Located in J-Town on Steeles and Woodbine There is parking out front but being shared with the office building and all the other shops in the area can make parking a little crazy as the spots are tight with drivers zipping around. The bakery is located in the centre of the main shopping area to the back. They have a large assortment of baked goodies. I have tried their doughnuts and did find them a little doughy and oily. They taste ok but maybe I am not used to this iteration of doughnuts The staff are busy and perform their roles quickly but curt with service. If you have questions be warned...

You really must try their filled donuts! Oh my goodness, the matcha?! So full of delicious, not too sweet filling! The fruit shaped mochi were amazing! So many items to choose from!

A very nice and authentic Japanese bun and pastry place in J-Town Markham. Good variety of buns available for breakfast or snacks. Tasty and impressive. Recommended.

A really busy bakery on a weekend in JTown in Markham. All the baked treats looked so good! But since I'm trying to eat healthier these days, I didn't go for the cakes. Instead, we picked up a few of their buns. I was really disappointed in the green tea melon bun. I mean, we ate it the next day, so it wasn't fresh, but usually, Asian bakeries' items still taste okay the next day. However, this one was so dry and not even edible at all, so we tossed it out. I hope it's just a one-off, though at around $3 a bun, it seems like quite a waste. I don't think I'll come back for the buns, but the tofu cakes do seem quite interesting.

It's a nice bakery with lots of options, they do have fresh bread which they can cut to a thickness of your liking. However it does get backed as it is a small location alongside other businesses. They have cakes, baked goods, and also to go meals from Tanuki

Soba roll for lunch. Delish. Highly addictive. Nakamura is an establishment which is consistent, tried and true!

Bakery Nakamura has been a staple in the community for such a long time. Serving Japanese pastries and delicious bread for decades, it's been a mainstay on the border of Markham and Toronto. Those who haven't been definitely should go as the assortment of baked goods will definitely satiate any cravings. It's also conveniently located in the heart of J-Town so you can go shopping for other Japanese goods and foods right next door. This review however is primarily to talk about their newest confectionery treat, kohakutou. These are made from agar agar and crunchy on the outside and soft on the inside. They are so addictive. I could eat mountains of these little gems all day. Beautiful to look at and just as fun to eat. They come in a variety of flavours such as mango, green apple, blueberry, strawberry, and lemon. The flavours do change periodically however. The one down side is they are a bit pricy at $6-7 a package. However once you have one you'll be hooked. I love Bakery Nakamura. I hope it is here for many more decades.

I have been a big fan of their French bread (tall shokupan) for over a decade. Their French bread is the closest to "hotel bread (next-level shokupan, soft, pillowy, and light) that I used to enjoy in Japan. This bakery has been making this since before shokupan got raved about and (as a result) overpriced in recent years. Everyone wants to make something "looks similar" to this for profit, it seems. I've tried other places' bread that claimed "shokupan" but never liked any of them. Nakamura's is the best. Affordable (half the loaf $6, the size that other places sell as a full loaf and charges more than $10!?), with no weird sweet tastes added. Feel the excellent "sweet and salt balance", which extracts all the other flavors of its companions (butter, jams, eggs, bacon, or whatever). I personally do not buy their cakes (other than snow-white roll cakes - they are good and reasonably priced). But this French bread is something that I want others to try!

The cake was dry... $44 for this cake was not worth it, I rather go to T&T .... I dont think I will come back again. To be honest, only few stores in j town that is worth going nowadays. Most of them are not as good as it used to anymore.

This bakery continues to be my go-to during indecisive times! My husband wanted a simple, strawberry shortcake for his birthday and with so many choices at different bakeries, we are glad we walked into JTown and saw this pretty little thing! Cake was light and had the right amount of cream vs sponge. Though we wish they out in more strawberry slices, we still enjoyed the cake!

I love bread and pastries and this is now one of my go to places. Their bread is super soft and I especially love their melon-pan. I also really like their cakes which have good flavour and are perfectly balanced to be not too sweet. One thing I love about Japan is how seasonal they are and this bakery brings a part of that to Canada along with the incredible kindness of the workers. Such a cute bakery that I will be frequenting.

I decided to try a new bakery this year for my birthday. Instead of the conventional canton chestnut cream cake, I went for the Mont Blanc. The cake tastes a little too sweet for us but not as bad as say, Cheesecake Factory. We find that Japanese baked goods tend to be a little sweeter than Chinese. The texture of the cake is really nice. A bit chewy with chestnut pieces folded in the cake and rum(?). Not overly heavy with cream. We also bought a loaf of fresh baked bread which they only sell in "whole loaves". It was $8 for the loaf. A little hefty in terms of price but excellent texture and super good for toast!

I always loved their bakery items, whether it's their tofu cheesecake or their turtle shaped buns! While I was there over the weekend, I saw a table of mochi muffins in various flavours. I've seen and heard about them but never tried them as of yet. Seeing each of them was only $2.50, I picked up a couple to share with my mom to find out what it's all about. They offered them in a variety of flavours: matcha, black sesame, coffee, milk tea, sweet potato and chocolate. We picked up matcha and milk tea to try. When we got home, we heated them up in the microwave and halved them so we each get to try a bit of both flavours. The matcha flavour really stood out and my preferred flavour. The milk tea on the other hand didn't stand out and I don't really recall tasting much milk tea flavour. The texture was great, it was nice and chewy which is a texture I personally really enjoy! I went back to more since having them for the first time over the weekend already!

The cashiers are always rude and the cake tastes awful. $7 for a tiny slice. If you want to be rippled off just go this place.

Recently, I got to try two of their 6 inch cakes. The earl grey tea chestnut cake with fresh strawberries and the black sesame mochi lava cake with fresh mangoes. Both cakes are AMAZING! I could taste the earl grey flavor and the chestnut flavor separately along with the fresh strawberries, it is a wonderful combination. The black sesame one was sooooo good also.
