You have to buy 6 pieces inside the fridge before you get the HST exemption, any other pastries not inside the fridge do not count. I hope they are remitting all the HST collected to the government. Cute bakery in the middle of Jtown/ mini supermarket as well. They sell japanese food, snacks, groceries, kitchen and day to day necessities used. However, their bakery has one of the best cakes I have ever tasted! The green tea red bean cake is so delicious!!! Honestly, if you have not tried it yet, you are missing out! You can purchase slices or a 6 inch whole cake as well. Prices were a bit higher than average ($4/slice; $28/cake) but the quality is amazing :) Staff was nice and helpful if you have any inquiries. The five star rating is for their cakes. Discovered this lil gem a few years back. They honestly make the BEST cakes. I especially love the green tea one. When a friends bday is coming up this one is a no brainer. From what I know the ingredients they use are relatively healthier than your average cake shops. I want to be fair. I wanted to write an update of a review but realized I didn't enter my initial review. So this is a review of that which was sometime in summer 2016. The flavour of the tofu cheesecake was as smooth as silk and the flavour was wonderful. I've had a similar dish at bake code and this was slightly better since the tofu flavour in the latter was barely detectable. At the time, this place had a rating of 4 stars on yelp. 4.0 stars. 80/100 I would recommend it to people too. I went again in the fall and had the tofu again and the black sesame. The tofu was as before great texture and nice flavour. The black sesame was good did not stand out. 3.75 stars 78/100 I went again over a year later near Christmas at had a matcha croissant and the famed tofu cheesecake. At $5.25 we thought it was really expensive for the portion size. When we bit into it, there was none of that smooth texture which made the dessert memorable and was actually lumpy and unappetizing. The matacha croissant was average. 2 stars 45/100 Averaging out the three visits is 3.25 stars read more

Okay I admit, I love their cakes a lot. Whenever it's someones birthday, this place is my first place to go if I am nearby. And their yeast free bread is a whole different flavour profile, though a bit too pricey. I watched them get built and everything. Was quite excited to see something developing there besides the horrible Chinese buffets that kept changing owners and names. Anyways, I've been coming to this place for years. But then... My last few trips, a few times in summer and another in the fall, their bread section was covered with flies. I know it's hot in summer time, but that doesn't mean any food should have anything walking all over them! The entire place needs to keep up with the sanitary requirements. It wasn't just the bakery, the meat area and the fish area too. The meat area have lunch specials and they have a little tray with the actual dish presented as display. There were flies walking in the curry special that day. In the fish area, they had pre-fried foods and other things out in the open. You walk towards it, and a swarm of flies would fly away from table. I'm really disappointed with how they run things now. Knowing the fact that the foods may have been touched by flies and maybe even laid eggs on... - Worst possible scenario, but it wasn't just once I saw flies. It was on multiple visits cause I'm a fan of their things, so I kept insisting that it's just a short term issue. But even in the fall time when it's cooler, they haven't made any progress. I haven't been back since last year. And I'm kinda relieved that I'm not the only reviewer here that have issue with the flies. read more

Cream puffs are soggy from being refrigerated overnight. Not good quality for the price. Other breads are just normal quality, which you can get at lower prices elsewhere...I'm really not sure what the hype is about. It's open kitchen so you can see all the mess inside ( walls, floors, trays everywhere). You can also see how bread is left sitting out all over the place on top of random boxes and cans. Everything looks dirty and unsanitary. I also dislike the management who I exchanged a few words with to voice my opinion...Very rude and lacking basic politeness. Bakery Nakamura is an awesome bakery. Awesome in that they only use natural ingredients with no artificial ingredients or shortcuts taken. Traditional methods and ingredients with a fusion of western and asian treats. I love their bread here. It's light, airy and flavorful. The best thing is that you can have them slice it to your needs. So you can get super thick slices for making toast, or thinner slices for sandwich bread. read more

One of the best bakeries that I have been too. They make the best chocolate mousse cake ever. It is not overly sweet and rich. Very moist and light. I couldn't stop eating it. I also had a cake that had red bean filling and green tea powder on it. It was delicious! They also sell caramel custard too, which is my favorite. Love their cakes, though I only tried the Green Tea Red Bean Cake, Mont Blanc Cake and the Tofu Cheesecake. It made me fell in love, for the presentation, taste, level of sweetness and uniqueness. If you arrive an hour before closing, hang around until they put up the 50% off for buns, croissants and danishes. Don't make the mistake I did. They put out the sign just as I handed my money over and wouldn't honour the discount. The staff can be extremely rude. A variety of buns and croissants but a lot of buns are the same style with different flavours. I've tasted better croissants in the GTA. Nadege on a bad day and even Duo Patisserie make a better tasting croissant. There's a lot of preorders for the full loaves of bread and they sell an assortment of cakes. read more

One of the best bakeries ever in my opinion! From what I remember from their sign all of their ingredients are fresh, with no preservatives or added chemicals. In addition they have a wide array of Japanese breads (similar to Chinese style breads, but even better!), and Western inspired desserts. One look at their dessert case and you would be willing to sacrifice whatever diet plans you've had! (Not that they seem to fattening, in fact they seem quite light for dessert.) Also, you can be sure to have wonderful service from the counter/cashier, people who work there are always smiling! In addition, you can see how those yummy baked goods are being created which adds to your desire to buy them. The only downside is the price. A piece of cake easily exceeds $5 (with tax), and the slice isn't particularly big either. However, you are paying for the high quality of the food. I usually buy the Jap. style buns, because they seem reasonably priced, and I only allow myself to indulge in the pricey cake once in awhile. Overall excellent place to visit, and great to take someone from out of town, since places like these are kind of rare. read more

this might be the only bakery in toronto with melon bread! the bread here is expensive, but it is an authentic japanese bakery. personal favourites are the melon bread (original, not chocolate or whatever flavour they are playing with), bacon stick, and the cheese bun. my brother loves the chocolate horn bread. if you are into mango or anime, coming here is a great Japanese experience read more

I generally don't like whipped cream on cakes from other bakeries, but the whipped cream on the green tea cake from this bakery just tastes so good! Been living near this bakery for over 10 years. I usually only buys the French or Raisin bread and Egg White Roll. The high quality is very consistent through out the years. Only recently I have ventured into their other baked goods. And Wow! They are great! Especially their curry beef bun! Usually sold out fast so better get here early! read more
