This place has Pepsi products so don't make the foolish decision of asking the waiter for a purple Fanta. The service was flawless with speed that cannot be topped. Plus Barnacle was the perfect stop and a mere 2 minute walk from our hotel walking the Perkins Cove Drawbridge. Sitting outdoors by Perkins Cove with the fisher boats right by us- was a sight! Went there on a dreary, rainy Thursday a couple of weeks ago. It wasn't crowded, and I chose to sit in the dining room. My server was Taryn, and she was wonderful. I hadn't been there since before Covid and she warmly welcomed me back. She was attentive, friendly and efficient. I am a solo diner and I really appreciated her service. And of course, the food was excellent! They lit the fire in the fireplaces while I was there which made it nice and cozy. Perfect on a gloomy day. So disappointed with our experience today. We sat at the bar where the bartender was grumpy and rude. My friend asked about corn on the cob and the bartender snapped that they don't have it. The food was ok but the "famous" rum punch was just "meh". Throughout our meal, the bartender glared at us, ignored us when we asked questions and just put a huge damper on the day. I've been going to Perkins Cove all my life and I had never been to Barnicle Billy's in alll these years. We decided we needed to see what all the hype was about so we headed over. We weren't quite sure how the process was here when we walked in, there was a counter with employees behind that was much like a pizza joint. We ordered our lobster and steamers and had to pay for it there and it was to be brought to our table when ready. So we paid for our dinner and tipped generously there. We found a table out on the deck to enjoy the beautiful views. A server came and brought us our dinner and checked for drinks and all. Confusing system. Do the servers get tips from the front ordering station? We already tipped them generously there, are we supposed to tip the servers too? Our dinner was good, but seriously anyone can make steamers and lobster. The only thing that was great was the view. I wouldn't want to sit inside if there wasn't any outside tables available. This was just very ok. Server took a while to even come get our drink orders and it wasn't very busy. The food was fine. I do appreciate that I could get the lobster roll warm or cold. This is my favorite place ever!! It's located 20 minutes from my parents' house and I am based in LA, so I only get to go a few times a year, but when I am home I go as much as I can. I get the mussels every single time. As someone who counts mussels as her favorite food, these are my favorite mussels. Ever. They're small - the way I like them. Run punch is unbeatable. Was visiting Maine and this restaurant was on our short list. Yeah, perhaps it used to be great, but not any more!! First, the order process is horrible. Apparently they segregate the bar from the restaurant or something. The gal at the register was rude and so confusing to order. I was paying and ended up having two tickets. There was no chance to tip when I charged, they had a cash tip jar on the counter but people were piling up behind me so I told her I would come by with the tip on my way out (which I did). She got all defensive like, "you don't have to tip" and gave me a bit of an attitude. Whatever. We ordered a lobster roll and steamed clams. Luckily we also ordered their garlic bread because that was really the best thing on our table. I had never had a lobster roll, but my sister who lives in Maine said it didn't look "right", something off about the color or sauce or something. It came with some Ruffles chips and sweet pickles. It was sprinkled with paprika (I think). I didn't think it was bad, but it was my first so who knows. I ate it and left the pickles behind. My sisters ate their clams but were a bit confused. Perhaps it is an East coast thing but what the heck are we supposed to do with the broth? One sister thought to pour it over the dry clams, which made the paper tray leak the broth all over the table. So, apparently not that. It came in a cup so it would have been awkward to dip, but a quick search of the Internet turned up nothing helpful. They had a tough time cutting the clams out of their shells, but seemed happy enough dipping them in the butter. The star of the show was the amazing garlic bread!! That and the atmosphere are the only reasons this review even has 2 stars. One of my favorite seafood/lobster joints in Southern Maine. The lobster is amazing, being in Perkins Cove , home to many lobstermen, it's no wonder it was a favorite of President George and Barbara Bush. The atmosphere is no nonsense and at times especially in the summer, the service can be somewhat rushed. Known not only for delicious lobster but they make a stellar rum punch. Don't usually write reviews, but we were so disappointed by our recent visit! We were surprised to see they've made the change from a full service restaurant to an order at the counter format. This would be fine if the quality of the food had remained. There is no children's menu, although the portions are sort of child-sized anyway. We had a couple cheeseburgers which were served on soggy buns, basically sitting in a puddle of beef juice. They looked like pre-formed, frozen patties. No lettuce, tomato, etc except for a cup of pickles on the side. A McDonald's burger is better, IMO. My husband ordered a lobster roll which he labeled as "not very good." Sodas were in a small cup filled mostly with ice. No fries on the menu. The best part of the experience was the free (but valet) available parking across the street. We won't be returning. read more

First vacation since December 2019 took us on a bus tour of New England for the fall colors. Ended up in the town of Ogunquit Maine. Order two cold lobster rolls, you could get hot ones, cole slaw, a coffee and iced tea. The total came to $75. The lobster rolls were good after I added a packet of mayonnaise. Coleslaw was okay as were the free sweet pickles. The coffee was warm not hot and costly at $3.50. At $4.50 the iced tea was too much. Found this place while walking to see Perkins cove, decided to grab something to eat. Made entry into a very nicely decorated pub/bar, we were asked if we wanted to sit inside or outside and we chose to be seated inside and was seated within a couple minutes, our table was in a corner with a nice view overlooking the harbor. Our waitress came with a few minutes and took our drink order, after a few minutes she came back with our drinks and took our food order, Lobster roll with fries for my wife and fish and chips for me. While waiting for our food we had an issue with flies and had to keep shooing them off. After about 15 minutes the waitress returned with our food. The food was hot, but that's where it ended, the fish when you broke it open had water pour out like it had been cooked frozen, and tasted like the fish from Captain D's, my wife commented and said her lobster roll was hot also but was bland and was lacking any seasoning . While trying to eat we still had to shoo away the flies. We give this place a 5 out of 10 rating. read more

Nice portion of lobster. The crab roll was a delightful surprise. Have never had a crab roll and this made me a crab roll lover. Sweet crab meat. Light Mayo. Toasted roll. Delicious. The clam chowder definitely earned its name. Chocked full of clams. Thick and savory. The rum punch was a little strong for my taste, but if you're looking for a strong drink, this is a winner! Stopped by for a quick Rum Punch on outside deck. Eek I could not drink it, after 20 + years of enjoying their signature punch, I took one sip & eek. I politely asked for it to be remade. My waitress, was busy scratching, literally scratch tickets at a table with, what appeared to be a family member. She was not happy with my request. The new rum punch arrived & eek, it tasted rancid. I paid my tab & was about to leave & 4 middle age woman, 3 tables away were also sending their Rum Punches back. Mgr arrived, basically said it was us, & left in a huff. I paid the $14.00 for my two sips, but just have to say there is some type of glitch. So, so many other places to enjoy a beverage:) read more
