Saw the pretty good reviews and stopped by. We live very close. It seems no restaurant can survive here - one by one, they come and they go belly up. What's up with this spot!? It seems like the perfect location, in a strip mall with so many happening shops, including Starbucks. This is the third restaurant, or maybe fourth?, I've seen here in the course of 2 years. They didn't change much of the decor from the last shop. It was a Pho place before, so I guess not much to change. We had: BEEF PHO (3.5/5) Very picky and snooty about pho. I've eaten enough PHO to qualify for a Vietnamese passport. Name a pho joint in the bay area, and chances are I've been there. No kidding. This one was good, but the broth and the meat could both be better as far as I'm concerned. If you want my idea of awesome pho, go to PHO VIET on North First (the one by Carl's Junior, there are two locations on North first). The meat portion was skimpy and the quality could have been better. The broth was good, but not my favorite. I prefer my broth a touch sweeter. It's a preference thing no doubt. GRILLED CHICKEN RICE PLATE (3/5) My wife's dish. She started out saying she liked it, but it ended not great, saying that she didn't like the quality of the chicken meat, fatty and dark. We also ordered the the Mayonnaise Egg Rolls which looked really interesting. I was excited to try them, and wouldn't you know, that dish never showed up. When we alerted the waitress, she told us they were brought to the wrong table. We were nearly done with our meal, so we canceled. Now in a perfect world, the waitress would have retreated to the kitchen and hastily packed up an order of the egg rolls to go and delivered them to our table with the check, free of charge. Unfortunately, we don't live in a perfect world, so we went home without having tried the egg rolls. My wife and I were talking afterwards, about how much a difference it makes when waiters and waitresses make efforts to compensate their misses. It makes you want to go back to that place despite whatever. No such effort made here, which isn't the biggest deal in the world, but just sayin' it's nice when you see restaurants do things to reach out to bring you back. A new restaurant like this needs a strong presence on the floor, an owner or manager going table to table, checking to see if all is well. The service here is weak. Two inexperienced young people taking orders, no interaction with customers, no passion, just two bodies taking orders and bringing the food. Unless your food is off-the-chart, or unless you already have an established name and reputation, your business is going to suffer with this kind of plug and play mentality. Could this be part of the reason no restaurant can survive in this spot? I think I'm on to something. read more

The only place I go to for Bun bo hue!! Seriously the bomb.com! The broth is so flavorful and delicious I can't help but to slurp it till theres nomore, even when I'm super full!! So I always walk out not being able to breathe.. Lol. The staff is very nice & friendly. I came in the day after I got my wisdom tooth pulled out and ordered pho with just noodles and soup, asked for scissors, lemon for my room temperature water and other things haha. & the server attended to my every need! He was probably thinking " ugh shes so picky " lol sorry! Their bo luc lac (shaken beef) is yummy as wellll. OH & I would never leave without getting a strawberry milk tea. OMG! I cannot resist my favorite bowl of soup. As I was driving by the plaza...hungry..I noticed "BBH" and thought to myself, what could that possibly stand for? HONEY!! Turn the car around!!! It's BUN BO HUE! It was just after lunch and the crowd has died down. I ordered the BBH and my fiance had the rice plate and we were super satisfied. After tasting the broth, I checked if they had any relations with BBH An Nam, and they sure did! No wonder the broth tasted so good! Had ordered the special BBH for $12.50 and ordered honey and fish sauce marinated crispy fried chicken wings. End up ordering another order of the wings because it's that delicious! On weekend, we are a couple came to BBH Noodle restaurant in Milpitas, CA. for first time Beef Noodle (PHO) Vietnamese style. First of all, we got ordered 2 bowls of PHO Combo and we noticed to waiter that 1 bowl with raw beef and 1 bowl with well done beef. After 10 minutes, the serve girl brought to us 2 bowls noodle with all well done beef and lot of soup only. Instead must be Combo with every single item listed on the menu. We called waiter for wrong ordered and he did not came back to tell us what happen. Not too impressed with the BBH. They were super generous with the meat, and had all vegetable fix-ins. The meat was just too tough and the flavor needed more depth. I couldn't tell what it was missing but I did know that shrimp paste and fish sauce was the prominent flavors. I usually like the complexity of BBH but this one left me craving dim sum across the street. The BBH here is as good as BBH An Nam, very similar. Everything tasted delicious for my family here so far and we came here over 10x the past year. We primarily ordered bbh, Pho, shaken beef and pho ap chao. I do know they used a lot of bones to cook their broth because once I refrigerated our to-go soups, the soup turned into jello, this means it is packed with collagen from real concentrated bone soup. Many restaurants used lots of water, little bones to cut cost so if you want to test their broth, put the broth in the fridge overnight. I hope the restaurant will keep up with this practice of using lots of bones to make their broth base and skim out the fat layers! read more

We had a party of three people and so we ordered three main dishes. The spicy noodle soup (Bun Bo Hue) had a good broth and a good portion, but the beef shank was very hard and chewy. I prefer the beef shank cut in thin slice rather than a big pieces. The chicken noodle soup had a very oily broth and only a little noodle, but other than that it was okay. The filet mignon with rice was good! The beef was very good and soft, and the rice was very aromatic and tasty. Lastly, the service was friendly, and they always made sure we didn't need anything. The meat portions in the Bo luc lac is very small. It looks like a lot but it's mostly vegetables. The strawberry lemonade was a waste of money. The che was kind of salty and portions is so tiny! You can go to Thanh Son in San Jose and get a way bigger portion for a cheaper price. Even with the 20% off, it still wasn't even worth it. The service was good though. They would always check in and asked how the food was or if we needed anything else. However, it took forever for the food to come out! I've been here several times already since it's so close to my house. But now I crave their pho. First of all my stomach is very sensitive to pho broth. Idk if it's msg or the amount of salt, but if I eat pho and it's too much to handle I throw up :( Not with BBH noodle!! Service was good here on a Saturday night. I ordered the bun bo hue and it was so bomb! I loved how much meat they offered. I'm a big carnivore! The meat was all perfectly cooked. Tendon was nice and chewy and the meat was just soft enough but not falling! They were able to give me a side of satay and mam ruoc since I love my food spicy. So good! My go to here are the Chicken Wings and the Combination Soup! Don't get the Combo soup regular though- ask for it DRY (both egg and rice noodles and broth on the side) You won't be disappointed;) Staff are super friendly and very attentive! Update: I got a message on Yelp from someone saying that this restaurant only says they're associated with An Nam. I'm not sure if that's true or not but thought it was worth mentioning . ----- I read that it's the same owner as An Nam in San Jose. If it is, then their food is a poor reflection of it. The broth for the BBH was bland and not at all spicy. I even added a spoon of the chili sauce they brought with my bowl. And I don't even eat spicy food!!! The family and I stopped in last Sunday evening to satisfy our Bun Bo Hue cravings. Service is pretty inconsistent, some days you get friendly staff and some day you get ignored. Also, don't come here after 4pm or else you'll have flavorless broth and tough meat in your BBH bowl. The staff gave us our menus and we ordered of BBH. Two of us received our bowls right away but the last person in our party had to wait 20 minutes for his bowl. The waitress didn't bother to tell us that there would be a delay. We had to flag the waitress down and asked her. The broth tasted like boiled water, no flavoring. The slices of meat were tough and we ended up not eating them. To start, this was the first place that I tried BBH and I did think it was delicious! There were too many meat parts in it, but I thoroughly enjoyed the broth ... lol. (non-adventurous eater here). To me, the taste is pretty similar to pho but more meaty. The spice level was perfect!! Since eating here, I have tried BBH at other places and they were too spicy. This place had a reasonable spice level! My housemate thought the broth wasn't flavorful enough, but boys will be boys... Though I enjoyed the food, the atmosphere was a mess!!! Our BBH took like 30 minutes to come out. And there was this party that had like 10 kids and the restaurant didn't really know how to handle it... Both the noise and the amount of people ordering at once really threw them off, I think. The 10 people party was seated before us, but when we left, it seemed like not everyone had gotten their food yet. Taking into account that our own food took ages for us to get and then to eat, I would say this is probably not a great place for large parties or for people in a rush. I'm Hue, so I know my bbh. I agree with the other reviews, I do think it's better than the other popular, hyped up place in San Jose. But nothing beats my mums! At first I didn't think it was spicy enough, but later it became more spicy as I ate it. The broth was really good and the noodles were the right consistency. And dude, the portions are huge! The only thing I didn't like to my preference was the beef was on the tough side. It was prolly too well done. But overall a good bbh fix! And the shrimp egg rolls with mayo was ok but super oily. after eating at king wah one day, i noticed BBH Noodle; looked at the pictures of food and they enticed me. today i went in and tried the place because i wasn't craving anything specific. ordered their bun bo hue and shaken beef with regular jasmine rice, not their "red" rice because i'm not too fond of tomatoes. it took a while for the food to come out, but when it did, it was piping hot. AT LEAST YOU KNOW THE FOOD IS FRESH AND COOKED WHEN ORDERED. the bun bo hue was ok, not great but not good. it tasted a little plain to me. the shaken beef was better in my eyes. the meat was tender and had good flavor. i would probably order shaken beef again but not bun bo hue, if i ever come back. an extra star, because their water tasted good. it wasn't tap water. and if you like mint, grab that green candy near the cash register. it is so delicious. i should have taken more. shaken beef gets a thumbs up but their bbh which is what they are named after gets a thumbs down. if i'm craving bbh, i'd rather go to HUE off of silver creek. read more

Don't be fooled by the name. I almost skipped through this gem because I thought it's a fusion place. It's not! The food here is very good and authentic. The service is nice and quick. And the place is cleaner than any Vietnamese restaurants I've been to. We ordered Goi Cuon (spring rolls), Bun Bo Hue, Bun Thit Nuong. Let me elaborate on each dish. - Goi Cuon: 4 rolls for $5.50. Can you find anywhere else with a better price? 4 full length rolls, not the kind of roll that they always cut in half and serve you. Standard spring rolls with pork, shrimp, and veggies. Dipping sauce is awesome too! - Bun Bo Hue: The broth is tasty and flavorful. I would say it's not as good as the broth at Bun Bo Hue An Nam, but everything else is so much better. The pork is tender, the beef and beef tendon are not chewy, and the pork blood doesn't have the fishy smell like at Bun Bo Hue An Nam. If you're not convinced enough to order this, here's another incentive. The serving size is equal to the large size at Bun Bo Hue An Nam for less price ($9.50) - Bun Thit Nuong: it's been almost a year that I haven't had Bun Thit Nuong. I'm not always a fan of this kind of Bun because there's no consistency in this dish across different restaurants. Luckily BBH Noodle know their way around this. The pork is flavorful and cooked just right. There's crushed peanut added for mare flavor. The fish sauce is superb. Everything deserves 5 stars. I'd definitely come back for their other dishes, or when I want spring rolls and feel too lazy to make them myself :P. read more

Meat portion is pretty generous, however the taste is a bit bland, not as strong as a regular bowl of Bun Bo Hue. Also order their fried chicken, small portion but has very good and distinct taste of fish sauce. Service is pretty nice. Overall not the best place to get Bun Bo Hue in the Bay, but pretty good in the area. The deduction of 1 star is because the soup is very bland to be honest, I had to add extra extra fish sauce to it. Quick disclaimer, 9/10 times I go (I've probably been here 20 times), I get egg noodle hu tieu with soup on the side. This was something I always missed living in SoCal, because there were very few places that did this right. Before this place opened, the only place I could go to for that was Sam Kee. Originally, I came for the BBH, but when I saw hu tieu on the menu, I opted for that instead. Packed with flavor! Without the soup, the egg noodles are firm and bounce off the teeth. They are the perfect mixture of sweet/savory/salty, and if you like spicy food they include a hot sauce with it. The meat is fresh and the combination includes two huge prawns. I also like to order some won ton with my soup on the side. This place took over as my favorite place for hu tieu, and in the short time it's been open I've been there tons of times. I've been meaning to try their BBH, but every time I go I can't help but order their hu tieu. Also try their sweet potato appetizer! It is a bed of fries made of sweet potato, deep fried with shrimp. You wrap it in lettuce and dip it in fish sauce, it's really good! If you like hot sauce/Vietnamese flavors/lemongrass, try the soul Chili, by far my favorite Vietnamese satee. read more

Decided to try it out since it was fairly new. Ordered the beef ball noodle soup with yellow noodle and was not impressed by the broth. In terms of taste, the flavors just did not go well together in my opinion. The beef balls were especially bland. In terms of service, they are not the most accommodating of servers. My family and I were asked to move tables in order to make room for a larger party which we were fine with. What set me off was the lack of attention we had gotten because of the large party. I've had to ask for ice water 5 times without ever getting it with just a small handful of people in the restaurant. I highly doubt I'd be coming back here. read more
