This is the best Italian on this side of the Atlantic. Caccio e Pepe is perfect, as good as in Rome. ALL the food is fantastic. It's a tiny place so make a reservation. From start to finish you won't be disappointed. Oh and the wine list is excellent and service is wonderful.

Great authentic simple Italian food. Our first visit here was exceptional, food was delicious and service was excellent. It's a hidden gem.

This was my first visit, along with eight others for our monthly wine group dinner. The restaurant is located at the end of a small strip mall and had been recently expanded, providing for a more open and casual vibe. One of the members of our group is a regular here and this was a showcase event for him...he had warned us that "Rena likes to feed people". This was a spot-on prediction. I spent a few minutes speaking with Rena, the owner (along with her husband who is the chef) and learned of her move from Rome with her children (who now work in the dining room and at a sister restaurant. A remarkably warm and kind lady. She was excited to host and had set the table perfectly for us..extra wine glasses, classy "dump" pitchers, a side table for the ten wines and ice bucket for the white starter and Vin Santo for dessert. Theme was Produttori Barbaresco with focus on single vineyard Riservas from 1967 to 2011. There followed an onslaught of fabulous food, in order: cold antipasto with fresh burrata, bruschetta with fresh tomatoes, grilled octopus, eggplant in a pistachio cream sauce, spaghetti in a light parmesan over which we shaved a 2oz fresh black truffle, wild boar ragu pappardelle, grilled strips of meat and grilled baby lamb chops...we were forced to halt the fish course to Rena's disappointment. Dessert was an amazingly light multi-layer pastry with a pistachio cream that killed with the dessert wine. So stuffed I had to drive from the back seat! An amazing time, great dinner and will be sure to return for a smaller stuffing! Bravo!

I have passed this pls e a million times. Finally friends we were meeting for dinner suggested Spadaro. We had 7:45 reservations, the restaurant was busy. When you first walk in, there's a little market, you can purchase pastas etc. we were seated in the other room. They started us out with an outrageous Italian bread that was toasted and drizzled with olive oil on it. And then a garlic clove was there to spread on top of it. We started with drinks, and 3 appetizers. We had: meat balls, rice balls, and an amazing eggplant. Then we had cod, salmon and the branzino! Spinach and mushrooms were side orders. We ordered 2 deserts to taste. They were made in house and excellent. One was a pistachio cake, the other was a Nutella. Both were great. Service was on point. They were busy, but the servers were on top of it! Can't believe I never stopped in here before!!

Lamb ragu

A small Italian restaurant, tastes very authentic, possibly the best Italian restaurant I've been too outside of Italy. Lamb Ragu and spaghetti carbonara was amazing, for apps we got meatballs, eggplant in pistachio creme and fried stuffed zucchini, all great. The service was also great being very friendly and tips on what to get.

Just me, which I was hoping there would be a bar so I could sit at it rather than take up a whole table but - was sat immediately and ordered a drink. Inside is very small - Long and thin with dark ambience and low lighting. Liked the atmosphere a lot. As a table of one, they brought out table rolls with a bruschetta type spread to put on them. This was good - though butter would have been fine too. The waitress explained specials, and I went with the handmade mozzarella cheese sticks for my appetizer. These were very good. The marinara was also tangy and tasty. For my entree I ended up ordered both the cacio e pepe and the special chicken Parmesan with tri-color sauce. The cacio e pepe was VERY good. Al dente noodles, the sauce was about as perfect as you can ask for - just the right balance of cream and pepper. Wow. The tri-color chicken Parmesan was incredibly good too: thin and crispy chicken, a thin layer of cheese melted on top, and the three sauces on top of that providing a tapestry of tasty flavors: marinara, vodka, and pesto. I could eat that all day. So good and a MUST HAVE if you travel here. The dish also came with a small side of vodka sauce on penne. I ended up with tiramisu as dessert, though they were missing a dark chocolate item which would have been perfect. Sipped a coffee and paid satisfied. A 5-star from me is pretty rare - so again: GET HERE - IT IS A FLAWLESS PLACE.

From a current Westchester resident, my sister, mom and I were hesitant to go , but we were proved wrong that it was a great restaurant. We were a party of 7, and we all felt cared for, the staff was understanding, and attentive from the moment we sat down to leave. Each member in my party had something diffferent: 1. Chicken sandwich 2. Burger 3. Ahi tuna tacos 4. Carbonora (x2) 5. Chicken capricossa 6. Chicken Parm - and even accommodated vodka sauce instead of regular marinara sauce. Wine was nicely poured, cocktails were tasty (although I didn't love my raspberry martini) beer was cold. The restaurant was clean and tidy, and welcoming. Will be coming back ASAP!

We ordered one of their pies half pesto and half fried eggplant -- such a good combo. The eggplant was perfectly crisp, and the pesto paired with pickled onions was an unexpected but delicious collab. We also had the beet salad with ricotta, which was fresh and flavorful. Large metal chandeliers adorn the ceilings and it has an upscale, rustic vibe with candles on the tables. Their menu is enticing. It's Italian inspired, but has lots of variety beyond the classic dishes. The appetizers were fantastic. The crispy artichokes were airy and melted in your mouth. The brussel sprouts were deliciously crispy with a pleasantly sweet sauce. I enjoyed the pistachios on them. The eggplant fries were a unique offering and very tasty topped with crumbled parmesan cheese. They would've been even better with a dipping sauce. For my main, I had the mushroom ravioli. The sauce was rich and creamy and it was topped with sharp parmesan and arugula. I enjoyed it, but the portion size was quite small, as the dish only included four pieces of ravioli. My husband got the black linguine and enjoyed the accompanying cream sauce with shrimp and lobster. To drink, I had the queen margherita, which was nice and tangy from the passion fruit. Disappointed by the experience -- not what we've come to expect from The Modern…read more The four of us have been to The Modern many times and usually enjoy sitting at the bar for a more relaxed experience. Last night, however, was deeply disappointing. From the start, there was pressure to place food orders quickly, even though we were just settling in. We did order appetizers and later entrees--not an unreasonable timeline--but it felt like we were being hurried for no reason. The real issue came when we ordered a gluten-free pizza with toppings. What was delivered was essentially a round piece of bread with toppings -- not remotely what we expected. We tried several times to flag down the bartender, who proved extremely difficult to get the attention of. When we finally spoke to him and explained the error, the pizza was taken back, but then... nothing. We waited. And waited. More than 30 minutes passed while the rest of us finished our meals -- and still no replacement pizza. When we brought it up again, the bartender's attitude was indifferent at best. Frustrated, I went to the hostess stand and explained the situation. To their credit, the response was immediate: a manager stepped in, apologized, offered a round of drinks on the house, and ensured the corrected dish came out quickly. That level of service--from the manager and hostess--was appreciated and helped salvage the evening, but the overall experience was the worst we've ever had at The Modern. We may go back, but it will be with hesitation. The service at the bar needs serious attention. A restaurant of this caliber should never let service--or guest experience--slip this far.
