I don't know why I love the thought of this place as it sits in the parking lot of a strip mall. I guess if you imagine hard enough you can me sitting next to the water. We finally stopped in as we were getting our bicycle fixed next door. Seat yourself indoors or outdoors. Menus were on the table. We were given water in styrofoam cups which was nice as the water glasses tend to sweat a lot here. Our order was eventually taken and we were going to try the mahi wrap which comes with chips. The food took about 15 minutes to make it to our table only after the waitress noticed it was taking too long. The sandwich was great! HUGE piece of fish. A nice blend of tomatoes and ranch. The blackened was a nice touch with a bit of spice. The menu is decent as are the prices. Service was good (the lady was very nice) but when we asked for our check it never made it to our table. We walked to the cash register and she figured out she had forgotten to give it to us. Dog friendly patio. Bike parking. Fairly clean open air dining experience. Kid friendly. Beer choices not great but we did later notice a sign that says they have Reef Donkey (not on the menu.) $4. Dining experience was good. The food was fantastic. Frozen garbage out of box. We ordered fried shrimp and scallops. Both were thickly breaded from the food manufacturing plant, worse than bad frozen fish sticks. The "scallops" weren't whole scallops if they were even scallops, but they came out raw/still frozen in the middle. The owner PRO-RATED our refund because we cracked open three to confirm they were raw. Just unbelievable trash. This is a place to go to drink swill (not eat) if you like breathing exhaust with the noise of a busy intersection and lousy guitar player while overlooking an oil-stained parking lot. read more

Don't know if I hit the Sandbar on an off night, but I was really disappointed with my meal. The service was atrocious, in spite of being one of only 3 tables being occupied that night. Getting anyone to our table was like pulling teeth, and that includes after chasing down a waitress who said she'd "be right back." I'm not sure what her definition of "right back" is, but it's definitely not "soon" I had the barbecue pork plate and beans. The pork was disappointing. Very dry and overcooked. Beans were ok, but nothing to write home about. I got down a little less than half the meal and took what I didn't eat home. After thinking about it overnight, I had no idea why I'd do such a silly thing, and I tossed it in the trash. I'm not sure I have a reason to go back and give it another shot. It is, after all, pretty much a trailer with a patio in the middle of a parking lot in Dunedin. Here are my go-to orders at the Sandbar: -Coconut shrimp: fried to perfection with this amazing sweet apricot sauce. Order it. Just do it. -Jalapeno popper: see above minus the sweet apricot sauce. -Onion rings: see above. Are we sensing a theme yet? :) -Steak and cheese: melty, cheesy, goodness. Sandbar Grill isn't a tourist trap, and among the coastal seafood places in the Tampa area, that's a big relief. I was in town for some business, and was heading towards Honeymoon Island State Park, looking for food. After not really seeing anything, my friend an I decided to pull over at this definitively shack-looking place. Best. Decision. Ever. Sandbar Grill won't get any big points for decor or style. Pretty much a beach shack perched in a parking lot, it's a pretty rough and tumble spot. A bar runs along the main length of the place, where diners can watch their food cook. A smaller seating area is off to the side, populated with old-fashioned picnic tables. However, out on their "porch" lies more outdoor seating, with a great view of...well, the road. And there's no real "indoor" seating, as every side of the building is screened in - and nothing more, letting the sea breeze off the Gulf blow in. The menu at Sandbar is sort of roadside fish-stand standard fare, with a variety of fish sandwiches/wraps, fried goods, and for those not feeling the fruits of the sea, burgers and chicken. I settled for a blackened grouper wrap, and a key lime pie. I was rewarded with large and plentiful chunks of grouper, tender in every way, seasoned to perfection, wrapped in a tortilla with a touch of Ranch sauce, tomatoes, and lettuce. Just thinking about it now makes me hungry. My friend ordered a blackened mahi mahi sandwich, and that looked incredible as well, a large succulent filet steak on a bun, smothered with a healthy dollop of tartar sauce an melted cheese. Sandbar doesn't make their own desserts, but whoever they buy them from makes a mean key lime pie. While I would've preferred my pie to be a little tangier, it was a beautiful combination of tang, smoothness, and sweet, a perfect finish to a great wrap, and wonderfully befitting of Sandbar's coastal spot. The service is very neighborhood, in that you're not going to find anyone really bending over backwards to make you happy. But as we waited to order, it was clear that the wait staff knew the locals, greeting them by name as they walked in. There is no table service - your name is called when your food's ready to be picked up, paid for, and enjoyed. Whether you're a local or just a tourist visiting the Clearwater area, Sandbar is a fantastic place to get a seafood fix. Bypass all the chains with nautical themes and kitschy names, and stop by Sandbar Grill. It's cheaper than those places, and the food's better. read more

Sandbar is a no frills, bare bones stop for fried & grilled food. The eating area is surrounded by screening so whatever the temperature is outdoors is exactly the same inside the screening. Today it was 94 degrees when we ate. So right off the bat, eating is not comfortable. To make matters worse, there was loud music blasting through some ancient speakers. That made eating uncomfortable. The tables & chairs were dirty so that made eating uncomfortable. I ordered a burger for my lunch & requested it cooked medium. It arrived well done. The size of the burger however was excellent, & the toppings were fresh enough. The service was fine too. My advice is to go with low expectations if you decide to dine here. read more

I was in Tampa for the day for work, and was looking for a quick bite. But I also wanted to see some sand and some sun before heading back home to NY. So I looked on Yelp and found this place! Initially I had a hard time actually finding the place (as it's behind the Mobil gas station), but I finally found it, and plunked myself down on one of their picnic tables. The server was super sweet (and I think she called me "hon" which I found to be charming), and she recommended the mahi mahi wrap which was SPOT ON. The fish was cooked perfectly, with a hint of ranch, wrapped with lettuce and tomato in a wrap. YUM. She refilled my iced green tea often which was nice, and even gave me a top for it when I left so that I wouldn't spill it all over myself in the car. All in all, a great find, and hope to come back sometime when I'm back in Tampa!! If I lived closer I can so see myself being a regular here. read more

Very good experience here. Keep in mind it's outdoor amphitheater.....We were sat and served within the first two steps of the door. The Food was amazing.. to give this a fair review we ordered fried mushrooms, hot wings, grouper,barbecue chicken, barbecue ribs, coleslaw, baked beans, french fries, etc. EVERY BIT OF IT was delicious and cooked fresh! They are super casual - basically just a screened in bar with tables on a deck. They are a great place to stop on your way back from Honeymoon Island. The beer is ice cold & cheap. Order it in a bottle if you don't like draft beer that comes in plastic cups. The bacon cheese burgers are super! The bun is great and the bacon is crispy. Their wings are also really good. Their french fries are perpetually soggy. I gave up asking for crispy fries and just have the potato chips instead. They have a large selection of random items on their menu, I mean who serves Salisbury steak any more?? I think they have one of the best cheese burgers in the Dunedin/Palm Harbor area. read more

It is nothing more than a local dive bar. Prices are Ok, but most of the food is fried. Better places on the Causeway are Hurricane Eddies and Frenchy's. If you want great seafood, check out the Bar Fly Fish Shack in Palm Harbor. It's just a 2 miles away in historic Palm Harbor district. Many other bars and eateries in the same area. Very good little roadside stand! My gf and I were going to honeymoon island to go kayaking and wanted to stop somewhere along the way. We stopped at the Sandbar Grill with the thought of it would be fast and cheap, plus if it's made it being in a parking lot it has it be ok! We ordered the blackened grouper wrap and a chicago hot dog. The grouper was so yummy! Some of the best cooked fish I had while in the area and I ate at some nice places. The chicago dog was different and I enjoyed it but my gf LOVED it! Overall a very good experience and I will def. come back when I'm in the area. I would put this place in my top 3 places when I came down here for a month and I ate at a good amount of restaurants. We were starving and Frenchy's had no parking so we decided to give this place a try. It was not a good idea. We waited 15 minutes for someone to take our drink order and then another 10 to get the sodas. We ordered some appetizers and once those came out, the waitress didn't come back to take our lunch order for another 25 minutes. After we ordered it took at least 45 minutes!! I was so sad, my entire day was just spent out at this restaurant. The food wasn't special, I got a grilled cheese and the cheese was not even melted. My husbands burger was burnt. The gator tail was awful. The only redeeming factor was the seafood bisque. Overall a horrible experience. Next time, we will wait for Frenchy's. read more

8/19/17 I ate there today with my wife. Over the years Ive spent a lot of money there. We ordered 3 Chicago dogs. They tasted terrible. They were not Vienna hot dogs. The waitress verified they were some no name brand. There was no celery salt. If you're going there for an authentic Chicago dog, stay home and save your money. Don't go to The Sandbar Grill in Dunedin. I will never eat there again. If the owner is willing to save money and buy cheap hot dogs to improve the margins, what else on the menu is crap. It's okay. I got scallops and shrimp. Real fresh seafood however I did not like the breading. It was too coarse, maybe it was corn bread crumbs. The place was very quick to get my food up, Different waitresses helped me. Good in that department. I had a good time but if the place was freshened up a bit I would of gave it another star. I sat on the side and it was cluttered looking at soda machine stuff that should be out of sight and dirty ceiling with discoloration. Easy fixes. This is a fun little shack on the side of the road at the entrance of the Dunedin Causeway. Its a "burger joint" for sure. I ate here a few times back in college. On this visit I ordered the special sirloin. It was as expected and the sides it came with were very good. My GF ordered the Burger, and it was good. They offered us $1 Shooters that was butter pecan soft serve and syrup. It was the perfect size and nice way to get a desert but not too much. Love gator and you just can't find it everywhere, so when I see it I order it! It was absolutely delicious and cooked spot on, oh yeah the memories were coming back. My friend had the blackened grouper sandwich, which of course I sampled, we both loved it, it was teriffic, no complaints on any food. This is an old established, roadside bar and grill. It is picnic tables in a parking lot, It sure doesn't look like much from the outside. But you will notice many vehicles and a lot of people, that always tells some kind of a story. Service and decor are definately not a priority, food is the priority, as it should be. What's a girl to do? If you're looking for an ultra causal and some good simple eats, this is the place. Easy to find and quick to get in. The staff and owner are so friendly. I always see the owner going around greeting patrons and chatting it up. I've never had to wait too long for my food, 15 mins max. On average under 10 mins. Took a seat at the rain soaked particle board tables that had swollen to such an impressive size that they bumped off their rubber side-stripping. I find this sort of thing amusing, and the live music was great with a beachy food truck feel. Service was great, very attentive, and the drinks were fairly priced. I'd stick to the beer here, since they have Malt Liquor beverages that taste surprisingly like vodka, but in the end, it's all vodka or rum flavored beer. I gazed skyward and felt dwarfed with patriotism as I realized I was being covered by the hugest looming American Flag I'd ever seen. So why two stars? I ordered potater skins,fried mushrooms and a grouper sammich. All covered in so much grease that I was slightly disgusted, and I LOVE grease. It might have been that the squeeze cheese on my tater skins offended me since they went thru the trouble of adding real, large strips of delectable bacon, and then ruined it with Squeeze Cheese! My husband and I stopped there for lunch Saturday, 9/3/2011. It looked and smelled like a great place to stop. The seating was good. The server was really nice. We both ordered the grouper fingers basket for $8.95 each. The baskets came and we were shocked to see a child size serving of grouper fingers. Four small "fingers" and a ton of french fries....for $8.95. We also ordered sweet tea, for extra, and were shocked when it came in medium sized styrofoam cups and discovered you only get one refill. The grouper fingers were good, but the amount is unacceptable for the price we paid. We've had fresh, better, larger portions of grouper for less than what we paid Saturday. Waited quite some time for the order and failed to check it before i left because i was running late and was in a hurry to surprise my wife at home.
