Fatty Fish Shack is always a solid option for a laid-back Florida afternoon. We stopped in for the covered outdoor seating and live music after spending the day relaxing in a hammock on the Dunedin Causeway -- and it hit the spot. I love that the outdoor area is covered, so you still get the fresh air without the sun beating down on you. It was surprisingly slow this visit (I've been here before when it was packed), but service was still easygoing and the drinks were reasonably priced for what you get. We tried the smoked mahi fish dip -- definitely a standout, super flavorful and worth ordering. The West Connecticut lobster roll was good, and while the coleslaw was a little on the dry side, the potato salad made up for it. I've been coming to Fatty's Fish Shack since it opened and before, but a recent visit made it clear things have gone downhill and I won't be back until management changes. Some staff have been rude and inconsiderate, and it hasn't been an isolated incident but a pattern I've noticed over recent visits. One specific example: on a stormy, rainy evening with a heavier-than-usual crowd, a server named Lars brought his electric bike in from the rain and parked it on the handicap access ramp. This blocked the ramp entirely, so families with children and babies in strollers couldn't get through and had to go around through the stairs and get soaked in the rain just to get inside. When I said something to Lars about it, I was called out by the manager, Manuyel, instead of the issue being addressed. Moments you wish fire department would step in. Owners obviously have no real interest in this place since the staff has taken over to make it their own personal hangout while "trying" to service it as a restaurant. It's so obvious when it's happy hour for them, as you clearly see them making themselves drinks, specifically Jack Daniels and Jim Beam, and taking shots to the kitchen. It also feels like the business is cutting corners to stay afloat. Beer prices have dropped dramatically, which seems to be drawing a rowdier crowd, and the live music, which used to be a real draw here, has been scaled back to cheaper acts with noticeably lower quality. Our waiter was definitely slow to get our order for drinks and food. I had the lobster roll warm and I could've swore on the menu it said it came with other stuff, but it was really just some lobster in a Texas toast roll. The coleslaw was incredibly dry and I was not a fan of their potato salad. The mahi fish dip was actually really good. It tasted fresh. And the Long Island iced tea I had was strong. We went back for Open Mic and a drink. Sat at the bar and ordered the nachos with the beans. Holy, these had to be some of the best nachos I've ever had. Lots of cheese and pulled chicken. We ended up here on a whim. We were checking out the new "downtown market" and there wasn't much to eat at it so we saw this was walking distance and decided to check it out! Really glad we did! The prices were great, the food we ordered was well done. I really liked the fish sandwich. The tacos were just okay. Drinks are great price. We got there just before lunch but most of the tables shortly filled up and they had a live performance going. It was really nice! Their indoor seating is really small so if you don't like eating outdoors, it's probably not the place for you, but it's well shaded, and they do have fans/heaters. read more

Was so excited to try this spot. In the mix with 7-8 other hopping restaurants, this should have been a great meal. Got seated and met our server, Morgan, the star of the evening. Ordered mussels and fries as an app, along with some drinks. The sauce was good, but about 1/3 were dead and closed....so? The fish and chips was obviously just frozen chunks of cod thrown into a fryer and tossed on a plate, the grey/black color just isn't appealing. The grilled grouper sandwich was good, the lone savior of the meal. Mahi mahi with pineapple salsa was so overcooked, we thought we were being punked. This was a favorite spot of ours They always had a number of different oysters on special. Saturday we had company from Philly and bragged about this place. We were seated immediately but the waitress did not show up for 20 minutes. After placing drink orders, it took another 20 minutes to receive them. She then took our food order which took 30 minutes to be served. Most of our guests were pleased with the food but not all. I ordered the crab cake sandwich. It came out burnt. I would have sent it back, but never saw the waitress. I picked through it and found it had very little crab and was all stuffing. One of our party ordered the mac and cheese with crab and again very little crab. We were very disappointed. I know it is challenging to have good help these days but someone needs to monitor what is going on in the restaurant. My son stopped by to say hello to everyone and ordered 2 quesadillas to go. He was in a hurry and just paid the bill. I looked at it afterwards and saw there was no slip that broke down the charges. After reviewing the menu saw he was overcharged $10. Would have complained but again the waitress was no where to be found! Will not be coming back as there are so many options in Pinellas. read more

They do have a happy hour menu but it wasn't given when you sit down so you have to ask them to tell you what is on the happy hour menu. My dinner the grouper came out about 10 min after everyone else had their food and they didn't really address the issue. We had the Smoked Salmon appetizer and I had the Mahi sandwich. Both were delicious. We've been here a lot and they often have excellent music. Parking is pretty easy in this neighborhood as well. There's a lot of typical bar food on the menu but I would appreciate a better salad selection and more info on brews they serve. read more

I'm leaving 4 stars because the Greek salad was one of the best! The only thing I would add is peppercinis. The beer was not cold. We got a Red Stripe and a PBR so Mr. Manager please make the beer colder! We live in Florida and if you have an outside bar you need ice cold beer. Put it on ice, if necessary. Thanks so much. We also got the fish spread. Small portion and 3 pieces of celery and four crackers. If the portion has to remain small at least give us some cheap veggies. Maybe 2 more pieces of celery and a few carrot sticks. Can you up the crackers too. It was good just too little food. Music was good, service not the best. That's all. We had an opportunity to visit during our trip to Palm Harbor/Tarpon Springs. We went to fireside the night before and heard the band play at Fattys Fish Shak. We thought, let's check this place out the next day. We went for the first time and will be the last time. We ordered calamari and alligator bites. The calamari was over cooked and not good. Breading was horrible. Barely dredged in the coating. We returned the appetizer. Alligator bites were ok. Overpriced for them We had a party of 5; we ordered the lobster Mac and cheese and crab Mac and cheese. It looks appealing on the menu, BAD. Too much pasta, no flavor, very disappointing. My first time being back to this place since it changed from Bar Fly. I really like what they've done to the place. The menu is fresh and has a wide variety of options from burgers to seafood. I opted for the crab cake sandwich and was very pleased. The tartar sauce tasted homemade and the crab cake was full of lump crab and not overly bready. We only discovered this place less than 2 weeks ago. We have ordered 4 times & loved everything! I kept eyeing that pretzel but thought it can't be worth $12.50. Well, I decided to try it anyways.
