Ben's Bread is open from 8-3 daily, except on Wednesdays when they have Pizza Friends from 5:30-7:30pm

I haven't had Ben's bread yet. I know, I know, that's what this place is known for. But I will try their sourdough bread soon, I promise. What I have tried, three times already, is their pizza (called Pizza Friends and available only on Wednesdays from 5:30-7:30pm), and wow, it's now my favorite pizza in Seattle. Now, let me preface this with the fact that I dig thin crust, really crispy pizza. Ever since my hubs and I went to Italy during the first six months we knew each other back in 2008 and tried the super thin and crisp Roman pizza in Rome, we were hooked. We haven't been able to find a pizza we liked as much as the pizza we had there...until now. We order the Marinara every time. Just tomato sauce, thin sliced garlic, and amazing olive oil on a crispy, chewy sourdough crust. Bellisimo! So, if you like thick crust, or even medium crust that droops down, Ben's version might not be your bag, but for us, it's the Crown Jewel of pizza. In addition to the Marinara, there's also Cheese (available with or without sausage) and two seasonal flavors. Check out their Instagram feed every week to see what they're serving up. They also have a nice selection of desserts, a salad, and garlic knots. You can take your pizza to go, eat it at one of the outdoor tables in the shared patio, or have it at the wine bar or brewery tasting room next door. When you order, they will ask you where you'll be waiting, and then give you a number sign so they can find you. Just a tip to either arrive by 5:00pm to line up for the 5:30pm opening, or show up around 6:20pm. This week, we got there by 5pm, ordered by 5:35pm, and had our pizza by 5:50pm. The times we've shown up at 5:30pm, we've had to wait MUCH longer. Pizza is first come, first served, and they make 100 pies per night. The wait is worth it.

I finally made it to Ben's Bread after my friends recommended it. The bakery is on the corner of N 70th and Greenwood Ave. I went during the week and parking was a breeze, but parking on the weekends can be tough. The first time I went I got their breakfast sandwich, salted caramel chocolate cookie and their streusel cake. The egg sandwich is an English muffin with eggs and cheese. You can add bacon, but I wanted to try it without the extras. The English muffin tasted buttery soft with the egg and cheese. It was delicious! I will need to try it with the bacon next time. I tried the cookie next and it was sweet as I expected. The caramel is melted on top of the cookie. You get a taste of chocolate and caramel in one bite!! I tried the gooey streusel next. The streusel had a mixture of tart and a sweet crunchy base. The cranberries were a nice touch. I ate the cookie and streusel at home. I warmed up the streusel and it was delicious warm! I took my partner to try their weekend Brioche sandwich. We also got their Corn cookie. Expect longer lines on the weekends, but they do a nice job moving people along. We got the breakfast sandwich with sausage. You can also get the sandwich with greens. The sandwich tasted good. It comes out hot, so we had to be careful not to burn our tongue.(LOL) The Corn cookie is delicious! It has a unique flavor; eating a crunchy corn in a cookie - very creative!!! The place is small and narrow with limited seating indoors, but there are tables outside with heaters above. The staff is friendly and helpful in recommending items to try. I would return and try their breakfast sandwich with bacon.

Listen, when you cannot even get a chance to preorder for valentines because everything got taken so quickly, you know your on to something and can we please give a shout out to these guys for really being on it when it comes to replying to people on their Instagram account well done!! So yeah I didn't get to try any of the valentines anything and wow they looked so good but I did get my absolute fav donuts and a bunch of other goodies. Also their Egg Sandwich... always a winner

Their house made English muffins are absolutely amazing! I came with my family on a Monday morning and we all had the English muffin breakfast sandwich with ham and it was delicious! From the soufflé egg to the bread, we really enjoyed our meal! Also got myself a matcha oat milk latte with vanilla and it was quite tasty! We parked on the street and they have lots of nice outdoor tables that are shaded for seating. We also tried some of their cookies and other baked goods! We really liked the blue corn cookie and blue corn pound cake loaf! 10/10 will be back again for more English muffins!

If you can time it right and beat the sellouts, you're in for some great bread at Ben's Bread. I made a trip on a Wednesday morning and came away with a ham breakfast sandwich, blue corn cookie, pack of sourdough muffins, and the last seeded sourdough loaf, the special bread of the day. The breakfast sandwich was piping hot and simply prepared to let the ingredients shine. The souffléd egg is fluffy and well complimented by the ham. I wish I could sub the American for cheddar or another cheese, but that's ok. The sourdough muffin certainly stars. I'm looking forward to stuffing my four-pack with different jams. I'm looking forward to dipping my sourdough loaf in a rich tomato sauce or balsamic oil blend. I'm looking forward to trying more sweets, sandwiches, breads and local ingredients at Ben's, generally.

I've been a fan of Ben's Bread since their pop-up days! I was so happy when they opened their brick & mortar shop in Phinney and have been numerous times since opening. Everything I've had has been tasty, but I particularly love the savory brioche, breakfast sandwich, and English muffins. Also, love how they rotate flavors (for donuts/brioche, etc.) based on what's seasonal - the current savory brioche (tomato jalapeno) is incredible! I could eat that every day. They also offer specials on Fridays (lunch, usually, I think) and then they have pizza Wednesdays which I have yet to try, but want to. Lots of fun and delicious changes to their menu which keeps me coming back. The line can look long but it moves pretty quickly. Staff is friendly as well and they do have a rewards system which you can link to your credit card so during my last visit, I had accrued $5 off which was awesome! Love that they reward loyal customers :) As for seating, there are a few spots inside, otherwise, the other area is the shared courtyard outside (covered).

We visited Ben's Bread on a bustling Saturday afternoon. It's clearly a popular spot, with a constant stream of customers. The seating area is small, but it's primarily a grab-and-go place. We ordered a matcha latte and a chiffon cake, which was good but fairly standard. The jam inside was fruity and sour, and felt very homemade. The standout was the brunch breakfast sandwich. I liked the addition of sautéed kale, which provided an interesting texture. The breakfast potatoes were also excellent--well-flavored with a generous portion size, but the flavors are on the heavier side. The service was wonderful. Our server was friendly and patiently waited for us to decide. We loved the lively and friendly ambiance, with the bakers working in an open kitchen. The whole space is clean and bright.

Exceptional. I was drawn in after seeing their sandwiches pop up on instagram. They were followed by a lot of people I trusted so I knew I had to give them a try. The staff greeted me as I walked in and were very friendly and communicative as I decided what to order. Their baguettes are a bit on the harder side so if you're looking for a good jaw work out this is the place. Lucky for me I was. The sandwiches were great, but the real standout in my opinion was their chocolate chip cookie. I needed a nap after, but it was absolutely delicious. Also, I saw they do pizza pop ups sometimes and I am sad I won't be in town to attend as the pizza looks absolute delicious.

Food - got the pound cake and it was really good & huge. it had a lemony icing on top that was a good balance because the cake itself had a subtle taste & the icing was super tart but still sweet. super interested in these cheez isnts! will update once i try them. Service - very friendly once i got to the front & noticed one of the staff was working very hard to find out who ordered a breakfast sammy and never came to pick it up. got our orders pretty quickly but we opted out of the hot sandwiches & got pastries & drinks to go. Ambiance - holy crap this place is busy on a weekend morning! the line was out the door & around the corner. lots of dog lovers in line! inside seating, but everything was taken. outdoor seating, but it was a chilly morning so me & the husband took our pastries to go. but there is also a cute wine bar next door & a courtyard to hang out in on a nice day.

This is a low 4 star - high 3 star rating. I think my expectations was just too high given how popular this place, that it didn't really wow me. Came on a busy mother's Day morning and there was a line. It didn't take too long and I got 4 items: - chocolate bombolini (5/5) soft, light fluffy filling, great flavors. -key lime donut with matcha drizzle 4/5, didn't get any matcha flavor but otherwise, pretty good -blue corn cookie --- 3.5/5 love the texture, not sure what blue corn supposed to taste like but it seems like a regular cookie Rhubarb pie 3.5/5 crust was good, love the sweet crumble to balance the tart filling, the little cream on top didn't do anything though Kim chi Danish 3/5 -- very dense compare to other pastries, Kim chi was subtle. Overall everything was good, just not amazing

3.5 Stars. Food enjoyment easily 4 Stars. Quality for the most part, very nice. Robust, girthy, baked goods. Sourdough English muffin great to take home and heat in your expensive toaster oven. Coffee is delicious. The breakfast sandwich was not all that, it was a letdown. Big negative is how expensive things get quickly. A 4 pack of sourdough bread, Brioche Breakfast sandwich, 2 baked goods, and Large Vanilla Latte turned out to be $44 tip included. Yes, made multiple special trips from "afar" to come here, yes its good, but a bit price prohibitive. I'm not hating though, good for them, get your money, business is good, long lines that move decently.

I love the weekday breakfast sandwich at Ben's Bread. It is such a quintessential breakfast sandwich, soft scrambled eggs, thick cut bacon, and American cheese on a homemade English muffin. All the good elements of a nostalgic breakfast sandwich, but with high quality ingredients. We went on a Friday morning around 8:45am. There were a few people in line, but it moved fast. The breakfast sandwich and latte came out about 5 minutes after we ordered. The pricing for the breakfast sandwich is pretty reasonable too, $7 is the base price and then an additional $3.5 to add bacon. But definitely add the bacon, so worth it!! Also, beware the breakfast sandwich on the weekends is different, it's a little fancier and not as nostalgic. Ben's Bread is a tiny little bakery with only a couple indoor tables, but on a weekday it's fun to snag a table and watch the hustle and bustle of the bakers behind the counter. Overall, the weekday breakfast sandwich is my favorite Ben's Bread offering!

Blue corn cookie

My friends and I stumbled across this place and had heard some positive things about it, so decided to give it a try! We got the blue corn cookie and the kimchi bread. I liked the corn cookie a lot - crispy edges but chewy still, and a good corn flavor. It reminded me of a smaller version of the crumbl cornbread cookie! My friends also loved the kimchi bread and raved about it. Definitely worth a try! There is seating outdoors.

I originally planned to just grab a coffee and a croissant, but after noticing how popular the mushroom Gruyere croissant seemed, I decided to give it a try and I'm so glad I did. It was incredibly delicious, perfectly filling, and even better when warmed up. The staff member kindly offered to heat it for me, which really elevated the whole experience. While they serve Umbria coffee, which isn't my personal favorite, the food more than made up for it. The service was warm and friendly, and the overall vibe was welcoming. I'll definitely be back to try the mushroom croissant again or maybe explore some of their other pastries next time.

Like everything else, this was incredibly overpriced. The only disappointment was that I would rather order a banh mí from an authentic Vietnamese restaurant than a French bakery (yes, I know about the colonialism involved).

Through several visits: Baguette, Large ($7.95) - Great baguette with bubbling golden exterior complete with the perfectly baked crust even after waiting 3 hours before cutting in and eating. The interior has the perfect moisture level and is delightfully soft and chewy. The taste overall has a deep developed flavor. This is a great baguette. The only problem - the price. I can find ones for half the price that are maybe 80% as good as this one. (5/5) Seasonal Biscuit ($4.50) - This biscuit definitely isn't Southern-style. It's more of a drop biscuit, combining a relatively soft and tender interior with a nice exterior crust, without any flakiness or layering. The interior is almost cake-like in texture and crumb, and is plenty moist. They add plenty of fresh black pepper inside. It's distributed very evenly, giving a peppery bite with every mouthful. Parmesan is added to the top of the biscuit before baking, giving plenty of umami and richness but only on the upper layer. (4/5) Green Vinaigrette Cafeteria Style Pizza ($6.25) - The pizza is kept under a warming lamp, so it starts getting a little dried out after I assume a couple of hours spent there. I do love the base though - it's focaccia-like giving a really crunchy dark golden brown crust underneath, which supports the toppings. The pizza slice has lots of structural integrity and doesn't flop over. There's a base of fragrant concentrated tomato paste-like flavor which is topped with a very even layer of cheese. Since it's warmed rather than freshly baked, the cheese starts congealing a bit. The cheese is peppered with parsley, garlic, and a bunch of mustard seeds, giving a special zing. The toppings go all the way to the sides of the pie, making it great for people who dislike crust. Even though it's cafeteria style pizza that's kept under heat lamps, I quite liked it. I wonder if I can get a really fresh slice if I get there right at 11AM when lunch starts. (5/5) Chocolate Croissant ($6.10) - Great lamination with a very aesthetic honeycomb pattern. Baked on the harder side, causing fantastic crispy flaky layers to flake off, but also creating a darker golden brown character that is on the verge of bitterness. Nicely buttery soft and chewy interior. Chocolate is a darker variety, probably somewhere around 70%, so it has a pleasing balanced sweetness and chocolate flavor. It's not typical baton, instead seems to be a section from a bar. Still warm and melty even through I didn't eat the croissant until ~30 minutes after purchasing. When cooled down further, some red fruity notes start appearing, so this seems to be be pretty high quality. (5/5) White Sourdough ($12.60) - Now this is a loaf of bread. Superb crust, probably 2 or 3 times as thick compared to competitors, creating a supreme crusty bite with a chew approaching a hard crunch with almost caramelized molasses notes on the bottom. The interior is moist and tender with a pleasing slight sourdough tang. It's a superb piece of craftsmanship. (5/5) Kouign Amann ($5.80) - This is another heavier bake with some acridity development on the top surface. Unlike many other bakeries where the kouign amann is basically a differently shaped croissant with sugar glaze, Sea Wolf's version feels more in line with tradition. The crumb is denser and richer, more like brioche. There's interesting black speckling inside which I believe is due to the inclusion of espresso powder given the mild coffee-like flavor. The crust is again baked hard, but it's lighter and not as flaky as the croissant. They sprinkle just a bit of salt on top of a very light caramelized sugar glaze. It's not very sweet and I didn't find it too salty unlike some other reviewers. (5/5) Plain Focaccia Slice ($4.80) - Good quality olive oil, some salt sprinkled on top to boost the flavors. Light and airy interior, but the exterior is a little wan, being more light golden brown and lacking some good crusty crisp especially on the fried bottom. Quite oily. (4/5) Sea Wolf gives out free sourdough starter, which can be requested from the cashier. Since picking it up several weeks ago, I've gone through several feed/bake cycles for making sourdough focaccia. I've visited Sea Wolf 3 or 4 times in the last month. That's a testament to how high quality their pastries and breads are. I think the only thing stopping me from visiting more is thanks to the starter I got from them fanning my baking instincts. I bake so much now that I don't have any need to buy their bread! Note: Sea Wolf charges a 3% credit card fee. This is not noted on their menu - it only appears in the POS right before paying. Kind of sketchy. Bathrooms - Single unisex room

The kitchen is open, so you can watch as all of the scrumptious pastries are made. I liked the vibe here a lot. The space is shared with a bagel shop, but there is plenty of room for everyone. Service was fine. The line moved fast, and the prices were reasonable, comparable to other bakeries in Seattle. While I enjoyed the vibe at Sea Wolf Bakers a lot, I didn't think their pastries and coffee were nearly as good as some others I tried in Seattle. The espresso shot I tried was extremely bitter and just not as smooth as it should have been. The savory croissant was ok, but it lacked any big flavors, and the texture wasn't really croissant-like. The hit cross bun was just unimpressive and not very good at all. Overall, I would probably skip Sea Wolf Bakers next time. It's ok, but there are so many other amazing bakeries too. Maybe I tried the wrong stuff?

The hojicha latte was rich and earthy in the best way, and it went really well with the black sesame cookie, which had a great strong sesame flavor, and the texture was perfectly chewy! The focaccia was pillowy and chewy at the same - I could've eaten five of these on their own. The frittata was my least favorite item, but by no means am I saying that it's bad! I really was looking forward to trying a cardamom croissant or bun but they didn't have either available. My iced latte was alright. Nothing to go crazy over. The cherry foam for an additional $2.00 was very pretty but that's where it stopped at. Absolutely no cherry or sakura flavor. Disappointed. The sesame cookie had a great smell to it. The aroma of sesame was strong. The cookie had a nice crisp to the edge and a chewy center. The sesame taste wasn't as strong as the smell. The spicy chicken sandwich on special was not spicy at all. It was overwhelmingly sweet from the orange glaze/sauce on the kitchen. It was a decent sandwich and I definitely finished it. Just not something I would gravitate back to. I understand the reviews about how this place doesn't live up to some extra hype. It's decent, solid and a great option for the area but to go out of your way for and wait thirty minutes in line? Not really.
