The breakfast special was a hash brown bowl. It was so tasty hot and freshly made. It had hash brown potatoes with two eggs anyway you want them, sausage, bacon cheese, and gravy. Grandson said it was the best breakfast bowl he has ever had. It also came with cinnamon toast. It was larger enough for two people. We also had the bacon egg and cheese croissant with extra crispy hash browns. The service was friendly and so kind as always. This is one of our favorite go to breakfast spots. A cute diner/small restaurant in Clearwater. We went here a couple of times while we were in the area. The place was always steady, a lot of regulars. The service was great and our waitress each time was always helpful, attentive, and pleasant. The food was very good and they have the best omelettes we have every had. Stumbled upon this place while searching breakfast places while on vacation. So happy I found the Sunset Grill. This was fantastic so much I came back more than once. Service from Matilda was great and always came back to top off my iced tea. As far as the food...I say this without any reservation or hesitation that this place made the best omelette I have ever had. So much that when I came back I made sure to order the same omelette and it was just as great as the first time. I ordered the sunset omelette and I'm now back in Ohio thinking about that sunset omelette at the Sunset Grill. Really great place to eat and staff were very friendly. Use to love this place but IMO has gone down hill. Only one side now given with entree. Most restaurants still give you two. Seriously, how much extra is a salad? Also, products are now inferior IMO, I.e. bacon, tuna, ketchup and more. Not my go to diner anymore. read more

Omelet had a very "off" taste- hubby tasted my veggie omelet and said he thought the oil used to cook omelet was not fresh. The "off" taste was so strong I couldn't taste the veggies or cheese. They have a nice interior with cool lamps in the front. The booth was spacious. The menu is pretty long, and the serve a nice, soft bread. The prices are pretty reasonable. and I got a gyro. They let me substitute broccoli for fries to have a healthier vibe. Overall, it was decent. My friend got broccoli with her meal, but instead it was more of a medley with carrots and cauliflower, and her salad didn't come until after her entree, so that was a big disappointment, but she didn't want to cause a fuss. The waitress didn't drop off the food and didn't reappear until after she just decided to eat what she had. So that was a bit disappointing. It was pretty full when I went on a Tuesday afternoon, so people must generally have a good experience. It made for a nice place to grab a meal with a group. read more

I stopped into Sunset Grill after doing a quick search of the area I was working/driving in on Friday. The inside and food pics caught my attention so I figured let's give it a try. I was pleasantly surprised when I walked in the door. I was greeted by the owner as soon as I entered. I made quick work of the gyro and left very little of the potato salad. The gyro meat was crispy on the edges and tender on the inside. I'm honestly ready for another one. After I finished, I once again was greeted by the owner Rafael and shared my feedback. Rafael was super friendly and gracious plus the meal was great. We ordered chicken wings, chicken stir fry, sirloin steak. I spent $76.00 including18% tax. -Chicken tasted old , hard and flavorless. -Stir fry chicken is too saucy and too sweet. The rice was so wet from the very sweet sauce. The veggies were soggy , rice was tossed out when I got home. -$24.00 sirloin steak and it was horrible in taste. I said make my steak medium but it turned out well done and soaking in sauce. So hungry so I had to eat that. Not well worth my $76.00. Try other places not this one. read more

A friend clued me in to this spot, knowing I'm a total coconut pie fanatic, and swore they'd never left hangry. The hospitality at this Clearwater institution is ridiculously on point, with a menu that's basically a choose-your-own-adventure novel. We just left there. We arrived at 7:45 which is 15 minutes before they close. The hostess asked, "How many in our party?" and then said she'd have to check to see if the kitchen was still open. When she came back, she informed us that the kitchen was closed and that they sometimes close early. I think she saw the disappointment on our faces and then said something that baffled me. The service was good and workers were very friendly from the moment we walked in the door. Our waitress was more than happy to share recommendations with us. The menu had a plethora of options to choose from. We were given a basket of bread to start. I decided to have a chef salad before my meal. The ingredients were fresh, and the vinaigrette was tasty. For my entree, I had the fried fish and bake potato. I always love a baked potato as my side. The fish was seasoned well, but could've been fried a little longer. My wife and I were running around in the Top Of The World Adult Condos area and spotted Sunset Grill. Our former church adult group met here for dinner and fellowship years ago so decided to drop in. Always very busy at meal times, I'm sure fue in part to Condos nearby and great food. We had to park in the back but only waited a few minutes for a table. We perused the menu and decided on Western Omelette with Toast for my wife and Country Fried Steak & Gravy, Eggs over easy, Grits and Biscuit for me. The layout was different, remodeled quite a bit in the 10 years or so since we went to church nearby. One change I was glad for was removal or possibly moved the standing glass cabinet in the front with all the great desserts. Especially their award winning Key Lime Pie. Much less temptation that way. They were, as usual, very busy, so our meal took awhile for our meals to come. Although our server Emmy was great, like everyone else they were evidently short staffed. Stopped in on the way home to grab gyro meat to add to a salad I already had prepared at home. Mind you I've eaten in before and everything was fine. However, on this visit I needed some protein to add to a salad and when I got home this is what was packed in the to go, for $11 plus tax. Just came from having dinner at Sunset Grill , And I'm sad to say it was the absolutely dining experience I have had in many many years. Ordered fish platter in observance of lent . Cod , shrimp, crab cakes sweet potato fries with potato skin appetizer. Waiter was a snippy little bitch didn't care to get his name. God was still frozen in center ! Ask to have replaced, he took my plate my shrimp my crab cake my sweet potato fires and my FORK ! Then brought me back a much smaller piece of tasteless cod and nothing else !!! And not even my fork !!! Waiter 101 . Vegetable medley was water soaked boiled with bits and pieces of stems from broccoli. Again tasteless and wet . We received a $6.00 credit on a $40.00 bill. Upon checkout never asked how the food was I paid the bill reluctantly and even left a $5.00 undeserving tip. We have been going there for years and I can honestly say that we WILL NEVER GO BACK. Honestly not what I expected. I looked at the menu online and they have a lot of choices. So I was expecting a diner type vibe. I was wrong. They do make a little bit of everything and they make it well. The place was mostly full while we were there. They've got early bird specials. We took advantage of happy hour and had some cocktails. I mean cocktails don't normally come in 20 oz glasses but these were delicious. My boyfriend got the burger and he said it was good. I got the gyro I thought it was pretty tasty. The tzatziki sauce was amazing I'm a sucker for good tzatziki it's easy to make but I've had some bad tzatziki. The only con is there aren't a lot of vegan options you can make things vegan but it won't be a complete meal. You can have a great meal if you are a vegetarian. We will definitely come back it's close to the house they've got food everyone can agree on, and great cocktails. Give them a try if enjoy good food and wanna try something new. read more

We got seated right away after I saw the podiatrist down the block. Normally we like the Acropol Inn, but they're now closed Monday and Tuesday. This place is apparently under new ownership and received a big remodel too. Interior is very fresh looking and clean. Monica was our waitress; very friendly and a good sense of humor. With all the old people that seem to eat in this place, I'm sure patience and humor are good traits for a waitress to have. She was quite knowledgeable about the menu and shared her own insights as to what is particularly good in her own mind and her observations. Queen Bee chose their Greek salad with gyro meat. I meantime had a gyro with fries. Since this is our first time here, I wanna keep it simple. We are also comparing notes about the same things Acropol has that we both like. Monica brought us some bread to nibble on while we were waiting. It was actually pretty good for Florida! As a born and bred NYC Boy, I love GOOD bread (pardon the awful pun), of which there is a dearth here in God's Waiting Room. After what seemed like kind of a long wait for a simple salad and gyro (how long does it take to toss a bunch of vegetables together?!), and seeing some who got here after us eating before we were served...I started wondering what was going on back there. Monica DID offer us a bowl of soup on the house to try and do right...no; just get our food out. She explained that there was a broken microwave which was pushing the kitchen behind. I'm sorry, but a professional kitchen has no business with a microwave. Anyway, food finally shows up after another profuse apology from Ms. Monica. The Greek salad was humongous; photo doesn't do justice to the size of the thing. Gyro was moderate in size. She enjoyed her salad; gyro meat to her was a nice plus. She prefers Acropol Greek salad and wouldn't order THIS one again. I feel the same as regards my gyro and fries. Pretty pedestrian and not as big as Acropol. We were also offered a free rice pudding as a result of the Yelp check in. Monica offered it but I declined. We just wanted to leave; I didn't feel like waiting another 20 minutes for a lousy cup of rice pudding. Queen Bee has decided she will NOT eat another Americanized Greek salad again. "This was my lesson." She'll STILL have the half she didn't eat for tomorrow's lunch. ONLY reason for the 3rd star was the fact that Ms. Monica actually made the effort to do right by us. Other than that, we highly prefer Acropol Inn over this establishment. Would we try it again? Eh: Queen Bee said she might but jury still out...parenthetically, this place was jammed full by the time we finally left over an hour later! Located just downtown he road from US19. They have a small parking lot in the back of the restaurant. Entering, you get a ver homey feel. They have their desserts on display. The have a vast menu, a little of everything for everyone. I went for the gyro plate and it was more than enough. I took the bread pudding to go and it had a subtle sweetness but would've loved a glaze or something to top it off. The service was great and fast! I have to be honest I was completely pulled in by the interior. I can't help it. It's something that I am drawn to in a restaurant. But I know that's not what people are looking for. So onto what's really important: The food and the service. Even though it was 1 o'clock my friend and I both chose breakfast items. The coffee was really good. No bitterness and fairly smooth. I had Scrambled eggs, corn beef hash, rye, toast, and home fries. The Ryebread was super awesome! Very flavorful marbled rye bread. The corn beef hash is fairly Typical, as were the eggs. The home fries were interesting and they were very thin, sliced more like scalloped, but everything was simple, clean and flavorful. My friend had the chicken steak with scrambled eggs, onions, and tomatoes with biscuit and gravy. She enjoyed all of it. We both wound up taking food home because the portions are so huge. It's been a year since my first and last review for Sunset Grill, a lot has changed since then. The quality of the food has definitely gone downhill. What was once my wife's favorite meal here (eggplant, Parmesan) has been a disappointment on three separate occasions. The last time it was just sent back and a different meal was ordered. The problem being it was burnt. The last meal my wife had on this night was fettuccine Alfredo. It was served as a congealed ball, so she asked for additional Alfredo sauce, well, that too came out very thick so it wasn't much help at all. She just chalked it up to a loss. My last meal there I ordered my favorite, roast turkey dinner. When the order was served, it did look like a somewhat smaller portion than usual, but nothing that I can do to change that. I noticed that a piece of my turkey was crispy on the edge, so I turn that piece and all the other pieces over to discover they all had been burnt too, all the burnt pieces of turkey looked like they were turned over and hidden. OK, that's the last straw so I asked my waitress to please get the manager she deflected and said oh well tell me what the problem is I said, no, I want to speak to the manager. when the manager came, I showed her my burnt turkey. She looked at it and said so you want another? Why yes I do! When my waitress brought out my new plate with turkey, there was no potatoes and stuffing with it?? I mean come on, who does this? so it makes me understand why the kitchen is rather screwed up when the manager doesn't know how to take care of the guests of the restaurant. So here's my theory. They don't care. They don't have to care. This restaurant is situated right on Sunset point Road right near one of the entrances to ( the over 55 retirement community ) On Top of The World. This is the closest restaurant to that development. They basically have a captive audience. So not that it makes any difference to this restaurant or management, but we've had our last meal here. read more

To cut to the chase, Sunset Grill serves very large portions of very average tasting meals. I chose eggplant Parmesan. It came with a salad which was a generous portion of average lettuce in average dressing. The eggplant parmigiana was a large amount of spaghetti & sauce, with only a very small amount of eggplant. The eggplant was very mushy, bland, & extremely disappointing. This was mainly a large spaghetti dish. The server was very kind & personable & was working very hard.
