The shredded has browns were quite crunchy on the outside which was nice. However, the inside was mushy and seem quite starchy. And bland. The eggs were rather blah. The country sausage was a very large patty! However it lacked any fennel flavor and was rather tasteless. The sourdough toast was quite thick which means it was nicely toasted on the outside but the center was soft and unremarkable. Fortunately there was Smuckers Blackberry jam! The quantity of food was good but the price was a bit steep, around $20. That's without the $4 coffee. Service was OK although my wife had to ask a different wait person for a coffee refill since ours was nowhere to be found. Atmosphere was good, signed sports pics on the wall. Bathrooms were clean. Been here several times for brunch and it has quite solid food. My go-tos are the omelettes and skillets, though I do like their skillets more. They are quite delicious and the portions are generous. If you choose the grated hash browns, they will be lined at the bottom of the skillet. I like my hash browns well done and slightly crispy. They make sure to fulfill my request here! I've had the orange juice several times and the taste is consistent. However, the juice is not from fresh oranges. Service is very slow. It takes a while to be seated, get your order taken, check to come out, and so on. They do not check on you during your meal. Not a problem, but if you need something, it takes a while for someone to be flagged down. Sometimes, they will acknowledge you, but then never come to your table, so you will have to continually try to flag someone down. It can be frustrating. read more

I also love that they serve grapefruit juice cause I love me some grapefruit juice (I feel like I can't find many places with grapefruit juice in the South Bay which is a bummer. Felt like it was available at every cafe in Berkeley where I went to school). They hashbrowns are also solid along with everything I've ordered. My bestie brought me here years ago and I find that I will drive (28 miles round trip) just so I can eat here. The food is good and the people are so amazing. Came by here yesterday morning after seeing so many reviews of this place and having drove by here so many times. As local Mountain View residents for the past 14 years, it was our first visit here. We were hoping our experience would cause us to be blown out of our socks but our visit ended up to be so-so. Arrived here shortly before 11am and there were 2 groups ahead of us waiting to be seated. The guy behind the counter at the far end of the restaurant saw us and immediately came to us with clipboard in hand. He wrote down our names and we waited about 15 min. to be seated. There are 2 benches in the foyer that can easily seat up to 6 people. The restaurant is adorned with pictures and posters of great 49er players of the 80's (Montana/Rice) and the waiter mentioned that the owner is a big 49ers fan. Our waiter mentioned that Baji's has been around for the past 38 years. We were seated at a booth that can fit about 4 adults comfortably. The table had jelly packets and a syrup container (if you want maple syrup, it's $1.50 extra) as well as the utensils (forks and butter knives). The menu had so many choices to choose from and after meticulously studying the selections, my wife went with the Meat-lovers Omlettte, my son had a side order of Rib eye steak (for his protein) and a bowl of fruit, and I went with the French Toast Slammer. Now here are the pros and cons of our experience: Pros- French Toast Slammer- Pretty good. Bread was not soggy but firm- the right way it should be. Well made with the right consistancy of eggs, milk and cinnamon. Best out of the 3 choices. Not as soggy as Crapvine which is a plus. Service- 9 out of 10. Our waiter, Manuel P. was very attentive and always checked on us. Very friendly and concerned. Another older guy walked around and made sure our water cups were always full. His assistant waiter who was the same guy that took our names down on the clipboard mistakenly brought us the wrong orders. That's minus 1 point. Cons- - The LONG LONG wait for food. It took about 30 min. for our food to arrive. Sure, the place was packed as there were even more groups that arrived shortly after we were seated. I took a glance at the back kitchen and it seemed like there were only 2 cooks at the grill. The 3 of us were so hungry and since it was our first time, we were excited to see how well the food was prepared when we received it. - Rib-Eye steak- Plain and nothing special. Fruit bowl consisted of grapes, strawberries and other fruits- nothing out of the ordinary. - Meat Lovers Omlette- It was DRY- the eggs were dry, cheese was meh and the overall taste was just salty. Wife was not impressed and neither was I. - Not enough eggs in my French toast slammer. You can see on the picture of the open spots where they could have added at least another spoonful or 2 more. - Utensils are a little spotty, so make sure you rewipe them with a napkin. - Price- Ended up around $57 for 3 people. This included 1 small orange juice. It was a good thing I looked at the receipt as they had mistakenly charged us for 2 coffees when all I had was that OJ. I had them fix the charge. Make sure to check your receipt for any discrepancies and that you are properly charged for exactly what you ordered. You could be paying for someone else's meal. Taking a quick glance of the receipt will help. As for myself, I would definitely be back for the French toast. I think my wife was not impressed for a 2nd visit. My son would probably be interested in other choices, but I also have 2 daughters that have yet to try the place. Perhaps they'll be impressed. All they need to do in my case is make some slight changes, perhaps add some more eggs to the meal to make it look like it is $15 and also make sure the food isn't too salty next time. I understand that there are a lot of people waiting to be fed, but if you want those same people to return and fill up the restaurant again, you have to keep consistency in mind. read more

It is my first time here. I came to drop off my car for a nearby auto services and stopped by to have a late breakfast at Bajis Cafe. Omar, my waiter, was very friendly and courteous. Only been here once but I enjoyed my visit. The seating is well spaced and they have several indoor/outdoor tables. Really good menu, with breakfast served all day (who doesn't love breakfast all day?!) I opted for chicken and waffles, which I've only had a few times anywhere. It was above average but not overly impressive. The waffle was a bit chewy but the chicken was well spiced and only possibly a little overcooked. Coffee here is plenty bold. I came here for Sunday brunch with two friends after reading such exception reviews. As many have mentioned, this location is not hard to find, nor was parking difficult (there is a lot with plenty of stalls). Arriving slightly after 11AM, the wait for 3 was only approximately 10 minutes (you have to put your name down), which all in all was a great start so far! So on to the food-- I got the Cross the Border Omelette with wheat toast and hash browns on the side (~$13), and also the bottomless coffee (~$3). The service was relatively quick. Portions were generous, as many reviewers have commented. My omelette consisted of chorizo, tomatoes, jalapeno, salsa, and potatoes, which came out without too much wait for Sunday brunch. It was warm and filling. Coffee was promptly filled so +1 for that. I kinda like this place for a quick lunch break place and I wanted to give it 4 stars but in the end? You know three stars is a-ok and that's exactly what this place is. The breakfast is more along the lines of 4 stars and what most people seem to be enjoying. I have to say though the coffee is never really that good and it is supposedly Peet's. It is a fine option for lunch if you're right there in the area and the salads are enough for two meals (although mostly lettuce and served oddly with a piece of buttered toast.) I've tried the Farmer's salad with chicken - good and with what seems nicely sautéed zucchini and mushrooms - and the Greek salad with chicken - solid but could use more feta and less olives. The chicken add-on to the salads tastes like pre-cooked, processed/packaged but it's ok for lunch. A better protein option on a salad is an egg. The veggie sandwich is on toasted sliced bread and served with a ton of fries. Four stars for that. The place is really a throwback with lots of happy looking retirees and extremely friendly and nice servers. It does end up seeming a little expensive though if you get a salad and Diet Coke about $25 with tip. Maybe next time I'll try the pancakes or an omelette? read more

Nothing unusual in presentation but fast. Here they're service centric. Our glass of water and Adam's coffee cup was never empty. We came out of there full, relaxed and definitely a fan! Well, probably just had the most disappointing brunch to date here. Pretty sad since this had become my go-to brunch spot and I would always bring friends here. Our food came out about 10 minutes apart, and it would have been longer had I not said something. I had to flag a waiter because they hadn't noticed the time lag at all. Hubby's food came out cold. My pancakes tasted like they had rotten bananas in them making them pretty hard to put down. They said they were sorry, but their sorry didn't extend as far as the check which they could have given us at least a little discount on since our meal was just plain bad. I gave them a chance to make things right but they clearly didn't care about me as a customer. Will not be returning here and I wouldn't recommend trying it. It wasn't what I expected, both biscuits and gravy were underwhelming, there were also egg shells in my eggs. My boyfriend got chicken and waffles where the chicken was mostly bone. Two tables next to us got in an argument over one of them having a dog in the patio area. Not sure if I would come back because what I ordered was a miss. So as a last minute occurence I drove down to Baji's. Not quite a hole in the wall but in a remote enough area where it pretty much qualifies as one. Pretty large menu but I decided I would focus on breakfast. Had the corn beef, cheese, olive, tomato and onion omelette/scramble with sourdough toast, hashbrowns and a small sife of bacon. Good solid breakfast fare and I must also say the service is quite good and friendly. I ordered the biscuit and gravy with potatoes, bacon and eggs and my boyfriend got the signature scrambled which is "everything but the kitchen sink." He enjoyed his plate and devoured it. I only ordered the biscuits and gravy because I'm on a sort of biscuits and gravy tour if you will; I'm trying to find the best biscuits and gravy, and it wasn't here. Came here for breakfast with a few friends. Some of us decided to get lunch and some of us got breakfast. I could decide so I went with a chicken waffle. Waffle is breakfast food, right? The chicken was juicy and tender and the breading was flakey. It was not greasy or heavy at all. Well, it's not heavier than other fried chicken, haha. The syrup made the whole thing sweet and that's just fine for me. While the chicken waffle may not be as good as the ones down in SoCal but it's pretty close. I really enjoyed it. One of my friends had the chicken fried steak. He is one of these people who doesn't need to watch his fat intake so he just had them serve it with the gravy on top. I usually get my gravy on the side but that's just me. I have to admit that it looked real good but I don't think I can handle that much gravy. To each his own, I guess. One thing worth mentioning is that they have really good hashbrowns. Some places do not cook their hashbrown long enough so it's not very crunchy. Not here. Theirs is just the way I like it. First-time customer and decided to try out the Chicken Fried Steak to-go. The online order system showed two Chicken Fried Steak entries: one with potato and 2 eggs in the picture, another (quoted here) "With country gravy, fries, cole slow & French roll" for 8 dollars more. Ordered the first one. Turned out it is JUST the chicken fried steak, no egg no potato. The staff was apologetic and tried to upsell. I think I would pay more for eggs and potatoes if the online description clearly states it is just the steak. I consider this a VERY DECEPTIVE practice. Will never go back. We will continue our search for a replacement option for Bill's Cafe in Palo Alto which closed after the unfortunate fire. read more
