I love this casual and welcoming spot! The food and drinks are delicious and reasonably priced. We love spending an afternoon under the big oak tree, listening to live music and enjoying cold beers, boiled peanuts, a po' boy or one of the amazing weekly specials. I've eaten here 3 times and every experience has been perfection. The employees/owners are very kind, especially to my dog. They check on you multiple times while eating and provide koozies to keep your drink cold. The food is the best Cajun food you can find outside Louisiana. I love their lightly battered, perfectly spiced and fried shrimp for their po' boys. It has a little bit of cornmeal to give it a nice crunch, but is thin and doesn't over power the flavor of the shrimp. I have never liked alligator tail until I've had theirs. It's super soft and tender and not swampy tasting like gator tail can be. Everything is reasonably priced. I probably had like 10 huge shrimp on my sandwich and it was $10, including a side. I love the hospitality and the quality and flavor of the food can't be beat. My only negative comment is their hours. It's difficult to get all the way out to Dunedin in their limited open times, but we always make an effort to anyway because it's worth it. read more

I'm embarrassed by the lack of detail I provided before. Sure I gave it five stars out of the gate (which never happens) but the lack of description on the place I frequent and promote the most often should have gotten my Yelp membership revoked! Out of the dozens of meals I've had here not a single item has missed its mark. Each time I have brought the little lady or an "outta townah" they have loved their meal and the atmosphere Happys provides. My go to absolute favorite is their fried oyster po'boy with a cup of gumbo. To begin their oysters are breaded and fried to perfection such a light but perfectly seasoned breading. I would challenge anyone to match these fried oysters (or shrimp for that matter) and the gumbo cures what ails ya. It is not hot spicy (plenty of hot sauce around to spice it up if you want) but just so fresh and seasoned perfectly. If you have a hangover get a cup of this if you have a st pats day hang over get a bowl of this you will be ready to go out that night. I won't bore you with the fact their smoked chicken wings(special) are unbelievable or the meatloaf (special) is the only meatloaf my girlfriend ever wants now, and that their shrimp and crab salad is the best seafood deal in Dunedin. I'll just tell you that these are unbelievably down to earth great people that will leave you and your stomach "Happy". read more

This past Saturday afternoon I had the bowl of gumbo (chicken and sausage base) with a potato salad side... Outstanding! The big oak tree covering the seating area provide plenty of shade and a great breeze made it comfortable to sit for a few hours and listen to their live music. Stopped here from the Jolly Trolly. Got dirty looks for using the bathroom assuming that they were guessing we weren't going to dine in. After grabbing a table we ordered food and alcohol but shortly after we got our meals a worker approached the family in a rude tone stating that we "can not drink alcohol that they didn't serve" even though they served us the drinks? A friend got up and asked how much was a bag of chips and the lady told him the price but didn't cash him out which was quite odd. Very unhappy about this experience and at the fact that the dogs that others brought got treated better than people who got off at the Jolly Trolly stop. Very strange. Definitely not getting off on this stop again. PS jolly trolly doesn't allow alcohol so where would we be getting our outside alcohol from? read more

I'm not from the Tampa area but I'm here for work and just to happen to be working right behind this place so naturally I stopped in for lunch.. I got the Po' Boy and gumbo.. I have to say the po' boy was pretty good, and the only reason it got 3 stars.. but the lack of taste in the gumbo is borderline disrespectful and it would get a 1 if rated in that alone.. You know what rice tastes like? Yea.. just the taste of rice and a hint of pepper is all you get from it. Given the other reviews about this place, I want to believe maybe it was just a bad batch and I'll try it again in a couple days to give them a fair chance, esp since they are supposed to specialize in Cajun.. but to be honest... I really don't want to waste the money on it again and even chance getting the same exact result. But I have to be fair. Better luck next time guys read more

Parking is very limited so walk if you can. Drove past this place earlier this afternoon, it looked interesting, we checked the Yelp reviews and decided we should try it. On our way back from errands we decided today was the day! Our thoughts were to get a beer and order something to share, then go from there (cause it's a bit early for dinner). We arrived at 4pm and found a cute little place with outdoor seating. There was an entertainer playing his guitar and singing (very pleasant -- if he reads this, it's true, you don't suck and thank you for that!) and what seemed to be a neat atmosphere. We weren't sure if we needed to order at the window or if there was table service, so my other half went to ask and also see what beer was available. The server said she would be over in a minute. 30 minutes later...we were still waiting. The place only has a few tables and small counter seating plus the seats circling the tree...there were 2 couples (besides us) and a group of 3...it wasn't jam packed and no one was demanding anything. There was no excuse for anything to take that long! We would have been happy for a while with a beer, but were never given that opportunity. My husband wanted to sample local gator delicacies and this is one of the places we narrowed down. It turned out not just to have delicious gator bites but also excellent seafood. The blackened catfish and the crawfish sausage are definitely worth going there for. The server was very friendly. The owner and her husband actually cook in the kitchen. Very dog friendly place. I loved the fun, breezy outdoor setting, the delicious flavors and the cold beer. Started with boiled peanuts which had a nice hint of some spices. We were looking for a different eatery than our usual hangouts and stumbled upon Happy's Bayou Bites in Dunedin. It is THE place to go when you're craving Cajun or Creole! It's a small, casual place with outdoor seating of picnic tables or high stools and is dog-friendly! We loved the Oyster Po'Boy and Shrimp a la Creole. Just discovered Happys Bayou Bites. What a find in Duneden. Enjoyed lunch outside shaded by umbrellas at picnic tables. The restaurant is dog friendly allowing us to bring our dog who was treated to water and dog treats by owner. Our lunch consisted of the crabcake poor boy sandwich which had an abundance of crab in the cakes, a very tasty sauce and your selection of a side. We also tried the fried shrimp poor boy plate(no bread); the shrimp was in a light batter fried to perfection. The gumbo description sounded delicious and will try that on the next visit because we will definitely be back. read more
