Friendly staff! Stopped in while in town for some coffee. I had an ice hazelnut coffee and tried the Nutella Budka. Both were decent. It was also only $8 for both where if you go to a chain like Starbucks that would easily be around $20. It's a great location downtown, great for a light bite and on point espresso drinks. There was a steady flow of customers so there was some time to decide what to get. They have maybe 20 flavors of Monin syrup. I chose Gingerbread for my Cortado- I had to toast my own bagel- which I didn't realize at first, which was fine. Very cute cozy nooks to read or do a bit of work, noise level was low. Price point was reasonable. I would definitely consider going back again. Only downside is there is only one single bathroom and it's not convenient to stand outside the door to wait. read more

This coffee shop was a cute and cozy place to get some work done on a Saturday morning. I stopped in and ordered a latte and quiche. The quiche flavor was veggie, although it didn't have a ton of flavor. It was still nice to have a warm quiche with my latte, which was great. The space itself is cozy and inviting, and I especially liked the upper loft for sitting and working in quiet. The person preparing the drinks was a little curt and rude when speaking to customers and the other employee taking orders, but he may have just been busy. I was soo excited to finally try this café and I wanted to LOVE it but sadly it was just average. The espresso was delicious, I had a dirty chai tea latte. I wanted an alternative milk but they only offer soy, oat, and whole milk. It would have been nice to have some sort of nut milk or lower calorie milk option. I also ordered the sausage egg and cheese breakfast sandwich, to go. This was supper disappointing but they just microwaved it and then wrapped it in plastic. By the time I got it home it was soo soggy. The ambiance was cute but the service was average, if I didn't say good morning the barista would have just started taking my order. My 15 year old self would be so happy this place is still thriving after all these years. Frozen hot chocolate? Check. Massive sugar cookies on display? Check. Addicting nutty/coffee bean smell that sticks to your clothes even after you leave? Check. Whimsical artwork and cozy upstairs seating, like you're in the Gryffindor common room? Oh yeah. With that said, my 32 year old stomach cannot handle an icy hot chocolate sugar rush slurped rapidly through a straw, so I didn't finish it. Northern Light was the first place I drove to when I got my license when I was 16. Since then, this has been a staple for regular coffee dates with friends. I've tried a ton of drinks on the menu and they are always fantastic! The pastries and cookies are good as well. Northern Light has a nostalgia that I cannot describe, but beyond that it is a fantastic coffee shop and a staple of the downtown Scranton area. I was just on a work trip, staying in a hotel relatively close to Northern Light for a few weeks. One morning, around 7AM, I yelped coffee shops near me and this was the top choice. I was excited to try it, but when I arrived at the doors of Northern Light, I was shocked with disappointment because they were closed. I strongly suggest that a coffee shop should open before 7:30AM to accommodate the early risers and people who have to get to work! Despite my first attempt at trying to grab a beverage here, I still really wanted to try it so I stopped in after work one day. The inside is warm and cozy. The cafe is pretty big and has ample seating. They have a variety of coffee, teas, and smoothies, as well as ready-to-go food items. I ordered a mango smoothie and an iced Americano (black). The smoothie was smooth and delicious, I was impressed. The Americano was also good! I would definitely recommend if you are looking for a caffeine fix in the late morning or afternoon. read more

We were in Scranton for a wedding on 5/18/24 and walked from our hotel to get coffee. I ordered a regular coffee and my wife got an ice coffee. This was the worst coffee we ever had. It tasted like day old instant coffee and the eggs and bacon thing wrapped in a burrito wrap was microwaved and I only could stand one bite. Please get a job at Star Bucks and learn to make decent coffee. Who are these people giving good reviews here? Family members? read more

Northern Lights was a perfect stop during a trip to Scranton to check out the Steamtown National Historic Site. They've got an array of prepared lunch options and about five tables out in front of their handsome storefront, which was just what we were looking for. We got a couple of very good turkey hummus wraps and a quiche, and it was super relaxing to sit on their table outside across from the beautiful leafy plaza hosting the Lackawanna County courthouse across the street. It has a warm and cozy feel with a nice selection of drinks, pastries, etc. Unfortunately I cannot speak about the coffee (I'll have to go back to try it) but I have had a smoothie and a blended vanilla chai latte. The smoothie I would absolutely recommend. But I will caution you about the blended vanilla chai latte- the emphasis was heavily on the vanilla and it was more like a milkshake with a hint of gingerbread than something chai. This could be my mistake because there were several chai options and I probably should have chosen "spiced chai". The interior has cozy couches and chairs and tables with free WiFi. They also have some board games available for patrons in the back on a shelf near the bathrooms. It's definitely a nice place to hang out. Would (and probably will) return! read more

I haven't eaten in due to restrictions, but have had quite a few of to go items. The cookies and muffins are so good. I would be lying if I said the initial draw didn't have something to do with the name after experiencing the Northern Lights firsthand up north. Just sayin' Impressive list of teas...black, green, herbal, white, tisane, oolong, rooibos. Over 2 dozen syrups including sugar free with gems such as toasted almond mocha, toasted marshmallow, spiced brown sugar and salted caramel. Grab and go healthy items such as parfaits, shaker salads in a cup and fresh fruit. More sinful carb heavy items aid here as bagels and other pastries too. Pour overs and Chemex products for sale!! They even have an entire rotating seasonal menu! The vibe was cool. Lots of chatting and hanging out. A few reading and some getting work done. Seems like a great place for any or all of the above. Eclectic decor and a bit of decoration for the holidays. Loved the balcony seating and the big bright open windows looking out into the streets and historic buildings. They said they also have some seating out front in warmer weather! On our first visit we had a white pomegranate tea and gingerbread chai made vegan with almond milk. Both were delicious! The chai was perfectly spiced and not too sugary even with the addition of the gingerbread. It was very easy to drink. It was actually quite perfect!! We also picked up a pumpkin chocolate chip bar which was well liked. Perfectly pumpkin flavored and a decent amount of chips. Soft and moist. Under $3 and made the crew happy. We will most certainly be heading here when in the area again. I would actually like to stay a bit longer next time too! Service was extremely friendly and efficient! The baristas added a little something special to our visit. I can imagine it's a great place during a morning rush, but equally so for an afternoon chill spot. read more

I love this place but one guy in particular that works here is so mean and condescending. He was even being rude to his co worker for using the wrong cup. Makes you nervous to even order your food and drink because he is not helpful or nice at all. :( read more
