tats. Im a quiet, clean foodie that tips 25%.I worked in many restaurants for years and never saw this level open hostility and rudeness in employees, they were much nastier than the drunk redneck patrons I had to cut off or refuse alcohol to when I was a bartender at a busy bar/resturant in Seattle. Not just towards us but other patrons as well. IF YOU SEE THE TWO I DESCRIBED WORKING PLUS THE LONG DARK HAIR GIRL WORKING THE REGISTER GO SOMEWHERE ELSE TO EAT. The art is a cool mix of brilliant drawings and chill 4:20/fantasy/anime/political humor. But even the kick ass drawings didn't make up for the terrible and unnecessary rude behavior of the staff inside Beth's Cafe in Seattle tonight. Beth's just lost two customers of 22 years plus every family member and friend I have. Plus anyone I meet at 2500 patient load hospital were I work as RN evenings. Beths cafe, you really let us down :( Goodbye and good riddence, I can fry up a greasy/cheap pile of hasbrowns and overcooked egg omelet myself better. Or go to any Dennys or Sharis and eat better food with a nice, normal staff. Sad day for this fourth generation Seattle citizen. read more

They wouldn't let us give it a 0. but lets be honest, one star is too good. To start, this place is CRACKED. It's on Aurora, right? So yeah, you'll probs meet some strippers, and they probably wont be cute. After a long night of keyed adventures, me and my friend Ching (yeah Ching and Chong :) ) decided to go to Beth's for some late night snackin' because it was rumored to be the crackin 24 hour spot. THA RUMORS WERE WRONG. We walked in and there was just waaaayyy too many fuckin pictures. They were everywhere. We immediately stopped in the bathroom where the toilet is -- for no reason what-so-ever -- elevated above the ground. Weird shit. Then when deciding to sit down, we figured, "Hey, why not sit with some randoms. Who knows?" As we were deciding who were the cutest randoms to sit with, the tallest man i've ever seen with probably the smallest penis, informed us that at Beth's they honor the "No Joiners" policy. Here's where shit got fucked. No Joiners?? I wouldn't have fucking told him that we were gonna sit somewhere with randoms if I knew there was any sort of retard policy about joining tables. What about friendship? What about all the cracked out drawings on the walls and shit? What about the worldwide policy that peeps who are fucked up should get to meet other people who are probably equally as fucked up?!?!?!??? I rest my case. OH! So then, after sitting at our own table, we tried to move to a different table but were stopped before we could even stand up by some fugly waitress who goes "if you're thinking about going to a bigger table you can't" SORRY BUT YOU CAN FUCK OFF. Anyway, we left, ASAP. Plus everyone there totally sucked so it wasn't really our crowd anyway. Ching n' Chong OUT. read more

Beth's is a Seattle institution and I'm not really sure why. I will admit, I can't be sure whether or not this reputation influences my review, as with trying any much-lauded thing, you wonder what all the hoopla is about when you fail to be wow'ed. I'm giving it the benefit of the doubt with four stars. As with any restaurant/bar, I have to ask myself, what is it about this place that would make me want to come back? To go through the effort of having to get in my car and drive someplace farther than three blocks from my house? I will tell you right now the main answer is 24hr dining. As someone in the industry, there are precious few places open for food when I get off work. But my love for Beth's pretty much stops there. Yes, I have attempted to tackle the 12-egg omlette (with a friend). It's a novelty, nothing more. The service is quick and competent (though on one occasion my party of 10 was refused late-night service-- busy night, but we were willing to split among tables, do one check per table, and wait an unlimited amount of time-- someone was just having an attitude problem that night) and the menu is standard greasy-spoon fare. It is completely average, and I usually mean that in a bad way. Prices are on the high side for what this place is. No frills, nothing fancy, bare bones "homemade" decor, and isn't even that clean. I would definitely change the "Price" rating from ($) to ($$). Isn't ($) supposed to mean meal and a drink for less than $10? One mini-breakfast and a cup of coffee ran me $12 after tax and tip. But I guess something's gotta cover the cost of running all night long-- which is the only reason I'll keep coming back. :) read more

Look. I love dives...but this place is no dive, no greasy-spoon, no diner. No, this place is the restaurant equivalent to chlamydia. Seattle has ALWAYS lacked in the way of all-night eat-'em-ups and it kills me every time Beth's is ever mentioned as some great bastion of this type of cuisine. I want my diner food made by solemn, somewhat mysterious middle-aged men in white. I want it served by old ladies wearing pastel dresses; their coiffes rigorously cantilevered with loads of hairspray and flowers. I used to frequent a place (Morgan's Diner) in St. Louis where this was the rule, not some cinematic cliche. By the way, other fine examples in St. Lou (at least when I lived there): Eat-Rite, Irv's Good Food, O.T. Hodge's, Courtesy Drive-In, etc., etc. Anyway, I only drop these names to establish the credibility that Beth's cannot even begin to muster. The few unfortunate times that I have been dragged to this dungpile, I have left stinking of hot funk custard covered in guebe dust.. With regard to the staff, I'll just say I'm sick and tired of nasty-ass Generation Why twits who are going out of their way to complicate their lives and prematurely age themselves for the sake of being "punk rock" (BOOOORING!) and I don't want them coming within an Area Code of my food. I have a friend who used to work in one of the last 35mm adult movie houses in Seattle. He once told me about how he had to mop the floor up and dump the water out in the street. I think that's a pretty good analog to how you'll feel walking out of this hellhole. Oh, ditto for the other house of ill-repute run by the same buncha bullshit: The Hurricane. read more

You don't go to Beth's for any sort of a memorable meal. You don't go to Beth's for even a great meal, honestly. You go to Beth's for the people watching, eavesdropping on fellow patrons drunken banter and indulging in a greasy, diet crushing cheeseburger at 3 am. I think Beth's is a lot of fun. It's loud. The wall décor keeps you entertained while you wait for a table and there's a side room designated as a waiting area that occupies sufficiently wasted, barely legal girls sauntering around in smeared mascara and fresh off the clearance rack mini-skirts. If you're sober, a visit to Beth's is empowering even. You can watch the parade of chaos and be proud that your nights of slinging back shots of warm jager are long behind you. The staff at Beth's have always been pleasant whenever I've visited. They are extremely busy and probably exhausted, which doesn't excuse any rude service, but it might help explain why some have had negative experiences. Again, the food here is good. The coffe is mediocre at best, but that's expected. The portions are pretty generous. Beth's is a place to stop by after a late movie or concert. It's not a place to go if you're looking for a quiet place to read a book and enjoy a good cup of coffee. read more

In the eye of the beholder. Shut down the door! This is my review, & I'll tell you like it is. I picture Beth as a large framed, broad-shouldered knotted browed woman cross-armed at the palms, & earlier her legs astride her bikes with indigo burns on her arms with hot grease dripping down her forehead, & she's definitely somebody's wife. Food, on the other hand is just as large & greasy but soft & remarkably tasty given there's not one iota of good oils in it! Yes, I'm speaking of the 12 egg omelette, & if you're less hungry, a 6 egg will suffice with unlimited refills of hash browns to make neighborhoring Idaho work their buttocks off supplying the potatoes! The Aardvark hot sauce made in nearby Portland is a must try condiment with your meal. There's a blue room that is a waiting room with peculiarities of a diaper table in it attached to a wall just like you'd find a modern public restroom, & inside the room there's an actual restroom with a door in it, & you can't tell if you're inside or outside that restroom with the throne up higher on a step...you feel as if you are waiting with a bunch of Seattle's hungry hoodlums in a toilet! Came in with a group, & we left like warriors. read more

Came into Beth's late at night with 5 friends everyone was sober. If your a female or with your girlfriend be ready when you pass the bar that this place is next to be hit on every time you walk by. But that's not why I'm giving Beth's a 2 star review. Walked in and saw the small space was full was told it would be a 20 minute wait which was fine we had a group and didn't call ahead. I work at a restaurant I know how it works. But at Beth's there is no real place to wait because it's so small so your outside with guess what the drunk people next door. We got seated I don't know how long it took but it was timely. After we sat the waiter came and my friends placed there order. I wasn't ready yet so I asked if he could come back in a few minutes. And was told "come on man I got 3 other tables besides you" I couldn't help but laugh cause the place is so small you barely have to move and 3 tables even in a large place is nothing to handle. I did end up ordering and my food wasn't anything special or good it was just food. And the prices to me were high for what you get. This place probably would have been a lot better if I was drunk or high like the rest of the reviewers say on here. read more

Beth's Cafe, established in 1954, is a delightful throwback to classic American diners, offering hearty breakfasts that leave you fully satisfied. I stopped in for breakfast and ordered an omelet scrambled with hash browns and toast, and I must say, the portion size was impressive! Every bite of the omelet was flavorful, perfectly cooked, and paired wonderfully with the crispy hash browns and warm, buttery toast. One of the standout features of Beth's Cafe is its unique interior design. The walls are decorated with charming, colorful crafts made by kids, giving the space a warm, nostalgic, and homey vibe. It's a place that feels like a community staple, full of character and history. While the service was average, it didn't detract from the overall experience. The staff was polite and kept things moving efficiently, even during a busy breakfast rush. The coffee, though just okay, was hot and complemented the meal well enough. Beth's Cafe is a must-visit if you're looking for a classic diner experience with generous portions and a cozy, artistic ambiance. It's a place where history meets comfort food, and I'll definitely be back to explore more of their menu! read more

5. Fuck it, a perfect 5! Not the most perfect omelet in the world, but this exemplifies (do NOT expect any other big words) the essence of a dining experience. The ambiance was perfect: greasy spoon flowered with kids drawings. The staff was the friendliest I've had in Seattle. Pierced, yet down home. I wanted to invite them into my booth. Perfect hash browns. Yes, I wanted more but I didn't indulge. Sacrilege. They were PERFECT as served. (take note: if you get to make love to a super model, do NOT press your luck.) Eggs. 6. Sure they were flattened out in a odd rectangular shape. They are EGGS...their nutritional value is the same in whatever geometric shape they are formed into by their human handlers. Delish! Let me say that I LIKE that I had to work to get there. Aurora, the devil's work; left on Winona (which makes me think of Wynona...oh, the horrors); turn around someplace; come around the corner and park on Aurora where few cars are......walk in and find MASSES who parked out back. shit. I so love Beth's. PS Jam in glass containers, not hemetically sealed micro-fucking-pods. PSS This greasy spoon didn't seem to have much grease! read more

I loved this place, but last night they f****** me over. I rode 2 hard miles to beths to get a 6 egg omelette. From Roosevelt to Aurora. 2 hard miles to get some f****** eggs. I rode a transpotation device I havent used for 4 years straight. I nearly puked to get there, just to have the food ive been craving for so long. I rode a bicycle I didnt even own, without asking, for 2 motherf****** miles I get to beths, angsty, just knowing im nearly minutes away from a tasty omlette. I know I have no lock for the bike, im not a Seattle native. Didnt know that was a requirement to have a f****** bicycle lock . I figure hey, what the f***? its 230 in the morning. Whats the issue with me getting in a booth with the bike? Sure as f*** am not going to leave it sitting outdoors. Motherf******. Sent me away saying theres no place to put it.. There was plenty of f****** room in a booth What happened next was traumatizing. Realizing where I was, Where I first met my ******. My F****** life ruining, whore of an ex. I rode through the streets of broken f****** dreams as my reward. Thanks motherf******.Totally worth the ride. read more

Ever wonder what those people do when they expect that their cell phone clocks (since these are the only clocks they have in the house) don't FALL BACK with the time change, and their alarms go off as expected but an hour early? Yes my friends, 5 am is an awesome time to crawl outta the shower and discover you are AWAKE AN HOUR EARLY!!!! But no fretts here, I just reccomend going to Beths. At this time, theres plenty of parking and HUGE breakfasts just calling for you. Good service, and the coffee is plentiful. Downside... the computer/cash register seems to be on the brink and you may be left standing there for another 15 minutes while the poor people start and restart it again; and the place's walls are filled with filthy-done at the table-drawings of some sort, of which look like they will fly off the wall at any second and hit your food. ICK. Huge portions, Good Coffee. Open all night. I think I'l bring my outta town guests here. If not to just shock them. read more

I go here a lot during the night for the pure novelty value that it's open 24/7. It's kinda fun to go in and people watch since there will be people their amazingly drunk or brain-numbingly high. I've eavesdropped on a ton of funny conversations (yeah so what), from business conversations at like 3 in the morning to people just gossiping. The food is okay, the omelets aren't really my thang, a little too greasy. I'm not sure how they make omelets greasy but whateva. I like me some bottomless hash browns though. And they aren't lame about giving you your hash browns. Like if you go in with someone and you aren't super hungry or you feel like mooching off of someone, I've seen them literally give you your own plate of hash browns. Their jam is super good. Be sure to use it! However, Beth's is a dirty, cramped and a little overpriced for okay food. read more

I am almost a little embarrassed to admit how much I really, really like this place. I mean, how can you not love a restaurant featured in Food Networks "Best Places to Pig Out". I was first introduced to Beth's when I was just visiting Seattle years ago, by a friend that treats it as his little freakshow for tourists. But I was immediately taken to it. Maybe it was that they were happy to hang my "Art" with no questions asked. Maybe it was the cute little obese family who ordered 4 six-egg omelette's for 2 adults and 2 children in the booth next door. I guess its a million things that make up for the inch of grime, the icky bathrooms, and the feeling of grease that comes with each meal. But I come here, and if they have time, I bring all out of towners here. read more

I have heard that Beth's Cafe was the place to go...for GOOD FOOD:) Unfortunately, NOT for GOOD SERVICE!!! On 1-13-2012, we did NOT even get to sit down before we were RUDELY and INCONSIDERATELY treated by the MALE HOST/female Hostess...which was totally UNWARRANTED! We did also wait 15 minutes to be seated and was treated POORLY by this MALE HOST/Server!!! So, we gave a $20 tip to the young man/busser who busted his buns to get our large table for eight ready...and then, LEFT!!! WE will NOT be back as long as the SERVICE is BAD!!! And, that RUDE male HOST or Server works there... GOOD FOOD or not... I would have given it a big "0" and no stars but system would ONLY allow me to give Beth's Cafe an "Eek! Methinks not" - 1 star... read more

Honestly, you don't go to Beth's for the food, unless you're looking to have a heart attack-sized omelette. While the food isn't bad (I'd actually rate it slightly above average; I never minded anything I ate), Beth's is definitely more about the atmosphere. (You also don't go to Beth's if you expect fast, polite, smiling service... that's not the atmosphere in any way.) Beth's is a place where you can sit for hours, where you can go at midnight and stay up drinking endless cups of coffee (unlimited refills for $1.95!), where you can people watch and secretly make fun of the hipsters or the motorcycle gangs with your friends. I've been to Beth's at LEAST 30 times, and I have no intention of ever stopping. read more

Love this place! It's open all the time which is perfect when I work nights sometimes. It's definitely divey but that's what makes it so great. It's a greasy spoon kind of joint but for traditional breakfasts and omelette items, it does the job. It's not the cleanest of places but it's a great spot overall for late night eats. They serve burgers and whatnot but I come here for breakfast. They are priced average for the quantities you are served. Most dishes offer all you can eat hash browns so it's perfect for the gluttonous side of me. It's a solid four star spot. It's not a five based on the little things that make it top notch. It's solid! read more

The place is the worst kind of dive. The staff is mean and rude, every surface is greasy and encrusted with filth, the food is more like swill for much-hated prisoners than food for customers of a neighborhood cafe -- everything is broken down and disgusting. They curse at customers, and not in a funny way. It's like being waited on by methadone clinic drop-outs and street thugs. I can't believe the health department lets this dive sell food to unsuspecting customers. I have never seen such filth and squalor outside of the Third World. You might as well dine in a porta-john as that dive. read more
