In fact, they have a sign saying that you should expect to wait fifteen to twenty minutes so your chicken can be freshly prepared. If you want your chicken in under 5 minutes, go to KFC or Popeyes so they pull it out from a heat lamp from chicken that was prepared awhile ago, As for me, I will keep coming here. This is my first time trying this place. The people who work there were very nice and the service was wonderful. I had a Diet Coke which was perfectly carbonated and was refilled before reaching the bottom. I ordered the SPICY DDEOK BOKKI which is the middle spicy (or 2 chilli). I feel the heat was similar to the Shin spicy noodles (not too spicy but you get some heat, my nose was a little runny from the heat). The texture of the rice cake had a beautiful chewiness to it and came with fresh onions and cabbage all in the red chilli sauce. I REALLY enjoyed it. This place is known for bbq chicken, so I had to order some wings. I ordered Gang Jeong Wings. It is a tangy, sweet and spicy sauce. The sauce is not runny but thick and sweet. They didn't taste too spicy while I was eating the spicy rice cakes (I think the heat from the rice cakes was hotter than the wings). The wings had a perfect crisp on the outside while the meat on the inside was juicy and fresh. There was a perfect amount of sauce on the wings and I definitely did not need any dipping sauce (perfect). I'm not sure how they fry these wings, but they are fried perfectly. I'm updating my review because many things have changed since three years ago, but the food quality continues to be great! This place is a family favorite, we're talking almost every other week. We usually dine in, and the service has been incredibly nice and welcoming. The know us, they know our order, and they interact with our kids. The restaurant is small but has plenty of seating. I've learned that for take out, ordering from their app is best, don't use Grub Hub or the other usual apps because they pile on the fees. The bb.q Chicken app is priced like their actual menu. As for the food, you can't go wrong with anything on the menu. We've had their classic chicken, tried the flavored wings, tteokbokki... everything is delicious! While we were in Irvine, decided to stop by the Diamond Jamboree center to grab something to eat. Wanted some Korean food so decided to get wings at bbq Chicken. Place is small but luckily we were able to get a table. There were 12 of us so kudos for the staff to seat us all together by putting a few tables together. Most of us ordered the weekend special ($14.99) where u get your choice of either 4 wings, 4 boneless wings, 2 drumsticks, or 4 chicken tenders, which came with one choice of sauce (I got the soy garlic), and also comes with 2 sides (green salad, fries, or steam rice). The only problem we had was when we ordered all our food from the staff. We basically had 12 orders and he didn't write anything down and just tried to remember everything. I was like, if he gets our orders perfectly correct, he definitely deserves a great tip for remembering all that. But of course a few orders were either mixed up or wrong. On our part, the chicken had the wrong sauce and the wrong side. So we had to wait for about 10 more minutes to get the correct order. It may be more expensive than other places, but it is well worth it in my opinion. However, health and safety are a completely different matter. During my recent visit, I found a cockroach in one of the dishes we ordered, the Spicy Dduck Bokki. We were shocked, especially because we had already eaten some of it before noticing. When I got home, I checked the restaurant's inspection history from the Orange County Health Division. It turns out they were previously closed in January 2024 and again in March 2025 due to cockroaches found at multiple places in their kitchen. I noticed that the "Business Owner" replies to every review here. Seriously, instead of focusing on managing Yelp ratings, please put that effort and time into ensuring the kitchen meets basic hygiene and safety standards. I brought friends and coworkers and patronized the business because it was so enjoyable. That was several years ago. I now share my utter disappointment in this chain. I have gone three times in the past two months, both this and the Culver location and have had the same results. The chicken they serve now is more cartilage that meat. It tastes old, is excessively chewy and just feels like a meal that someone who hates you put together. The product they serve - and I've ordered boneless, on the bone, and multiple flavors - moreso resembles a jerkified road kill than it does resemble chicken. Every bite I take deepens my depression that I will not be able to experience what cemented my fond nostalgia for the restaurant. I am done disappointing my family, done coming here for lunch and done bringing coworkers. Double crunch wings are delish and I got a 20pc for $35. True to its name, each wings was super crunchy with crispy batter falling off the wing with eac bite. Although the wing sizes could be bigger, the chicken was tender and flavorful. I could easily go through a box of this in a few mins, but alas I have to share with the family. This location strongly under delivered. The portion sizes were stingy for the box deal and the flavors were not on point at all. They also would not allow us to eat inside with the deal and we had to take it to go? We got the spicy and honey flavors and they chicken pieces were not well coated and dry. The ketchup we got was also liquidy since it was not shaken properly. Also, from my experience the radish is usually complimentary, $1.50 for radish was a bit much. The worst point is in orange county. The service is bad. It doesn't match the photos. This is the last time I order through door dash. It is better to drive yourself and take it to Costa Mesa or Tustin. Decided to give this place a second try since the surrounding area has long lines.. Now I know why. Service is bland. They don't make you feel TOO welcomed. The kids stand behind the register and dance as they watch you eat. Although watching you eat, they don't offer you a refill unless you ask, and if you don't say easy ice they fill it to the brim with ice and less drink. Seems like the owner walked in and only then they got to "work" as he sat in the corner of the restaurant. Food review as followed: Salad tasted expired. You know that mildew taste from dirty water. I told you it would take 15." When I said I didn't recall him mentioning that, he insisted he did--turning the exchange into a back-and-forth argument over something that could've easily been handled with basic courtesy. But the drink selections are lacking if you don't drink beer. I wish I did but not even hot tea available. Just hot water. Whatever. Easily one of my favorite restaurants in Irvine. I've been coming here for 6 years now and I'm never disappointed. Yes, it can be pricey, but I think the quality of the chicken is great, and the boneless is sooo juicy. Nothing like wingstop or BWW. The flavors they offer are all very yummy. My go to is 10 piece boneless sweet spicy and 10 piece double crunch wings. We get a side of fries with light seasoning and a side of ranch and hot spicy sauce. If we aren't feeling too much spicy for the day, then we will swap out the sweet spicy boneless for gang-jeong. SOOO good. We always call in our order for pickup because chicken wings can take a while to cook, but they are always fresh when we get them. When we do eat inside, the service is generally fast and we are always able to get a table right away. The place is also clean and small. But beware of the parking situation!!! If you can't find parking in the lot then I recommend just going to the parking structure and walking. 10/10 recommend if you love fried chicken! read more

I have eaten at the Costa Mesa location at least a dozen times and a fan of this establishment and tried the Irvine location thinking it would be the same. I ordered the honey garlic and the soy garlic wings. The wings were NOT double fried and had a bad taste like they were fried in old oil. I asked the employee why they were not crispy and he said the flavor I ordered are not double fried. Isn't that what Korean chicken is? He also told me that they fry their chicken in canola oil while other locations fry in avocado oil. Which would explain for the rancid taste.
