I do not understand all of these amazing reviews! I'm giving three stars and I feel that is very generous based on my experience and because they are new, so I'll cut them a little slack. First off, the service is extremely slow. After having been seated for quite a while, we had to flag down our server to place our order. We ordered 2 orders of pork soup dumplings for the table as an appetizer and it took 45 minutes to get them! We ordered a green onion pancake at the same time and it didn't come out for another 15 minutes. Also, the picture of the green onion pancake on the menu shows it being served with a bowl of sauce on a platter. When no sauce came with the pancake, I asked for it and she says we don't have any. It never comes with anything, just plain. Well, do you have anything to offer that we could dip it in? We were willing to pay for a sauce. She said no. Well that's misrepresentation right off the bat especially since there are no descriptions, only pictures on the menu. It appears they only had two servers for the entire place. It was not busy when we got there, but it was busier when we left, 2 hours later! Onto the food. The pork soup dumplings were cold. Based on the length of time it took to get them, I feel they must have been sitting there waiting to be delivered for a good while. Not only were they cold but they had zero flavor. My expectations were not overly high and they still failed. The green scallion pancakes were very doughy and did not seem cooked through. We also ordered the spicy chicken entrée for the table. Portion size was good. That's where the good stops. Again, the chicken was cold. It was also hard and dry and had a very funny flavor. We all agreed it didn't taste like the chicken was off, but that the seasoning was just awful. Also, because they do not put descriptions of the dishes on the menu, just pictures you could not tell that this chicken was fried. We thought it would be sautéed like all of the other spicy chicken dishes the three of us had elsewhere before. We probably left 75 to 80% of it plus a whole order of soup dumplings and were not even offered a box, which we would have declined but you would think with that much food left it would at least be offered. We sooo wanted to like this Chinese restaurant as there really are not any in South Austin to get excited about. The menu is large with a lot of nice offerings, too bad they couldn't deliver good food, and good service. The ambience was meh. Very plain. And the plates they give you to serve from the entrée platter are the size of small, saucers, way too small to accommodate anything without getting food on the table. They do have one smallish TV on a wall and it is lopsided and this restaurant just opened. I hope they get it together and do better. South Austin needs a good go to Chinese restaurant! Was so excited to see a dumpling place so close to my stomping ground. Cool interior on a hot day was a nice touch. Waitress very attentive and brought a carafe of ice water so we wouldn't run out. Best won-ton chili oil in Austin. H&S soup very enjoyable (best was old Din Ho up North). Scallion pancakes Were nice and crispy. Last dish was dry pot cabbage which I had not had before. I am a big fan. So happy that a dumpling place finally opened on the southside of town...even if it is way west. Until now, we would have to drive to Cedar Park any time we wanted reasonably priced Dumplings (Ling Wu is very good too, also west, like southwest pkwy west, and pricier for sure) They will come and take your order, but only have like 2 servers (as far as I can tell) so there is a QR code on the table and you can order directly that way. They use the ChowNow App. I love the selection of dumplings/potstickers/dim sum. I don't eat pork or shrimp, so I love that they have Beef, Chicken and Veggie options. I got the Chicken Pot stickers 2 days in a row, they are delicious They have slightly less entrée options, you won't find an extensive list of chicken entrees, but I did try the orange chicken and I really liked it. I have also tried the mongolian beef. That was good, but I like my beef slightly crispier, but it was still good. The garlic string beans are awesome, maybe my favorite dish that I tried there. Unfortunately the same dish with broccoli, I found the broccoli to be a little undercooked, and there wasn't enough sauce and the water that came out of the broccoli only made the sauce even thinner/watery. I think it could be a great dish with just some minor adjustments. I also got their crispy tofu. It didn't mention it would be spicy, and it was definitely spicy. I would get it again if I could get it less spicy, but I love that the tofu pieces are cut small so they get a good coating of batter and get crispy. The waitress said that their should have been an option for me to pick "mild" but I didn't see it on the app, so maybe for this particular dish, I will order it through the server. They close at 9:30 and are closed on Tuesdays. I am hoping that eventually they will be so busy they start staying open later. I am definitely going to be a regular here. read more

As a former patron of the old Hao Hao Asian restaurant I was curious to check out this new restaurant that just showed up in its place. Checking out their menu online seeing they offered my fave dish Mapo Tofu just enhanced my anticipation. The menu is full of the usual suspects, lots of noodle dishes that looked pretty interesting and of course, a trio of dumpling offerings - Potstickers, Steamed Dumplings and Soup Dumplings. We arrived only a few days after they officially opened so I wasn't surprised to see just a few tables occupied at first however by the time we left the place was quite busy. The staff is friendly, the place is clean and you can see into the area where they form the dumplings which is a nice touch. Looking at the high gloss menus I got the impression that this may be part of a chain and I did find other restaurants with the same name scattered around during a web search. OK...the food. The Mapo Tofu was excellent with just the right amount of "tingle" from the Szechuan Peppercorns, it came with a side of steamed rice. I've ordered this dish in many ATX Asian restaurants and their version is up there among my favorites. The Pork Soup Dumplings were bite-sized and filled with tasty pork and broth and were most enjoyable, they were offered up in a bamboo steam tray. My friend's Fried Calamari was tasty but kinda chewy, not entirely unusual for that dish. So I was pretty happy with the taste and quality of the foods we ordered. However...I found the portions to be smaller than expected which was kinda disappointing. After finishing my Mapo Tofu and rice plus half of the Soup Dumplings I was still kinda hungry, and I hate leaving a restaurant feeling unsatisfied. The soup dumplings are truly "one bite" in size but again, very tasty. I'm sure I will return, it's great to have seriously good Mapo Tofu so close to home, the drive up to Jollyville for my fave Mapo is a bit much these days. I would encourage One Bite Dumpling to offer more substantial portions but the quality overall was quite good. I look forward to trying some noodle dishes next time. read more

I went here with a friend 2 weeks ago and was extremely disappointed. This location used to be Hao Hao, which had excellent Chinese & Vietnamese food with excellent service. My friend ordered the pork buns as well as the seafood dumplings and I ordered the chicken and corn dumplings. My friends pork buns came out first. There was more breading than there was meat. It was not tasty at all. Something else but of dumplings arrived long before my friend's order, which is not good service. She just set the plate down and took off. We didn't even know if the dumplings were for me or for her. The presentation was not good and when I summoned the waitress, she didn't know which dumplings they were. Usually dumplings come with a little dish for soy sauce And no dish was provided. I had to ask for one and then go ahead and dive in to see if they were my dumplings. They were. I do believe they were about the worst dumplings I've ever tasted. When the waitress finally returned and saw that I had barely touched my food, she asked me if everything was OK. I told her no. To their credit, she did offer to replace it with a different item, but after trying the pork buns, I told her no thanks. She did not offer to refund me even though I only had one out of the 10 dumplings but did offer ice cream. I will admit that was the one thing I liked. She also provided ice cream for my friend. My friend and I will not return. Also, it took forever for the waitress to come back to give us our check. I miss the service and food that I got when it was Hao Hao. read more

Finally we have some good dim sum in town! Beef chowmein is a 5, I love the crunchiness of the veggies and taste is yummy, a little salty but not, just right. Beef green onion dumpling it's good but I don't taste the green onion.. so it's a 4, wonton in chili sauce is a 4, waiting for pork soup dumpling, green onion pancake, all very good, however my jasmine Tea is warm not hot, however they fixed it right away. Although this place is listed here on Yelp as Bee Dumpling it's actually One Bee Dumpling. As soon as we walked in there was a very strong odor. Just hits you in the face. We ordered egg rolls as an appetizer. My husband had sweet/sour pork. I had the beef noodle clear soup. There's a white sliced vegetable in the soup. I asked one of the servers what it was. She replied a type of potato. I looked it up and it's daikon radish. (picture attached) Don't ask for salt/pepper or lime. They don't have any of those items. We loved the atmosphere and everyone was so welcoming which can be awkward going to a new restaurant. The beef Udon was my favorite while the pot stickers were my boyfriend's favorite. The beef role was recommended and it did not disappoint, it was sweet and savory and you can add spice with the chile oil. This place is AWESOME! We have been here twice in a week. The food is tasty and the restaurant is clean, service is friendly! My only complaints are that the orange chicken shows not spicy but shows up with peppers in it, I wouldn't typically send it back but it was for my 9yr old and he wouldn't have eaten it spicy. I would've kept it had it been for myself. Also, the flies! They're everywhere, I know they can only control them so much. But I spent my meal swatting them away which was unfortunate. Uh-oh... I was WRONG!! 'Took two friends to dine in at 3pm yesterday and it was a dismal experience. Wait staff are unfriendly and RUDE. The hot and sour soup was the highlight. Noodles w/shrimp was overpowered by bell peppers and lacked flavor. Green onion pancake does not come with any sauce and was just ok. Beef roll, same. Bbq pork bun was lackluster and as we were leaving we saw that they were steamed from frozen. Horribly disappointing experience. This restaurant needs to be half the size it is or less given the staff and speed of food coming out. I'm not sure if I came on an off day where they were short staffed but what I'm observing is the very opposite of fast. On top of that, I think I'm the only Asian person here in the HOUR THAT I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR MY ORDER TO BE COMPLETED. I feel like this restaurant doesn't know what it wants to be as I'm eating Chinese food and K-pop music wafts through the speakers. It's frankly kind of confusing. Anyone that reads through my reviews understands that value is of utmost importance to me and the ultimate question of this inquires what acts as the primary driver for the owner to operate a restaurant? Is this a cash grab or is there a genuine passion for food? That is the primary question I always seek to answer. Let's start with the good: - The chili oil is actually decent and they provide a healthy amount. - the clear broth noodle soup is very good. That's about it. Whoooboy. Let's get into it. Here's the bad: - The staff do not move with the urgency I would expect from people who know what they're doing. Water cups are left empty, inside the restaurant is uncomfortably hot and humid. -here's the biggest sin: food is coming out practically cool to the touch as opposed to hot leading me to believe that much of their dumpling food is prepared not to order but based on anticipation and then kept on warmers so as to not overcook and burst. When we ordered XLB, it was the first to come out but in less than 5 minutes, which is quite surprising and it typically takes a minimum of 7-9 minutes of cook time. When biting into, it was basically lukewarm soup that came out which not what it's supposed to be. And don't get me started on the wrapper consistency. Thin in certain places, thick like pancakes in others. Not at all a great experience. As of this writing I had waiting a literal 1 hr and 20 minutes for my order of beef rolls and it still wasn't on its way. It was "being worked on", the same status as 20 minutes prior. For those who don't know, assuming that the dough is prepped, it takes approximately 10 minutes to make as your mise en place should already be set to make a quick assembly and cook. As a comparison, Julie's Noodles which is 10x busier than this place can pop out an order of beef rolls in about 20 minutes from order submission to food hitting the table. While the food is generally what I expect in terms of taste, this is what I would expect to be sitting in my fridge coming home late from work. Down to the temperature. In fact that's exactly what this food reminds me of: reheated home cooked dinner. And that's fine for home. But restaurant? No. This smells, tastes, and feels like a home cook who thought that they could do this for a living and decided to open a restaurant. That might be endearing for some, but this is not worth the time, inconsistent quality, lack of urgency on the staff's part, and most of all, not worth my money. I would rather go to Dumpling World or Julie's Noodles. I'm very disappointed and sad that a place that would serve food that is so desperately desired here in South Austin has delivered such a lackluster and poor experience so early into its tenure. Oh and beef rolls were delivered finally....but to a table that sat down 30 min after me. TLDR: not a place that respects your time and money. If you're going to eat this food, you're better off ordering to go. But really, go somewhere else. 2 stars. Awarded only by chili oil and good broth. Edit: I gave up. I asked for a refund on the beef rolls. And she keeps typing the same thing into the tablet and then cancelling. I think she's playing me.
