Friday night a new friend of mine and I went to an old favorite of mine in the Wykagyl area of New Rochelle. I haven't been there in years, but their food is still excellent and with large portions and reasonable prices! Maestro's on North Avenue and Quaker Ridge Road in New Rochelle did NOT disappoint! Both of us loved our meals. Her Eggplant Parmigiana was fantastic and she loved it. My Veal Scaloppine was marvelous. Our waitress Joanne was charming and very helpful and the decor was delightful. This was disappointing! We did a search and stopped here since the website boasted pizza but there is only a personal pizza on the menu. A seafood dish we ordered tasted fishy. We were told that other patrons had no problem with it but it was BAD and we were not going to continue eating something that might have made us sick. Absolutely amazing Italian food. Small family place, great prices, and everything we ordered was absolutely SPECTACULAR. Service was good as well, our waiter Mario was super nice and we had about a 30 min conversation with him afterwards. They kept the homemade bread coming (which is the best bread ive had) and were very nice and quick with bringing our food out. Best side pastas ive ever had at an italian restaurant also - vodka sauce and carbonara both some of the best ive had. Ordered hot antipasto for lunch which was nothing special. We've eaten here occasionally in the past twenty years, and they always served at least six good size hot fresh baked pizza dough without us even asking for it, but this time we had to ask for it. We were given three small dried up hard pieces of pizza dough for the two of us. When we asked if they had any softer pieces of pizza dough the waiter said that it was pizza dough with no other answer as to whether they would offer anything else in its place. The waiters were just sitting at a back table having a good time talking. They just didn't seem to care even though we were the only two people in the restaurant. Went out to dinner last night with a friend and we decided to stop at this Gem! Maestro's is always consistent when it comes to whipping up the Italian classics and the staff is welcoming and kind. We ordered the Mozzarella Spedini and Calamari Arrabiata to start. My favorite appetizers on the menu! For the main course I asked our Anthony to whip me up something different. I wasn't in the mood for pasta, but I wanted their Vodka Sauce. He mentioned to me their special of Veal Chop Parm, but he substituted the Marinara for Vodka Sauce and I instantly jumped on that. The plate arrived with this Tomahawk style Veal Chop oozing with Vodka Sauce! It was something I've never seen done before but I was all for it. The veal was very tender and full of flavor from the breading that it had. I will definitely make sure to order this again the next time I come here! read more

This strip of businesses on North Avenue sees a good deal of turnover, so it says something that Maestro's has been around for as long as I can remember (to be more specific, 25 years). I recently dropped in for the first time in ages and enjoyed very professional service and really rather good food. Entrees come with both salad and a side, and most are in the $15 or $16 range. I had the excellent chicken parmigiana (with enough for lunch leftovers the next day), and the spinach with melt-in-your-mouth garlic cloves (which I chose over pasta or the other vegetables they had). The fresh salad with vinaigrette was a good start to the meal, and I also recommend the shrimp oreganata entree, which I sampled and thought was very nicely seasoned. Even if I lived in New Rochelle I'm not sure how long it would have taken me to find this place, considering we walked through some back office hallway of a plaza to get to the rear entrance. But people know about it alright; there was a 15-minute wait to be seated on the Thursday before New Years. It's a pretty standard New York Italian restaurant with a mix of booths and tables, a menu of all your favorite Italian dishes and huge baskets of triangle-shaped bread rolls to go around. (It's impossible to find a place like this -- with parking no less -- in Boston. Why? WHY???) I can't remember the name of the chicken dish I had, which must make me a bad Italian, but it had eggplant and mozarella rolled up inside with a mushroom sauce all over it. Man that was good. I tasted the chicken parm, too, which was excellent and would be my choice If I were to return. The only minor downfall was the uneventful ziti side dish. It's not bad, just seemed more like ziti you'd find at buffet table than a sit-down restaurant. I hear the pizza here is good, too, but then again it's New York... Food wasn't good. We did not eat it and the employees didn't even bother to ask if we wanted a discount when they clearly saw our plates were full. We didn't even ask to get it packed. The calamari was 16 dollars and it was very chewy. The veal we got (veal is supposed to be tender which is why most people order it) was VERY chewy. And the pasta tasted like plastic. I understand that maybe it was just a bad day but I'm disappointed in the employees for not even asking if we were okay when we gave the food back. I understand how restaurants work, in fact, I work in one. This was just sad. We literally got sushi right after. We still paid for everything in full. The bill was 66 dollars and my boyfriends card actually got charged 73 dollars. We didn't leave a tip because the service was truly horrible. This place took it upon themselves to take tip money out of his card AFTER we left. It was only two of us so there is not automatic gratuity. The service was good, the food was there when they said it would be. We have lived two miles from Maestro's for over eight years and never noticed it let alone tried it. What a mistake we made! We took out dinner from there last night and had a great meal. This place regularly serves delicious old fashioned Italian food at a neighborhood price. We sometimes get takeout and the kitchen has always been willing to make their fresh fish to my order (and the Livornese is special). Pizza is not to be missed here either. I will say - excellent food! I was there this past Friday night at 9:00 and was disappointed upon entering and not being acknowledged as we should have been. We were asked if we had a reservation, but did not. It took about 10 mins. for us to be seated as personnel fluttered to the front and back and didn't say anything. There were 2 tables right in front that were available. I chose to wait and neither of us was disappointed. The menu is not extensive. I ordered the rigatoni with zucchini and eggplant. The sauce is delicious and it was cooked perfectly. My boyfriend ordered a chicken scaprariello which was also delicious. Will defintely go back. The restaurant is small and probably accommodates 50 people. It's dimly lit, good for couples and cozy. The waiter was also very cordial and did not hover. read more

They have a nice specials board and prices for entrees are good, but Pasta dishes a little high.
