One time it was super busy at the bar and it took a long time for our drinks to arrive, but without hesitation our waiter told us the drinks were on the house. Nice spot for some good food. Everything was made fresh and you can watch them make the pizzas in the kitchen from the dough to oven. Very nice staff and wife selection of food. Octopus was a very tasty. Priced at a bit higher for the area but food is certainly up to par. Place does get busy so try to reserve a table if possible. Bar Pazzo is an Italian style Restaurant unlike anything else in the entire valley. Beautiful atmosphere, great prices, and even better service. I am very happy to be sharing our experience with you! We began with the "Mixed Lettuce" Salad. Please don't be fooled by its simplistic name, this dish was hands down the best salad I have ever been served. Seriously. Toasted Pignoli, Gorgonzola Dolce, Wood roasted fruit salad, and moscato vinaigrette over mixed greens . Holy Fuck. I should just end the review of Pazzos "Margherita Pizza" right there. Nothing else needs to be said other than the fact that they imported a traditional wood fire oven from Italy. The dough is fermented for 3 days and cooks in under 3 minutes. I had tried to substitute an ingredient and was informed by the wait staff that the chef prefers to not substitute as to deliver his original vision for the recipes. I respect everything about this and I am very pleased that I did not push the issue. "Fior di Latte, dop Tomato sauce, and Basil. "Tasting of Three" just isn't enough. In a perfect world this entree would be altered to become "Tasting of One Hundred." First, Cacio E Pepe (Vermicelli, toasted pepper, pecorino,Romano) Second, Ragu Alla Campania ( Pappardelle, Braised Pork, Meats, Locatelli) and Third, Butternut Squash Plin (Pinched Ravioli with Sage, Hazelnuts, and Parmesan.) Simply Flawless. My personal favorite was the Cacio e Pepe. "Crostini e Porchetta" was a belly full to say the least. We ended up taking home at least half of it. Oddly enough, the star of the show was the house baked sour dough. I have not eaten bread of this caliber in many, many years. "Sea Salt & Caramel Gelato" are you a fan of Gelatos? Order it. Are you a fan of ice cream? Order it. Are you human? Order it. House made, fresh, delicious. I agree with all the other reviews. The food is very good, and the atmosphere is fun, friendly, and hip. But, beware. The menu is somewhat pricey for a place in Scranton - that's Ok - because the food is good quality and the recipes are creative. But when I discovered that I was charged $3.50 for two slices of bread to accompany an $18.00 small antipasto plate, I felt cheated. Although I enjoyed my visit to Bar Pazzo, I'll think twice before returning. I don't like it when people take advantage of me. read more

This place was adorable, cozy, and spotlessly clean! The pizza was pretty good. There was a vegan pizza, but salad seemed to be the only other vegan option. The pizza had mushrooms, black and green olives, peppers, and onions topped with arugula. Fresh ingredients! It gets a 4 out of 5 due to the lack of vegan options and the fact that I ordered a Diet Coke and the server failed to communicate that they only had Diet Pepsi and brought me one anyway. If you are a fan of Diet Coke reading this, you know that if the server had asked "Is Pepsi okay?" the answer would've be a hard "no." read more

I've been in Scranton on business this week. I came here on a recommendation from a student in my class. I have come here twice this week. It's a very good restaurant. The pasta is excellent. Pizzas are cooked in an appropriate oven to get hot enough to make real pizza. The prosciutto/cheese plates are a real bargain. The meatball appetizer is stellar. I will come here again when I visit. I hope that this new restaurant continues to do well. It's difficult in Scranton to do well. I think that the close proximity to the Lackawanna County Courthouse will help. This is my second time to Bar Pazzo. Saturday night before easter and the place was packed! Waiting about 25 mins for a seat since they DO NOT take reservations for parties smaller than 5. (Keep this in mind on a Friday or Saturday evening. We waited for our waiter for another 15 mins. It was okay because my date and I were relaxed and entertaining each other over a glass of wine. Wine selection is nice and the drinks are well done. The menu is something a bit different for the NEPA area. Something you would more likely see in the Manhattan. Which is a good attempt. The food: good for the downtown area of Scranton however the attempt at a more contemporary style would not compete with the bigger city offerings if you're from out of state. There are a lot of small hometown restaurants that do Italian and even contemporary Italian menus much better in Scranton, especially for the price. I ordered a cavatelli dish with mushrooms and English peas. Olive oil or butter based sauce. The dish was dry, and a small portion for the price. My date kept it light with a salad as it was a late meal. The meatballs are fantastic and pizza.... is pizza. If you're in the NEPA, there are too many niche pizza restaurants and this is not one of them. Traditional NY style pizza. My biggest gripe with Bar Pazzo is the noise level. You cannot hear yourself think. It's a vacuous echo chamber. You're ears will certainly ring after a weekend evening dinner there. Overall. This restaurant is a good choice for a night out on the downtown. (First Friday art galleries, a walk around the square or any of the other events there.) as the downtown continues to grow and improve I find Bar Pazzo may need to alter some things and keep it fresh to compete. read more

Stumbled upon this great spot with the help of you fellow Yelpees! While traveling through the area, we chose to enjoy lunch on the outdoor patio, which sits in what appeared to be the heart of the city. Excellent find in Scranton! Our waitress Laura was amazing. The hostess Gabriella was very pleasant. Even out servers' assistant Dan was very knowledgeable and should definitely wait tables. The food was impressive. Polpette was unreal. If you don't order the meatballs you are missing out. You get 3 but they are large and their gravy is unreal. A girlfriend and I recently had dinner here, and wowza, what a nice time we had! We both got salads and split the hot olive appetizer (I've never even heard of warm olives before, they were very good). The wine selection was also great. I'm looking forward to trying the pizza next time I dine here. What I appreciated much more than the food was the atmosphere and service. My girlfriend and I hadn't seen each other in quite a while, and none of the servers rushed us or made us feel obligated to hurry. In fact, we were there for about 3 hours, which I realize is pretty long, and the chef actually sent is over complimentary gelato (I had the orange, and it was bliss)! Almost all the food is great. The atmosphere is vibrant and fun. The waitstaff is helpful and not overbearing, and they have some of the best gelato and espresso I have ever had. Wonderful place, and very reasonably priced, a real gem. I had the ragu and the meatball appetizer which were both excellent ( I was really hungry). Then I had an affogato which was honestly the best gelato and espresso I have ever had. The only let down were the zeppolis, they were salty and chewy, seemed like pizza dough to me. After reading the glowing review in the local paper and other reviews here we were all excited to go here for dinner. I called and requested a reservation and was told they weren't accepting reservations, sidewalk tables for COVID were first come, first served. We arrived shortly after 4 pm and were immediately asked if we had a reservation, we said no and they advised we could sit at one of the tables but would need to be no longer than an hour because it was reserved - we probably should have taken the cue and left but really wanted to try the "fresh pasta and pizza" that was being raved about in other reviews. We also had no plans of lingering, an hour was more than enough time for us. We started with a Margherita for the table that was just ok, it was a little on the greasy side and the flop killed it for me. I had visions of pizzas I had had in Rome when I saw that pizza oven and things just stayed at that level for the duration. We repeatedly asked for silverware that never arrived and the entrees were really just ok... maybe it's a "Covid" thing? I will try it again when I am up in these parts again post-Covid to be sure-I hope things turn around or maybe I just got an off night but I really didn't see or taste anything that lived up to the hype?? read more

Bar Pazzo has been a blessing straight from heaven for me. It's both the perfect spot to splurge on some amazing pizza, fantastic meats and cheeses, and delicious deserts, and a great spot just to grab a quick, relatively inexpensive bite. The staff are friendly and professional and give an experience on par with what you'd expect from more expensive restaurants in larger cities. Seriously, every waiter or waitress I've gotten would fit right in at Butcher and Singer or Parc back in Philadelphia- truly professional. Pazzo is, in my humble opinion, the best restaurant in Scranton and the surrounding areas, providing better food than even more expensive restaurants around like Terra Preta Prime (not to say that TPP isn't excellent, as it is also a great restaurant, but not quite on Pazzo's level in my opinion ). I had ordered the beet salad and got about 6 slices of wonderfully cooked beets arranged decoratively on a platter with a bare minimum of the other ingredients (goat cheese, arugula, nuts, etc. ) It wouldn't have made a bad appetizer, but calling it a meal and selling it for $11 was ridiculous. It was $3 tops in ingredients, and the cheese and nuts in particular had been crushed up into tiny pieces and delivered sparingly. The service was good, but the food didn't meet expectations.
