Any restaurant that has thrived for more than four decades must be doing something right, and after my recent visit, it was easy to understand why. From the warm hospitality to the outstanding food, this was one of those dining experiences that leaves a lasting impression. If you're looking for a great excuse to visit midweek, be sure to stop by on Wine Wednesdays, when bottles of wine are half price. It's the perfect opportunity to gather with friends, unwind, and enjoy a leisurely Italian dinner without breaking the bank. Now, let's talk about the food. The standout of the evening was, without question, the double-cut grilled pork chop with vinegar peppers. This wasn't just a good pork chop--it was the best pork chop I've ever eaten. Expertly grilled with a beautiful char on the outside, it remained incredibly juicy and tender on the inside. It was finished with a rich brown sauce and tangy vinegar peppers that added just the right amount of acidity and depth, creating a perfectly balanced dish. The entrée included a choice of pasta or potatoes and vegetables, and I'm so glad I chose the latter. The real mashed potatoes were creamy, buttery, and clearly homemade, while the grilled broccoli and string beans were cooked perfectly--tender with just enough bite remaining. To start, we ordered the Clams Casino special. These were far from the typical version topped with a small amount of bacon and breadcrumbs. Each clam was generously stuffed with a flavorful seasoned breadcrumb mixture and baked to perfection. Served alongside warm seeded Italian bread, it made for an excellent beginning to the meal. The bread was fresh, crusty, and ideal for soaking up every last bit of sauce. My husband ordered the egg battered lemon sole in a white wine butter sauce, and it looked just as impressive as it tasted. The delicate fish was coated in a light egg batter that created a solid exterior while keeping the sole moist and flaky. Accompanying the dish was a generous bowl of penne tossed with garlic and oil, a simple preparation that allowed the quality of the ingredients to shine. Both entrées were served with fresh side salads dressed with a perfectly balanced oil-and-vinegar dressing. One bite immediately brought back memories of the simple, delicious salads my grandmother used to make--fresh, flavorful, and never overdressed. The restaurant itself is tucked away in a small plaza, making it feel like a hidden gem. During the warmer months, guests can take advantage of the spacious outdoor patio, complete with umbrellas and comfortable seating. It provided the perfect setting for a relaxing summer evening filled with great food, good wine, and wonderful company. I left happy, completely satisfied, and already planning my next visit. Mamma Assunta has earned its reputation over the years, and after this meal, I can confidently say it's a place I'll be returning to again and again. Aug 2026, 9 years have pasts since my last review and the restaurant still gets 5 Stars for food and Service. John our Server was wonderful, plus the other guys who filled our water and took away our plates. A basket of warm Italian breads (3 differed varieties) were brought to our table, and they were delicious especially the seeded bread. We ordered the Vitello Sorrentino - Veal scallopini, prosciutto, eggplant mozzarella, mushrooms & marsala wine sauce . The Marsala wine sauce was delicious. My friends ordered Chicken Parmesan and her friend ordered Shrimp with red gravy. Both meals looked delicious and the shrimp were huge. All our meals came with a house salad. All and all we would come back here in a heartbeat. After 9 years their food is still fabulous. read more

Apps included fried calamari. Baked clams and burrata special. Entrees included stuffed calamari over linguini chicken scarpiello. Sole oregonata and various veal dishes. My daughter wrote a shrimp scampi with risotto, my son-in-law, order a pasta dish with sausage and broccoli rabe And I ordered a Pescatore and pasta dish which includes rigatoni this time as well as clams, muscles, calamari and shrimp. I had the hot antipasto appetizers (calamari, fried zucchini, stuffed mushrooms, eggplant parmesan), bruschetta appetizer (tomatoes with cheese on toast), linguine alle vongole (pasta in white wine sauce with clams), house salad, veal Mamma Assunta (veal with prosciutto in a wine sauce), and strawberry shortcake. The calamari and fried zucchini were lightly fried and not greasy. The linguine alle vongole was garlicky and the clams were fresh. The veal was thinly breaded and the sauce was flavorful. My husband and I went here on a Saturday night with no reservations. They were able to see us with a short 10 minute wait we had a drink at the bar and the bartender made a delicious espresso martini and was super friendly. We were seated at a great table with a bustling dining area, the staff was very professional and very attentive. We've been here before and know that the food will be excellent and service as well. We ordered the clams nada for appetizer which are my favorite here and the shrimp scampi and their scallop special both delicious and fresh. Pleasantly surprised at Mamma Assunta. We had an event here on a Sunday afternoon. Hungry, the first thing that arrived was some warm crusty sesame baguette bread freshly sliced and served in a basket beneath a blanket. Second some bruschetta which seemed a bit redundant, but it was still well made and you can taste the delicious Roma tomatoes and quality olive oil. Then hot antipasto appetizers (calamari, fried zucchini, stuffed mushrooms, eggplant parmesan which I was actually hoping were just stuffed shells but still good). Each item was delicious - warm and perfectly seasoned. The linguine alle vongole (pasta in white wine sauce with clams) as good - linguine was perfectly al dente, and the sauce, could just use some more garlic. Veal Mamma Assunta (veal with prosciutto in a wine sauce) was the killer. A generous portion of perfectly breaded veal, signature red sauce, salty prosciutto - I was amazed. The perfectly made potato croquette was also such a nice touch. My only gripe is that there's just one restroom for each men and women, which is difficult if the restaurant is packed. read more

Another one of those many restaurants that I've either walked by or driven by for years which I never dined in. Well, for my wife's birthday, she wanted Italian food so something made me want to try Mama Assunta, and bluntly put, I'll be eating here more often. For starters, this place is much larger than I thought and I'm happy I made reservations because this place was packed with locals and by the taste of their food, it's no wonder why. We started out with their fried calamari and "Burrata Con Prosciutto which was arguably one of the best appetizers I've had in years, in fact , all of Westchester. Their calamari is plentiful, succulent and juicy and not remotely greasy. For our main course, my wife had their lasagna which she took some of it home being that she was full from the best appetizers we've had in years. I had the "Vitello Mama Mia" that also came with their delicious pasta marinara. Coupled with their house Chianti, I must say that I ate every single morsel gleefully while complimenting my great server Anthony. This is so far the best Italian restaurant I've been in all of Westchester County or perhaps anywhere. If you haven't eaten here yet, what are you waiting for? I'll definitely be eating here again soon and bringing some friends with me . Food was not overly-seasoned and you could taste the food itself. Even the pasta sauces were delicately applied so as to enhance the flavor as opposed to providing the flavor. My wife had the Brodetto Del Pescatore and was very pleased. I had the Vitello Sorrentino; my son the Pollo Rollatini. No rush to dinner; service was attentive and the prices quite reasonable. Always excellent food and great wait staff. Not a Place to go if you're looking for a quiet evening as it is a little noisy. Tables are not too close together so you will enjoy a meal with private conversation. Drinks are always made well (usually apple Martini for me). Came in for a family dinner, and man, do I have complaints. The waiter was short and abrupt, not personable, warm, or inviting at all. No joke, the seeded Italian bread was the best tasting thing I had the entire evening. I'm convinced this is "Italian food" for the elderly population because everything was bland, nearly tasteless, and VERY soft, which for someone young and with all their teeth is super off-putting. No depth of texture. I ordered the salmon with vegetables and potatoes. First came the salad course, which they found a way to ruin by having it be over saturated in a dressing that only tasted of olive oil with the tiniest hint of lemon juice. Gross. The salmon had an unappealing presentation and a pathetic portion for its hefty $29 price tag. It was mushy, and their method of "seasoning" was to drizzle balsamic over the top. The vegetables tasted like they were boiled in salt water with their texture to match. They turned to mush when I pressed my fork to them, so that's also disgusting. The potatoes were dry but at least had some rosemary. Didn't try dessert because it looked so unappealing. No enticing colors or flavors, just a monochromatic platter of browns. Took forever to get any of our food and the check. Save your money and go literally anywhere else. I'd literally pick Olive Garden over this place. read more

Generally really like this restaurant. Ordered takeout tonight. Spedino as usual very good. Asked for the stuffed squid fra diavolo instead of marinara, which they did and it was good. However, they did not send it with the penne at all. Also, we ordered polpette della mamma, and they sent something completely different. In short, the order got a little screwed up. Nothing but delicious from start to finish. Warm greeting at the door and it only got better from there. On my request gave me the quiet table in the corner.
