First, this place does really really good mixed drinks. But since this place is a restaurant, I had to give them two stars because of their food. I do have to say their guac is great, and they give generous portions. Their tacos however, which I think are their staple, need some serious help. Each time I've gone there the tortillas are lukewarm, no charring on them, and most of the fillings sub-par quality with tons of saucing made so customers don't notice honestly how bad they are. The two times I've gone I could only eat one taco out of three because they were so heavily sauced and unappealing. I think the business model of this place is wonderful but I do hope they try to learn some new more simplistic taco recipes that focus on fresher ingredients and quality. read more

I went here for my birthday celebration. Now this is a tequila bar and we went on a day that there was a beer festival just ending at the time we went. So the service has no place in this review. The tequila flight was amazing and the sangria tomato stuff they serve with flights was to die for good. However.l this was some of the worse food I've eaten in awhile. I got the nachos and every single chip was over burnt toasted and soggy. As I didn't get meat with it I expected the black beans on top as described but there were none. Talk about yum! In all, we ordered: Baja wings Pork Carnita taco Short Rib taco The Gringo taco Rice Bowl w/Korean pork belly. Strawberry frozen margaritas I managed to snap a few photos so check those out as well. By far, the highlight of our dinner was the wings!! They were perfectly -super extra- crispy, with a glaze like sauce mostly pooled on one side of the plate with what I assume is a mexi/chipotle ranch pooled on the other side. They were pooled after being drizzled across each of the wings, topped with slivers of bell peppers and spring onions. They were absolutely amazing. Keep in mind, two wing portions had already been taken off the plate by the time I thought to take a pic, but if I had to guess, I'd say there was easily a pound and a half of wings (14 sections in total on our plate)... Wonderfully priced in my opinion. My boyfriend wasn't really willing to share his pork belly rice bowl so I can't speak for the flavours, but he didn't leave a speck of food in the bowl, so it's likely safe to say it was yummy also. He did mention it was unlike any other pork belly he's had before as it was diced up and each side was crisp. He speculated it was likely cooked in batches, diced, and then perhaps pan fried to give the crisp exterior he enjoyed. Note: Our food was in front of us minutes after ordering. It was almost surreal. Onto my tacos: each item on the menu is for a single taco, so it was nice to be able to mix and match my taco selection. The short rib was my favourite , truly full of flavour and topped with salty crisps that were mmm mmm good. My second favourite would be The Gringo taco, also very full of flavour and seasonings which was lovely. I felt like this would be the safest taco on the menu if you're afraid to try new things or have a child who's a picky eater... Like myself :) Next would be the Pork Carnita taco... The flavour was very very good also, and the meat was tender. The only downside to this taco for me was all the juice that came with it.... I know... I know... I must be Loco!... But it caused the two soft shells that it was served on to be drenched and soggy and fall apart. I finished this taco with a fork. Now, this surely wouldn't stop me from ordering it again, but I personally would want the meat strained just a tiny bit more before being plated. I also ordered a side of cilantro rice: what you'd expect and then some... The rice tasted so fresh! I'm not sure if it literally had just finished cooking or if they just have amazing kitchen equipment, but the rice was cooked perfectly and paired with fresh cilantro. Sadly, I didn't have belly room for more than a bite or two, so this was taken home for me to eat with lunch tomorrow. Lastly, my strawberry margarita: yum yum yum! Full of flavor, not a bit of chunky under-blended ice and a really smooth choice for tequila, whatever kind they may have chosen. It was oddly garnished with fresh jalapeño... Which I ate part of for fun, but not something that would have been a deal breaker for me. Had it been a lemon or lime it would have ended up in my drink but I'm not daring enough for a spicy margarita I guess! Additional notes: with my tacos, I ordered all the jalapeños that were to come on it, on the side. I like spice in my food, but more often than not I prefer to taste the real flavours vs having my mouth en fuego. I feel I made a good choice on that one. There was also a slew of other toppings I haven't mentioned... Picked - nsert purple veggies here-, and whatever else is listed on the menu that I can't remember because it's past my bedtime... They were all delicious as well, for those wondering. Also note that the taco shells must have been homemade. I make my own at home and they had that familiar masa harina flavour which was nice. That said, five stars without a doubt. We'll absolutely visit again for another round of trying new items. read more

Awesome service! This place is the definition of a hidden gem. I visited with my dog and the staff was extremely welcoming. They even brought her a bowl of water and she was allowed inside the patio. I wish places in NYC were this dog friendly. The tacos were a great size. The chicken wings were awesome. The paella was very different from what you typically think paella looks like. Still, the flavor was excellent. It was cooked to perfection from the rice to the shrimps. Unfortunately, I had to drive back to the city and couldn't try one of their tequila flights. However, next time I won't go out the door without giving them a shot (pun not intended). read more

Came to Baja the first couple of weeks they were open, Halloween 2015. (I let my reviews sit in draft mode too long). I was with a few friends and we were ravenous after apple picking at Dressel Farms. We all ordered a bunch of tacos and quesadillas, with fajita nachos to start. The whole table got a couple of pitchers of margaritas, but since I don't drink tequila, I ordered off the cocktail menu. Unfortunately for me, this is a tequila bar. The bartender was very understanding, and made me a special drink with mezcal, lime, and lots of jalapenos. It was spicy and yummy. Guacamole & salsa were pretty flavorless... I wouldn't order it again. I ordered the 3 taco meal (one shrimp, barbacoa, and chicken) and I was disappointed with the flavor of each one. The chicken had COLD beans on it and the barbacoa was nothing more then shredded meat with a strip of avocado... I could have made it at home. Shrimp taco had a jam of some sort which didn't pair very well. Like I said, I wouldn't order it again. The drinks are delicious but expensive. Absolutely delicious. The bus boy wound up switching my order with my boyfriends, and we didn't even realize until I was on my last taco. It was so delicious, drinks were amazing(spicy cucumber margarita and chupacabra blood) . the only downside was the insanely loud music, and when I told the bar tender that the bus boy had delivered the wrong meals when I specifically told him I had the octopus, she responded "well it's really loud in here" Paid $28 to eat the wrong meal. Large selection of Tequilas. The cocktails are ok but their salsa is just terrible. It's basically flavorless pico de gallo in the center of a fancy plate with some dry chips. They are definitely not homemade chips, these babies were straight out of a bag. I've had better salsa out of a jar. If you're going to serve Pico de Gallo salsa make sure it's good! If I had to venture a guess, I'd say there's a giant bulk bucket of pre-made pico de Gallo in the kitchen that they use to top meals and then serve as salsa. No salt or pepper in sight. The food was average at best. The service was friendly both times I've come, so you kinda feel bad telling them how ehh the food is. Don't think I'll be back for a third visit. The only thing we enjoyed about this place was the drinks. The first time we visited we ordered the steak and it was salty. We gave them the benefit of the doubt and went to have drinks and my guest ordered the meat tacos and loaded fries, omg the salt content on the meat was enough to raise your blood pressure. Ordered two portions of Baja Paella to go (due to the Corona virus) and it arrived piping hot as soon as I arrived in the door. It was authentic and full of seafood. It came in a sturdy bag and each portion was in a high quality, large black plastic bowl. Included were plastic cutlery and black napkins. Judging by a lot of the reviews for this place it seems to be hit or miss so I guess I'm lucky to have been there on a hit. Drinks are awesome; few different types of margaritas by the glass or pitcher. A little on the pricier side but for the quality tequilas this place has you expect to pay. My favorite drink is the Spicy Cucumber margarita - highly recommended! They must have 40 or 50 different types of tequila all available to sample by the shot or in flights with tasty tomato and lime juice to cleanse the pallet. For Dinner I went with a mix and match of tacos from their menu - you get to choose any three. I had the Philly cheese streak taco which was a special, the "El Pastor" with pork and pineapple, and a scallop taco. All three are great and if those flavors aren't up your alley there's at least 10 different tacos to experiment with. Paired these with the chorizo mac and cheese and it was a wrap; absolutely delicious. My lady went with the quesadilla burger which was also a hit. Only complaint about the food was that the guacamole was a little plain; I'd expect more out of a creative Mexican spot like this. Probably my own fault for not asking them to dial up the Spicy with extra Cilantro. All in all a good little spot on Beacon's Main Street. Especially love the city feel of this place as they open up the front in the warmer weather with street seating and an open airy feel inside. read more

Baja 328 on Main St in Beacon is amazing! Not only was the food yummy but when a slight issue came up they were amazing! Definitely going back again soon food and management/server response was awesome! I had the taco choose 3 got lobster, fish and shrimp tacos. The lobster had a fresh mango salsa that was incredible in flavor. The shrimp were perfectly cooked with a light sauce and the fish taco was a great finish. For dessert we got 2 the deep fried cheesecake and the fruit and Nutella and both were the perfect ending to our lunch. Solid 3 star restaurant. It's not great, certainly not awful, but not authentic Spanish food either. They have a huge selection of tequila, but a small 8 Oz. margarita should not be $12+. This is a nice spot to meet people on weekends, maybe have a drink or 2 but for food, I would rather cross the bridge and eat authentic Mexican food served by Mexicans for half the price. For the new hipster crowd who are afraid to do so, I guess this place does the trick. read more

Service was terrible barley saw our server I had to cancel the drinks, they were so bad couldn't even finish the espresso martini. The food was bad, the drinks took forever the bartender was just playing around and not caring that's why the drinks came out terrible. Stopped here for lunch after a visit to the Dia museum. Received friendly and attentive service. Waitresses, food expeditors and bus staff all seemed to be on top of things. Food was delicious and fresh. Portions were large. Only things that were just ok were the drinks were on the small side and they seem to nickel and dime you on some food items. For example, nachos are cheese only and toppings are $1 each. You can pay $11 for chips with melted cheese and you have to add jalapeños, onions, etc. I do like you can create your own, but $1 per topping is a little steep. $14 for a choice of three tacos though redeems it for me. You have a good choice of seafood, meats and veggies. Well worth what you're paying. I will definitely come back here and recommend it to others. It gets crowded quickly so come on the early side to avoid a wait. read more

This place is so poorly managed, I would never go back. I walked in with 3 other people for dinner last night. There were at least 5 open tables, the hostess told us that it would be 20 minutes. We went to the bar to order drinks. 40 minutes passed and not one table had been seated, the place was half empty. We inquired about why we weren't seated and were told the reservation list was long. We walked out after ten more minutes of watching the hostess text on her phone and still no tables came in. We went to one of the many other options in Beacon for dinner and when we walked past Baja an hour later the place was still mostly empty. The food is average Mexican, there are plenty of others around that don't have 3 different parties waiting for a table staring at empty tables. I would suggest better management. read more

I have been to Baja 328 once and can confirm that the food is the best. I had 4 tacos and each of them was unique and absolutely delicious. My mom thought her drink was weak. I thought the guacamole was alright, nothing too special. The coffee at the end was see-through and absolutely not good at all. The waiter was attentive and really great! Overall, I will go again! In a city where its main street appears to be growing by the weekend, Baja is a newcomer to the ever expanding Beacon scene. I first heard about this place from a friend who stopped in shortly after it opened. Upon his recommendation, my wife and I decided to check it out. We stopped in on a Friday night and it was packed house. Judging by the crowd gathered by the front we assumed we would have to wait. Luckily we were escorted to a seat immediately (the rest of the waiting crowd were apparently larger groups). The main bar and restaurant area has a large amount of tables and the narrow hallway leading to the back has more. The decor of this place has a bit more of an upscale appearance compared to other Beacon restaurants and other tex-mex places. Onto what matters most; food and drinks. They have an insane taquila menu, and if that's your thing... You've found the right spot. They have several cocktails and wine options available. I didn't see a beer listing but judging the cocktail I ordered (Lagurita - curaco with Lagunitas IPA) they have to at least have Lagunitas available. As someone who rarely drinks a cocktail, I have to admit it was quite good. I would have had a second but the price deterred me. So many options on the menu looked good, but for some reason I was eying the rice bowl with pork shoulder (maybe from a recent restaurant I ate at in Tampa that left me craving more). The bowl was filled with rice, black beans, guacamole, and pork. The pork strips were partly crispy and full of flavor. The wife had a couple of vegetarian options available to her and she was quite pleased overall with her meal. Although I enjoyed mine, I think next time I'll try their tacos. I was torn at the time but figured I'd be back again. Their website wasn't updated with a menu before we came, so we went into the meal blindly (like the "good ol" days?). Stopped by for a quick lunch on a cold and cloudy Thursday afternoon. The place was empty, of course. Just myself and the friendly cute waitress. I've ordered a classic margarita , which was perfect, with a nice salt-pepper rim on it. Also order a pork belly rice bowl. I gotta confess, the guacamole which came with the bowl was divine, but the pork belly itself was terrible. I don't know how they could ruin a so simple to prepare kind of meat. Pork bellies just take a little bit of salt and braise, that's it. They're using some sort of burnt brown sugar caramel on it...what a shame! The fried yuca on a side was great too. Went to Baja last night with a few friends. First of all, I have to comment that it was extremely loud! There was a table with ~15 people and they were extremely rowdy and clanking on their glasses. Felt like I was at a college bar with that type of yelling and drunkedness. On to the food. Meh. We all ordered tacos. First off all, my tacos compared to my friends tacos had about half the amount of filling - which was disappointing. Not to mention, by the time you made it half way through the taco, the soft shell had completely torn apart. My shrimp taco was completely overcooked, salty, and the meager two pieces of tiny shrimp were beyond disappointing. The chips served with the guacamole were stale. And to top it off, service was extremely slow. We ordered a pitcher of the watermelon mint drink. Be prepared to know that you are paying for 3/4 a pitcher of ice with barely any drink. read more

Because of medical problems, eating in restaurants is a challenge. At Baja 328, I got to feel "normal" for a while. Tortillas are gluten free, and I skipped the rice which is made with butter, and that's the only adaptation I had to make to enjoy my meal. Kudos to Benjie, our server, for his thoughtful, helpful service. He followed up to make sure I could eat the beans (corn starch). Two other servers also made sure we were happy with our meal.
