A pretty good breakfast Sunday morning at the Country Skillet. We had good attentive service, and although it's not the fanciest place in town, it has been a staple in the community for decades. It's a very comfortable place to have some home cooking. I had a veggie omelette which included some nicely, made home fries, and I opted for white toast. Also added on some sausage patties, which were actually the only part of the meal I did not enjoy. They were fried for too long and very hard and really didn't have much flavor at all. The omelette itself was very nice, but could've used maybe a little salsa or something because it was a little on the dry side. But I did enjoy it. My friend had biscuits and gravy with a side of scrambled eggs and since he left absolutely nothing on the plate I think he must've enjoyed it! This was/shall be my last time there; at least Bella was working. That's the only real positive I can offer because the rest of it...well: not so much. As most are well aware, there is new ownership in place. The inside is more or less the same kitschy mishmash of 1950's junk. Outside has fresh paint and a facelift. Beyond those items, all I can say is their food quality has gone downhill. They still have a spot-on breakfast cook who made our food. Hostess was a heavy set lady who just pointed toward Bella's section when I requested to be sat there; initially we were led to a different section. So as we went to an empty table, hostess lady dropped off menus and a side plate of two room temperature chocolate chip muffins. Bite sized, underwhelming and totally unnecessary. One small bite was more than enough. Blech. While my steak skillet and the Queen Bee's over-medium eggs were quite passable, one thing I noticed was that the quality of ingredients has gone downhill. Perfect example was their home fries. The potatoes used for 'em were canned. There's no mistaking the undertone of salty, wet consistency even if the spud segments are griddled to death and back. I only tasted wet, salty canned taters and some onion. Not very well seasoned beyond that: no paprika, no nothing. The steak in the steak skillet was poorly seasoned as well. One bite would be a bit salty while the next one was bland as anything, and then the next bite had a lil too much pepper. Low quality chopped top round certainly doesn't make for as good a breffist skillet as well seasoned ribeye. Bella still knows what she's doing (she's been there long enough), as the sizable Sunday morning crowd could likely attest. The bulk of 'em were senior citizens whose taste buds may not likely be well tuned to superior quality chow. My sense is that a lotta these folks simply like the fairly reasonable prices on their newly printed menus. I didn't bother snapping any photos this time because quite honestly I didn't really feel very enthused about my experience there. Best of luck to the new owners because if the quality keeps sliding, I'm sure they're gonna need all the luck they can get. They surely won't be getting MY business ever again. I'll stick with Rizo's down further on East Bay instead. read more

Update on the home fries here...They no longer use the special seasoning or parsley on them...You can't even ask for it...They are plain Jane now...Nothing special about them...Too bad that really set them apart... I won't be coming back as often anymore. read more

The location couldn't be better because it's close to home. This place feels like you're walking into a true country kitchen. The decor and atmosphere overall give it that feeling. It was nice with lots of windows so the lighting was perfect. My friend and I went at 9am on a beautiful day (today, 5/8/2025). I ordered the Spanish skillet with an addition of mushrooms ($1 extra) and a biscuit. Everything was delicious! The biscuit was VERY good and I LOVE LOVE LOVE that they had orange marmalade as an option!!! Please don't take that away because not many places have that on the table as an option. My friend ordered a dish with eggs and she asked for over hard, but she got the scrambled. She didn't mention that mistake to anyone and didn't make a fuss as it wasn't that big of a deal, but they should be a bit more attentive to that. The cashier also messed up her change as she had cash (discount if paying by cash which is nice) and was giving her the credit total, but that was easily resolved. We hadn't been in a while and wanted something quick, easy and comforting. Decided to order to go, quoted 10-15 minutes and 40 minutes later we left with two plates of GARBAGE. My hot open faced turkey sandwich was NOT "fresh whole turkey roasted in house" it was lunch meat. Bad lunch meat. He got a French dip "served with aus jus" that was the same terrible brown "gravy" that my food was drenched in. His fries had to be at least a week old. This is right up there with the worst "food" I have ever had to deal with. DISGUSTING IS AN UNDERSTATEMENT. read more

I found the expansive menu interesting with a lot of good-sounding dishes. One of the first thing I noticed was the restaurant had that "this is where the locals eat" feel to it. Maybe it was the gentlemen sitting at the bar eating rather than one of the many tables, LOL. I had the shrimp and grits which also has bacon, and andouille sausage with cheese. I found the grits lacked seasoning but the sausage was very tasty and the shrimp was a good size. The side of corn beef hash was ok, not bad but the greatest. All in all, I think the menu is big enough that I will try it again. Oh, they're close to PIE so if you're looking for a place to eat close to the airport, I would recommend it. read more

So i get it is St. Patty's Day and we'll i get it a corned beef dinner will cost more. If i could give 0 stars i would. Bill for 2 corned beef and cabbages 69..00 and change thats with a 15% gratuity on a to go order. So it felt pretty heavy when I grabbed that bag so of course the foodie in me is getting a Lil excited thinking wow this is going to be great. What a huge Let down !! It was loaded.with fillers mostly cabbage and potatoes and sum carrots. The corned beef was shaved like you would get from a deli counter ( now makes wonder if they stopped at publix for their meat) and seriously each meal only had 4 pieces of corned beef. I think a Publix corned beef sub would of had the same if not more meat than both meals combined. We live right down the road our 1st. time and will be our last. The food was average at best, and in today's economy and inflation I get paying more but ripping people off isn't a smart business plan. read more

Staying at hotel next door which is another review on its own . They did not have room ready so went next door for a light lunch and wait . Truck was full of suitcases and other things . Why this important was a little attitude we got. We wanted sit by the door so keep eye on our stuff . One young lady said that section closed and had little attitude. But i may have been a little adamant about seeing truck !! Any way she said fine and we did not get service (15 min ) tell owner asked did we need anything. Thats when it got fantastic . Julia came up and was very good . Look forward to to a few more times while we are in hotel . Liver and onions were top notch .. gravy was good . Homemade Blue cheese was great . This is our go to restaurant. I love everything I've had there. When we have guests, we always take them there. While all the servers are good, we are particularly fond of Bella. I wanted to try something new and complete an online order for lunch. I ordered the grilled pork chops with mashed potato's and it came with corn. It is advertised on the website that lunch comes with a salad, bread roll and butter. I received everything but the dinner roll. I also ordered a chocolate chip cookie. The pork chop was cooked well but did not have any seasoning. The mashed potato was smooth and someone salty. The corn was canned corn. Salad was good as well and came with Italian dressing I ordered. I plan to give this place a chance again but order something different. The place was packed and seems to be a favourite. read more

We were taking our son to the PIE airport and needed some breakfast before dropping him off and came across this place. The service was good and the food was flavorful. Mixed Bag This is a standard diner serving three meals every day. The interior is pleasant and clean. Servers are busy and do a good job. Everything runs smoothly. I was there for breakfast and had some ham which was thick cut, nicely seared and very tasty. A biscuit was fluffy and flavorful with some nice crunch on the outside. After that, things slipped a bit. The scrambled eggs were good but could have been fluffier. The grits had the right consistency--slightly crunchy and neither soupy nor sticky. Unfortunately, they needed more flavor and I had to add a lot of salt, pepper and butter. The real downfall was the French toast. It was completely soggy on the inside and was inedible. I took it home to dry it out and crisp it up in the toaster oven. Nothing really stood out that would make me want to return. Having said that, I'm sure that a lot of people will find the place comfortable and homey and pretty good. read more

Looking for a place that served beef liver and onions for my 93 year old father in law. Came across the place on line and decided to give them a try. Inside your typical diner decor. Service friendly and fast. Dinners come with soup or a salad. The soup was a little salty but homemade. The salad was huge and blue cheese fresh and tasty. The liver was a hit! Nice portion and also came with mashed potatoes and peas. I got the beef stir fry. Loved it!! Hubby got the burger. HUGE! And blue cheese crumbles on top yum yum. Mom got the pot roast special. Meh. We were seated immediately upon entering. The place was busy but there were still several tables open. I counted six servers but it was over ten minutes before ours showed up. There was a girl who came by the table as soon as we sat down. She took our drink orders and, for the record, a good cup of coffee would have kept me from mentioning the wait. When this girl returned, I was informed that they were out of coffee and I'd have to wait for them to finish brewing more. I asked if I could get an order of cheese curds while we wait and she said, "oh, I'm not your waitress." She said she would tell our waitresses we wanted some but we never got any. If you order potato pancakes in a German restaurant you get some delightful fried cakes of potato. Potato pancakes here are pancakes with hashbrowns mixed in. Not good at all. I did get an extra egg with my meal at no charge. So that's something. Everything else was pretty much run-of-the-mill diner food. Nothing to complain about but certainly nothing to justify a 20-minute car ride, either. read more

Parking in premises. This looks like a regular dinner, with dinner decor, prices and service. Families come for breakfast and talk to the friendly staff as if they are close friends and see each other every day. This also looks like is a family owned and operated business. the food come out fast and the coffee was hot. I did have a bit of weird response to their coffee but prob was my system and I don't feel that there was anything wrong with their coffee at all. MONTE CRIST SANDWICH- my bf ate that and this is his favorite meal here, he loved as always and had only good things to say abut it. STEAK AND EGGS- this one is usually a hit or miss in paces, specially diner like places. I asked for medium well steak and got a well steak so it was pretty rubbery and the eggs were also over had more than over medium, it was a pity because the meal looked pretty good and the serving size here is pretty generous. This is not a particularly impressive diner and this is my second experience with diners in the area and I am not impressed with any of them so far, so diners are no the Floridians Forte I musts so far. read more

Country skillet is a hidden gem in Clearwater/Largo. It's a pretty nice sized diner that has a very broad menu and the best prices. I tend to go here when I'm craving something heavy or comfort food. They also offer lightning fast takeout so that's an option if you're not looking to dine in. I would recommend getting their breakfast sandwich if you're craving breakfast. The sandwich is big and I believe it's less than $5. They have the best thick-cut bacon in town and you can request it on your sandwich as well as a variety of cheeses or fried/scrambled eggs. For lunch, nothing hits the spot more than the open face sandwiches. They have turkey with a light gravy and a roast beef with a dark gravy. It's also served with mashed potatoes. You may feel 5 pounds heavier after eating it but it's so worth it. read more

Be aware that it is very expensive for what it is. We went for breakfast and the omelettes were advertised as being made with 3 large eggs. They were small for a three egg omelette and filling was sparse. Slightly undercooked. Almost runny. Cheap processed cheese. All for the price of $15. They don't offer an a la carte menu so were we charged full price even though we only had the omelette with no sides. The waitress was attentive and the coffee was good. I was a bit hesitant to eat out but I was pleased when I walked in and noticed seating was maximized to practice social distancing. This was my first time here but considering the altered patron pattern I really can not attest to wait time as times have changed temporarily. The waitress we had was extremely helpful in answering our question. She took the time to selective explain the popular items which helped my indecisive brothers and I narrow our decision greatly. My brothers went with the Ultimate Combo as I had the New Orleans French toast. According to my brothers the portion was really good but the pancakes were even better!! We have been regulars every Friday night until last night! We have been eating here over a year every Friday night. I have explored this menu and enjoyed every thing. With a new owner coming in just a few months ago every thing seemed to stay the same UNTIL 2-29-25 I have eaten the buffalo chicken sandwich many times and the best cook Daniel had never let me down. When our food came from our ever so friendly wonderful server Kala I was surprised at the very old stale wheat bun ( this was a wonderful brioche roll before) with a big fresh piece of fried chicken with hot sauce lettuce tomato and pickle's. The chicken was some kind of thin pressed patty this was not even eatable as Kala came back to see if every thing was ok I explained this was a horrible experience and was not even eatable. She went 3 times to speak to the owner even took my plate to show him. As I watched him arguing with her behind the swinging doors of the kitchen after waiting the entire time my husband ate his really good patty melt she came back an said he will take the sandwich off . I did eat the French fries and he was giving her what seemed to be such a hard time I told her I'll pay for the fries!! Then he comes to our table to say this wasn't his fault he only got the buns that were delivered... so is it my fault that the bread is not good?? He only wanted to defend his really bad excuse of servicing really bad food, I was worried when this old favorite place sold things would change and boy did they!! Between his behavior and the way he treated a good customer we well find a new Friday night place! I understand food is expensive never have I cared that a meal for. 2 with 2 sandwiches with frozen bag French fries were 35-40 dollar because the food and service were great now I cared!! I love this place not only because the food and atmosphere, but also because of their excellent service, everry time is a wonderful experience, this past weekend I had a special order request and Bela, our waitress brought my food exactly as I wanted, she was so nice, friendly and welcoming. There was also a time we came and they were very busy, they apologized and gave us some sweet bread when we sat so that we can have something to eat while we wait to be served; there was also a time that our order took a bit longer than usuall and they proactively gave us more bacon on our order.
