As for the food, everything was great. My mother in law had the whole branzino which was fresh and perfectly cooked and seasoned. My seafood rice dish had plenty of shrimp and scallops and included lobster. It was a huge portion. My wife's ribeye was perfectly cooked medium rare. When the family is craving Portuguese cuisine in Westchester, this place is always near the top of the list. We came on a Saturday night around 8:00pm and the restaurant was packed, with diners filling every room and even the bar area. Thankfully we had reservations and were seated right away. Parking can get tight on busy nights, so we used the valet, which made things easier. We started with a table favorite, chouriço, perfect for sharing while settling in. I ordered one of my go-to Portuguese dishes, Carne à Alentejana, tender cubes of pork loin sautéed with little neck clams, wine, and fresh cilantro. It delivered exactly what I was hoping for, savory, balanced, and deeply comforting. Others at the table enjoyed the broiled Mediterranean octopus and the Chilean sea bass with caper sauce, both well prepared. Service was attentive throughout, and they even offer to take a table photo for you. Portions are generous, the dining room is spotless, and the classic crumb-scraping after the meal is a nice old-school touch. At first my buddies were hating on this place, and I wasn't completely sure why. So I went to try it today and the food was ass. Had to get what the server recommended, the paella, and it defined shit better than anything I've ever eaten. I'm 1000% sure this restaurant would be out of business if it wasn't for the geriatric crowd of people they fill up the restaurant with on a Saturday night. We were in the area for work, and got some take out here. Definitely a cute spot, and busy, I'd recommend reservations. We had the baked clam app(1 piece each) and shrimp in cognac sauce app which was pretty good, and we also shared the stuffed squid app which was excellent! For our entrees we had the monk fish and dried cod. A bit bland, but definitely fresh. Maybe something got lost in translation since we didn't eat it in-house, but definitely worth a try. AN ABSOLUTE DISGRACE. AVOID AT ALL COSTS. My family had been loyal to Aquario for decades. My grandparents were among the restaurant's first customers. That loyalty meant nothing. We made the mistake of trusting Aquario with my grandmother's 99th birthday--a once‑in‑a‑lifetime milestone our family can never get back. Instead of respect, we were met with rude, hostile behavior and treated like an inconvenient afterthought. They assigned 1 waiter to our party of 35, took over 2 hours to bring entrees, and then served STEAKS CUT HORIZONTALLY to stretch portions. On top of that, we were grossly overcharged--check your bill carefully--and they REFUSED to give us to-go bags for the food that we purchased and wanted to take home. Then to make matters worse... We saw cockroaches in the women's bathroom and over half of our family became VIOLENTLY ILL with SEVERE FOOD POISONING after the meal. This restaurant has completely lost its quality, standards, and integrity. What should have been a meaningful celebration turned into a nightmare. We will never return, and I can guarantee no one in my family ever will. Aquario, shame on you. It's been awhile since we were at Aquario and as usual food was very good and service as well.

Back again, with a couple of friends. The hospitality here matches the quality of the food - both outstanding. It's almost as if every guest feels she's pampered "more than anyone else " here! From previous visits we've established that we like the "Meandro", a red Portuguese wine that is aromatic, flavorful, full bodied and goes perfectly with our dinner choices. And it's priced well! We started with a shrimp appetizer, the mussels and the grilled fresh sardines. That was followed with the Mariscada, the Broiled Scallops, the Sautéed Tuna and a whole broiled Dourado. The dishes each come with black beans and rice. Delicious! We did make sure we left some room for dessert and this time we shared a slice of Napoleon. Always a treat to come to this fine restaurant. Love the ambiance: white linen Tableclothes and Napkins, comfortable chairs, relaxed atmosphere, and muted sounds allow for quiet conversation. Delicious bread, butter and Portuguese sausage bites immediately placed on the table. Extensive menu, yet three in our party of four enjoyed the broiled Seafood Combo - Sole, Scallops & Butterfly Shrimp* with sides of mashed potatoes, fresh broccoli and carrots, and tasty rice & beans. Our other guest ordered the Broiled Butterfly Shrimp*. The Shrimp were dry and serving them in their shell was a BIG turn-off! (If not for the shells, this review would be 5 Stars.). I made a reservation to ensure a table since I drove an hour to meet a friend in the area. It was a disappointment from start to finish. When we arrived, nobody was there to greet us. I had to ask other people waiting ahead what the deal was. So we waited, and loads of people were welcomed and seated before my party. I assumed from how the man(maybe the owner) seating them greeted them that they were all regulars. I didn't take a survey, but I guess we were among the few with reservations. It's whatever. I got excited seeing so many people. The place was jam-packed, and that is always a good look. So, I thought to myself, the food must be delicious. Wrong! The food was terrible. We ordered two fish dishes and a side of mushrooms. The only decent-tasting thing was the side. I added salt and pepper and asked for hot sauce to redeem the flavorless dish. Solid food. Gets busy over the weekend. They offer valet service. It's like a smart casual vibe. The restaurant is spacious and the deco on the wall makes you feel like you traveled to the coast of Portugal. Lots of seafood options. Complimentary bread butter and sausage. Can't go wrong there! For apps, the portobello mushroom is a winner. The octopus salad and melon and prosciutto are also very good but the star of the appetizers was the mushroom. Entree the Mariscada is top notch. It's essentially a tomato broth filled with lots of shellfish. All dishes have generous portions. The Flan for dessert was also good. Perhaps it was a tad overcooked but solid flavor. I came here for my friends graduation party and it was great! We had a private room with great service. The appetizers were basically all seafood, but I enjoyed them still. I got the salmon dish for dinner with hollandaise sauce and it was delicious. Also they had an amazing spread for dessert including a creamy chocolate cake. Hostile and unpleasant environment. Walked into the restaurant in a great mood and was mistreated by the supposed owner, "Jack". We were seated and I simply politely asked for ice water. Old School. That's probably an appropriate summary of a spot that's a throwback to the 1970's with good food, good prices and good service. While nothing stood out, everything was fine. We were two couples. Two of us shared the grilled octopus and shrimp with cognac sauce as appetizers, which we loved. The shrimp was especially yummy. My bouillabaisse had plenty of fresh seafood and a lovely red sauce, and my friend reported that the swordfish was excellent. A little less loved was the seared tuna. Interestingly, the notion of seared tuna is distinctly more contemporary than Aquario's roots, so it's not super surprising that their best dishes are more classic. Wines are very well priced. We had a bottle of Portuguese red for $26 that was highly recommended by the waiter. I found the bottle on Vivino and discovered it retails for $12 to $15 ... so an incredibly fair restaurant markup. We shared a few desserts. The custard cups were excellent. Chocolate cake was fine and the angel food cake was a little too light and fluffy. On the downside, we arrived at 7pm with a reservation and weren't seated until 7:30pm. We noticed that most patrons were in the 75+ crowd, which explained the early Saturday night seating. While service was attentive, the kitchen was slow and we didn't leave for home until 10:30pm. This shouldn't have been a three-hour meal. That said, at about $160 per couple, gratuity included, you can't beat the cost-to-value. So if you're looking for a classic spot with good food, this is a good bet. Nothing's inspiring and super memorable, but everything is likely to satisfy without breaking the bank. read more

We had the clam appetizer and the seafood stew for main (the broth didn't have much flavor). Overall, getting a simple fish with sides would be good here. Dined there tonight with 6 people. Food is good but service was poor. The waiter took our orders and we got 5 entrees not six. One in our party ordered whole Branzino. They said it would be right out but it did not come. Finally they told him the made a mistake and fileted it in the kitchen by mistake. He would have eaten it but they never asked. It finally came after everyone else was finished. He sent it back and they did remove it from the bill. The waiter was no where to be seen. He never once came over to see if all was well. If there's a home of traditional Portuguese food in West Harrison, it's Aquario. After a solemn and early 9:30 Saturday funeral mass for hub's best friend's mom in The Bronx, we were hungry and drove up north for an early Lunch. Aquario has stepped up this time around. Service continues to be pleasant and attentive. ALL dining areas seemed opened. The only thing I didn't see on display (super early maybe?), was the seafood glass counter. We dove right in for entrees and skipped the apps and cocktails. Hubs enjoyed his medium rare NY Strip and my Mahi Mahi+Shrimp in Shrimp Sauce was delectable. All it needed was more of that shrimpy, creamy sauce- because it was soul-shakingly good. Our portions were generous and great prices at that! Nice win. read more

I learned about this place when I was at the new Portuguese Sardine store in Times Sq. The rep from Portugal told me about it. If that's not a recommendation, I don't know what is! We made a reservation for six. It steadily filled up with a mix of couples, families, a party. We were in the smaller room, very nice. My caprihina was lovely. I started with a stuffed clam, delicious. I had the grouper with shrimp sauce. Absolutely fantastic! Besides the piece of fish, there were shrimp and clams in shells. The sauce was like a thin bisque, utterly delicious. I might never get past this dish! My husband had the salmon, he said it was as good as our long missed restaurant, The Village Fish. I had his piped whipped potatoes, oh my. We had the chocolate cake, very fresh and moist. Came with fruit and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. We'll be back, looking forward to it! read more

Excellent Portuguese restaurant in Harrison! My family and I have been coming to this place for years. We are fans of steak, paella, and mariscada. My favorite dish is the linguine with shrimp and cognac sauce. We also like the caldo verde soup. The free bread at the beginning comes with butter and olive oil. They also give you free Portuguese sausage. The ambiance is beautiful, and the restaurant is large. There are many dining rooms, which makes this place perfect for parties. A wedding anniversary was happening today, but it did not affect our meal at all because there were plenty of other rooms. Last month, my parents celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary here, and we were able to occupy one dining room. It's also worth noting that they have their own parking lot. The service is always professional. I can't remember any time they made a mistake or were rude. read more

The desserts are very good and the portion sizes for the dinner work are generous. They are sometimes not open. The restrooms are rather clean. They take cash and major credit cards. All the staff speak English well. I don't drink alcohol so I don't know about the wines. They do have a vast selection of wines and beers. I have went there with my family several times. This would be closer to 3.5-star review, ordinarily, but it's a pandemic 4-star establishment. We know times are tough in the industry. There was a lot to like about this restaurant and some clear skill to be found in the kitchen. What we found to be strengths: - The "boiled vegetables" that came with entrees were not the bland, horrible boiled peas and carrots I feared we'd receive, given the menu description. The sauteed broccoli rabe we actually received was fantastic, cooked to a perfect texture, and very nicely seasoned with garlic and salt. I was very happily surprised. - Discovery Bay oysters ($3 each) were expertly shucked and meaty, with brine left in the shell. They were fairly good for summer, served with a lemon wedge and hot sauce (no mignonette). Lemon is all I ever personally need for oysters anyway, so I had no complaints there. - The children's steak was cooked to order (medium rare) and surprisingly good, surprisingly well sized, served with well made French fries. The cut appeared by be a NY strip steak. - The husband's rack of lamb was devoured with appreciation. They came medium rare as requested, with a side of potatoes sliced a quarter to 1/3 inch thick, beautifully oven roasted with garlic, and more broccoli rabe. OK: - The branzini was quite fresh, but came much smaller than advertised (probably closer to 1 lb than 2 lbs), and came filleted instead of whole as requested. The fish was underseasoned and undersalted to our tastes. I did very much appreciated that there was nothing for the seasonings to hide -- but a salt and pepper shaker on the table would've been appreciated in our case, a second lemon wedge. - Perhaps just a miscommunication, but the pureed vegetable soup was not what we expected. What we received was more akin to a carrot soup than anything, but the wide range of summer vegetables described by our waiter left me expecting a pureed version of Panera's 10-vegetable soup. Sadly, the intended consumers didn't like this version very well. (It was creamy, a little undersalted to our tastes, aggressively carroty.) A bit more description on the menu would be nice, here, so customers have a better sense of what they're getting. Needs improvement: - Andalusian style (creamy) gazpacho was also a little bland for our tastes, lacking in alliums, acid and salt. The simplicity of ingredients would've worked with excellent summer tomatoes, but the tomatoes used in this version (possibly canned?) were not good enough to work as that single pillar of greatness this recipe needs. - The wine list only lists wines by the bottle, not by the glass -- and what is available by the glass could only be described very generally by our waiter (as pinot noir, merlot, prosecco, etc...), without a specific winery given. As wine snobs, we care about choosing our wines based on at least a winery, if not vintage and region. All three wines we ended up with via this luck-of-the-draw lottery were ones we would not choose to have again. I probably would've been a little less miffed at this outcome if our waiter hadn't enthusiastically vouched for two of them as being "great! very good!" They were not. Pours were, however, extremely generous. - I know staffing conditions are awful all around... but know before you go that right now, things are going to be very slow. What we had budgeted time-wise to be a 1 to 1.25 hour meal turned into a 2.5 hour experience -- which would've been fine had we not been racing the clock to get the kids home to bed. It took a very long time to get menus, water came only upon request (and after a long wait). Prior to our meal, the restaurant sent to the table sliced bread, cold slices of butter, and cubes of a mild, gouda-like cow's milk cheese I couldn't readily identify. (Not sure if a couvert was charged; I didn't check.) The adults enjoyed the cheese, which ate interestingly well with whatever pinot noir we received. We couldn't spread the cold butter on the bread, but if this came gratis, the gesture was kind and generous, especially in these difficult times, and much appreciated. Outdoor seating is on the sidewalk and fairly minimal. (You'll be only inches from the curb, an obstacle for pedestrians.) We got the impression that typically, patrons drink (and smoke) at their tables outdoors, but do not order food or receive table service. If that's true, we thank the waiter for his kind accommodation -- but diners who wish to eat outdoors should be aware of this situation. Indoors, staff were not masked and patrons were mostly not masked, either. Lots of older couples dining, who reflected the lovely, old-fashioned gentility of the indoor surrounds. read more
