Been twice now for breakfast and I love it. The potatos are real, cooked perfectly. The hamsteak is perfect. Pancakes are so delicious.

From the first moments of opening the door, we knew this was going to be a great breakfast. The familiar smell of "old doner & love rushed out to greet my nose! A very gentle and lovely server greeted us, indicating we could sit wherever we would like, while another made the rounds with fresh hot coffee. As the second woman made the rounds, she made friendly jovial conversations with locals indicating they had been coming for a while. My husband had the artichoke, mushrooms, asparagus & feta omelet. I had a single egg and grits. This one of the VERY few tomes I have actually received a properly cooked over medium egg!!! Thank you, Pete's!!!! Finally! The grits were perfect as well! Good Lord, I love finding little family diner's that still serve amazing food with good friendly customer service. My GF had been food deprived for a medical procedure in the area and we wanted food quick. Yelp led me to Pete's Diner and I'll just say the place did not disappoint. I opted for the Pete's Scramble, biscuits and gravy covered in scrambled eggs with choice of bacon or sausage. Their gravy is out of this world GOOD. GF went with the hash and eggs, and she loved every bite. I got a taste of the hash and it was perfectly cooked with a little grill top sear. We will be back in the area often so Pete's is a definite re-peat adventure! read more

In the Dunedin area after a couple early appointments and looking for a brunch spot. A quick check of higher ratings pulled up Pete's. And the comments affirmed that, so we were off. Found it easily and glanced at today's specials then were seated immediately. We glanced over the menu. My eyes caught the Biscuits & Gravy but then I spotted the Pete's Scramble. Biscuits & Gravy with scrambled eggs & cheese, topped with crisp Bacon! It was tough because everything looked great. Especially the food at the tables around us. My wife discovered the Scramble Bowl. It reminded her of her Father's Hillbilly Stew served three times a day when squirrel hunting with Dad and three boys. One pound Bacon fried crisp. Add one large Onion diced and 5 pounds of par boiled potatoes. Then finish with a dozen eggs. Sounded boring when I joined them but after several hours walking in the woods, it was great. I also ordered a side of cheese grits to share but both our plates were huge, so half went home for another day. Service was great, food was excellent. Great prices. Got quickly seated on a weekday. Spouse and I wanted breakfast- at breakfast time (7-8am). Seems like a lot of local places don't open til later. Decided to try this spot instead of one of our other regular places...and glad we did. Got quickly seated by a friendly waitress, and was assisted with the menu as we were a but undecided. Yes, we wanted the typical eggs, a carbohydrate, etc. but unsure of the portions of the meals. The food came out in a timely fashion, wasn't too salty, and cooked to our liking. Had a great breakfast at this "hole in the wall" in Dunedin! We spent the past two days in downtown Dunedin, and I suggest taking the time to drive a little bit to get a top breakfast for less cost. The diner is located in a strip mall adjacent to the Walmart. It definitely looks like a diner, but is decorated in a Route 66 theme, and was very clean. The menu offers lots of options for breakfast and lunch. Our server, Sofia (the owner's wife), was the best! She was attentive, polite and spot on with service. It wasn't very busy on a Monday at 9:30 am, but I got the feeling we would have had great service anyway. My coffee cup would only get to half before she was offering to refill it. The food was WONDERFUL! The Farmers omelette (mushrooms, artichokes, asparagus & feta) was cooked to perfection, with ample ingredients and the egg just the right amount of fluffiness and firmness. It also was only a two egg omelette, so I wasn't completely stuffed or wasting food. My wife had an over medium egg that was also cooked exactly to her liking ( "no snot"). I will come back here in an instant whenever we are back in Dunedin! read more

Diet coke in a can. I have never paid for a meal, left most of it and walked out before. The waitress was sweet good and nice. The food was weak and the diner had the vibe of the worst diners of 40 years ago (not the best). What tasted like wonder-bread whole wheat toast, and is that a velveta square of cheese? Its not - but dang if i can tell what it is. I took a few bites paid and left. Also if you are not going to spend the money for a pop machine where else are you skimping? Feels like the owner is running out the string to retire when the lease ends. Sorry about this review, I feel obligated to save my friends the journey. read more

We went here for the first time today. It seemed ok and food was decent, however the kids meal was $12.99?!!!! $6.99 for one piece of bacon. We got two adult meals and one kids meal and it was $48. We were absolutely floored. We could've gone out to a real restaurant for that price. We wanted to question it but what are we supposed to say. Never going back for sure. read more

I am a snowbird so I miss all of them when I leave for the Summer and very much look forward to returning in the Fall. Really enjoy coming here for breakfast every now and then. This place is literally walking distance from my apartment. This is a typical Mom n pop diner. The staff is always extremely friendly, everyone wished us a happy new year as we were leaving today. They have the standard "diner coffee"...nothing to compare to Starbucks or anything. I usually get something different every time I go, and I have not been disappointed yet. Today I got the Gyro omelet (pictured below) and it was very good! The only bad thing I would say is that the inside is a little old and outdated, and kinda looks dirty. I've been here 3-4/x on vacation. The food is excellent; nice portions. Service is fast and always super-friendly. For the amount and quality of food you get, this is a very good deal. I read a review from some brain-dead idiot that said this place was "dirty". THAT couldn't be further from the truth. It's very clean, and always HAS been. I am actually considering buying a condo in Dunedin, and knowing Pete's Diner is there is a definite selling point! Stopped in on a Thursday morning when they offer discounted Eggs Benedict (on both Tuesday and Thursday). The Bene offering was fairly average, nothing real special about it. The muffins seemed a bit, what's the word I am looking for, soggy? Something like that, which I do not particularly care for. The eggs themselves were done fairly well, perhaps very very slightly overcooked. The ham was cooked well. The Hollandaise sauce was perhaps a bit lackluster, overall. There were a decent amount of potatoes, which I like, but without any add-ons like onions or peppers. Service was efficient and friendly and the diner is clean. Three, to me, is really "just average." There is definitely better, but I would not give it a two (Meh). read more

It's a little dinner feel prices are reasonable but service is slow and if you're a first timer and there are regulars there be prepared to wait even if they came in after you. They take priority. I got breakfast here. Poached eggs mid-well with homefries(asked for them to be well done) and bacon. The poached eggs came out perfect! The homefries were barely brown and the bacon was over cooked, hard and crumbled and fell apart as I was trying to take a bite of it. Also noticed they use the #5 worst brand of bread in our country!!! Look it up it's Wonder bread! Wonder bread has wood particles baked right in! I remember eating this bread when I was a child and pulling pieces of wood splinters out of my mouth! Not really sure if I will eat here again. Server was excellent. It was kind of weird that this one guy kept doing circles around the bar and getting in the servers way. Took my 2 daughters there, we all loved the food. It's a typical moon and pop, staff very friendly, food is not great, quite yummy with good portions and prices. They had a special board with about 8 items on it, all the specials were 5.25 - we got 2 eggs, potatoes, toast and 2 pieces of tasty bacon for that price and left full. My other daughter got the gyro omelette which was HUGE and also came with potatoes and toast for $8 and change, I don't remember the exact price. I hardly see her eat a whole meal but she devoured this and asked if we could come again soon. The orange juice was good and much more generously sized than most places, almost as big as the ice tea cups for only 25 cents more. I can't say enough about how welcome we were made to feel. This is a place where the locals come, definitely worth the trip. There were many lunch choices that we may try again next time. Server was friendly but food was definitely not worth the price we paid for lunch. I don't know how others gave them 4 stars. I had an oriental salad was not good at all. I believe it was iceberg lettuce, which I hate. And who makes an oriental salad with no mandarins? But I ate it anyway because I was hungry. The chicken on the salad was okay, but definitely not tasty. My husband had a Philly steak sandwich which he gave 3 stars, saying it was just okay. And my son opted for a breakfast plate of scrambled eggs, 2 slices of bacon, and pancakes. He said it was just okay. The portions were small. So all around this diner earned 3 stars. I hate to do this when it's a local place. I prefer local diners to chain restaurants because I want to support local business owners. But I have eaten at two other local places that I revisit, but this place will not be one of them. I do hope this review helps them as they seek to get better and not give up. They could do better by learning how to season their food, offer better portions, and pay attention to the booths that have broken springs inside.
