First of all, when we called to make a reservation for 7:20pm we were told that the reservation would be at 7:30pm. Then we were asked if they could push us to 8:00pm but we said no because we had not eaten all day. Funny thing is, when we got to the restaurant at 7:20pm there were so many empty tables that we had our choice of where to sit so why were we told 7:30 or 8:00pm on the phone? Once we were seated we waited for a mad rush to happen to no avail. Then while we were eating our dinner the reservation person came by our table to say goodbye. When we asked what time the restaurant closes she said the kitchen closes at 8:30pm. Again, we were bewildered as to why then she tried to give us an 8:00pm reservation when the kitchen closes at 8:30pm. Moving on to the food. I wanted lobster or something with lobster in it. I was told that the Mahi Mahi came stuffed with lobster. I asked several times if the lobster meat was part of a stuffing or if it was pure chunks of lobster. I was told it was the latter. Imagine my surprise when the stuffed Mahi Mahi was cut open and it was full of a stuffing mixture and chunks of lobster were nowhere to be found. That was it for me. I was done. I expressed my disappointment with the dish and once again reiterated how I inquired before I ordered the distinction between a stuffing or breading type filler versus whole chucks of lobster and was assured that I would have whole chunks of lobster which was clearly not the case. On the positive side, the cream sauce over the Mahi Mahi was delicious and the waiter was very nice and accommodating and she even offered to make something else for me but I told her no, I would eat what I have because I don't believe in wasting food. She then said you can eat what you ordered and I will make something for you to take home. I declined that offer as well. So she brought a slice of crème brûlée cheesecake for me to take Home. Hubby had the clams oregano and chicken parmigiana. He said they were okay. We both agreed we would not go back. read more

My family and I have made it a point to go here for New Years Eve dinner, as a tradition for the past 5 years. That alone should speak to the quality of their service. We had a nice evening at the Arthur Avenue-seque Italian restaurant. The space is nice and the bar looked inviting. The staff were lovely. I was thinking about wearing shorts to the restaurant but there was a dress code posted on the website. I dressed accordingly and was bemused when a man at the table to our right was wearing a tank top and a man at the table to our left was wearing shorts and a t-shirt. Cocktails and drinks were very good and very generous. This place has about the best wine pours ever. We were started off with a small plate of olives, cheese and salami, along with a bread basket. We shared a bunch of appetizers. The meatballs were excellent. They put together an really good plate of mozzarella and prosciutto for us. The baby artichokes were OK. Three of our party ordered the seafood special over pasta. The restaurant happily changed the mix of seafood to please each diner. I had swordfish that was pretty good and subbed linguine for mashed potatoes. We were too full for dessert, but the coffee was very good. The prices were reasonable. We had a very nice evening at La Fontanella. The staff went out of their way to make sure that we got exactly what we wanted. read more

La fontanella is a classic Italian restaurant. Went there for a large group lunch. The bread was hot and delicious. At one point the staff walked by with paper bags full of bread fresh from the bakery. 3 of the people I was with wanted their fish broiled without butter or additional sauce. The restaurant accommodated their request with expert execution. The charcuterie was varied, generous and very tasty. House Cabernet was full and easy to drink. The staff was attentive and prompt. We had an especially lovely meal at La Fontenella. It is an attractive restaurant that clearly attracts a lot of customers. We were a party of 8, and they put us at a nice round table. The various staff who worked with our group were all friendly, helpful, and professional. We ordered many appetizers, an entree each, and a few desserts. Everything was really top notch. There were many unusual and interesting offerings on the menu. I had a special of the evening, beef Bourgogne over pasta. We were there for a special occasion and it was really special. The restaurant offers take out during this time so we decided to order to support our local businesses during this hardship, can't wait to get back to a normal life. Disappointing, my wife booked a reservation for 5 @ 6:30pm. Upon arriving at the restaurant they claimed to not have a the reservation which was made on their website. They made little to no effort to accommodate us and turned us away or wait 45 minutes for a table. Many minutes later as we were outside getting into our car and trying to now find another available restaurant to take our fathers out for Fathers day (we like to go out the day before a holiday) the man from inside who turned us away came outside and tried to call us back in to come and eat. I looked at the man and with all the restraint I could possess I just waved him away. People really think they can treat you anyway and you will come in and spend money with them. Instant favorite! Some good friends took myself and my wife here for a belated birthday dinner,and suggested the VITELLO CARUSO and it was AMAZING. Probably the best veal dish I've ever had,period. 3 out of the 4 of us ate this as our dinner. My wife had the SALMONE SELVATICO,which I'd tasted and not being big on salmon,I was very impressed. As appetizers we'd had MUSSELS POLIPSO and CALAMARI GRIGLIATI which was also GREAT. The portions were enough to not over fill us,and beyond delicious- that good. Carmine was our waiter- a true gentleman who'd made sure our every need was met. Service and food were excellent,as I don't usually give 5-star reviews. UPDATE: Under new management. Old staff was replaced with an all new staff. Food was horrible and so was the service! Used to go every Saturday to see Luisa & Alfredo and always had AMAZING food/service. It isn't the same at all. Received my meal with the appetizer and was finished with my meal by the time my wife received her meal and to top things off, she got the wrong meal! We were given the option of a full portion or half portion (never before offered) and the only difference was the plate size. Lastly, the raviolis were frozen (first time ever being served frozen pasta). BRING BACK THE OLD CREW!!! PS- Two separate couples (also regulars) sat at the bar, ordered their usual drinks, complained about their drinks and walked out as soon as they found out Alfredo & Luisa were no longer employed there. read more

Ordered burata for the appetizer, came with no bread and I had to ask for bread, I assumed that was standard, guess not. Got the NY Strip, ordered it medium, came well done and full of fat. Was barely able to eat half of it. Came out with barely any mashed potatoes. Wait staff barely came to the table and I ate most of the meal without water. Very upset with service and food for the prices. Would not recommend this restaurant to anyone and am baffled how it has such good reviews. Would give no stars if I could. read more

We came here for Valentine's Day and were lucky enough to get the 7:30 dinner slot because the restaurant isn't very big and seating is very limited . Thankfully they have a lot where you can park because parking is not easy around this neighborhood. Once we walked in we were greeted by the hostess pretty fast and seated immediately once she verified our reservation. Our waiter arrived with in minutes to take our drink orders and then gave us our menus which for the holiday was a pre-fixed Menu that wasn't my favorite but it wasn't terrible . I ordered the grilled calamari as my appetizer, the pan seared sea bass as my entree and the tiramisu as my dessert. The calamari was ok, a bit rubbery but not terrible and the taste was very light and delicious. I was definitely not impressed with the pan seared sea bass, it arrived coated with butter which caused the pan seared part to be soggy and very overwhelming and the tiramisu was very fresh and tasty. When the waiter came to take our plates he asked if I wanted my meal to go and I proceeded to tell him no I didn't like it and instantly the manager or owner not sure who he was came over , was so friendly and accommodating pretty much telling me to order anything I want off the regular menu or the pre-fix menu that he felt terrible .. it was nice to see that , I loved that they really cared about me as a customer and to be so open and accommodating would definitely have me returning sooner then later. So in my book they get 5 's for service , taste , price and friendliness! If your in the area I would % recommend you come by and have a meal! read more

The staff was excellent -- best service I've ever had. The restaurants head master, Florio, was phenomenal. We went there this week, a party of five. I had my reservations about going back to this establishment because of very poor service and horrible food in the past. But, I was told that they were under new management, so I decided to join my friends. WOW, what a difference. The Staff was very attentive and nice not rude, as I had previously encountered. My girlfriend and I went here for a romantic dinner and were underwhelmed to say the least. To start with, the ambiance is reminiscent of a pizza place rather than a high end restaurant. The service hit on many of my pet peeves. They didn't seat us with a menu and left us. A waiter then came over and asked us if we wanted drinks I responded that I would like to see a menu and wine list before I decided what I wanted. During the meal, the waiters were obtrusive. They etiquette was terrible interrupting us mid conversation. At one point our waiter reached over the table and my wine glass to put cheese on my girlfriends plate. I watched as he did this to another couple and proceeded to knock over a vase onto a gentleman's lap. Waiters came to another table to sing happy birthday!? I started to wonder, why I shouldn't have expected the TGIF Fridays' experience. Oh wait, because I was dropping 200 dollars in the place. It was just insane. The food, while decent, used lower end products to cut costs. The "Oso bucco" was a lamb shank. I had a 30 second conversation with our waiter trying to explain that he must be mistaken because Oso bucco is veal. The Shiitake mushroom ravioli came with strips of shiitake mushrooms, but the plate was predominantly filled with button mushrooms. These types of short cuts just made me feel as though I was being taken advantage of. We both came to the conclusion that if this is the best Pelham has to offer, we would rather spend our money elsewhere. read more

Came here for a birthday dinner. Was impressed by the impeccable service (wait staff in tuxes/suits) and delicious food. Loved the appetizers (seafood crepe, avocado stuffed w crabmeat, prosciutto) and the entrees were excellent. Each in our party had fish or fowl, enjoying all dishes. The shrimp scampi dish was phenomenal. This is a real, traditional, classic restaurant. It's not your pizza shop with restaurant Italian joint. It is unapologetically not trendy but is rather true to classic ideals of serving the customer with great food & service (& we all noted with appreciation they didn't push the tables- very relaxed!). Before we placed our order, we were served a basket of warm bread with butter and a plate of olives, cheese, and sliced sausage. Our table enjoyed: carpacio appetizer, Caesar salad for the first course. Our entrees: gnocchi in a tomato basil sauce, seafood risotto, sea bass on mashed potatoes special, pappardelle with prosciutto. Everything was excellent! My wife and I went for dinner on Valentine's Day! The 3 course $55 menu was awesome! We both loved our first course, my wife had calamari and I had the Lobster cakes! We both loved it! For the main I got the tortellini which I absolutely loved. My wife on the other hand stepped out of her comfort zone and ordered the sea bass. Although it was good it was just not what she thought she was ordering. Before dessert my wife mentioned that she wasn't a huge fan of the fish to the waiter and the owner came over a few seconds later. He told my wife she could literally order anything she wanted from the set menu or even the regular menu. At first my wife didn't want to be a bother but the owner insisted so we took shrimp scampi to go which my wife enjoyed the next day. I genuinely appreciate the level of customer care they provided to us. Best gazpacho I have ever had!!!! We went on a warm, summer day and wanted something fresh and easy while sitting outside in the shade (at the time). We ordered some soups and salads and boy were we blown away with that gazpacho! Everything else was very nice. The olives and bread--which they bring to the table after you order--was a nice touch. The service was excellent, but we were there for lunch, so I can not speak to the service at dinner. The complimentary biscotti was a nice touch with the espresso. The best Pelham has to offer... Recently renovated this place never fails to deliver. Authentic Italian cuisine with modern presentation and excellent service. If you are craving traditional "old school" Italian food than this is your place...plenty of items to choose from but I recommend their pastas and/or ossobuco which are cooked to perfection always @ La Fontanella. Best Restaurant in Pelham, hands down. Formal dining room, but in the summer some are wearing shorts. I prefer eating at the bar on the weekdays. Best appetizers are the salads, grilled octopus, calamari, stuffed figs. Nightly specials for main course, I typically go for the the pounded veal chop or osso bucco. Everything is excellent and the owner couldn't be nicer. We started a tradition last year of taking the whole family to Fontanella for Xmas eve and look forward to going for many to come. read more

I want to start this review by saying that service here was absolutely excellent. If you want to know what it feels like to be waited on in an old-school fancy restaurant, this will give it to you. The waiter was also playful in that old school way, needling us when we didn't order dessert. If the food matched the service, this would be a 5-star restaurant. But the food was overall just meh. There was nothing wrong with it; it was certainly tasty. There was just nothing special about it. For a fancy meal, I'll probably go somewhere with really dazzling food next time, even if the service isn't quite as good. read more
