Don't sleep on Sandbar Grill. It is kind of unassuming being on the edge of a parking lot in a shopping center, but this location is perfect. It is at the corner of entry road to amazing Honeymoon Beach. Very easy to get to, lots of parking and space. I finally made it to this local gem, and will definitely be back. Looks like kind of an older crowd but I don't mind. We went on Christmas Eve and Santa came to have drinks later in the day. Very festive atmosphere. The waitress was friendly, attention, and had nice style (clothing). Place is clean and small, but has lots of seating in a variety of places (patio, deck, bar). The food was awesome. Lot of fried options in additional to grilled ones, but the batter is seasoned decently and not too thick. You can't trust fried pickles everywhere, but these were great. I even got my extra food to go and could still taste the pickle taste the next day. So so good. Very affordable too. Like I said this is a local spot, so lots of specials and money goes a long way. I would not hesitate to go again on my way back from the beach. read more

I'm gonna give this a 3 because the servers were great! The bar is like a dive diner at the corner of a strip mall parking lot on the way to honeymoon island. The location was convenient after a long beach walk. The prices here are pretty decent. My friend ordered a Chicago dog and said it was really good. My meal, which was fish and chips, was not good. The fries were undercooked and not crisp. And the fish.... It was clearly old and had been in the freezer a while. Then, it soaked up so much grease that the breading was not edible. I pulled out the fish and covered it in both lemon and vinegar to make it palatable. The drinks were cold and reasonably priced. I may go there again if just getting cocktails, but I'd likely pass on the bar food. read more

Two good things here: The food servers and the live music. Everything else, mediocre at best. The clientele was a little rough, shouting over top of each other and cursing loudly. Wow! This place has really gone downhill. We used to come a few times a month but moved deeper into Clearwater. It has been approx one year since last visit. Waitress was sweet but.... Cheese curds were burnt and just yuck ( my daughter pulled off all the batter, the "ceasar salad" was a garden salad with a splash of powdered Parmesan. The grouper sandwich was so thin and flavorless and just meh. The extra 1.50 for fries, really? Tiny portion of overcooked fries straight from the freezer. The pulled pork grilled cheese was so loaded it couldnt be picked up and had no " grilled cheese" feel to iy. Very reasonable prices. Live music is awesome. This is a no frills old florida style restaurant. Gumbo is ok a little lacking on the seafood but the smoked fish dip is awesome. Side bar they do all the smoking on site so any item with smoked meat/fish is going to be a hit. I would recommend if you have just come from the beach or fishing and definitely no need to clean up before coming. Also, service is quick! read more

Went there after a day at the honeymoon beach. Shelby was our server. She was great and so was the food. Live music played while we sipped outside . Where can you get a pint of beer for $2.75?? We had coconut shrimp, grouper in Caesar salad and a grouper Reuben sandwich. Our granddaughter had chicken nuggets. The wife had two margaritas $5 each. Food was ok overall. 3 stars for good overall experience because I'm not tempted to come back because service was not attentive ( sadly) All fried food was perfect temp & crispy though ! Burger was fine although order was taken incorrectly. I ordered a bacon cheese burger medium with mayo only - I did mention twice to the server NO ketchup or mustard.... however burger came with EVERYTHING on it . Unfortunately we were swayed to come here due to the reviews of other customers. We orders a BLT and chicken wings and a fish and chips. The food was quick however they brought the appetizers with the entrees. The BLT bacon was literally raw, completely rubber and looked old. Asked about replacing the sandwich and the waitress wrote it off and never said anything and charged full price for the meal. The bill for 3 drinks 2 apps and 3 entrees was 94 dollars to boot for a bar and grill. Food was overpriced and disgusting and would not remake meal or take off of bill. I'm on vacation here staying with a friend who lives on the causeway. She had never been here so we decided to give it a try. The service was fun and friendly. Drinks (lemon drop was way to lemony). Margarita was ok. Food was not good other than the coconut shrimp which was ok. The nachos were terrible- chips overcooked and toppings yucky. We told the server to advise the kitchen that the sour cream was rancid. The burger was overcooked and fries were cold. Music was decent. Zero Covid protocol here and changed the fish n chips to three little pieces of what appeared to be frozen fish however it was freshly battered and under fried so batter was gooey and gross. Offered to cover my two Coronas to make up for it. Then the guy next to me ordered a burger medium and got a small what appeared to be frozen patty with no flavor.....uuuggghh!! Not sure if the older blonde lady is an owner or manager but had she not been sitting outside drinking with guests perhaps she would see and hear what is going on here. The guy next to me and I both complained, she told him he was a liar, but she listened to me and said they had a new cook there and she was going to talk to him immediately. Been wanting to stop by here for years and finally did after last night's sunset at Honeymoon Island. What I will say is that the service here is extraordinarily friendly and thorough. I'm really keen on a restaurant who has servers who will walk by and check on the status of patrons whether they're in their "section" or not. 2 or 3 times, we had wait staff other than our server ask us if we needed anything. Good job Sandbar. As for the food, what I will say is that's it's good, but not the best. But the prices are really good. For example, I had a blackened grouper sandwich (see Gigi's pic) and it was only $9. I've never had such an inexpensive grouper sandwich, so I was obviously happy about the price. What I found odd, especially since half of the food on the menu is fried, is that there was no option for a fried grouper sandwich. I'm trying to avoid fried food, so it was probably for the best, but I think the option should be there. La Chica had potato skins, which is one of her favorite bar foods, and they made a huge mistake by pumping squeeze cheese on them. Were we at the movie theater or a bar? Sooooooo strange. If you scrape of the cheez-whiz, they're damn good. Not a bad place overall, but not sure if I'd go back. I liked the live music outside because the guy was playing some jams from the late 70's, but there are a lot of other places close by that might be a little better in regards to their food. read more

Best ribs / authentic St. Louis Style ribs in the area. I grew up in St. Louis and have tried what other restaurants in town call " St. Louis Style Ribs". I don't believe they have ever been to St. Louis. If you want the meaty, fall off the bone ribs like they actually make in St. Louis, Sandbar Grill has the best!!! We came here as a group of 7 plus a dog, because the dog's owners knew the Sandbar Grill welcomed four-legged friends. After a day on the water, I enjoyed dining at this ultra casual restaurant. And because of its location, on the Dunedin Causeway near Honeymoon Island, we had an easy drive home to Town & Country via Curlew. We sat on the deck outside, and it seems the only *inside* seating is at the long bar. Of note, the ladies restroom was unbearably stuffy & hot; the small table top fan was nearly negligible. Service was fine, although we had 3 different servers during our meal, with zero explanation. As you might imagine, I didn't get the name of any of them. The food was good... I had a burger with provolone cheese, and enjoyed it. Nothing was outstanding, but everyone received solid portions & good flavor with our meals. The laid-back atmosphere is perfect after a day outdoors, and I'm sure I will return the next time I'm enjoying nearby beaches. read more

As I live about a half mile away from the Sandbar, I still could not say better than our visitor from San Fran! I will say the burgers taste like they just came off the backyard grill. The Mahi Mahi Sandwich ( I selected the lemon-pepper choice) was delicious. And pitchers of beer are cheap! :) A group of us worked on the front entrance lawn to our neighborhood. This is a place you'd drive by a few times and think, "Uh, is that a trailer? I shouldn't eat there." But, you'd be wrong. You should definitely eat here. Yes, this place is a double wide with a patio but what it lacks in actual walls it makes up for in charm and fun. My boyfriend and I randomly stopped here one night after a tough workout. We were starving and a salad just wasn't gonna cut it. I was craving a burger and fries while my boyfriend ordered the Thursday night sirloin special. Neither item disappointed. The fries were perfection and while my burger wasn't a stand out, it was exactly what I wanted. The boyfriend loved his sirloin and mashed potatoes and didn't leave any on the plate. To close out our post workout pig out we ordered the $1 shooter desserts which was basically a little cup of butter pecan ice cream with some delicious syrup drizzle. They were perfect. I don't know why I love the thought of this place as it sits in the parking lot of a strip mall. I guess if you imagine hard enough you can me sitting next to the water. We finally stopped in as we were getting our bicycle fixed next door. Seat yourself indoors or outdoors. Menus were on the table. We were given water in styrofoam cups which was nice as the water glasses tend to sweat a lot here. Our order was eventually taken and we were going to try the mahi wrap which comes with chips. The food took about 15 minutes to make it to our table only after the waitress noticed it was taking too long. The sandwich was great! HUGE piece of fish. A nice blend of tomatoes and ranch. The blackened was a nice touch with a bit of spice. The menu is decent as are the prices. Service was good (the lady was very nice) but when we asked for our check it never made it to our table. We walked to the cash register and she figured out she had forgotten to give it to us. Dog friendly patio. Bike parking. Fairly clean open air dining experience. Kid friendly. Beer choices not great but we did later notice a sign that says they have Reef Donkey (not on the menu.) $4. Dining experience was good. The food was fantastic.
