Beautiful Spanish Restaurant in Thornwood right off the Saw Mill. The food is absolutely incredible. Every dish had complex flavors and was well balanced. The atmosphere is elegant and refined. The service was fantastic and our server was extremely knowledgeable. The Iberico Secreto was one of the best meat dishes I've ever had. Full of rich iberco flavor, which had a complex, almost nutty kind of flavor. It's a must try! The Lobster ravioli was also delicious and great portion size. I had a fantastic dinner here! Our server was really excellent and described everything we asked about. We decided to share a bunch of things. We ordered the brussels sprouts, Patata, brava, the garlic shrimp, the ribs and the steak tacos. all I can say is Yum! The shrimp was excellent with nice charred bread to dip in the garlic sauce. The brussels sprouts were excellent with a great sauce on them. I adored the potato brava! Ribs were tender and delicious and the steak tacos had a nice tang to the tomatillo sauce. Is the food good yes my swordfish was delicious; it took me over hour maybe and hour half to get we were a group of 10 some of the girls ran late. And to be fair they had a dance party going on but we needed to eat and when I asked the waiter said the food was coming .the cocktails were good the wine list was nice and staff did try . I'm going to preface this review. We had a nice time at Vida. The food was solid and the ambiance was nice. I liked the space a lot and the staff was very nice and attentive. If it was a little less expensive, I would have given them 4 stars, but I am a firm believer in assessing a place not solely on the actual food and ambiance, but also whether the price matches the product. The inside is nice. Interesting decor that sometimes seems a little at odds with itself (couldn't figure out if they were going for a romantic gothic vibe or a modern hip vibe, but I liked it regardless). The wait staff was very attentive and nice. Honestly, service was definitely 4-5 star level. On to the food. So the food is tapas, but they also have big main entrees. They're also known for their charcuterie jamón products and we were tempted by the charcuterie, but opted for a number of smaller plates and splitting one entree. We got the zucchini blossom, the pork belly tacos, the pan con tomate, and the patatas bravas. For the entree we got the beef cheek. We also got a side of the mushrooms. The zucchini blossoms were very nice. Definitely the best tapas we got. Flavors were solid. The pan con tomate was very vinegar-y. I love vinegar, so I didn't mind it, but it was overwhelming. The bread also didn't hold up to the topping. It needed to be toasted or thicker. The potatoes were perfectly fine, the flavor was nice, but the potatoes themselves should have been crispier. The pork belly tacos were a huge disappointment. We couldn't even taste the pork belly. The slaw overwhelmed it and even when we took the pork belly out for a bite, it was basically flavorless. The tacos were also $22 for two small tacos so it was disappointing. The entrée was nice, but not cohesive. It felt like they made each element separately. The meat was cooked very well, albeit could have used more seasoning. The mashed potatoes needed more butter/cream. They weren't particularly creamy and felt like the potatoes took on too much water during cooking. We liked the meat, but for an almost $50 dish, this was not meeting the standard. The side of mushrooms was nice. Not my favorite, but my partner loved them (and he ordered them). Overall, if the food was in a slightly lower price point, I'd definitely go again. Other than the pork tacos (and maybe it was an off night), everything was solid. We had a drink each (one glass of wine and one beer) and the bill before tip was just under $200. Im a big fan of Augustine's so when I heard chef was opening a new spot on this end of town I was intrigued to give it a try! The ceviche and octopus were some of my favorites among what we tried. The ceviche was super fresh and all the flavors came together for one delicious bite! The octopus was cooked very well and came long with a bean mixture that was packed with favor. Each bit was better than the next and I want to scoop up all that sauce at the bottom of the plate. They have an extensive drink and wine list so they will be sure to have anything you are craving that pairs with all the yummy eats! For summer the roof top bar is a great outdoor dining experience or hang out for some drinks. I can see the winter being a nice cozy spot indoors with the relaxed and fun vibe. read more

Completely forgot; two complaints, I have to deduct a star or two. My BIGGEST complaint is about red wine being served at 'room temperature, 72F+. Red wine should be served between 55F and 68F (13C - 20C). The other bitch was; my Grand Marnier was served in a champagne coupe glass. I asked the bartender where is the snifter? I cannot say enough great things. We valeted our car quickly and we were warmly greeted when we arrived. We were seated upstairs and our waitress was friendly and efficient. The Manager came over multiple times to check on us. We had the shrimp al ajillo, the croquettes and the ceviche to start. All excellent. For our main course we had the pulpo and paella. I found myself at Vida to catch up with one of my friends - we regularly go out to dinner and try to meet up at places in Westchester since it's convenient for both of us. Vida stood out since it's a relatively new restaurant and she had been here previously for drinks. Since she had a positive experience, we thought it would be a good place to have dinner - so off we went. Vida is conveniently located right off the Saw Mill in Thornwood. It's located on the corner of a busy intersection, but their entrance is in the back which feeds into the parking lot so it's all good. I will say, the lot is small - I was able to find a spot but the restaurant wasn't crowded so I can imagine this being an issue when it is. Anyway, the restaurant itself is very nice; it's not too big but they have a good amount of seating in the main dining room - plus more upstairs. The decor is inviting and gives off a higher end feel with low lighting, dark woods and reds, and a bar along the back wall whcih serves as a focal point. The music was distracting - it was mostly club music which didn't fit the aesthetics and it was way too loud; we found it hard at times to hold a conversation due to the volume. The menu mostly contains Spanish fare, with a large selection tapas, plus some salads, paellas, and mains. We decided to share everything, and went with several tapas, a salad, and a side. But first, drinks - I got the California Dreaming which was very good, smooth and tasty. For tapas, we got the mussels, shrimp tacos, ribs, and potatoes. These were all fine - the mussels were my favorite as they were prepared in a tasty sauce and included sausage. The rubs were pretty good, as were the potatoes. The shrimp tacos left something to be desired - it just felt like something was missing from them. We got the beet salad which was good - I'm not the biggest fan of beets but the dressing was tasty and they were prepared well. For a side we got the escarole which was prepared with garlic and oil which was perfect - one of the highlights of the meal for me. We got dessert and decided to share the cannoli - this was quite interesting as the shell was made of a rolled pizzelle and the filling was and atypical cannoli cream. It wasn't like a cannoli I was used to and am not sure I'm sold on it, but it was tasty. Service was pretty good, everyone was friendly but since it wasn't crowded they kinda hovered over our table a bit. It wasn't too bad but I think they need to work on the balance a little more. Overall, I didn't love Vida - there's lots of potential here but I think they need to fine tune it a bit to make it great. This is not your typical Spanish restaurant. It's sort of like Spanish food for royalty. I know this chef is a Michelin Star Chef and his other restaurant Augustine's is unbelievable but he just gets better and better! He truly knows food. I eat polpo everywhere and this one was like butter! Melted in my mouth. The seafood pasta was so light a delicious with a lot of seafood. Must have had 10 shrimp; big and fresh. And the chicken is cooked so perfectly it's hard to believe. The drinks were potent and the dessert was decadent. And the espresso was so smooth. The service was terrific and our waiter Nick was really lovely. They were having a big party upstairs and the dining room was packed but we still got great service. I don't know how anyone could say anything bad because this place is a gem. I read one review that the prices were high. Not sure that is accurate. The quality, quantity, presentation along with the talent of this chef make it all well worth the price! In fact, I think they're pretty reasonable!! The prices for an entree with sides cooked by a Michelin star chef... don't seem high to me. So happy we don't have to go into the city for a great meal! Vida is a well appointed location run by a husband/wife team that has a great Italian restaurant in Mamaroneck. So was very much looking forward to dinner here. First impression, we walked in and no one was at the host stand downstairs. The downstairs dining room was empty so wasn't sure what to even do, but heard some noise upstairs so headed up there to see where we'd be seated. Weird start. Once sat and our friends joined us, the service was pleasant and we ordered both a meat/cheese/olives starter, and then quite a few tapas which was intended to be our main meal. 20 minutes later, all of our food arrived at once. I thought it was a joke, have never had that happen to me before, and assumed that at the very least the meat/cheese/olives would be brought out prior to the remainder of the tapas (which, in every other Spanish restaurant of this caliber has always been brought out in stages). There was literally no room at our table to eat, and we couldn't send it all back. So we were stuck with trying to portion it out ourselves and needless to say some of the dishes were cold by the time we got to them. Made for an impossible situation to enjoy. As for the food, it was all fine, nothing particularly elevated. As many have mentioned, the prices are really too high for the portions. Was particularly put off by the croquettes were were $16 dollars for two! And the pan con tomatte had very little, if any, tomato. And was also a victim of having overly idled, as there was far too much vinegar which ultimately overwhelmed the dish (may have been less of an issue if served fresh separately) This feels like a scenario for a place that's 1-2 months old, not a full year in. Would suggest to the owners to make some adjustments across the board. Want them to have a successful place, but would be hard pressed to return after our one experience there. read more

Let's start that we wanted to really like this place because it is close to our house and a place to become a regular. But it failed to meet that expectations. The service started out good then as the night went on and more parties came in, we felt not like priority anymore even though we are a paying customer as much as the next. We ordered the "queso" in reality it was just three pieces of cheese and one overly toasted bread and we were expecting at least a mini charcuterie board. Mariscos paella that had clams, mussles, shrimp and a scallops. These were really the few items we can order because my gf is gluten free and it wasn't that many options when another place similar to this has double the options. The food had the flavor which we fairly enjoyed but the portion was more a personal paella than the usual ones we order out to share. One thing that really knocked down the rating and our overall feeling of our experience was we weren't informed that when ordered vodka drinks that their house is freaking top shelf vodka, it wasn't a big deal that it was but I'm shocked that a place to offer to just top shelf. From casual to fine dining they always have house vodka or even liquor but overall the servers should give a heads up to the customers and even the city restaurants don't even do this. Yes, it has a NYC vibes including the pricing but the portions doesn't match the price. I will give them the benefit of the doubt that they are working the kinks in the armor and they will do more than fine without our money. We just won't be back and go to a regular Spanish restaurant. read more

Absolutely amazing. First off the hostess and servers were incredible immediately as we came in. An arsty place with dim lighting and eccentric paintings. Our drinks were lovely and our food was fantastic. First we got the ensalada, the candied pecans with blue cheese was an amazing combo. Along with the tuna tartare that was so fresh. Then came our entrees, which was one of the best steaks i've ever had. We got the strip, the smoked flavor with the sauces were perfect. For quite some time this restaurant spot remained "in construction". Other dining venues came and went while "14 Marble Avenue" remained unopened. What was coming? Rumors of another steakhouse or upscale Mexican dining were whispered. Then finally...Vida We have visited Vida on four occasions over the past three months. Each visit left us smiling and looking forward to our next meal here. The service here is professional, polite and attentive (sometimes too attentive). All smiles our waiter was alert to our needs. One particular visit the maitre d noticed our congested "table for two" and immediately included a second table for required space. The dimly lite dining area relaxes you. The bar area is a perfect compliment. The bright upstairs tapas dining room is handsome with outside dining as well. Looking forward to a meal there when the weather warms up. As for the food... The New York State Duck Breast prepared medium in a delicious red wine reduction sauce was the best I've experienced. Our Paella selections included the "Valenciana" (chicken / rabbit) and the "Mariscos" (scallops / mussels) - both winners. Tapas starters included the Pan-seared shrimp; meatballs. We especially enjoyed the "Croquettes" (ham / cheese) selection as well as the "Mejillones" (mussels). Surprisingly we found the tuna tartar selection to be tasteless and disappointing. Favorite side - certainly the Crispy Brussels Sprouts. We are not big on desserts however we did share the cannoli one evening. No exaggeration here - The Best Around! I eat out a lot and every now and then a spot just sticks with you. From the moment I stepped in the tone was set. The staff were welcoming and professional. They created an experience as if you were at a 5 star restaurant. The drinks were creative and simple I had a play on a smoked old fashioned and it was delicious. Despite the great service and drinks the food was the real star. The server took ample time to explain the dishes and it origins of the chefs view. Despite having many different appealing options I stuck with the classic rib eye steak. It was sourced from Texas and you could taste it,tender and fresh. It wasn't overly seasons at all just enough salt to locked in the solid flavors. They also offer an Iberia imported pork shoulder that was just a tender and flavorful. They offer two mojo and one chimichurri all of which are solid but the meats stand well on their own. All in all it was a great experience and I am definitely going again. read more

We were 2 for dinner. Vida is beautifully decorated downstairs and upstairs. Downstairs is the bar and dining room. Upstairs is a beautiful lounge with couches and dining table plus a roof top when the weather gets nice. The service was excellent . We started our meal with the Shrimp Tacos on a corn taco shell, the shrimp were cooked to perfection topped with a mango pico de gallo & mojo rojo & the Croquettes crispy on the outside filled with velvety machego cheese, Serrano ham & salsa. These were both delicious and highly recommended. Then my friend had the Chicken Al Ajillo, it's 1/2 chicken cooked in a garlic & white wine & it comes with black garlic velvety mashed potato. This dish was perfectly seasoned and the chicken melted in your mouth. I had the Preso, it is tender roasted pork shoulder came with 3 different sauces on the side, the sauces were delicious. I had a choice of the meat being cooked medium or medium well. I chose medium well. It was tough but cooked perfectly, sometimes you don't know when a piece of meat could just not be a-good piece. I also had a side of those mashed potatoes, delicious. The drinks and the after dinner crème Sherry were very good. For dessert we order the cannoli's and caramel topped cheesecake . We got 2 oversized cannolis one in a pizzelle tube and one in a waffle cone tube the cannoli cream was smooth with chocolate chips they were light and delicious. The cheese cake was a good size and creamy and with a crisp caramel top, also delicious. We finished with a cappuccino and a macchiato. Another nice thing is your food is served on china not restaurant plates a very elegant touch. The waiter also takes your coat at the table gives you your ticket and then brings your coat back to you when you are ready to leave. They also have valet parking. I'm sorry I didn't take any pictures because we just enjoying the atmosphere and food and forgot to. I give this restaurant a 9.8 out 10 because of the Preso. I definitely recommend Vida. it's a little pricey but worth it. I am definitely going back! read more

What can I say! Perfect evening dinner celebrating my wedding anniversary. My wife and me sat outside on the rooftop. Beautifully decorated and very impressed with the details. We had the grilled octopus, you could just about cut it with your fork it was so tender. I highly recommend the ceviche it was just magic. Zucchini blooms were delicious. The sardines were a bit too large for my liking but prepared excellent. Also the Jimmy Nardello peppers were fantastic. We finished the meal with the Mariscos paella, I only had a taste, e we're both so stuffed from all the tapas. Chloe our waitress couldn't have been more attentive and friendly. We were excited to try Vida because it's such a beautiful spot, and with the high prices, we expected an amazing meal. Sadly, it was the worst dining experience we've had in a long time.The paella was pretty much inedible - the escargot tasted way off, raising concerns about its freshness. The lamb was dry and flavorless, and the mussels still had sand in them, which is just unacceptable. When we mentioned the issues to the owner, the apology felt fake and sarcastic. No effort was made to make things right or even try to accommodate us. We went in with high hopes, but sadly, it was a huge letdown. read more

What a great evening at a beautiful place to enjoy a holiday celebration. we had started the evening with some great red sangria margaritas and some local beers. The waiter and the support stuff were on top of their game making us comfortable and made sure that everyone was cared for. plus the atmosphere was every inviting. The physical structure of Vida is beautiful. A lot of thought must have gone into the planning. The problem is the service and food quality. Service was awful, it was a Sat. night, and we are still waiting for our glass of wine!! The food was not very good and the prices were high. My friend had the seafood paella and it was not very good. Very little seafood! I had the shrimp tacos. Two small tacos,$$$, and nothing special. First , I have no idea why someone would open a restaurant this big and think that proper Spanish cuisine would be a good choice. The ambiance is top notch but the food was not par with the ambience. The smoked bourbon I ordered ($17) first tasted like pure charcoal and I Barely drank it. The food we had was mussels that had a very bitter aftertaste. The shrimp with garlic was good but they charge as much as any restaurant in Westchester would charge for main course. We ordered shrimp tacos also, again charge as much as 4 orders of tacos in a regular place and they were tiny but decent. Then came the paella that was smaller than a personal size pizza ! The rice al dente and the seafood bland and seemed like it was cooked separately from the rice, and dessert was just us wanting to get the hell out of there and grab something from the McDonald's down the road because we were still hungry.
