This place was great, so authentic from the food to the decor. The owners a sister and brother duo were so hospitable, no rush and spent time taking to us about their restaurant and the food. The food was cooked to order and was served hot and at the same time. It was delicious, the saltados were served and a perfect portion, right amount of ingredients (tomatoes and onions) and incredible flavors. The empanadas, these are hand made, pop in your mouth goodness, so flavorful and light. The cocktails, they have an extensive list, I highly recommend the Eternity with hibiscus syrup; it's incredible! The flan we shared and it was good but we were stuffed. We will be back, they do take out and have a spacious outdoor patio for the warmer weather months with a fire pit and outside bar. read more

I passed by this restaurant all summer, and wanted to do outdoor dining there. It didn't happen, so I decided to try indoor dining instead since it's 30° out! The restaurant was very quaint and interesting inside, decorated with many Peruvian statues and pieces of art. I had to try the sangria, which ended up being perfectly done, with a slight fruity hint and not overly sweet. For an appetizer, we ordered the shrimp ceviche. It was presented on a beautiful triangular dish with a flower, and had a wonderful citrusy flavor to it. It was crisp, and cold, and paired well with the red onion. For entrées, we ordered the Tallarin Verde con carne and the Camerones al ajillo. The steak was tender and perfectly spiced, presented on top of spaghetti in a basil/ spinach pool of sauce. The sauce was addictive! The shrimp was floating on top of a rich garlic sauce, which was absolutely delicious, presented with perfectly molded white rice. For dessert, we had the churros with their traditional ice cream, and tried the Coquito. The churros were warm, really crispy with lots of cinnamon sugar. It paired perfectly with the Lucuma ice cream. The Coquito was also quite delicious with a great cinnamon flair to it. The service was excellent, and our waitress was very friendly and gracious. When I go to a restaurant I don't just judge the place on the food or service but how the management/owner handles their staff and customers. A couple first time customers walked in without a reservations, Shirley told them about a 20 min wait as the place was busy & jammed packed, and they decided to wait. Shirley and her staff treated these people exceptionally. There was a table of 6 set up with reservations that was delayed so Shirley had them sit at the table to wait - took their drink order - and treated them like royalty while they waited for their table. Now to me that is going above and beyond for someone without a reservations when your place is busy. By the way almost 20 min to the clock the couple was seated at their table. Shirley who is the owner, warmly greeted us remembering us from our previous visit. Placed us at a table by the door. Now for my new review. Called ahead - reservations 7:00 pm Saturday evening, this place has about 12 to 14 tables so call ahead for a reservations - note also street parking. When I called and spoke to Shirley the day before, I asked if they were going to have their famous Salmon dish Con Quinoa on the menu, "I 'll check with my chef." Saturday came and guess what she had the chef make and get special for us, since we missed it last visit. The Salmon. 2 servings and it was excellent. She even listens to her customer's requests and cares - WOW! I had their Pork special with Rice and let me tell you the flavor was excellent. We weren't planning on desserts but spouse love Flan - best she has had and I ordered some Purple Apple - Mazamorra - Morada, no idea what is was. Spouse was like yuck then she tried it, tried it again and again, you get the point it was that good. This is our NEW GO TO PLACE when we come downstate, NY, planning to be back again in April :). One of the tastiest meals I have had in a long time. The red sangria was packed with fruit and flavor! My wife had a flounder and shrimp dish that she loved and I had the Lomo Saltado a grilled meat dish in tomato's and onions with French fries and rice. It was absolutely delicious. This is a favorite gem of mine in Harrison. Adorable outdoor area in the warmer months. Year round the yummiest Peruvian food you could ask for. Great drink selections. This cosy restaurant in our neighbourhood is where we frequent for tasty Peruvian food. We love its intimate and warm ambiance. Its red walls are adorned with Peruvian art, weaved rugs, and masks. One also can't miss their wall projection showcasing a constant stream of all things Peruvian- music, scenery, the majestic Machu Picchu, indigenous tribes, folk dances... We are usually greeted by Shirley who started this restaurant 7 years ago with her brother, the chef in the kitchen. If you are looking to order a drink, I would recommend their in-house Sangria which has a lovely balance of fruit and alcohol. We always start with the Ceviche Mixto, a light citrusy starter of fresh fish and seafood and the deliciously sweet fried Plantains (Platanos Maduros). For the mains, I would recommend Pollo Saltado - grilled chicken slices stir fried with red peppers, onions and tomatoes, accompanied by fries and rice. Pescado Al Ajo is another favourite - fried fish fillet with rice, topped with a delicious red garlic sauce. We also love Tallarin Saltado de Pollo, a delightful spaghetti dish with chicken, onions, tomatoes and green peppers sautéed in light soy sauce. Quenas regularly features specials. We recently tried one of them - Pork Adobo, stewed pork in a flavourful Peruvian pepper, onion and wine gravy and it was delish. There are several interesting options on the dessert menu. For example, Picarones -Ring shaped fritters of yellow squash and sweet potatoes served drizzled with a rich honeyed dark sauce and Churros con Lucuma, featuring the exotic Peruvian fruit, Lucuma in a scoop of ice cream. Great cozy little spot. Don't know if it's the same owner but I've been to a place with the same name in Norwalk CT in the past so jumped at the $40 for $20 deal when I saw it on Yelp Deals. The waitress was really good and even manage to up sell the empanadas to us as an appetizer. They were very good- not the best I've had but very crispy and went well with the aji (green hot sauce). We ordered the Parihuela (which being Peruvian, it's a must for me to order that or a Ceviche at every Peruvian restaurant I go to). Again it was good but could've use more flavor to make it great. The Lomo Saltado on the other hand was very flavorful! It had the right amount of juice and the fries were just right. The steak was good cut of meat and cook perfection with the vegetables. Best of all they let us substitute the white rice for Tacu Tacu!!(which oddly enough more Peruvian restaurants should offer but don't) We ordered the Picarones for dessert which also delicious!! Fried to a perfect crisp it paired very well with the honey. They even drew a Rose stencil with the honey at the corner of the plate- nice little touch! read more

We sat in the outdoor area on a beautiful day, for an early dinner, and it was absolutely charming. They've really put a lot of effort into making the outdoor space colorful and fun. We even saw a waiter placing Peruvian ponchos on chairs when the wind kicked up- I thought this to be a cute, thoughtful touch. It's not super fancy, but tasteful and a bit whimsical in terms of aesthetics. There's no parking lot, but we had no trouble finding street parking right in front. We were attended to right away, and they brought us water and a bowl of deliciously salty Peruvian corn. They also placed a high chair for us, as we had two small children with us, and the wait staff was accommodating in terms of patience and tolerance to a few Peruvian corn kernels landing on the ground. We ordered a pitcher of red sangria- very good, not too fruity & not too strong. For our meal we ordered the jalea, which comes family-style, and was indeed plentiful & tasty, but not the best I've ever had. The chaufa de pollo & chaufa de camarones were very good. The best part of our meal though was the palta rellena de camarones, which is essentially an avocado stuffed with seafood & veggies- insanely delicious and fresh! There's also a chicken version of this if you're not into seafood. We skipped dessert, but noticed another table ordered some really delicious-looking donut-flan combo plate. My family and I were looking for a replacement for Chulos, we found Quenas. This is NOT as amazing as we thought it would be. The appetizers were very good and well presented but the service was exceptionally slow. The main dish was average, something that you could make at home in your own kitchen. What an adorable little restaurant - was planning on coming here eventually anyways since we live so close but when I saw a Living Social deal I jumped on it. Came around 8;45 on a Friday night and got a table no problem; there were a few tables taken but a few empty ones as well. We started with the empanadas which came out nice and hot - you could tell they were fresh. I wish there had been more but I was hungry! :) For an entree I ordered the arroz con camerones which was delicious- tons of plump juicy (perfectly cooked) shrimp and lots of fresh veggies with the fragrant yellow rice. My boyfriend got a beef/onion dish that was also outstanding. We split a side of yuca frita which was good, but a little dry. It needed a dipping sauce or something! Waitress was attentive and friendly; service was quick, we were out in an hour, and the prices were right - all that was about $50 +tip! I preface this review with a little background. I lived in Peru for six years. I traveled throughout the country during that time. Unlike most of my American counterparts, it was my mission to try all the different varieties of Peruvian cuisine. In various states of consciousness, I've tried fried worms and "cuy" (guinea pig). When we went to Quenas, I wasn't looking to try something new. I was looking for authentic Peruvian food. Quenas did not disappoint. The owners were from Cusco, a city in the Peruvian Andes, was once capital of the Inca Empire. I started with a traditional Peruvian drink- pisco sour. They served it in a martini glass which was an interesting twist. The taste was spot on from what I remember. I had the anticucho appetizer. Honestly, it was better than any I've had in Peru. Then I ordered the nontraditional Peruvian paella. Very flavorful, not overly salty. The service was attentive; we never had to wait. The water glasses were always full. I enjoyed my meal and the short trip down memory lane. Quenas will be my go-to restaurant for authentic Peruvian food. read more

Figured I'd try something different to take my dad to for his birthday. It was definately an enjoyable experience. We started with Papa Rellena(White potato dough stuffed with meat, hard-boiled eggs, olives and raisins)..Normally I don't want to even see raisins near me, but they gave it just the right amount of "sweet"...I was hoping my dad would not eat all of his so I could steal it, but that wasn't the case. For my mains(I was starving) I got the seafood soup AND a half a chicken..The chicken was moist and the flavor ran through it..Wasn't just some seasoning plopped on the top...Overall excellent experience. For $100, my husband and I had an appetizer, entree, dessert and 2 cocktails each. We had empanadas and polpo ceviche to start, both delicious and perfectly different. I had the Peruvian paella which was great, but my husband's trout (the special of the night) was the star of the meal. The trout was served whole, fried perfectly and served with fried yuca and onion & tomato salad. Yum! The flan was as good as I've ever had, the rice pudding creamy and warm. This Peruvian place just opened about a month ago. I've been in a few times with my husband and we both really like it. He loves the ceviche and paella. I really enjoy the shrimp/avocado cocktail, the soups (a meal alone!), and everything else I've tried. The owners/servers are very friendly and the atmosphere of the place feels warm and welcoming. There's a back patio they're planning to open when the weather gets nicer. No liquor license yet, but a liquor/wine shop is less than half a block up the street. I really do love this place. We waited months before giving it a shot and we were so blown away. It looks so underwhelming from the street, we didn't realize that the only 6 tables seen from the street is not the entirety of dining space. There is an outdoor patio that has plenty more seats. It's great for a nice weather day to sit out back. They have such unique food that is really Peruvian, they use peppers and spices as well as fruit and veg that is native to Peru. Everything I tried was a symphony of flavor on my palette and the service was really great. The sangria is good as well! The desserts, specifically their donuts and ice cream that is again all using Peruvian ingredients was just mind numbingly good. Been here twice so far and will be back again for sure. Give this place a try if you want something different then sushi or pub food in Harrison. UPDATE: We've been back numerous times. I'm yet to have anything I don't like. The sangria gets better and better every time I go. Last visit we had the two specials, a fried pork dish and a mixed seafood plate. Both were amazing! We were passing by Harrison for dinner and Googled "best restaurant Harrison NY," and Quenas was listed as the second and fifth hits. And deservedly: Our dinner was phenomenal. The standout was Tiradito de Pescado, an appetizer of cold fish marinated in lemon juice and Peruvian yellow peppers. It was very lemony and very spicy, and my mouth is watering just remembering it. Delicious. Also, this might be trivial but Quenas's restroom is one of the cleanest, neatest, and most hospitable that I've ever seen in a restaurant. This is just one of those small points that tell you, yes, the owners really do care about your experience in their restaurant. The whole restaurant's decor was lovely, the service was warm and attentive...everything you want from a small restaurant. And of course, great fresh food.
