Benevento has such an amazing menu. It is so extensive and everything is great. I always get the eggplant rotini and the shrimp Grand Marnier as appetizers. The chicken Benevento is terrific and my husband always gets the chicken and eggplant Parm. They also have these dishes next-door at their sister restaurant Al Dente. The staff is excellent and very attentive, the doorman Michael tries to get you in as soon as he can. The owner Joe is very friendly. The inside has a trendy great look with neat lamps and a darker looking interior. Went to my favorite restaurant last night. We went there for our 35 wedding anniversary the food is so consistent great food. Just out standing. The owner Joe is great he bought us a martini each and a free piece of cake. One of the best restaurants in the northend of Boston. You have to go. I can eat there every week. Make reservations in advance! There was a line down the block. Although we had reservations we did get seated about 30 mins after our arrival time, a good hack is to go to the bar for a drink to wait in line! The food was fantastic here and very fresh. I recommend any of their seafood apps. We got the spinach crepe, the calamari and the mussels marinara. Entrees included frutti du mar and chicken saltimbucca. I came here with a friend and unfortunately it was nothing special/memorable. Bread was bland and cold, and food was mediocre. I ordered arrabiata and it was good, but nothing amazing. There were little jalapeños in the sauce, but it wasn't very spicy. Service was a bit slow, but ultimately fine. I asked if my dish came with meat since I'm vegetarian and the waitress just stared at me and went back to writing on her pad. I asked again and she nodded her head and then walked away. This restaurant is on the side street which can be easily passed but I doubt it with long lines of patrons who want to dine here. Parking is very hectic and hard to come by so expect to wear comfortable walking shoes to park blocks away so you won't get towed. You will need to make reservations in order to dine here. Walk ins is very rare. They have a hostess waiting for you to check in at the door. So no one is getting in without a reservation. The restaurant is a very small place and you are almost sitting on top of each other. There is no room for social distance in this establishment. The food here is impeccable!! I never had a lobster pasta dish like this before! The waitress was good and attentive. The lemon drop was delicious too. I can't wait to come back and get the Lobster pasta again!! Have to say the ambiance here loud. Our table was next to dish station and the worker crashed them down each time. When the servers prepared the table next to us they flung the dishes around in a similar fashion. We got lunch here today with family for a belated birthday celebration and we made the perfect pick. Everything was amazing! I ordered the lobster ravioli with a homemade meatball on the side and as soon as I took my first bite, it was hard to stop because of how good it was. The vodka sauce for the ravioli was phenomenal and once my ravioli was gone, I kept eating the sauce with pieces of bread. Don't judge me...you might do the same once trying it. The food was fine - the service was AWFUL! We were sat in the darkest dingy corner of the restaurant- requiring a phone light to even read the menu. We were seated well after our reservation. Our server came by to take our drink order and then 15 minutes later for food. Very simple order - salad and 3 entrees. Entrees arrive - served by someone else and I inquire on where our salad is. Response in a very snotty tone - "I'm not your server. if it's done do you want me to box it?" Uh - no, we anticipated it would have arrived prior to our meal. Just please remove from our check then. Our server never once returned to fill our water glasses, offer any fresh cheese for our entrées, see if we needed anything nor asked if everything was ok. Server = Heather Not sure I'd come back. This place is AMAZING. Benevento's is always one of the top contenders for my business when I go to the North End of Boston! The layout of this place is pretty average and the staff are nice, but where this place really shines through is when it comes to the food and price. You can go in here confident with getting a good meal for $15 or under and it is for sure one of the less-expensive places in the North End if your looking to dine around there. In terms of the food, I have never been let-down on the various occasions I have come to Benevento's. I usually go for the pasta but have tried their pizza before and it is of high quality than your average pizza place. The pasta, on the other hand, is some of the best I have found in the North End. Whether it's alfredo, marinara, or even arabiatta, Benevento's always shines through with great pasta. It's also worth mentioning they have many gluten-free options if you have an allergy! I think it might be a few bucks more (correct me if I'm wrong), but it is worth a try for you celiacs out there. read more

A decent find in the North End. I came here on a Thursday night with a party of 7 and we were seated quickly without a reservation.  TIP: whatever pasta sauce you order can be served with any noodle type. The gnocchi, ravioli, and fusilli are made in house from scratch. Many people in our party chose one of these with their pasta sauce, but beware there is a $7 up charge. Our waiter didn't notify us of this which was frustrating. We started with the fried calamari. Key main dishes from the night include the carbonara, lobster ravioli, and short rib truffle rigatoni. The pesto was good but VERY VERY oily. They have an extensive wine menu and it's worth splitting a bottle if you're with a larger party. The serving sizes are large and the food comes out hot. However, it is a bit pricey compared to what you can get at other restaurants in the North End. read more

My friends and I came here looking for yet another north end pasta treat and it did not disappoint! I got the appetizer portion of the lobster ravioli and it was delicious!! The dish had large chunks of lobster meat both inside the raviolis and within the sauce, and was filling without being too heavy (as i find many other lobster pastas often are.) My only complaint was that the bread they brought was slightly hard and cold. All of the indoor tables had plastic dividers between them making us feel safe and comfortable in the smaller front part of the restaurant. The service was very quick and attentive to our table. I had seen reviews about people waiting out in the cold, even with reservations, which scared me a bit. We had a reservation for 7:00 and did have to wait for 5 minutes or so but not bad at all! I think this was just an effort to prevent crowding inside the restaurant while they made sure our table was ready. Overall I was very happy with this experience and definitely already want to go back and try some of their pizzas, which also looked fantastic! read more

I'm a fan of the food but I might not return unless for special occasions. Benevento's is a pretty trendy Italian restaurant in the heart of North End. To say the least, they're pricey. Their waitstaff is kind-of mediocre and their hostess was curt, rude, and had a tinge of pretentious. Our very first impression of the place was being asked, "What's your name?" Clearly, you must have needed reservations to eat at the place that night (We don't remember when we ate out that week. It must've been an weekend evening.). No "Welcome to Benevento's," "Hi, how can I help you?" or any of that jazz. I can only assume that they were getting pretty busy that night and she was stressed - who knows. I told her my name and then she asked (in a pretty exasperated tone), "No, I need your first name." This was a pretty odd situation because usually restaurants ask for your last name. I just happened to already give her my first name instead of my last - she just wasn't looking for it; I told her again and she just said, "Oh." Overall, it wasn't a pleasant first experience. We got shuffled out of the street and rushed to our table. We ordered a pizza and I got chicken parm. I loved the food, it was awesome and that definitely alleviated any stress from our previous encounter with the people running the floor. The cost for each meal was kind of expensive but everything was definitely a treat. Though I want to recommend this place to others, I find it a bit hard because of my first experience with it and how I was approached by the people working there. My family have always enjoyed Benevento's over the years. But our last visit on NY Eve was disappointing as I left a cash tip of over 20% but when I received my credit card statement, an additional $50 tip was added to my charge. I have called twice and e-mailed twice and am being told that the owner needs to look through the envelopes in the back room and to call back. I was also told that this is a common practice for the "girls to add a tip on the credit card and then review and fix it at the end of the night." Anyone who frequents restaurants or has ever worked in one knows that this practice of theirs is wrong and makes no sense. So I will have to resolve the issue with my credit card company. But what bothers me is not the $50, but the fact that I am sure we were not the only party that night that had additional tips added onto their cards. It was a busy New Year's eve and how many people miss this on their credit card statement. I am also disappointed with the lack of concern on the part of Benevento' with respect of trying to help me resolve this. This is the only place I've been able find a vodka pie outside of NYC and it's delicious - order a side of extra vodka sauce to dip the pizza in and you won't be sorry.
