Context: I'm here in Dunedin to visit my sweet 88 yr old Mom and my dear Brother. Cafe Alfresco has been their favorite restaurant for over a decade. My Brother lives in St Pete and takes our Mom to eat there or calls in for take-out at least 2-3 times per month. We arrived tonight (Thursday) around 7:45 PM to bypass the dinner rush. Walking in to be seated, I noticed several empty tables that had not yet been cleared with several people waiting outside to be seated. I was told "there will be at least a 10-15 minute wait, to give my name, and to wait outside." I thought maybe there were enough people waiting already to take up the empty tables, but that wasn't the case. We sat outside in the cold waiting and watching the guy stand at the bar doing nothing to help bus the empty tables, some of which were right by the window. After 15 minutes or more, we were finally called in last walking by the same uncleared tables, led to another table as the table cloth was being placed on it, no menus, no apology for the extra long (unnecessary) wait outside in the cold. When we finally placed our order, we waited some more. Finally our server said "there was a mix up and our order had not gone through." When Mom's favorite seared salmon finally arrived, it was dry and overcooked. I have never written a bad review on Yelp in my life. But, I hated to see my precious Mom & Brother treated this way. We picked this restaurant because of the gluten free menu we saw online. We came here for lunch on a Sunday. We were quickly seated. I was really disappointed with the menu. It wasn't coded with allergies anymore. The server said she would help me with the gluten free options. I ended up ordering a tuna salad because I wasn't sure what was really considered gluten free. The tuna salad was ok not great. The tuna was cooked a little too much for me. I was afraid to try the dressings.The server was super nice. The ambiance was cute and clean. read more

We've tried this place a couple of times now and had overall good experiences. The service is good, the servers are friendly and the bar has a nice draft selection. The chicken Marsala needs improvement, the sauce didn't have great flavor and the chicken was not seasoned well. Using large (maybe portobello?) mushrooms provides a weird texture to the dish. On the other hand, when you cut into the Pork Chop, the heavens may part and angels sing. This chop is magnificent!!! We ordered on Wednesday night which offers a special Italian preparation with a tomato reduction sauce. The pork itself is so tender you can cut it with a fork. It melts in your mouth. Came here for lunch on a weekday, seated immediately although the restaurant was bustling. Bright, airy dining room, just the right temperature. We split the beet salad and goat cheese BLT. Both were very tasty and enjoyable. My teenager had his usual, a burger and he liked it a lot. Service was attentive and helpful, our food came out quickly, prices were reasonable. Great food, very enjoyable generally good service. Parking is sometimes crazy because that entire area has a number of restaurants and is a very popular spot for locals and tourists and mostly the parking is not in front of the business it's in parking lots to the side. I recommend that you go a little early to get a good table, especially in hot weather when you want to eat inside If the weather is mild then there is a covered patio and it's delightful because you look out on the park on the street. read more

I had high hopes for this restaurant. I noticed it on my last trip to Dunedin and put it on my list of places to try. Unfortunately, it just wasn't my cup of tea. It was pricey for what it was. The ambiance wasn't anything special. It was a bit chaotic. No clear leader to run the floor. My server seemed annoyed and I attribute that to the lack of support. And then the food was mid at best. No good flavors and honestly bland. I wish that this had been a different experience. With that all being said, we were there for brunch so I can't speak to their lunch/dinner. We stopped by Cafe Alfresco today for lunch and it was a lovely experience. Walking in, we were warmly greeted and offered our choice of seating. The entire staff was friendly and I could definitely tell that this is a place that is big with the locals because of the interactions I witnessed. The inside of the restaurant was clean and a great place to sit and people watch with great views of the street. Our meal was prepared quickly, accurately and was delicious. Our server Shyanne took really great care of us. Fun fact, this is the first restaurant we've ever eaten at that has an electronic menu, it was a tablet that had the menu and all of the items had pictures. Very cool and easy to use. My only regret is that I didn't have room for dessert because there was a cooler full of beautiful looking desserts and the chocolate mousse was really calling to me, along with a few other items. If you're in Dunedin, I'd recommend Cafe Alfresco. We really enjoyed our meal and will be back. read more

We just love Cafe Alfresco but had not tried Brunch here yet so we finally went on a Sunday at 10am and got our favorite table. Food was wonderful as usual but very large portions (even for a breakfast) made us unable to finish everything. We were welcomed and seated in their indoor patio area. Lots of natural light, cool and comfy. It was nice for a lunch. I was looking for a light a refreshing lunch. I wanted the grouper sandwich. Unfortunately, they were sold out of grouper at 12:30pm for the day. Not ideal. I settled for a burger. My wife got the Cuban. We got the feta alfresco for an appetizer. Their culinary inspirations come from the world. You'll see a good amount of Italian offerings, seafood, some Greek, Asian and even French inclusions. Think escargot and chicken parm with potstickers and some hummus. The burger was cooked as I asked and was tasty, quality meat. Just not what I was in the mood for. The Cuban my wife got was tasty and solid. Well equipped with the traditional toppings. The feta alfresco was the standout here. Deep fried feta cheese. A unique and we'd say, better take on the mozzarella stick. We enjoyed our little lunch in Dunedin but with all the other options, we wouldn't come back here. Nestled in the sleepy little downtown of Dunedin is the gem of a restaurant, it's definitely has an Italian slant to the menu but surprisingly offers a good variety of other dishes too. Portions are very generous: service is warm and welcoming and our food was brought out in a very timely manner. Our waiter advised us on options and helped to make our decisions. The menu is presented in iPad format. The ambience is nice with some seating at the small bar area, an interior dining area, a conservatory dining and some al fresco dining. Well, going to the craft fair in Dunedin and we happen to stop in this lovely restaurant. Of course there was a grumpy man at the door, which just added to the ambience. The food was incredible. We've walked past here mid-day, and tonight we found out why. We were seated right away on a Tuesday night and got in our drink orders. They came out quickly and we out in our food orders. Drink prices are very reasonable, and they have a good wine selection and a full bar. Rolls are offered, and come out hot and fresh. For dinner? My wife got the Bean Soup. It had big chunks of potato, along with the beans and other veggies. A bowl was a good meal for her. I got the Chicken Piccata. It was delicious! Creamy lemon caper sauce with nicely pan fried chicken and a heap of pasta. There is indoor and outdoor seating, and if you're indoors there is a lot of glass to see the trail and street. A Culinary Misadventure; like Pizza by Alfredo" As someone who has lived nearby for seven years, I finally decided to venture into Cafe Alfresco, which, I must say, felt more like a trip to "Pizza by Alfredo" than "Alfredo's Pizza Cafe" in Scranton. It felt like a pop up restaurant by Michael Scott were he start a sentence and didn't know where it was going, hoping he would just find it along the way. Upon entering, I was greeted by a delightful host staff whose warm smile reminded me of Pam's pleasant demeanor at the front desk. However, that's where the charm ended. The atmosphere was thick with smoke from the fryers, reminiscent of the infamous fire drill office episode, except there was no Dwight to save us. Instead, I was left pondering how a restaurant in such a prime location could deliver food that felt more like it belonged in an extended care facility than on a vibrant city street. I ordered the sesame salmon, only to find it cooked so long that it was tougher than chicken--an unfortunate twist that would make even Kevin's famous chili look appealing. The vegetables on the side tasted suspiciously like they had been pulled from the depths of a can or frozen and hastily steamed, devoid of any intention or care. Each dish we ordered seemed to be prepared without any real thought, almost as if the cook/chef channeled Toby's apathy toward everything. In the wise words of Michael Scott (Wayne Gretzky), "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take," and I certainly missed the shot on this one. It's a shame, as the wait staff truly tried their best, embodying the spirit of teamwork that is so often celebrated in the office, yet their efforts were overshadowed by the culinary catastrophe that unfolded on our plates. In conclusion, despite the friendly service, the food at Cafe Alfresco, left much to be desired. It was a lackluster experience left me wishing I'd opted to the pizza takeaway down the street instead. So, take my advice: save your appetite and your money. As Michael wisely said, "You have no idea how high I can fly." Unfortunately, this restaurant stayed firmly planted on the ground. read more

We had a chance to enjoy Cafe Alfresco on our last visit to Dunedin. The atmosphere is like a French Bistro; the service is top-notch and friendly; they go all out to please. Their menu is extensive with popular choices. On this particularly warm day, we were in the mood for a salad, and my hubby ordered the Greek Salad and I had Tomato Caprese. The salads were fresh, generous, and refreshing. The Greek salad was topped off with an unexpectedly huge portion of potato salad! We were happily surprised by our experience at Alfresco! Had lunch here recently while doing some shopping in downtown Dunedin. This restaurant is very popular with the locals as well as snowbirds. They are adjacent to the Pinellas Trail. There is a large outdoor covered seating area. They are open for lunch and dinner seven days a week, with brunch on the weekends. The menu consists of appetizers, soups, salads, sandwiches, and entrees. Some notable items include Greek salad, reuben sandwich, Cuban sandwich, Grouper sandwich or platter, chicken parmesan platter, Crab cake appetizer or platter, shrimp scampi and fried chicken.. Went to a late lunch with new friends, whose first names were the same as wife's and mine. They suggested Alfresco, a local favorite of theirs in downtown Dunedin. Parking is always a challenge there but we were pleasantly surprised to find a car pulling out of a spot right in front of the restaurant. We were greeted and told they would have a table for the four of us in five minutes or so, and they did. We were given menus and water and told of the day's special. Turns out the special was a seafood crepe filled with shrimp, scallops and fish. My wife and the other wife chose that. The other couple chose the special for her, with a side salad and the Sesame Tuna Salad for him. My wife also ordered the special and I selected the Pan Seared Scallops with a side salad. Our side salads came quickly and were fresh, cool, crisp and delicious. Soon followed by our meals. The wives loved the Seafood Crepes! So much that when we customarily swap dishes halfway through, she hesitated. Though Seared Ocean Scallops are her favorite seafood! And I couldn't blame her, the Crepes were fantastic. Creamy, seasoned beautifully and lightly folded with the crepes. Time for dessert, the wives decided on slices of Chocolate Cake and the other hubby chose a slice of Carrot Cake. I figured just a bite of the Chocolate Cake would do for me. Unfortunately I forgot to take a picture of it before my wife enjoyed it. She said it was great. Visiting Tampa, FL area and having dinner with my son. We randomly picked this place based on Google search. I started out with a Pinot Grigio and the chicken and sausage gumbo. The gumbo was tasty not spicy but had a lot of meat. I decided to go with the eggplant Parmesan. I had not tried this in awhile so why not? My son ordered the chicken piccata. The eggplant was cooked just like I liked. It was firm and not soggy. There was nothing spectacular about either of our meals. Our server was nice enough. The salads were fresh, delicious, and big. We tried the Asian shrimp salad ($15.50) with mixed greens, tomatoes, onions, and cucumbers topped with big shrimps and crispy wontons then drizzled with Thai basil vinaigrette. Very refreshing! The blackened chicken walnut salad ($14.99) was also very delicious. The chicken was very tasty and tender. The fresh ingredients tossed in burgundy vinaigrette and topped with walnuts and blue cheese were a perfect combination of sweet and salty flavors. Delish! My husband and I came here to eat with cousins the day before thanksgiving (so we could avoid the crowds). We sat on the patio and had a wonderful meal. Pasta was the specials of the day so I ordered lasagna and the piece was huge, and delicious. The chicken salad was also ordered and was enjoyed and finally the huge double cut pork chop was the star of the table. The last time Claire and I met for lunch, we met here for delicious food and great service. So Cafe Alfresco was a logical choice for a second lunch yesterday, 2/2/22. We were not disappointed. Once again the food was great (crab cakes and bean soup this time), and our waitress was friendly and attentive. We didn't have dessert, but all of the selections looked extraordinary - especially the carrot cake & key lime pie. Cafe Alfresco is next to the Pinellas Trail - a convenient stop for walkers or cyclists. If you drive here, and can't find street parking, park in the lot next to the trail. First time visiting downtown Dunedin and found it rather charming, with lots of interesting shops, and quite a few Little Free Libraries too. Our friends recommended this place. It doesn't look like much on the outside, or inside. There is an outdoor dining area with about 6 tables. Some of the servers wear masks, some don't. Service is quite good. Portions are huge. I was told that the soups and desserts are home made from scratch, and they do taste fresh. While the introduction on Yelp mentioned Lobster Roll, to my disappointment it's not on their current menu. My friend said their lobster bisque was really good too, though that one was gone from the menu as well. While this doesn't look like a place for great fish and chips, without any crab shack or pub vibe, they were amazingly good. For starters they use New England cod, and the batter was light and crunchy. The fries are really delicious too. Portions are very generous. read more

I was in Downtown Dunedin today (11/14/25) and wanetd a nice fresh salad for lunch. After checking Yelp I decided to try Cafe Alfresco as it was highly rated. Ordered the Caesar salad with light dressing having had many it in other places that were soaked. I added the chicken to make it meal... When it salad arrived, I took the time to cut up the chicken on top which hid the salad and when I did see the salad it was not only completely soaked with dressing but was made up of mostly romaine stems and stalk heels. what was green looked so old that I had to imagine that they had not received their produce order for the day and it was all they had left and was the crap that most everybody else throws away. Extremely dissappointed and I won't be going back. read more
