I have been wanting to come to this place for years but I live on the other end of the Boston city limits and only venture to East Boston for the airport. some dear friends and I agreed to give it a try when the weather permitted and it was well worth it. We had the meat lover's pie and oh my. Wgat a delicious fusion animals, cheese, tomatoes and crust. The taste took me back to a pizza I had many years ago at a place in Cambridge--in a great way! They only sell whole pies, which at first seemed annoying (the first time I tried coming here a few years ago I was by myself and couldn't eat a whole pizza alone) so I had to make this my inaugural tasting). But I see that as ensuring you are only eating a fresh product, where all the ingredients cook into each other and come out hot and ready, instead or something reheated from four hours ago because the day was slow. The menu is simple: pizzas and meat skewers. They know what they do well and lean into it hard. The ambiance has a rustic feel, with tall, weathered wooden booths that make eating a close experience, so please bring people you really like! The servers are present but not hovering and checked on us with the kind of frequency that says, "yeah we should let you eat but not forget you are there." I will be back for sure. read more

This is an authentic, no frills neighborhood joint. The place was busy on a rainy Sunday with families and friends. There's something nostalgic about it. The steak tips and lamb tips were cooked very well, juicy and tender though lacking salt and seasoning. Sausage was good, a bit spicy. I didn't understand the addition of the bread, it was dry and there was no butter or olive oil to go with it. Portions were ok for the price. Pizza was ok, not my kind of pizza, the crust is very thin and cracker like, it doesn't hold up under additional toppings. Flavor of sauce and toppings was good, toppings were also generous. Too much tomatoes and cheese, not enough other stuff When I complained to the waitress, to her credit, she admitted it looked wet and suggested it was coming from the vegetables. They really need to adjust their recipe. In the meantime, I ordered a cheese pizza at her suggestion, to take home, and she gave me a nice discount. When I got home, the wife and I heated it up, and it was fine. David Portnoy gives them an 8.2 for that pizza, I would say 8.0 Certainly not the best in Boston anymore, but decent. Guys. Idk what to tell you. Best pizza in the world and I'd die on that hill. Plus the freaking lamb skewers and fresh bread, seriously no words. My boyfriend has been coming to Santarpio's since he was a kid, so it's a special place and I was excited to get to share that nostalgia with him. We ordered his favorites. First, a single sausage skewer served with hot cherry peppers and fresh baked Italian bread. Then we split a cheese pizza. The sausages were juicy and huge, plus the bread was delicious. I enjoyed the peppers but they were spicy so I didn't eat all of them. Now the pizza, its great! The cheese, sauce, crust--all super fresh. If a place makes cheese pizza well, it's a good indicator of how well the rest will be. Let's just say they passed the test. It's not a huge pie but if you order the sausage or another appetizer, you'll be fine. We did have to wait for a table but we didn't wait too long. This place gets packed so be prepared to wait! Santarpios is also full of charm. It has an old school vibe and feels cozy. I was glad to share this experience with my boyfriend in one of his childhood spots! read more

Ok I'm not going to add anything here that hasn't been said so I'll share a funny share from my most recent trip this weekend to the Tarpp ..( as far as a review positively everything was marvelous, scrumptious and our service was perfect !!! ) We ordered our roni with skewers and while we are downing our drinks a young woman was sat nearby us - she arrived aline with a suitcase fresh off a plane at Logan and like anyone traveling - probably starving. I remember thinking - she's in for a treat if she doesn't already know about this legendary locale. When our serve returns to her she asked soooo politely "is there another menu?" And in the nicest way I the server was like " oh honey it's all pizza and some kabobs ! " She fiddled for a moment before ordering a single chicken skewer and a glass of water . Well, when you're in Boston, you have to go to the pizza institution. That is the best pizza in all of Boston. There's so much good pizza here, but this place is over the top and has been for 100 years. My second favorite pizza restaurant in the United States my first is John Bleecker in New York. Just does a lot of local business and you gotta love the people that work there I miss all the old men when I used to go there when I was young and they yelled at me and I thought it was pretty funny. The beef tips were cooked right, medium, and seasoned well. They were better than I'd thought they'd be at a pizza place. The pizza we ordered was a double pepperoni with extra sauce. It came out great. Crust was perfect, and the pepperoni was crispy around the edges, which is how we like it. The sauce is on the sweet side, which balances well against the salty pepperoni. Food's quality has gone down a bit, maybe 3/5 at best. However this review is about the reoccurring behavior with a waitress there. My family's Hispanic and for the past couple of times we've gone back to Santarpio's we have had a new incident of blatant rudeness. Unfortunately I don't know her name but she will be openly rude to us the whole time, throwing our food down on the table to make a point I suppose and even carelessly spilled water from the drink tray directly on top of one of us when giving us our drinks. Along with either ignoring us or giving us dirty looks the whole time we were there even if she wasn't our waitress for the meal. The vibe in East Boston is fantastic, and the service is excellent! I highly recommend trying the single lamb skewers with sausage--they were amazing! As for the Italian cheese pizza topped with pepperoni, garlic, hot peppers, add sausage, I'd rate it a 7/10. First: this is a dive bar, and you'll want to be patient with the service especially when they're packed (eg go stand up and get your own menus if you've been waiting a few minutes, no one here will mind). Food: Steak tips here are awesome (though I salt mine at the table) and you should order them - ask for medium rare - you'll get served super juicy, smoky meat kabobs that were cooked over charcoal. The tips also come with a chunk of bread with a nice crust and some cherry peppers to spice up the kabobs. I also like to dip some of my steak tip bites into Parmesan. There were two of us and we each got an order of steak tips PLUS a pizza (cheese, garlic, and then pepperoni on half) -- the pizza crust was nice - parts were crisp and other parts were super dense and chewy (lots and lots of gluten) with some nice char/burn. Cheese could have been a bit more stretchy/stringy for me but it all hit the spot! 3 seating areas to choose from: Bar or Restaurant - and then on the restaurant side again pick from more dimly lit booths adjacent to the bar or a brightly lit room with tables and chairs. read more

Dined here for dinner and thought it was a very Bostonian experience in that the people running this spot were very hospitable and quite frankly -- honest. There was no 'fluff' -- what you see is what you get. Our server who was also the bartender shared that he has been around Santarpio's before he had teeth (not related to the owner) so that tells you how family oriented this establishment is. As soon as we sat down, he offered us menus and some water. We ended up ordering the steak tips to share which was accompanied by complimentary bread and pickled bell peppers. For our pizza, we chose the Sausage and Garlic as recommended (well done, of course). Steak tips were a bit on the bland side but I think that allows patrons to adjust the seasoning to a preference without having to compromise a "one size fits all" deal. The pizza was good. We didn't finish it and took a few slices ToGo. Overall, the experience was positive. Good food, good vibes, and a well kept place with a lot of preserved history. P.S. I didn't catch the whole story from other regulars who we befriended while dining there, but I will say the photos on the wall depict a deeper root of this spot within the Boston community. Heard different opinions about this place, some say it's overrated and some said it was great. Verdict to me was that their pizza was just as good as some of the best pizzas in NYC. Grilled steak tips and chicken were phenomenal not to mention their pepper was super tasty (spicy and sweet). It was great celebrating Sgt. Major (USMC) retirement dinner here. Ordered through their website. Screw these guys! Guy at the shop didn't hand their door dash delivery guy my steak skewer. I called to rectify and it became my issue to handle. I asked to speak to a manager. I was told there was no manager. I asked if he was the owner and he HUNG UP ON ME! Then I called back he wouldn't answer. I consider myself somewhat of a pizza connoisseur, just love the stuff. I've eaten pizza in NY, Chicago, Italy, all over California, and at numerous places in Nashville (Nashville actually has a lot of great pizza joints) and other cities. I'd have to rate this place as one of the top 5 best pizzas I've ever had. We ordered a sausage, garlic and hot pepper pizza. Everything was perfect, the crust was firm and crispy, the sauce was delicious and the hot peppers added a little bit of snap to the pizza. This is the type of pizza where you can grab a slice, give it a slight curve which supports the slice and eat away without the toppings sliding off. Every time I took a bite of the pizza I kept saying "this is some damn good pizza". We also ordered a skewer of lamb kabob which was delicious: very flavorful and very tender. If you want some old school delicious pizza and kabobs, I'd highly recommend this place. read more

Mark Wiens went here and ofc after the old grannies in his video said this was the best pizza they had-- I decided that this pizza place is probably worth a try We ventured to east Boston just to try this place out and it was definitely a no frills, local joint. I have to say I liked this pizza WAY more than the one I tried at Regina's. Reginas was a could not even compare and is worlds apart from Santarpios and the customer service is awful and brusque at Regina's. If you like pizza that is saucy then you'll like this pizza. Best f'n pizza in Metro Boston since I was a little kid in the 1980s! I have been coming here forever. I love the laid back atmosphere. I love the no nonsense Boston tough servers. It's East Boston after all. I have eaten pizza hundreds of places in my lifetime, Santarpio's is the best. Also, I always order a double lamb skewer. It's a big order, I share it with my kids. I love their lamb skewers. I always get a garlic and sausage pizza. When I have to fly out of Logan Airport for work, I always try to schedule my return flight so Santarpio's is open for dinner when I get home.
