I've wanted to go to Basque so badly for awhile now, and to be honest I still haven't! My wife doesn't eat seafood, is a picky eater, and they aren't really calibrate for kids meals as far as I can see. The place is pretty, the people are friendly, it's off the main drag of Main St, so hoping to do so soon. For now, need to rave that they are the absolute KINGS of the Tarrytown street fair that happens once a year. I look forward to getting their food every year. They offer chorizo, 2 types of paella (seafood vs meat) and gazpacho. The seafood paella is my go to, and it's the best I've ever had. They do not skimp on the portion or the quality; it had shrimp, calamari, clams, mussels and scallops. It's all top quality and delicious. Price point is downright cheap, especially compared to others who gouge at the street fair (looking at you, PikNik bbq). Chorizo is also good quality, and a cheap meal unto itself. Other options at the Street Fair are good too (ie: Taqueria Poblanita nearby), however I will never stop loading up on the good stuff here. read more

I finally found a true authentic tapas restaurant! The dishes reminded me of my trip to Spain. The fellow patrons were so friendly and everyone is always recommending dishes to each other at different tables. I came to the Tarrytown location because Piermont doesn't have the fried eggplant (my favorite)! The menu is large and I definitely need multiple visits so I can try everything. Came here during a guys night and I thought everything was exceptional. The restaurant is very busy so I definitely suggest making reservations ahead of time. Luckily we made reservations so when we arrived our table was ready. The place is medium sized, I would saying about 20-30 tables. The atmosphere makes it seem homey like you can sit for hours. Full bar. The restaurant specializes in tapas so be prepared to share small plates. If that's not your thing they do have other plates that aren't sharing. Service was great. We actually got to know our waiter and where's he from. Nice to connect with others who are willing to connect. Food was great. The tapas menu wasn't extremely long so we found a few dishes that we liked and we kept ordering the same stuff. Food is delicious. So many flavors with every bite. My favorite was the steak salad. I've never had a salad be so filling and with a generous portion of steak. Basque Tapas Bar is not new to me - I had initially discovered them a couple years ago when I visited their other location in Piermont and had an excellent experiences. I quickly learned of this location in Tarrytown, and made it my intention to check them out. That time came the other night when my dad chose Basque to celebrate his birthday; needless to say I was excited, so off we went. The Basque in Tarrytown is located on Main St in the thick of the village's commercial area. It's not a huge restaurant but they have more space than their Piermont location; the main room houses the bar and a few tables, and there are a couple of side rooms as well plus a room in the back (where we were seated). The decor was subtle - mostly a bright color scheme with splashes of color and some art on the walls. Basque is the real deal - not only does it smell amazing the moment you walk in, but they have the Certified Quality Restaurants from Spain credential. The star of the menu are tapas and paella, though they also have some meat and cheese boards, a selection of soups and salads, and some large format dishes. But first, a drink - the red sangria was really good and not overly sweet. After browsing the menu, we decided to split a bunch of tapas, a meat and cheese board, and order a paella. For the tapas we got the shrimp with garlic sauce, ham croquettes, chorizo, patatas bravas, lamb chops, fried Manchego cheese, fried eggplant, and filet mignon tips. All of the dishes were delicious - I really couldn't find fault to any, though the biggest standouts for me were the shrimp and the beef tips. The shrimp was seasoned really well and doused in garlic (no problem for me), and the beef was really tender and paired with vinegar peppers which added a good level of spice. For a board we got the Iberico ham and mixed cheeses - this was good as well. They were generous with the portions and the flavors worked well together. Finally, for the paella we decided to get the surf and turf. In addition to the rice base, it contained beef strips, mini lobster tails, scallops, tomato, and onion sofrito. This was really good - since we were a party of six, we got the size that feeds four to five people and even at that the portion was more than enough for all of us. While the rice was a smidge overcooked, the positives of the dish outweighed it. We opted for dessert, and I got the graham cracker gelato which was excellent; the flavor was on point and contained little graham bits which added to the texture. Service was great - everyone was friendly, food came out at a good pace, and the operations were super efficient; they're a well-oiled machine. Visited Basque Tapas Bar in Tarrytown recently with a colleague. It had been on my radar for a while, but for whatever reason I didn't make it there...especially while dining solo. Just needed a nudge! So, he chose the place and we had an absolutely wonderful meal. We decided to share: ordered the empanadas as an appetizer and the seafood paella as our main course. The paella was supposed to ONLY be for two people, but it could have easily fed a family of 12! (Ok... slight exaggeration, but you get the point....the portion was huge.) note: there is an option for four...I can only imagine how much food that is. Even though the portion was gigantic, we did quite a good job on polishing more than 80% of it off. The seafood was fresh and delicious while the rice was cooked perfectly. This was one of the best paella dishes I've had in a long time. The empanadas were also fantastic. My colleague had an adult beverage: one of their sangria choices and I had iced tea. Service was super friendly and really efficient. The table next to us ordered a bunch of different tapas items that I got to take a quick peek at. My experience with many other small plate restaurants is that the portions are really small, but even the small plates are pretty generous. We got here Friday night and it was busy early. Managed a spot at the bar and enjoyed a couple plates and drinks. The fried Manchego was fantastic as was the chorizo and the shrimp and garlic. Their bread with olive oil is really great as well. The ham croquettes were a little pasty but otherwise satisfying. What we had was plenty for the two of us so we didn't get to try the Marisco or Mariscada. We definitely want to come back here. read more

Did not expect such an excellent Spanish restaurant here. It's a very nice couple of rooms where they could jam more tables but they don't so you are not crowded. Nicely decorated. The tapas menu seemed great. we only had 2 and they were both excellent. The bouqerones were nicely marinated and served with red grilled peppers inside of some sort of leaf. Excellent. The ham croquetes were super crispy on the outside and gooey inside. The seafood in green sauce was a revelation. Full of fresh seafood: mussels, clams, shrimp and scallops. This is a tapas bar in Tarrytown. Been past it a few times without noticing but tucked away on one of the main streets. Parking is street parking or in the municipal lot which is a block or so away. Went with a group of 12 and ordered a bunch of different things. Our host ordered two paellas since they take a bit to prepare. They are huge and we could have gotten away with 1 with all the other stuff we ordered. Food was very good as was the service. And we all took leftovers. We'd been here about a half dozen times with good experiences. But this past Friday evening we had a very brusque server, who seemed very bored or annoyed at having to serve us. When asked how one of the menu items was, he shrugged his shoulders & said that customers liked it. He constantly came to the table to take plates away without asking if we were finished. He never came back to check how we liked our food. After we had dessert, he reached into table without askking if we had finished. He starting arguing with us & when my wife got up to complain, hegrabbed her shoulder & to her who the manager was. We immediately told him to keep his hands to himself. A manager interceded & followed the server to the station. The manager made excuses for the server but never offered anything to make amends. We paid the entire bill but would not leave a tip because of the abuse. Later, the restaurant had thenerve to add a twenty dollar tip. We will never return to that place again. Never received abuse like that in any restaurant. Very disappointing!​ read more

We all enjoyed the food here and thought it was reasonably priced, especially the paella. We dined on a Friday evening. It was busy. We brought a booster (they didn't offer high chairs at the time), and it's less of kid-friendly environment, which makes it nice for date night or catching up with friends. Our party of 4 ordered various drinks, which when they got empty, the server came by to ask if we wanted another, but he didn't come to refill the water (that seemed intentional). Came on Friday night at 7:30 pm and waited 20 minutes to be seated for my party of 3. No fancy system. You put your name down and the write it in a notebook. The wait time wasn't bad but parties of two were still waiting while we had our drinks and went on to order food. The place is spacious but their tables don't make sense and that explains some of the wait time. The tables are a little too big for one person but not big enough for two people. So what could be a table that seats four, only two can sit. Also, the noise level is quite loud and that's not just my observation. One of the usual patrons who I made conversation with while waiting outside warned me and he was right. Their tapas are not as small as I imagined they would be. They're the size of American appetizers so definitely shareable. I tried the fried artichoke, fried eggplant, fried manchego cheese, patatas bravas and the spicy filet mignon tips. All excellent in their own way. If I had to get something again it would be the spicy filet mignon tips and the fried manchego cheese-- that honey on top of the breading was top tier. I was too full to try any entrees but I had my eye on the skirt steak or a paella. While too full for an entree, I always leave room for dessert. The churros were made well and crispy on the outside but nicely soft on the inside. While good, they're too skimpy and tiny. They can afford to make these skinny guys a tad bit fatter. Basque in it. This is the hardest table in downtown Tarrytown. They also don't take reservations for two, walk up only, and it's always packed. You can't even just walk in and try to grab a seat at the bar, you have to put in your name for that as well. And if you are a party of 4+, you have to call them on the PHONE to reserve. Ambiance: Cute and cozy. This is a big date night spot and you won't find many kids here. It's also a great spot to bring parents visiting - especially if they are paying. Food: Pretty good from what we've tried but a bit hit or miss and not cheap. We got: Pan con Tomate: I've never heard of this before and it's essentially just a simple Spanish dish of bread with a tomato spread. Basque also added Iberico ham (similar to Serrano ham or prosciutto) and the combination was so saltily delicious. Atun Picante: Cajun spiced tuna cubes. Didn't like this one. Tasted like old bay seasoning dumped on tuna cubes. Skip, trust me. Veggie Paella: We wound up getting this variation instead of the meat or seafood variations because it was just too much food otherwise with the apps. Plus the veggie was only $35 compared to the $58 for the others. The menu says this is for two but there's no way. We took more than half of it home as it was. Def enough for three or four, especially with starters. And besides being ginormous, it was delicious. Arrived piping hot with plenty of fresh veggies and was just fun. Paella is always fun! And also fun to say : ). It seemed like almost every table had the patella here. On our prior visit, we sampled the garlic shrimp and baby lobsters (which I think are no longer on the menu). Both were very good if rich. Overall, highly recommend and looking forward to trying more of the menu. The fact that my pictures involve half eaten food are testament to how good it was. But definitely try to come during off peak times or you will be waiting, waiting, and waiting some more. read more

I called and was told after 5:15 they only do reservations. When we got there the lady wrote down our name but did not ask for our number. She said 40-45 minutes wait and come back then. We kept coming back like 20 mins past to make sure we are still on the list and were not called yet. It was crowded inside. Our server and the guy that delivered our food was excellent. I accidentally dropped my fork and he was like dont worry about it just leave it on the floor and will get me a new one. I went to this place yesterday and was automatically treated strangely. As I approached the front door the 1st thing that waitress ask me - "Are you here for delivery?"- yes black male here and I was going to eat and grab a drink by myself. Not that there is anything wrong with deliveries, but why is that the 1st question asked to a black man. Unfortunately, I have to give this place a one star, the food was good, but did not feel welcomed. I will not come back. The attendant did not even apologize and she pretended as if this was a normal question to ask. I did not want to make a big deal, but I really thought about asking for the manager and embarrass her and teach her a lesson with customer service. If you want to be transported to Spain, then try coming to Basque Tapas Bar on Main St in Tarrytown to enjoy tasty Spanish food that includes Paella (of course), Sangria that will knock you out, and tapas. Taking over where the previous New American Twisted Branch sat, is Basque- that's been making waves in the last few years. The space has exposed brick walls and the light is moody- (maybe a a tad dimmer could do wonders). Our 6pm dinner worked perfectly because it wasn't crowded. But by 8ish, the shit hit the fan and some folks were turned away for a while because of a crowded house. Keep in mind, none of the Basque restaurants take reservations- so try your luck and pray there's a table available. From a menu with sharing in mind- the Seafood-only Paella, is one you'll enjoy. Yes, it was $46 a few years ago when dining at their original Piermont location- with price hikes on everything nowadays, their sizable paella is still a wonderful deal now at $55. The only difference in this dish compared to another favorite Spanish restaurant of ours in the West Village- Sevilla, is they add lobster to theirs and Basque doesn't. In any case, Basque's seafood paella is fully loaded with other succulent seafood and the rice is perfectly done without being mushy. If you have a heartier appetite, go for their churrasco. Basque has great customer pull time after time. Simply put, it's what this side of Westchester needed. Considering their primary Basque location is in Piermont, we don't see the need to go past the bridge when this one is closer to us. read more

A friend of mine highly recommended Basque. It's in my husband's home town, so we decided to go for a ride. Parking is a pain, so I suggest dropping off your party to get a head start on getting a table. Ttown is bustling on the weekends, even if there isn't a show at the music hall. We were greeted promptly by a very busy and very friendly hostess. She suggested we wait by the bar and we should have a table within 30 minutes. We ordered a pitcher of sangria at the bar, which was delish. We were seated before the 30 minutes. We had a hard time deciding, since everything looked so good. we settled on the stuffed scallops, salad and surf and turf paella. Everything was soooo good. Loved all the flavors. Heard about Basque being the best tapas places around Westchester and could not wait to try. Came here on a Sunday without a reservation around 4p and we were seated right away. Street parking around the area is fairly easy to find and it's metered. Our servers were very efficient, we did not have to wait much at all to order our food. The decors of the place were knight themed and overall the restaurant was a very cute vibe, seating about 10-15 tables. Our food came out very quickly and that's something we always love about restaurants. The anchovies with endives were as good as the hype! So much flavor and texture in one dish. We also got fried cheese, steak bites, churrizo, and fried eggplant, all were delicious! The steak bites came out tender and medium, just the way we like it. We also loved the drizzle of honey on some of the dishes like the fried cheese and eggplant. The portions were larger than we expected. Overall the meal costed about what we expected, tapas around Westchester is generally pricy, but it was worth the price! Will definitely be coming again. read more

From 2 minutes away, we called to see if we could get a table at the last minute. Luckily it was before 6pm on a Thursday, and we got in. For 4 people we ordered 7 tapas plates and it was perfect. One more would've been overkill. I liked everything (though that may be because I CHOSE everything!) if it's your first time, ask a lot of questions. Don't be shy. And let me preface this with a warning about the sangria...it's delicious! It goes down so nicely, but Oh does it pack a punch! Don't say I didn't warn you! Here's what we had; The Spanish Tortilla which is a potato and egg omelet (with a lot of potato) cooked completely through and cut like a crustless quiche, served in a pan. It's one of my favorite comfort foods. Pan con Tomate with Iberian ham on top. Another one of my faves that I make at home. It's not fancy, and very typical. Grated fresh tomato (with salt and garlic) over nice toasted bread and then a piece of cured ham on top. Ham and cheese assortment. A charcuterie board. Everyone liked this. Nothing special but probably a crowd pleaser. Croquetas del Dia were yummy (croquettes), very mellow in flavor, Pulpo a la plancha, grilled octopus and veggies. These were not the fave of everyone, some liked some not as much. They were both well prepared and very authentic to the region, so you decide based on your preferences. The Burrata y Remolacha was delightful. Soft creamy burrata with beets, oranges and salad greens. And then my faves - Endivias de Boquerones vinagreta. Boquerones are 6" anchovies that are pickled in vinegar. Nothing like the anchovies in a jar in your mom's house. Open your mind to new possibilities and you won't be disappointed. They squeezed us in at the bar and that worked out perfectly. Very cute place - and packed. As other reviews have said, getting there early makes all the difference. In terms of portions, 2 plates per person seems to work, but we did 5 plates for the 2 of us and we were stuffed (we just wanted to try everything). This restaurant is super popular and inconveniently does not take reservations. We had about a forty five minute wait for a table and parties that came after us had to wait for an hour. However, the hostess was very friendly and did the best she could to accommodate everyone. We shared several of the tapas. The portion sizes were quite generous for all of them. The fried artichokes were crispy and I loved the tangy caper sauce that accompanied it. However, some of the artichoke leaves were a bit tough to chew. The sautéed mushrooms were very savory and flavorful. The fried manchego cheese was also tasty, though the honey and balsamic glaze were quite subtle. For a main dish, we shared the vegetarian paella. The portion was so large that we thought they accidentally gave us the 4-person size instead of the 2-person size! This was a hearty dish with artichokes, chickpeas, tomatoes, broccoli, and mushrooms. The rice had nice texture and flavor, but the veggies were a bit on the bland side. They brought over some of their house hot sauce and that gave the dish the perfect spicy kick. I do wish the paella itself had a sauce of some kind. Once we were seated, the tapas came out very quickly while the paella took some time. We did feel a bit pressured to leave quickly since there were a lot of people waiting for tables. Fantastic restaurant. Decor is tasteful with art all over the walls from Spanish artists of a classic time period. Service was prompt and kind. Food is superb. My eyes were bigger than my stomach but I wanted to sample many of their dishes. Lamb chops were very tender, croquettes had good and slightly pungent flavor in the filling, nicely fried, and the shrimp were nicely cooked with all good amount of garlic in the sauce that is good to clean up with bread.
